Charles David Alford, an employee of Holcim U.S. Inc., died Thursday at an area hospital. He was 58.
Alford was a native of Leaksville, Miss., and a resident of Mobile.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Alford; and two sons, Michael Terry Alford and John David Alford, all of Mobile; three daughters, Sheila DeAnn Taylor and Leslie Elizabeth Green, both of Satsuma, and Gina Lasha Alford of Atlanta; six brothers, Billy Ray Alford of Summerdale, Ala., Kenny Alford of Saraland, Jimmy Alford of Satsuma, Rodney Alford of Mississippi, and Terry Alford and Bobby Alford, both of Wilmer; two sisters, Sybil Grandquest of Chunchula and Margaret Odom of Mobile; and 8 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral at Crawford Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crawford Methodist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Gilmer's Funeral Home on Zeigler Circle West.

Lavern Compton
Monday, September 05, 2005
Lavern Compton, a native of Wrightsville, Ga., and resident of Mobile for 62 years, died Friday. She was 82.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Whatley and Peggy Harbin, both of Satsuma, and Sherry Warren of Jackson; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland. A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Joseph DeKeyser
Monday, September 05, 2005
Joseph William DeKeyser, a native of Saukville, Wis., and a resident of Mobile since 1946, died August 29 at an area hospital. He was 83.
DeKeyser was a former auditor for the State Department of Revenue, a member of the Alabama Retired State Employees Association and American Legion Post 3.
Survivors include his wife, Jean G. DeKeyser of Mobile; one son, David Armand DeKeyser of Alexandria, Va.; one daughter, Barbara Jean "Babs" DeKeyser of Mobile; three sisters, Donna Fuchs of Waukesha, Wis., Shirley D. Schmitz of Milwaukee and Barbara Jean Dumak of New Berlin, Wis.; and two grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Little Flower Catholic Church, 2053 Government St., Mobile, AL 36606.

Roberta Nichelson Kelley

Roberta Nichelson Kelley, a public school teacher, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 92.
Kelley was a native of Mississippi and a resident of Mobile.
Survivors include two sons, Hubert Kelley of La Crescenta, Calif., and Larry Kelley of Mobile.
The graveside service will be 9 a.m. Thursday at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Mobile.
Arrangements are being made by Ascension Funeral Service on Hillcrest Road.

Berenice Bieber Mittell

Berenice Bieber "Bonnie" Mittell, an artist and restaurateur, died Friday. She was 91.
Mittell was a native of Mississippi and a resident of Mobile.
Survivors include one son.
Arrangements are being made by Ascension Funeral Service on Hillcrest Road.

Kirsten P.E. Rankin

Kirsten P.E. Rankin, director of a publishing company for many years, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 78.
Rankin was a lifelong resident of Mobile.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Rankin of Mobile; one sister, Lois Archer of Montrose; and one grandchild.
Private services will be at a later date.
Arrangements are being made by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Three Notch Road.

Neomia L. Osby

Neomia L. Osby, a homemaker, died Wednesday at a Pensacola hospital. She was 74.
Osby was a native and resident of Brewton.
Survivors include three sons, Charles James of Detroit, and Junious James Jr. and Willie Osby, both of Pollard; one sister, Hattie Cordell of Brewton; four brothers, James Lovelace Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Willie Lovelace of Pensacola, Berl Lovelace of Silver Spring, Md., and Earnest Lovelace of Detroit; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel in Atmore. The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Second Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lillie Mae Smith

Lillie Mae Smith, a retired teacher for Head Start, died Thursday at a family home. She was 79.
Smith was a native and resident of Leakesville, Miss. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church in Leakesville.
Survivors include six sons, A.F. Williams of Washington, D.C., Robert Williams and Newton Smith, both of Leakesville, Jackie Smith of Gautier, Miss., and Martin Smith and Michael Smith, both of Lucedale, Miss.; five daughters, Mae Webb and Christine Smith, both of Moss Point, Miss., and Sarah Smith, Pearlie Smith and Mable Smith, all of Leakesville; three sisters, Della Jones of Hattiesburg, and Geneva Taylor and Roslyn Box, both of Leakesville; and a host of grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral at New Providence Baptist Church in Leakesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Marjorie McDonald Farnell

Marjorie McDonald Farnell, who retired from the executive department of the city of Mobile after 18 years, died Monday at her home. She was 87.
A lifelong resident of Mobile, Mrs. Farnell, a 1935 graduate of Murphy High School, was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. She was a member, a past president and travel director of the church's Golden Age Club.
She was also a past president of a mystic society.
Survivors include three sons, H. Donald Farnell, H. Emmett Farnell and H.R. Farnell Jr.; one daughter, Elaine F. Kopf; and her half-brother, Robert E. McDonald Jr., all of Mobile; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 8:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. mass of Christian burial is celebrated at Little Flower Church. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street is handling arrangements. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Little Flower Catholic Church, 2053 Government St., Mobile, AL 36606; or the Little Flower Golden Age Club, 574 Glenwood St., Mobile, AL 36606.

Juanita Brown Johnson

Juanita Brown Johnson, who retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1989, died Thursday. She was 73.
A native of Leakesville, Miss., she was a longtime resident of Mobile.
A U.S. civil service worker, she had worked at the former Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile and the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include her husband, Willard B. Johnson of Mobile; two daughters, Vallie Johnson Diamond of St. Louis and Ashley Johnson of Mobile; one sister, Imogene Brown Hobby of Perkinston, Miss.; her half-sister, Caroline Whitehead; and her half-brother, Larry Brown, both of Scottsboro, Ala.; and one granddaughter.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral at First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street is handling arrangements.
