Luther Atchison

ATCHISON, Luther Howard, 79, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully at home on Monday, December 10, 2007. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., from Old Kingston Cemetery, with Minister Arnold Pledger officiating, Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Atchison was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He served his country for twelve years as a Veteran of the United States Navy and later retired from Lowe’s after 30 years of service. He was also a long-time member of Prattmont Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Atchison; one grandson, Chris Golson; his parents; one brother, and one sister. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Golson and Woody Harris; four sons and daughters-in-law, Austin and Brenda Golson, David and Karen Golson, Rudolph and Patti Golson, Allen and Carol Golson; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Maddox, and three nephews, Charles Maddox, Danny Maddox, and Ronnie Maddox. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Harris, Brett Harris, Rob Golson, Jim Golson, Brian Golson, and Bradley Golson. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Wednesday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m.

Nell Elizabeth Beasley

Nell Elizabeth Beasley, 80, of Pensacola, died April 29, 2008 at a local hospital. Nell was born in Dunbarton, S.C. to Charles Ustus LeCroy and Evelyn Morgan. She moved to Pensacola in 1956, and was a teacher in Pine Forest, Woodham and Blount Schools in Pensacola, and McKenzie High School in Alabama. She retired after more than 30 years of teaching. She was a longstanding member of the garden club, a flower show judge and a member of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola.
Mrs. Beasley was a graduate of Montevallo and Advanced Education at the University of Southern Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Verble Beasley. She is survived by her son, Charles Verble Beasley and wife Mihwa; sister-in-law, Eloise LeCroy; nephew, Wesley Hudson; grandchildren Heather Davis and husband, Albert Marcus Beasley, and great-grandchildren, Kelsy, A.J., Ethan Davis and Cheyton Beasley.
The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Elizabeth Primitive Baptist Church in McKenzie.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Elizabeth Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Hwy, is in charge of the arrangements.

James E. Reynolds

Graveside services for Lt. Col. James Emmett Reynolds, AUS, ret. 1918-2007, will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 2:30 pm at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery of Fort Deposit, AL. Bishop Paul Duffey and Reverend Fred Fuller will officiate. Full military honors will be presented. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Elizabeth W. W. Searcy

Elizabeth Wilkinson Ware Searcy died May 3, 2008 at St. James Place in Baton Rouge, La. She was born to Eva Lyle to David Gaston Wilkinson in Selma on February 4, 1911. Known to her family and friends as "Ludie," she received a degree in English and History from Judson College. She taught school, then went on to be active in church and community affairs serving as president of the Officers' Wives Club, where was named Army Woman of the Year in San Pedro, Calif. Through her work in the assistance league, she was named Woman of the Year in Downey, Calif. She helped to organize the Assistance League in Hemet, Calif., and with her husband, Ralfe Searcy, helped to establish St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Sun City, Calif. While living in Birmingham she was active in the Retired Officers' Wives Club, Chapter F of PEO, and St Mary's on the Highlands Episcopal Church. Ludie was known for her talents in flower arranging, giving book reviews and programs, and her expertise in bridge.
Her gracious and generous hospitality was legendary.
Ludie is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Eva Lyle Wilkinson Harris and her husbands James Elliot Ware and Ralfe Clayton Searcy Jr. She is survived by her sister, Mary Murphy Wilkinson Weaver, children, James Ware Searcy, Kathleen Ware Searcy Petznick and George Paul Petznick and Elizabeth Searcy Harrison and George W. Harrison IV.
Grandchildren include Paul Gaston Petznick and Eliza Pascall Petznick, Charlotte Petznick Maxwell and Larry Maxwell, James Lyle Petznick, Eva Lyle Searcy, May Harrison Bruser and Jeremy Bruser. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, beloved nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 16, 2008 at St. Mary's on the Highlands Episcopal Church, 1910 12th Avenue South, Birmingham. IN lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's on the Highlands Episcopal Church for Friends of St. Martins, P.O. Box 55245 Birmingham, AL 35255.

Charles David Brown

BROWN, Jr., Charles David, 46, a resident of Prattville, Alabama, died on Sunday, October 17, 2004, at a Montgomery hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend J. B. Burt officiating. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Brown is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Brown, Prattville, AL; two sons, Jeremy Ford, Prattville, AL and David Young, Texas; parents, Sybil Fralish, Bainbridge, GA, and Charlie and Sheri Brown, Autaugaville, AL; one sister, Cheryl Godwin, Bainbridge, GA; two brothers, Brian Tomlinson, San Diego, CA, and Scott Tomlinson, Prattville, AL; grandparents, Nellie Brown and Ethel Tylor, Opp, AL. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Robin Barta

BARTA, Robin Rae, 44, a native of Mitchell, SD, and current resident of Montgomery, AL, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 15, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 20, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Father Albert Kelley officiating. At the time of her death, Robin was the Manager of Northwest Airlink at Dannelly Airport in Montgomery, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Rita Barta. She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Welch and Kimberly Welch; fiancé, Jack May; three sisters, Ronda Benavidez, Raeburn Henderson, and Rachele Fenimore; two brothers, Richard Barta and Robert Barta; and numerous, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Edna Bell Schofield Herring

Edna Bell Schofield Herring, 58, a resident of Greenville, died Sunday, May 4, 2008. Chapel services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 with Pastor Charles Box officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Herring is survived by a son, Johnathan (April) Wayne Herring of Prattville; grandchildren, Tiffany Herring, Kristen Herring, Johnathan Wayne Herring Jr. all of Prattville; brothers, James (Margaret) Herring of Greenville, L.J. Herring of Greenville and Wayne (Darlene) Herring of Foley, and several nieces and nephews.

Chester Chandler

CHANDLER, Chester, 90, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2006, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., from The First Baptist Church of Prattville, with Dr. Travis Coleman officiating and Dr. Fred Lackey eulogizing. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Chandler proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Army and later retired from The Continental Gin Company after 42 years of employment. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Jo Chandler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and J. D. Brothers, Kathy and James Hill, all of Prattville, AL; nine grandchildren, Vicki (Jim) Tidwell, Jay (Nikki) Brothers, Jhet Brothers, Wendi (Art) Sanchez, Jeremy (Cindy) Crawford, Jared (Danielle) Crawford, Wesley (Debra) Hill, Bill (Amy) Hill, and Chris Hill; 17 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Marguerite Burkhalter, Prattville, AL. Active pallbearers will be Jay Brothers, Jhet Brothers, Jeremy Crawford, Jared Crawford, Jim Tidwell, and Art Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church, 138 South Washington Street, Prattville, AL 36067, or to The Haitian Needy Children’s Foundation, c/o Raymonde M. Jacques, 236 East Main Street, Frankfort, KY 40601, a special school project of his great-grandson, Patrick Tidwell. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Gurthie Virginia Sexton

Gurthie Virginia Sexton, age 90, a resident of Highland Home, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in a Luverne hospital. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1 from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Highland Home. Elders Chris Smith, Greg Sexton and John Nimmer officiated Mrs. Sexton's funeral services. Interment followed in the Sardis Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing.
A visitation was held Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by: daughters, Carolyn Sipper of Luverne and Erline Lowe of Highland Home; a sister, Lillie Mae Hayes of Ozark; six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Sexton was preceded in death by her husband, John Rufus Sexton; sisters, Lillian Best and Mammie Lee Beasley and a brother, Orden White.

Thelma Amsden

AMSDEN, Thelma Lee, 83, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2007. A memorial service was on Sunday August 26, 2007, from the Prattville Community Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis Merrell. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Del Conrad, and Lynda and Johnny Gilyard; four sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Mary Ellen Merrell, William and Annette Merrell, Lewis and Louann Merrell, and Michael Merrell; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members.

Jewel Adams

ADAMS, Jewel Bell, 78, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at a local health care facility. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Reverend Ron Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Adams was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Roland E. Adams, Sr.; parents, George H. and Lola B. Davis, and one brother, Woodrow Davis. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Knight, and her spouse, Tyron, Grovetown, GA, and Lola Adams, Tallassee, AL; two sons, Roland Adams, Jr., and his spouse, Debbie, Clark Adams, and his spouse, MeLinda, all of Prattville, AL; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, George (Rubye) Davis, Prattville, AL, and John (Ella) Davis, Wagerville, AL. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Kyle Davis, Chip Davis, Chris Davis, Ryan Adams, Raymond Williams, and Chris Blizard. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Kenneth H. Woods

Kenneth H. Woods, 94, a resident of Luverne, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Chapel services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 with the Rev. William Burns officiating and Dunklin 7 Daniels Funeral Home directing.
Family received friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Woods is preceded in death by three wives. He is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and M.E. Teague of Luverne; granddaughter, Cheryl and Mike Vaughan of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandson, Michael Vaughan of Knoxville; great-granddaughter, Angela Vaughan of Charlotte, and three nieces, Ella Mae Schmidt, Lois Smith-Rohly and Ann Williams.

Raymond Barrett

BARRETT, Sr., Raymond, Paul, 77, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at UAB Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., from Hunting Ridge Church of God, with Pastor Gary Smith and Reverend Raymond Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. Barrett was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ebron and Effie Barrett. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Bonnie Barrett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Macilla and Bill Wild, Sherry and Rodger Gilham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond Barrett, Jr. and Beverly Barrett, Dale and Deborah Barrett; 12 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body of Mr. Barrett will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to his service from twelve noon until 1:00 p.m at which time the family will receive friends.

Catherine Price Brown

Brown, Catherine Price affectionately known as and loved as "Kit" died peacefully at her home in Millbrook, AL on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at the age of 73. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church in Millbrook, AL with the Dan Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Community cemetery with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mrs. Brown is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, John Dewey Brown Jr. of Millbrook, AL; two daughters, Katherine Cord of Millbrook, AL and Deborah Hunt of Marbury, AL; one son, John D. (Martha) Brown III of Atlanta, GA, eight grandchildren, Amanda Graham, Ripley Cord Jr., John Brown, Stephen Cord, Joseph Brown, Brent Cord, Dee Anne Hunt, and Jonathan Hunt; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Price of Georgia, John Price of Illinois, and William Price of Eclectic, AL. Pallbearers will be Ripley Cord Jr., Stephen Cord, Brent Cord, Jonathan Hunt, Ashley Graham, and John Brown. Honorary Pallbearer will be Joseph Brown. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday, September 23, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
