Jane Ann Coleman
(Died August 14, 2011)

Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Ann Coleman, age 75 of Lineville, will be Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the Barfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at her home. An Ohio native, she was a former resident of Pennsylvania and Florida where she worked for over 35 years as a Radiology Technician. After relocating to Clay County in 2006, she became a member of Barfield Baptist Church and the Open Fellowship Sunday School Class.

Jane was a person with many gifts. In her early years, she and her husband Harold loved to sing as she played the accordion and he played the guitar. She was also an accomplished artist who loved to paint and draw scenes of nature and wildlife. In her later years, her talent as a writer was shared with members of her church family, as Jane would compose poems which were inspired by her Sunday School lessons.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband, Harold L. Coleman of Lineville; one daughter, Lauren L. Johnson (Gerald) of Lineville; one son, Darren H. Coleman (Lissette) of Lineville; one step-sister, Shirley Dioneff (Boris) of Perry, Ohio plus six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin William Race and Laura Elizabeth Jerauld Race.

Pallbearers will be Larry Burton, Donnie Dennison, Jerrold Denson, Fred Reddish, Ed Smith and David Holcombe.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. She will lie in state at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.

Mary B. Jackson
(Died August 15, 2011)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary B. Jackson, age 84 of Lineville, will be Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. John Luckie officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 at the Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, she was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by two sisters: Carolyn Nichols of Ashland and Myra Character (Cook) of Lineville plus a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Jack Crawford and Chula Smith Crawford; her husband, Walter B. Jackson; a brother, Mack Crawford and an infant brother, S. J. Crawford.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Thursday morning.

Linda Joyce Robinson Wilkerson
(Died August 19, 2011)

Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Joyce Robinson Wilkerson, age 60 of Wadley, will be Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Gilead Community Church with Rev. Ray Franklin, Rev. Jimmy Brand and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Gilead Community Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilkerson passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Clay County Hospital. She was born in Atalla, Alabama but grew up in the Chandler Mountain area. Later on, she relocated to Lafayette, Georgia, then Etowah County, Alabama. Mrs. Wilkerson moved to Clay County in 2000. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Community Church but will be most fondly remembered as a member of the “Grandma Club” for her love and care of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Wilkerson of Wadley; two daughters: Amanda Wilkerson Tapia (Ramon) of Wadley and Melinda Grant (Shane) of Gadsden; one son, Glenn Elkins of Wadley; one step-son, William Wilkerson (Betty) of Roanoke; one brother, Travis Lee “Bo” Robinson (Sue) of Marietta, GA; one sister-in-law, Barbara Robinson of Gilmer, TX plus six grandchildren.

Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her parents: Lewis Robinson and Vera Mae Martin Robinson; one brother, James L. Robinson and an infant brother.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Lovelace, T.J. Mulkey, Randy Robinson, Steve Robinson, Jimmy Sprayberry and Jason Wilkerson.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until 12:30 P.M. on Sunday. She will lie in state at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.

Ronnie Roberts
(Died August 19, 2011)

U.S. Veteran

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Mr. Ronnie Roberts, age 59, of Delta. Mr. Roberts passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 at his home. He was a native of Rhode Island, a former resident of Virginia and had moved to Alabama in 1992. Mr. Roberts had worked as a house painter for most of his life and was a six-year veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia C. Roberts of Delta; two daughters: Michelle Stancil of Oxford and Shari Bright of Oklahoma; one son, Dustin Roberts (Stacy) of Talladega; four sisters: Pat Levine of Colorado, Donna Dowdney of Delta, Sheila Woolard of Norfolk, VA and Debbie Coleman of Delta; one brother, Kenneth Roberts of Delta plus seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Jackie Roberts and Sammie Louise Floyd Roberts and one daughter, Jennifer Brasher.

Annie Lou Britt
(Died July 14, 2011)

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Lou Britt, age 94 of Ashland, will be Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Britt passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Clay County Hospital. A native of Tallapoosa County, she had lived in Clay County since 1946. Mrs. Britt retired from Avondale Mills in Alexander City after 27 years of service. In addition to being a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, Annie Lou enjoyed spending time in her gardens and loved growing flowers.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Fuller of Lineville; one son, Richard Britt (Mary Diane) of Ashland plus six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Britt was preceded in death by her parents, Marion L. Connell and LuEllen Griffith Connell; her husband of 20 years, William James “Jim” Britt.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Friday, July 15, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Saturday.

Julius O'Neal Phillips
(Died July 24, 2011)

Funeral services for Mr. Julius O’Neal Phillips, age 69 of Coleta Valley, will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Chandler Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Arnall and Bro. John Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Millerville Community Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, he had worked for a number of years with Tri-County Telephone Company, then worked for over 30 years with the Alabama Power Company as a sub-station crew foreman. Mr. Phillips was a member of Chandler Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edna Wallace Phillips of Coleta Valley; two daughters: Shellia Harris (Chuck) of Delta and Pam Anderson (Randy) of Millerville; one son, Daron Phillips (Penny) of Coleta Valley; one sister, Mary Sims of Killeen, Texas plus seven grandchildren: Amber, Paige and Ross Cotney; Morgan and Neal Anderson; Courtney and Allison Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents: George Floyd Phillips and Thelma A. Cosby Phillips; one sister, Helen Quarles; two brothers: Harold L. Phillips and Kenneth L. Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Ray Brewer, Ross Cotney, Kevin Hubbard, Van Maddox, Larry McCormick, and Paul Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Zewell Arnald and Geral Pope.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. and until 12:30 P.M. on Thursday.

Linda Nell Baker
(Died August 1, 2011)

Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Nell Baker, age 50 of Lineville, will be Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. David Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in the Christiana Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Baker passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Clay County Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, she attended Clay County High School. Linda was a homemaker and loved her family, especially her precious grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Lee Baker of Lineville; two daughters: Angela Campbell (Bobby) of Talladega and Belinda Baker (Wade Campbell) of Lineville; two sons: Anthony “Bo” Hill (D.D) of Wedowee and Allen Hill (Dana) of Lineville; her step-mother, Katherine McCollum (William) of Lineville; three sisters: Mary Heath (Jimmy) of Cragford, Kay Lipham (Allen) of Lineville and Christy Shirey (Rodney) of Talladega; three brothers: George Hubert East Jr. (Tammy) of Rock Mills, Kevin Lee East of Lineville and Donald East (Blair) of Coleta Valley plus 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents, George Hubert East Sr. and Ruth Gill East and one sister, Esther Ann East.

Pallbearers will be Charles Baker, Thomas Baker, Bobby Campbell, Jimmy Campbell, Tyler Campbell, Wade Campbell, Kevin East and Wilton Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Baker, Scott Baker and Donald East.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time Wednesday morning.

Gloria Faye Young
(Died August 3, 2011)

Funeral services for Ms. Gloria Faye Young, age 71 of Hampton, Georgia, will be Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. Claude Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery.

Ms. Young passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia. She was a Clay County native, a graduate of Lineville High School and had lived most of her life in the Atlanta area. Ms. Young had worked for a number of years as an apartment complex manager and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Dianne Cotton of Lovejoy, GA; two sons: Donald Wayne Young of Jonesboro, GA and Ronald E. Young of Lovejoy, GA; two brothers: Thomas Denney of El Paso, TX and Fred Marlon Denney of Oxford, AL; three grandchildren: Michelle Dianne Taylor, Morgan Young and Michael C. Schmidt Sr.plus two great-grandchildren, Madison Dianne Taylor and Michael C. Schmidt Jr.

Ms. Young was preceded in death by her parents: Willie Fred Denney and Mary Emma Hall Denney; one son, John H. Young Jr. and one brother, Kenneth Denney.

Pallbearers will be Michael C.Schmidt Sr., Morgan Young, Anthony Cotton, Geoff Williams, Jim Denney and Marcus Denney.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 1:30 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.

Aaron Chapman
(Died August 10, 2011)

Funeral services for Mr. Aaron Chapman, age 86 of Lineville, will Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. David Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Chapman passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at his home. A native and life long resident of Clay County, he was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and had worked for a number of years at the Clegg poultry facility in Ashland. Aaron also enjoyed life as a gardener; he loved working the soil and watching things grow. Mr. Chapman was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Chapman is survived by one daughter, Donna Post (Kenneth) of Heflin; three grandchildren: April Peterson, Joel Henry and Paula Stamm; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Lena Bryant of Sylacauga and one brother, Charles Chapman of Valley, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Chapman and Jessie Luker Chapman; his wife, Bobbie Jean Chapman and two brothers: Avery and Jessie Chapman.

Pallbearers will be: Dale Holcombe, Bob Borring, Stacy Cantrell, Micah Harris, Nathan Calhoun, and Roger Brown.

Flowers will be accepted; however, memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church; Clay County Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 12:30 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.

Janis Faye Abernathy Butler
(Died August 14, 2011)

Funeral services for Mrs. Janis Faye Abernathy Butler, age 64 of Wadley, will be Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Bro. Ray Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Gilead Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Butler passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Clay County Hospital. She was a native of St. Louis, Missouri but had lived most of her life in Clay County, having worked at Russell Manufacturing for over 35 years. Mrs. Butler was also a member of Mt. Gilead Community Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Waters (Ronnie) of Lineville; three sons: Richard Butler of Wadley, Wayne Butler (Julie) of Lineville and Nicky Butler (Kris) of Stemley; her mother, Mildred Abernathy of Alexander City; two sisters: Judy Crouch (Miles) of Dadeville and Rita Waldrop (Allen) of Ashland; two brothers: Bill Abernathy (Jill) of Millbrook and Mike Abernathy (Brenda) of Boaz plus nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her father, James Ronald Abernathy and one sister, Nancy Bryant.

Pallbearers will be Bud Butler, Jessie Duke, C.L. Neal, Matthew Waters, Rodney Watters and Ronnie Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be John Harris and Greg Mask.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Tuesday.
