Day

ALEXANDRIA - Services for Lawrence David Day, 49, of Alexandria will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Hutto officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. Day died Thursday, May 12, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Survivors include his daughter, Kaula Day, of Ohatchee; mother, Myrtie Day, of Alexandria; sisters, Cathy Nabors, her husband, Kenneth, and Barbara Rogers, her husband, Mike, all of Alexandria; brother, Doug Day, his wife, Lisa Day, of Heflin; grandmother, Clara Day, of New Bern, N.C. and five nieces.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Fleming, Derrick Houston, Leon Gault, Larry Medders, David Nunnelley, Byron Sanders, Odell Maxwell, Doug Finley, Scott Darnell and Gary Sprayberry. Mr. Day was a native of Etowah County, but lived in Calhoun County most of his life and was employed at FabArc Steel. He was a member of Mamre Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his father, Lawrence L. Day. Flowers will be accepted by the family or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gray

ANNISTON - Funeral services for Mrs. Lois J. Gray, 75, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Harper and Kenneth Burnham officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-7:30 at the funeral home. Mrs. Gray died Friday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her son, Jack Gray and his wife, Judy, of Anniston; two daughters, Diane Price and her husband, Paul, of Anniston and Sherry Burney and her husband, Don, of Weaver; four sisters, Ann Watson and her husband, Bobby, of Heflin, Opal Porco, of Anniston, Helen Bentley, of Bynum, and Betty Hughes and her husband, Forney, of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Shane Price, Marty Chandler, Eric Gray, Deanna Long, Anthony Cofield and Amy Burney; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shane Price, Robert Watson, Anthony Cofield, Blake Edwards, Chris Bentley and Tony Porco. Mrs. Gray was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and a member of West Weaver Baptist Church. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her husband Earnest Jack Gray.

Greene

CHULAFINEE - Services for Ruby Hudgins White Greene, 55, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Hurst

TALLADEGA - Funeral services for Mrs. Betty N. Hurst, of Talladega will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Visitation from 6-8 tonight at Usrey Funeral Home.

Jones

OXFORD - Funeral services for Annie L. Canada Jones, 75, of Oxford will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Oxford with Dr. Ron Ethridge and the Rev. Buck Greenwood officiating. Burial will follow in Edgemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 tonight at Miller Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones will lie in state one hour prior to service time at the church. Mrs. Jones died Friday at her residence.

Survivors include her husband George L. Jones; three children, Danny L. Jones, his wife, Mary, Donald A. Jones, his wife, Doris, and Nancy A. McCombs, her husband Dave; three brothers, James D. Canada, Lonnie W. Canada and Perry L. Canada; grandchildren, Danielle Tooker, Jason Jones, Kristie Smith, Zack Jones, Rachel McCombs, Craig McCombs, Luke McCombs and Sharon Wells; great-grandchildren, Jessie Tooker and Sadie Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jason Jones, Zack Jones, Craig McCombs, Luke McCombs, David Tooker and John Smith. Mrs. Jones was a longtime resident of Calhoun County and lived in Oxford most of her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Oxford and Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was retired from Oxford Fashions. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert L. "Doc" Canada and Jimmie Cecil Canada. Flowers may be sent or contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Oxford Building Fund or American Cancer Society.

McCormick

ANNISTON - Services for Curtis A. McCormick, 66, of Anniston will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Kirk officiating. The burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5-7 tonight at the funeral home. Mr. McCormick died Thursday, May 12, in Anniston.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Maxwell, of California; sons, Derek McCormick, of Eastaboga, Shane McCormick, of Ohatchee; step-children, Lynn Hanson, of Oxford, Gene Hammonds, of Alexandria, Steve Hammonds, of Montgomery, and John Hammonds, of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be George McCormick, Tommy McKee, Bill Nowland, Percy Lee Owen and Shannon Jackson. Mr. McCormick was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, a US Navy veteran and a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Parris

PIEDMONT - Funeral services for Ada Mae Parris, 71, of Piedmont will be Sunday at 3 p.m. from the Holley Crossroads Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Burns, Frank Parris, Harlin Beecham and Richie Beecham officiating. Burial will be at Grimes Cemetery. The family will receive friends at K.L. Brown Funeral Home from 6-8 tonight. Mrs. Parris will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Parris died Friday at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Parris Beecham, her husband, Jack, of Piedmont, Diane Parris Butler, her husband, Joe, of Anniston, Bonita Parris Christopher, her husband, Roy, of Jacksonville; a son, Johnny Parris, his wife Carol, of Jacksonville; a sister, Lena Freeman, her husband, Albert, of Plainville, Ga.; a brother, Homer Bennett, his wife, Judy, of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Richie Beecham, Mark Beecham, Joseph Beecham, Jammie Parris, Jason Parris, Jeffery Parris, Timothy Christopher, Jack Christopher, Billy Christopher, Josie Goforth, Daniel Christopher, Jr., Jake Christopher; great grandchildren, Jonathan Beecham, Thomas Beecham, Dakota Beecham, Auston Parris, Skyler Parris, Will Parris, Heather Gilbert, Tess Wallace, Samtha Wallace, Timothy Christopher, Jr., Cameron Christopher, Courtney Laney, Dylon Laney, Dawn Burrage, Jacob Goforth, Breana Grider, Sebastin Christopher, Jason Christopher, Kerry Christopher, Justin Fry; a special granddaughter-in-law, Angie Beecham; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tim Christioher, Billy Christopher, Jake Christopher, Jamie Parris, Jeffery Parris, and Rodney Freeman. Honorary pallbearers are Holley Crossroads Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Parris was a member of Holley Cross Roads Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duke Parris; her parents Lonnie D. Bennett and Alma Hudgins; a sister, Alverne Bennett; and a brother James Bennett. Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to the Holley Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Porter

PIEDMONT - Mrs. Clarise Porter, 95, of Piedmont passed away Friday, May 13. She is survived by her family. Funeral services will be announced by Adams-Buggs Funeral Service.

Walker

ANNISTON - Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Walker "Granny", 84, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, from Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church with the Rev. Charles Ruthledge officiating. Mrs. Walker passed away Monday, May 9, at Stringfellow Hospital. Mrs. Alma Walker is survived by a daughter, Patricia "Ann" Walker, of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Robert Walker, of Arkansas; four granddaughters, Shree Walker, of Anniston; Yolanda Walker, of Michigan, Doylette Walker, of Camden, Arkansas, and Sue McDaniel, of Garfield Heights, Ohio. Mrs. Walker was a resident of Anniston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Doyle Walker, and sons, James and Herman Walker.

LEEDS — Graveside services for Thomas W. Battles, 82, of Leeds, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston. Mr. Battles died Friday, May 13.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Battles; two sons, Thomas R. Battles, his wife, Jan, and Gary D. Battles, his wife, Dianne; two brothers, Charles B. Battles, his wife, Jessie Mae, the Rev. Floyd Battles, Sr., his wife, Edna; grandchildren, Alesha Smith, her husband, Jeff, David Battles, his wife, Sherrie; great grandchildren, Hannah Smith, William Battles and Emma Smith.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to American Cancer Society. Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds, Directing.

Bradshaw

ROANOKE — Graveside services for Mrs. Dorothy Awbrey Bradshaw, 87, will be 2 p.m. today from Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum in charge. Visitation: 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Crosby

ANNISTON — Services for Mrs. Alice Ann Crosby, 63, will be 2:00 Monday at Coldwater Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Gray Brown-Service from 12-1:15 prior to the service.

Edwards

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Hugh E. Edwards, 89, of Anniston will be announced by Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel.

Foggie

ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mary Jane Foggie, 81, of Anniston will be 11 a.m. today at Ft. Lincoln Funeral Home, Brentwood, Maryland. Burial will follow at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery. Ms. Foggie died Monday, May 9, at NHC Healthcare Center.

Survivors include her daughter Lark Fountain, of Cranberry, N.J.; son, Mason Miller, of Lakeland, Fla.; and sister, Blanch Denmark, of Washington, D.C. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Greene

HEFLIN — Funeral services for Ruby Hudgins White Greene, 55, of Heflin will be 2 p.m. today at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lanice White and the Rev. Dennis Hudgins officiating. Burial will be at Pinetucky Cemetery. Mrs. Greene died Thursday, May 12.

Survivors include three sons, Billy White, of Ranburne, Richard White, of Bowdon, Ga. and Greg White, of Anniston; brother, James Hudgins, of Heflin; two sisters, Martha Prichard and Pauline Thompson, all of Heflin, five grandchildren, Kasey White, Bradlee White, Dalton White, Breeana Swafford and R.J. Dennis.

Pallbearers are Bradlee White, Dalton White, Buddy Pointer, James Prichard, Ricky Watson and Terry Watson. Mrs. Greene was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County and was a Baptist by faith.

Hawkins

CENTRE — Funeral services for Lorene Hawkins, 81, of Centre will be 11 a.m. Monday at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Cherokee Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hawkins died Saturday.

Johnson

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral services for Steven Allen Johnson, 54, of Jacksonville will be 1 p.m. Monday at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. Darren Garrison and the Rev. Don Ledbetter officiating. Burial will follow at Seven Springs Cemetery with Gray Brown in charge. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. this evening and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson died Saturday, May 14, at UAB Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Rebecca Johnson, of Jacksonville; sons, James Hunter Johnson, of Piedmont and Ethan Clint Williams, of Jacksonville; mother Venna Orelia Johnson, of Southside; brothers, Gene Johnson, of Southside and Don Johnson, of Jacksonville; three nieces and one nephew.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Johnson, Shayne Johnson, Tim Williams, Mike Johnson, and Chris Gilbreath. Mr. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville. He was retired from USDA as a food inspector. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, a sports enthusiast, Little League Coach, avid Crimson Tide fan and a member of Angel Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Johnson and James Arthur Johnson.

Kirby

ROANOKE — Funeral services for Mr. Randy Harold Kirby, 48, will be at 2 p.m. Monday from Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel. Visitation from 4:30—9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Nettles

OXFORD — The Celebration of life and funeral service for Esther Lewis Nettles, 91, of Oxford, formerly of Monroe, La. will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, La., with the Rev. Robert Inzina officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Nettles was born in Galesburg, Ill., but was a longtime resident of Monroe and West Monroe. She was the owner and operator for many years of Esther's Shades Restaurant in Monroe. She was a member of the American Legion Post 111 in Oxford. She was preceded in death by her parents, Al Lewis, Grace Cunningham Alexander and Stepfather, L.O. Alexander; one sister, Mary Taylor and great granddaughter, Grace Ellen Holmes.

Survivors include one son, James C. Ray, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; two daughters, Judy Ray and husband, Gerald Mostella and Esther Grace and husband, John Allen Johnston; one sister, Margie Hoff of West Monroe, La. nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her companion, Robert McCrary of Oxford.

Pallbearers will be Steve Taylor, David Gilmore, Alex Gilmore, Paul Holmes, Phil Rodrigue and James Rodrigue. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, May 15, at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe.

Ogletree

TALLADEGA — Graveside rites for Camilla Lee Ogletree, 96, of Talladega, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Randolph Memorial Gardens with Dr. Larry Morris officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30-8 tonight at Usrey Funeral Home. Mrs. Ogletree died Saturday, May 14.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean O. Chase, of Oxford, a sister, Sibyl Morris, of Talladega; brother, John Isbell Kirk, of Lawton, Okla., three grandchildren, Pam C. Roberts, Cristy C. Humphries and Scott Chase; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Roberts, Patrick Syer, Todd Humphries, Chad Humphries and Dillon Chase. Mrs. Ogletree was a native of Clay County, but was a resident of Roanoke most of her life and lived in Talladega since 1971. She was a member of Alpine Baptist Church, Adult Sunday School Class and retired from Palm Beach Co. Donations may be made to Alpine Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Oxford.

Tierce

SPRING GARDEN — Services for the Rev. Druey H. Tierce, 78, of Spring Garden will be 11 a.m. Monday at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Bishop, the Rev. Chris Tierce and the Rev. Steve Tierce officiating. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memory Gardens with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends this evening from 5-8 at the funeral home. The Rev. Tierce died Saturday at his home.

Survivors include his daughter, Carol Payne, her husband Ronnie, of Birmingham; a son, Dennis Tierce, his wife, Mary, of Spring Garden, one brother, Russell Tierce, his wife, Joyce, of Spring Garden; three grandchildren, Brandi McKean, her husband, Robin, Keith Payne, his wife, Leah and Karla Payne, all of Birmingham; one great granddaughter, Olivia McKean, of Birmingham; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chris Tierce, Steve Tierce, David Tierce, Keith Payne, Greg Jackson and Scott Bradshaw. The Rev. Tierce was a native and resident of Cherokee County most of his life. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and was a minister in Alabama and Georgia for 37 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Gaylesville and was preceded in death by his wife, Toni Tierce. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Midsouth Division, Region 7, Birmingham, AL 35205.
