Rev. Robert Jeffery Adams

Services for Rev. Robert Jeffery (Bob) Adams, 79, of Heflin were held July 29 at Concord Baptist Church with the Revs. Herbert Smith and Buddy Smith officiating. Music was furnished by Harold McWhorter. Burial followed in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Adams died July 28 at East Alabama Regional Medical Center. Rev. Adams was born and raised in Timouth, Virg. He had resided in Alabama for the past 53 years. He was a veteran of World War II, a truck driver by trade and a Baptist minister by spirtual calling.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille Turner Adams; a son, Robert Wayne Adams of Heflin; a daughter-in-law, Sonja Jones Adams of Heflin; a daughter, Linda Adams Seymour of Southside; son-in-law, William Martin Seymour of Southside; granddaughter, Rebekah Ann Adams of Nashville, Tenn. ans grandson, Jonathan Robert Adams of Heflin; a granddaughter-in-law, Carrie Payne Adams of Heflin; and a sister, Elizabeth Adams Kelly of Rutland, Virg. He was preceded in death by his parents Etta Hart and Julio Draper Adams; four brother and three sisters.

Pallbearers were Jonathan R. Adams, Alvin Chandler, Everett Ellis, Roger P. Jackson, H.B. Phillips, and Gary C. Turner.

Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Morgan of Bowdon, Ga. and the Men's Sunday School class at Concord Baptist Church.

Catherine Joe Brown

Services for Catherine Joe Brown, 54, of Heflin were held July 25 at Dryden Funeral Home with Rev. David Dukes officiating. Burial followed in the Lower Cane Creek Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mrs. Brown died July 23 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. She was born July 4, 1948 in Cullman. Mrs. Brown was a resident of Cleburne County for most of her life. She was a member of Old Davistown Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband Marion Brown and her mother and father Ardelia and John Taylor.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Brown and Shannon Brown, both of Heflin; Jimmy Brown of Jacksonville, and Mark Brown of Anniston; two sisters, Cindy Cullen of Anniston and Mary Kramer of Birmingham; four brothers, Willis Taylor of Ohatchee, Johnny Taylor of Dearmanville, Michael Taylor and Danny Taylor, both of Heflin; and 14 grandchildren.

Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.

Wanda Sue Cheatwood

Graveside services for Wanda Sue Cheatwood, 57, of Phenix City were held June 18 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. James Owens officiating. Striffler and Hamby Mortuary was in charge of the services.

Mrs. Cheatwood died June 15 at her residence. She was born March 19, 1945 in Birmingham to Lucy Norton Harris of Biloxi, Miss., and the late Harold Harris. She has been a resident of Phenix City since 1997 and she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Ervin Cheatwood of Phenix City; two daughters, Pamela Suzanne Cheatwood of Phenix City and Reveille Russell of Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother, Preston Harris of Baker, La.; a sister, Dale Harris McMillian of Pascagoula, Miss.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Elma Biddy Tucker

Services for Elma Biddy Tucker, 77, of Gadsden were held July 27 at Dryden Funeral Home with Rev. Charles (Buddy) Owens officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Paran Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mrs. Tucker died July 24 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She was born March 19, 1925. Mrs. Tucker was a native of Cleburne County and a resident of Gadsden. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church in Cleburne County. She attended the Liberty Tabernacle Baptist Church of Hokes Bluff. She was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Tucker, her parents Otis and Rose Anna Pruitt Biddy, brothers Eldon (Pete) and Elvin Biddy and a sister Eller Trantham.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Tammey Freeman of Dallas, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Frank Gann and Linda and Ray Owens, all of Gadsden; a sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Ralph Pittman of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jammie Biddy, Matt Deese, Richard Gann, Anthony Morrison, Larry Pointer and Timothy Pointer.

Great-grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.

October 17, 2002

Leo Richard Caron

Services for Leo Richard Caron, 61, of Ranburne were held Oct. 17 at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. H.T. Henderson officiating. Martin and Hightower Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Caron died Oct. 11 at Tanner Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1941, in Nashua, N.H., to Eva Caron and the late Paul Caron. He was a U.S. Marine veteran having served in Korea and Vietnam. He was of the Catholic faith and a carpenter by trade.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria "Vicki" Caron of Ranburne; one son and daughter-in-law, Leo Caron, Jr., and DeeAnn Caron of Farifield, Ohio; three stepsons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Lisa Hightower of Carrollton, Ga., Kevin and Angie Albright of Ranburne and Chris and Shanna Albright of Hinesville, Ga.; one step-daughter, Patricia Keeton of Bowdon, Ga.; four sisters, Karen Hannah and Therese Cockerline, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Lizabeth Boulauger of Ludlow, Mass., and Rosalie Prince of Nashua, N.H.; two brothers, Leonard Caron of Las Vegas, Nev., and John Caron of Fernanding Beach, Fla.

Cindy Lea Huckeba Cole

Services for Cindy Lea Huckeba Cole, 33, of Carrollton were held Oct. 5 at Liberty Baptist Church with Brother Ken Bowman officiating. Music was provided by Mr. Chris Dunson. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel was in charge of the services.

Ms. Cole died Oct. 2. She was born July 5, 1969, in Carroll County, Ga., to Carolyn McGraw Huckeba and the late Jerry D. Huckeba. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Bowdon and was employed by Bremen-Bowdon Investment.

Survivors include, her son Brady Cook of Carrollton, Ga.; her mother Carolyn Huckeba of Carrollton, Ga.; maternal grandmother Gladys McGraw of Mt. Zion, Ga.; and aunts and uncles.

Alice Gay McCullough

Services for Alice Gay McCullough, 90, of Oxford were held Oct. 15 at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Starling and Chris Spurlin officiating. Burial followed in the Forestlawn Gardens Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Ms. McCullough died Oct. 13 at National Health Care. She was born June 7, 1912 in Heflin. She was a resident of Cleburne County for most of her life. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Oxford, retired from Cleburne Manufacturing Company as a supervisor, and a former adult ladies Sunday school teacher at New Harmony Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Willis Lee Scott of Muscadine; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Joe Whitman, Don Whitman, Eudean Scott, Charles Scott, Wayne Woodard and Joe Williams.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ladies' Maxine Stewart Sunday Class of Lakeview Baptist Church in Oxford.

James Robert Melton

Services for James Robert Melton, 63, of Cedartown, Ga., were held Oct. 11 at Gammage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Royce Campbell officiating. Burial followed in the Polk Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by the Brewster Cleveland Post #86. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Melton died Oct. 9. He was born May 11, 1939, in Floyd County and was a retired contractor. Mr. Melton was a member of Little Harmony Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents James Thomas Melton and Violet Mae Crawford Byrd.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Fleming Melton; three daughters, Deborah Gail Ranstandler, Vickie Lee Melton and Pheadra Ann Bright; one son, Jay Crawford Melton; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were members of Brewster Cleveland Post #86.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Little Harmony Baptist Church.

Joseph Clinton Riddle

Graveside services for Joseph Clinton Riddle, 88, of Milledgeville were held Oct. 9 at Salem Baptist Chuch Cemetery in Lexington, Ga. William White Columns Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Riddle died Oct. 7. Mr. Riddle was a native of Heflin and had made his home in Baldwin County for the past 32 years. He was a retired educator, having served as a teacher of junior high and high school as coach and principal. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Washington County. He is preceded in death by his wife Geneva Cone Riddle.

Survivors include five daughters, Teresa McGowan of Woodstock, Ga., Linda Hallman of Ft. Valley, Ga., Donna Clopton of Young Harris, Ga., and Dixie Stewart of Gainsville; two sons, Joe Riddle and Dwight Riddle, both of Milledgeville; five sisters, Elva Roberts of Heflin, Jean Tompkins of Dadeville, Ann Bible of Lannette, Eva Bain and Christine Smith, both of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.

Frances S. Shockley

Services for Frances S. Shockley, 84, of Heflin were held Oct. 13 at Heflin Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Morris and Dr. Don Carroll officiating. Burial followed in the Heflin City Cemetery. Dryden Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mrs. Shockley died Oct. 11 at Cleburne County Nursing Home. She was born July 19, 1918, in Cedartown, Ga. Mrs. Shockley was a resident of Cleburne County for most of her life. She was retired from Muses Department Store and was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Shockley, Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Jean MacLaughlin of Newnan, Ga.; a son, B.K. Shockley, Jr., of Gainesville, Ga.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Anderson Wilson, Jr.

Services for Anderson "Bill" Wilson, Jr., 88, of Cedartown, Ga., were held Oct. 12 at Pine Bower Baptist Church with Brother Jack Landham officiating. Burial followed in the Northview Cemetery with full Masonic rites conducted by Caledonia Lodge #121 F&AM. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Wilson died Oct. 9 at his residence. He was born June 14, 1914, in Polk County. He was an Army veteran and was preceded in death by his parents W.J.A. Wilson, Sr. and Dollie Short Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Lambert Wilson; four sisters, Louise Troup, Arlene Rhinehart, Ruth Ingram and Mary Shepard.

Pallbearers were John Forrister, Roy Forrister, Grey Shackleford, Jeff Lambert, Cary Lambert and Tommy Hogue.

Honorary pallbearers were David Cook, Roscoe Shackleford, Bill Esterly and Jeff Shackleford.
