Funeral services will be Saturday, December 11, at 1 p.m. at A.O.H. 35th Avenue Church of God, 2801 35th Avenue North, with Overseer T.L. Jones, Sr. officiating. Burial in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Alisha G. Dunklin (Edmond Jr.), Stephanie Jackson-Smith, Mrs. Kimberly T. Gorham (Harvey), Miss Maciah Leigh Smith, Miss April Shaliss Smith, Miss Ashley Sharron Smith; sons, Lee Alexander Smith III, Brendon Elisha Lee Smith; stepson, Anthony; mother, Berneice Jackson Smith; father, Thomas L. Smith, Sr.; sister, Tonya S. Harper; brothers, Thomas L. Smith, Jr. (Tracey) and Stephen T. Smith (Grace); grandchildren, Tyvarus L. Smith, Takileya J. Smith, Tatiana L. Dunklin, Tedmond L. Dunklin, Tamonda L. Dunklin, Tuesdae' L. Dunklin, Techana L. Dunklin, Tyemond L. Dunklin, Jazmine Aleyce Gorham, Travis Gorham; and a host of other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends of Columbiana, SC. Sunrise East Funeral Home directing.

Kemp, Tressie B., age 83, of Pell City, passed away February 16, 2000. Funeral services will be Friday, February 18, at 11 a.m. at Coosa Valley Church of God with Rev. John Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Chapel Hill of Pell City directing.

Thomas, Mr. Daniel O. "Pop", 100, Birmingham, AL, died December 11, 1999. He was preceded in death by his wife of 79 years, Eunice E. "Mimi" Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a native of Blount County. He was a member of East Lake United Methodist Church (previously 67 St. United Methodist Church) for 62 years. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Thomas was a pioneer in the Broiler Industry in the State of AL. He was the founder of Thomas and Fowler Poultry Co. He was a WWI Veteran and also served in France. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by his son, Elwell O. Thomas (Mary Ellen) of Birmingham; daughter, Mrs. Nila McHale (Tom) Centerville, AL; grandchildren: Carol and Phillip Franks, Birmingham, Connie and Jim Roberson, Pinson, Gloria McCary, Huntsville, Tom and Martha McHale, Alabaster, AL; three sisters, Mrs. Reba Abbott, Jasper, AL, Mrs. Leva Rutledge, Jasper, and Mrs. Clara B. Brakefield, Jasper, AL. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 1999, at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Roebuck Chapel. Rev. Bob Gunn, officiating. Ridout's Roebuck Chapel directing.

Smith, Foy E., age 81, of Tarrant, died June 20, 1999. He was a former member and president of Springville Civitan Club and a graduate of Jefferson County High School in Tarrant. He worked for Birmingham Tank, Ferro Fabricators and Richards' Tank. He was a naval veteran of WWII and served in North Africa. Graveside funeral service will be held on Tues day, June 22, 1999 at 1:00pm, Jefferson Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be Monday, 5pm-8pm, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. Survivors include: wife, Mabel Smith of Tarrant; daughter, Janet Collins of Tarrant; son, Terry Smith of Hueytown; sister, Ona Darden of Helena; grandchildren, Susan Davidson, Gerald Collins and Jeff Collins, all of Tarrant; step-grandchildren, Robyn Melton and Sean Shoemaker, both of Hueytown; great grandson, Andrew Hatcher; step-great granddaughter, Kristen Melton. Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Trussville is directing.

Murphy, Ms. Joy Love, age 19, of Pelham, died Friday, June 18, 1999. She was a member of North Shelby Baptist Church and daughter of the pastor. She was 1998 Valedictorian of the Pelham Christian School and honor student her first year at Montevallo University. She was employed at Shelby Baptist Day Care and a Spanish Teacher at Pelham Christian. She died while serving as a Summer Missionary, loved the Lord Jesus and in serving Him, especially with children. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 1999, 2:00pm at North Shelby Baptist Church with burial in Southern Heritage. Visitation will be held 5-8pm on Tuesday, at North Shelby Baptist Church at Shelby County Rd. 41 at U.S. 280. Survivors include: parents, Allan and Mary Murphy of Pelham; brothers, Josh Murphy and John Murphy, both of Pelham; sister, Jane Murphy of Pelham. Memorials may be made to North Shelby Baptist Building Fund. Ridout's South ern Heritage is directing.

Cotton, Alpreston Leon, age 27 of Birmingham, died Wednesday, December 8, 1999. He was a Deputy Sheriff with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. He was a graduate of Gardendale High School, a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church 13th Avenue, with burial in Taylor and Harding Cemetery, Tisha bee, Alabama. Survivors: one daughter, Sydney Cotton; sons, Christopher Cotton and Jacob Cotton, Cameron John son; mother, Thelma Cotton, father, Willie James Palmer; one sister, Tonikka Franklin. Bushelon Funeral Home directing.

Sanford, Doris Mae, of Minor Heights, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at the age of 70. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, J. C. Sanford; sons, Allen (Joan) Sanford of Center Point, Curt (Joyce) Sanford of Gardendale; daughter, Sherry (Tim) Lewis of McCalla; grandchildren, Craig (Jennifer) Sanford, Chris Sanford, Jennifer Sanford, Jerry Sanford, Wendi (Joe) Thomas, Jamie Sanford, Adam Lewis, Erin Lewis; great granddaughter, Jada Sanford; brothers, Raymond Whaley of Pearland, Tex., Don Whaley of Hueytown; sisters, Dorcus Gravlee of Foley, Lillian Cone of Hueytown, Janice Forrister of Bessemer. She was a longtime member of Minor United Methodist Church but of more importance was a child of God who was quick to share her faith with family and friends. Viewing will be Thursday, February 17, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Crestview Memorial. Funeral will be Friday, February 18, at Crestview at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Crestview Memorial Gardens. Levene, Rosalyn Toranto, age 78, of Mountain Brook, passed away June 21, 1999. She was a native of Atlanta and had lived in Birmingham most of her life. Mrs. Levene was a life long member of Temple Emanu-el, Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women, Pinetree Country Club, and Temple Emanu-el Sisterhood. She was a member of the Birmingham Bridge Club. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Ralph Levene, her son, Dr. Terry Toranto of Walnut Creek, California, her daughter, Judy and her husband, James Rotenstreich of Mountain Brook, her daughter, Bunny Sundock of Nashville, his son, Doug Levene, his wife, Monica and daughter, Jennifer of Birmingham, his daughter, Carina Levene of Atlanta, grandchildren, Jeff Rotenstreich, his wife, Sally and their children, Matthew and Abby of Atlanta, Ken Rotenstreich, his wife, Amanda, and their children, Josh and Alex of Greensboro, NC, Andy Rotenstreich, his wife, Jenifer and their son, Sam of Mountain Brook, Amy Sundock of Nashville and Brad Sundock of Nashville. Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 22, at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Block 36, with Rabbi Jonathan Miller officiating. Memorials may be made to the Temple Emanu-el Endowment Fund. Davis, Thomas D., age 69, of Birmingham, died Friday, June 18, 1999. Graveside service will be Wednesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. Survivors: wife, Louise Davis; daughters, Linda Davis and Thomasene P. Cleveland; sons, Thomas D. Davis, Jr., Phalandus Todd, and Arthur H. Pinkard; ten grandchildren; one uncle, Charles J. Willis. Scoggins, Annie Ruth, age 70, of Hueytown died on June 22, 1999. She was a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church for ov er 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Scoggins. Funeral services will be held Thurs day, June 24, at 11:30 a.m. at Brown Service Chapel, Bessemer, with burial in Valley Creek Cemetery. Rev. Richard Wierich presiding. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Survivors: two sons, Richard Scoggins and wife, Peggy, Concord; David Scoggins and wife, Lou Ann, Huey town; mother, Elizabeth Parks Spidle; three brothers, Barney Parks, Midfield; Charles Parks, Moundville; Paul Parks, Huey town; grandchildren: Daniel Parker, Keith Scoggins, Misty Scoggins, David Scoggins, Jr., Cody Scoggins, and Maria Scoggins. Brown Service Bessemer directing.
