BENNINGTON STEPHEN KING III

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Bennington Stephen King III, 53, will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Acker Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Anniston with the Rev. Tom Bell officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mr. King died Feb. 6 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong Anniston resident and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Anniston. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University and the Anniston Academy, now known as the Donoho School. He was preceded in death by his father, Ben King Jr.

He is survived by one son, Ben King IV of Anniston; one daughter, Laura Kathleen King of Chicago, Ill.; his mother, Mrs. Ben King of Anniston; and one sister, Madelyne King of Anniston.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Anniston, 1400 Noble St., Anniston, Ala., 36201 or a favorite charity.

Pallbearers will be Stan Nelson, Tom Tarver, Larry Pinson, Jim Campbell and Henry Baugh.

Gray Brown-Service Mortuary and Crematory in Anniston will direct the service.

LILLIAN LOONEY

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Lillian Looney, 72, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Union Baptist Church in Stewartville with the Rev. Erastus Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Looney died Feb. 4 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Hale Jr., Harvey Hale, Harold Hale and D. Lamar Hale.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Looney of Sylacauga; one daughter, Betty Diane Teague of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Lowell Hale of Fayetteville, Ga.; one grandchild and a host of other relatives.

Friends of the family will serve as flowerbearers.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

THOMAS RUSSELL

HARPERSVILLE — Thomas Russell, 54, died Feb. 7 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel.

CARL JOSEPH SUMNER SR.

ASHVILLE — Funeral service for Carl Joseph Sumner Sr., 54, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Sumner died Feb. 6. He was retired from M&B Metal of Leeds as a truck driver with 18 years of service and was a member of Taylors Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Thyra Sumner; one daughter, Carla Jossett Burns and husband Keith of Alexandria; one son, Carl Joseph (Joey) Sumner Jr. and wife Stacey of Ashville; his parents, Frank and Anita Sumner of Odenville; four brothers, Frankie Sumner of Odenville, Robert Sumner of Margaret, Tommy Sumner of Argo and Donald Sumner of Ashville; three grandchildren, Brook, Allyson and Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

JEFFREY THREATT

LINCOLN — Jeffrey Threatt, 42, of 640-2nd Ave., died Feb. 6 at University Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary.

JAMES H. WILLIFORD

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for James H. (Mudslinger) Williford, 61, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. (CST) at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga and at 3 p.m. (EST) at Vance Funeral Home chapel in Phenix City with the Rev. John Battle officiating. Burial will be in Jernegan Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Williford died Feb. 6 at University Hospital in Birmingham. He worked for Welch Construction Company and various construction companies in Columbus and M.J. Brooks & Son in Sylacauga, specializing in brick art. He was a member of Wilson Williams Masonic Lodge No. 351 in Phenix City. He enjoyed the CB radio and used the handle Mudslinger. He was married for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Williford of Sylacauga; two sons, Jason Williford of Dawson, Ga., and Jared Hunter Williford of Birmingham; one brother, J.W. (Jimmy) Williford of Columbus, Ga.; and one sister, Fannie James of Salem.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. (CST) at Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga fand Saturday at Vance Funeral Home in Phenix City from 2 until 3 p.m. (E.S.T.).

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

BETTY LOU NOBLES GOVER
PELL CITY — Funeral service for Betty Lou Nobles Gover, 66, of 2520 Starnes Drive, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Greater Redeemed Faith Church in Talladega with Bishop Chris Gover and Bishop Joseph Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Gover died Feb. 9 at Medical Center East in Birmingham. She was a member of Greater Redeemed Faith Church, where she served as an usher and Mother of the Church. She was formerly employed by the Work Release Center in Alexander City, Goldkist and Ingram Manor Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Gover; a brother, William Houston; a sister, Helen Houston; and her parents, Wise Nobles and Tina Mae Nobles.
She is survived by her husband, Alfonzia Gover of Pell City; three daughters, Vickie Gover of Talladega, Felisha Carter of Talladega and Stephanie Beavers of Pell City; three sons, Christopher Gover of Lincoln, Wendell Gover of Atlanta, Ga., and Alonza Gover of Pell City; one sister, Earnestine Shelton of Pell City; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ephren McCoy, Darrell Taylor, Ken Shelton, Dwan Shelton, Coctrell Shelton, Ronnie Waites and Barry Waites.
Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

MARY ELIZABETH PETERSON
TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mary Elizabeth Peterson, 86, of 410 Christian St., will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. David Benton officiating. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery.
Mrs. Peterson died Feb. 7 at Citizens BMC. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, Whitman and Ruth Chapmon; a sister, Rena Beverly; and a brother, Whitman Chapmon Jr.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lee Blakney of Talladega; one son, John L. Peterson Sr. of Talladega; one sister, Maybell Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

ELLEN MAE DEER ADAMS
PELL CITY — Graveside service for Ellen Mae Deer Adams, 85, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham.
Mrs. Adams died Feb. 10. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Adams. She was a native of Pennsylvania, attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a graduate R.N. of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She married John Calvin Adams, then a major United States Infantry Company commander and she was a first lieutendant in the United States Nurse Corp. They both served in World War II. She served four years aboard Troop Ships converted into hospital ships and aboard U.S.A. H.S. ST Mahiel. She was a member of Highland’s United Methodist Church, Highland’s United Methodist Women’s Auxiliary, Marvin Williams Sunday School Class, was past president of Women’s Auxiliary of Highland’s Methodist Church and past president of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Adams Murphy and husband William Dennis Murphy; one son, John Calvin Adams Jr. and wife Barbara Bohannon Adams; sisters, Sara Deer Welsh of Wooster, Ohio, Wilma Deer Nourigate and husband William of Midway, Pa., and Margaret Deer Williams of Foley; one brother, David Deer of Jamestown, Pa., and wife Elaine; grandchildren, William Dennis Murphy Jr., Patricia Murphy Redman, Gayle Checketts and Larry Checketts; and one great-granddaughter, Memory Alexandra Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland United Methodist Church of Hospice.

JOHN MACKEY ADAMS
ASHLAND — Funeral service for John Mackey Adams, 91, will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Ashland. Burial will be in Ashland City Cemetery.
Mr. Adams died Feb. 11 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. He was known as ‘Daddy John’ by family and friends . He served the Clay County community for 60 years as a pharmacist and didn’t retire until his 80th birthday. he is remembered as a hard worker, a master craftsman and a religious and dedicated family man.
He is survived by one son, John Q. Adams of Talladega; a daughter, Patsy Adams Riley and husband Bob Riley, 3rd District congressman; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

WILLIAM ARANT
SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for William (Bill) Arant, 88, will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Jim Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Arant died Feb. 10.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Arant of Sylacauga; four sons, Bill Arant Jr. of Winter Haven, Fla., Franklin Arant of Auburndale, Fla., Claiborne Arant of Opelika and Carl Arant of Lexington, S.C.; one daughter, Doris Mathews of Lake City, S.C.; one brother, Carl Arant of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Jewel Myers of Indianapolis, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Samuel Harmon, Ashley Cabaniss, Lance Cabaniss, Tony Kelley, Benny Tidwell and Daniel Cockrell.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

WILLIAM TAFT BRADLEY
GOODWATER — Funeral service for William Taft Bradley will be Wednesday at noon at Macedonia Baptist Church in Goodwater with the Rev. Melvin Ervin officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Bradley died Feb. 7 at Coosa Valley BMC. He was born July 19, 1909.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Bradley; four daughters; two sons; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Armour’s Memorial Funeral Home in Alexander City will direct the service.

ANNIE BELL COOK
LINCOLN — Funeral service for Annie Bell Cook, 85, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jim Napp officiating. Burial will be in Patton’s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook died Feb. 10 at Citizens BMC. She was a native of Calhoun County, had lived in Lincoln for the past 70 years and was a member of Patton’s Chapel Baptist Church. She worked with people in the community on an ongoing basis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett E. Cook Sr., and a son, Fred Clayton Cook.
She is survived by six daughters, Mable Pettis of Lincoln, Fay Hale of Lincoln, Norma Owens of Talladega, Patricia A. Allred of Lincoln, Brenda Willoughby of Calera and Dana Partridge of Lincoln; three sons, William Dayton Cook of Talladega, Emmett E. Cook Jr. of Lincoln and Stanley Cook of Renfroe; 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wayne Cook, Jonathon Allred, Keith Owens, Phillip Pettis, Chris Cook and Eric Cook.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.
