DeVaughn, James Felix, age 61, died at the residence at Fletcher last Friday at 6:45 p.m. Services were held at New Cedron Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev's C. D. Mongham, J. I. Bice and Billie Carter, Spigener directing. Pallbearers were James and Vester Powell, Allen Watts, Henry Smith, Clifford Jones and Earnest Smith. The wife, Mrs Lina Hayes DeVaughn, survives as well as three sons -- W. R. and
J. L. DeVaughn both of Clanton, and H. J. of Franklin, La.; three daughters -- Mrs E. H. Smith of Calera, Mrs James Powell of Prattville, and Mrs Vastine Powell of Billingsley; one brother, J. W. DeVaughn of White City and Clanton; one sister, Mrs J. Y. Adams of Birmingham; four half sisters and one half brother. The half brother is Larkin Williams of Clanton; four half sisters -- Mrs. J. C. Boockholdt of Billingsley, Mrs Louis Stroud and Mrs. Fannie Neeley, both of Verbena and Mrs. A. J. Culver of Birmingham. There are ten
grandchildren; four step sons and two step daughters -- Thomas Brasher of Birmingham, Willie C. Brasher of Germany and Cecil Brasher of Birmingham: Mrs George Culver of Birmingham, and Mrs. Weston Thornton of Prattville. Native of Coosa County, he was a son of J. Y. DeVaughn and Mary Hewitt

DeVaughn, John Orbie 'J.O.'

DeVaughn, Johnnie Orbie "J.O.", 79, of Prattville, died Wednesday, September 1 after an extended illness. Services will be Saturday, September 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Rev. Lamar Lyon and Rev. Randall Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. DeVaughn honorably served his country as a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was well known as the Owner and Operator of DeVaughn and Son Country Store in White City; and he later served as the Tax Collector for the Autauga County Revenue Department from which he retired after 12 years of service. He is survived by his spouse, Doris Hollon DeVaughn of Prattville; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wayne Coppedge of Clanton; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Tim Claybrook of Prattville; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Kim Hollon of Prattville; two grandchildren, Harmon (Michelle) Coppedge and Laurie Coppedge; three step-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Claybrook, Rhett Hollon and Brooklyn Hollon; one great-grandchild, Leighton Park Coppedge; and two sisters, Lillian Burkhalter of Enterprise and Jenelle (Ralph) Mims of Haynes. Pallbearers will be William Mims, Johnny Burkhalter, Earl Griffin, Paul Griffin, Dwight Griffin and Larry Raines. Honorary pallbearers will be Haynes Wright, Junius Kendrick, Ralph Hunt, Winston Hollon, Bill Turnham, Donald Gandy and members of his Sunday School Class. Memorial tributes may be sent to White Pond Baptist Church, c/o The Grounds Fund, 1898 County Road 21, Prattville, AL 36067. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

DeVaughn, Melvin, age 43, died at his home in Clanton last Saturday, March 31 at 12:15 p. m. Services were held at Pleasant Grove, beat 15, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock. The wife, Mrs Jessie Mims DeVaughn survives. alone with one daughter, Mrs Frances Roper of Birmingham. Two Grandchildren: Two sisters, Miss Vera Mims and Mrs. Lena Henley both of Clanton, Rte 3. Two brothers: Milton DeVaughn of Billingsley and Harvey DeVaughn of Clanton. He was a native of Chilton County and was son of Elijah DeVaughn and Dora Wright DeVaughn.

DeVaughn, Mitchell Watson, age 73. of Verbena died on April 16 in the Chilton County Hospital. A native of Chilton County, he was born on July 27, 1901. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Viola C. DeVaughn, Verbena; two daughters, Maxine Gray, Chicago, Illinois, Betty Skag, Palos Hills, Illinois; one son Ancel DeVaughn, Calumet City, Illinois, one brother, Lincoln DeVaughn, Statesville, North Carolina; one sister, Mrs. Louise Jones, Clanton; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Services were held at 2:00 on April 18, at Chestnut Creek. The Revs. Warren Culver was the officiating minister. Active pallbearers were Arthur Floyd Wade, Flem Thomas, Danny Wade, Kenny Gray, Homer Robinson and James Smith. Martin Funeral Home directing.

Reuben A. DeVaughn Services for Reuben DeVaughn, 90, of Clanton, will be held today, May 6, at Martin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah cemetery with Reverends Tony Hughes, Cletice Ingram and Jim Popwell officiating. Mr. DeVaughn, a carpenter, died May 4. Survivors include his daughters, Joyce Ann Vaughn and Elnora Brigance of Clanton; sons, Ocie and Terry DeVaughn of Clanton; brother, Calvin DeVaughn of Clanton; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ernest Bradford 'Brad' Donahoo will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Tommy Roy and Rev. Bobby Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Billingsley Baptist Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Donahoo was born on July 1, 1932, in Autauga County, the son of the late William Phillip Donahoo and the late Vera Bearden Donahoo. He was parts manager and mechanic at Ralph Smith Motors for 40 years. He died on Jan. 10, 2003, at Baptist South Medical Center in Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Lorene B. Donahoo, Prattville; four daughters, Ann Hubbard, Billingsley, Sandy Lawley, Randolph, Sue Powell and Shirrel Davis, Both of Prattville; four sons-in-law, James Hubbard, Billingsley, Earl Lawley, Randolph, Randy Powell and Randy Davis, both of Prattville; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 14, 2001, from noon-1p.m. Down was born on March 24, 1907, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Wiley Foshee and the late Ella Foshee. She was a homemaker. She died on June 11, 2001, at Chilton Medical Center. Survivors include one son, Stephen G. Downs, Roswel, Ga.; one daughter, Dorothy Downs Houston, Clanton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ben Downs, Jr.

Post-Master Hosea f. Downs, age 51, died Monday. He has been the Clanton Post-Master since 2-28-1935. He is survived by his Wife, his Parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Downs, 1 Brother, Joe Ben Downs of Lakeland, Fla., 1 Sister, Mrs. Ruby Pickens, of Denver Col. Burial was at Clanton City Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mary Hosey Drake, 77, Douglasville, Ga., will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at 1 p.m. from Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton, with Rev. Ken Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel from 11 a.m.-1.p.m. Drake was born on Dec. 17, 1922 in Clanton, the daughter of the late Mark and Sally Elizabeth Popwell Hosey. She was retired from J.C. Penney with 17 years of service in sales and was a member of Midway United Methodist Church in Douglasville. She died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Ann D. Thomas, Marietta, GA.; three sons, Ron Drake, Marietta, Ga.; Ray Drake, Houston, Texas, and Richard Drake, Swanee, Ga.; one brother, Mark Hosey, Montgomery; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Drake; one sister, Elizabeth Hosey Ledbetter; and three brothers, John Hosey, Fred Hosey and James Hosey.

Funeral services were held at County Line Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. Hardie Harris, Spigener directing. Pallbearers were -- J. H. Nummy, Elton Oates, Thomas and Richard Hogan, Floyd Evans and G. H. Berry. The wife, Mrs Lucy Driver, survives, as well as four sons -- Charlie and Jack of Deatsville, Melvin and J. C. of Uralde, Texas; three daughters -- Mrs. Zora McDonald, Mrs David Roy, and Mrs. Geraldine Gunnelle, all of Deatsville; one brother, Louis Driver of Clanton; 19 grand children. Survivors include three sons, Charles Driver of Deatsville, Eddie Earl Driver of Marbury and Robert Driver of Clanton; three sisters, Leona Adams of Clanton, Marie Headley of Clanton and Willodean Jones of Clanton; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillie R. Driver.

Henry Driver died Aug. 17. He was sick 1 week, age 36. Leaves Widow and 6 Children. His First Wife was Maude Lansford and his last Wife was Gertrude Lockhart. He was a Son of Sampson and Mary E. Mims Driver. He died in the Clanton Hospital and burial was at Highland Baptist Cemetery.

Driver, James Berry ‘Jim’
Missing since January 3rd, the body of James Berry (Jim) Driver, age 57, of Cooper, was found in the woods near the home of Mrs. John Bates in Beat 16 last Thursday morning. The man was last seen alive in that vicinity more than a month ago, and indications are that he died of natural causes, according to Coroner Leroy B. Martin, on or about January 3rd. About $25.00 was found on the body by the officials investigating. Services were held at Bethany at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Fred Lowery; Martin directing. Pallbearers were: E. C. Morris, H. N. Logan, Sgt. W. D. Crawford, W. D. Dykes and C. R. Driver. Flower girls -- Mrs. W. D. Crawford, Mrs. Wallace Burns, Mrs. E. C. Morris, Betty Jean Morris, and Mrs. O. B. Nelson. Besides the wife, Mrs. Bessie Logan Driver of Verbena, surviving is one son, James O. Driver, two daughters -- Mildred and Mary Driver; one brother, Clifford, of Montgomery; two sisters -- Mrs W. W. Williams and Dave Driver (Note this is what it said), both of Montgomery. Jim Driver, a World War One veteran, rating 100% disability, was the son of the late Dave Driver and Mary Clinton Driver. He was born in Marbury in December, 1894.
