RUBY LEE GOGGANS BELYEU

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Ruby Lee Belyeu, 69, of Alexander City will be Monday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie J. Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

Mrs. Belyeu died Jan. 19 at Russell Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Spencer Goggans Sr. and Luella Burton Goggans.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Belyeu of Alexander City; six children, Joe N. (Jackie) Belyeu, Ben F. Belyeu, Doris J. Gamble and Lubecca S. Donald Marbury of Alexander City, Gary Belyeu of Lanett and Eric J. (Tamara) Belyeu of Chelsea; mother-in-law, Lena May Nolen of Alexander City; one sister, Annie May (Ara Jr.) Thomas; three brothers, Eddie Goggans of Kellyton, Ira Lewis (Theresa) Goggans of Inglewood, Calif., and the Rev. Bennie (Rosetta) Goggans Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; two stepsisters-in-law; one stepbrother-in-law; one aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Wright’s Funeral Home will direct the service.

VIOLA H. DATES

TALLADEGA — Viola H. Dates, 85, 197 Wolf Pond Road, died Jan.22 at her residence.

Funeral service will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

DWIGHT ANTHONY GREEN

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Dwight Anthony Green, 55, of Pell City will be Monday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City.

Mr. Green died Jan. 21 in Pell City.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Green; two daughters, Angela Johnson (Kelly) and Stephanie Mims (Crawford); grandchildren, Tony Johnson, Jessilyn Johnson and Clayton Mims; mother, Opal Lewis; sister, Frances Jackson; brothers, Tim Green and Johnny Green; and several nieces and nephews.

WALTER L. HOWARD

ALEXANDRIA — Walter L. Howard 73, of Alexandria, died Jan. 21 at Jacksonville Health/Rehab in Jacksonville.

Funeral service will be announced by Ervin Funeral Home.

GARY PITTS

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Gary Pitts, 58, of Ashland will be Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Lineville, with the Rev. Thompson Pitts officiating. Masonic graveside rites will follow in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Pitts died Jan. 21 at Clay County Hospital. He was born in Jay, Fla., to William Dewey and Emily Alice Horn Pitts, but lived in Clay County for most of his life. He was self-employed, but had worked in the maintenance department at Tyson Food for two years. He was a member of Lineville Masonic Lodge #219 F&A.M., and was a founding member of the Helping Hands Ministry and Feed My Sheep Christian Outreach in Talladega.

He is survived by his wife, Veatrice Pitts of Ashland; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice "Sissy" and Randy L. Moore of Ashland; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Stacey Pitts of Lineville; four sisters, Freda Horne and Opal Johnson of Lineville, Doris Boutwell of Brewton and Elaine Wiggins of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Bobby Pitts of Mississippi and James Pitts of Beatty, Nev.; four grandchildren, Zachary Pitts, Ricky Moore, Haley Pitts and LaSinda Pitts.

Pallbearers will be his fellow Masons.

The body may be viewed at the funeral home until service time.

Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville will direct the services.

WILLIE L. LLOYD

ANNISTON — Willie L. Lloyd, 65, of Anniston, died Jan. 22 at Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ervin Funeral Home.

PRINCE ROGERS PATTERSON

TALLADEGA — Prince Rogers Patterson, 22, 241 Long St., Talladega, died Jan. 22 in Talladega.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

WILLIE EARL PHILLIPS

HEFLIN — Willie Earl Phillips, 67, of Heflin died Jan. 21 at his residence.

Funeral service will be announced by Ervin Funeral Chapel.

WILLIAM ROBERT RICHEY

PELL CITY — Funeral service for William Robert Richey, 83, will be Sunday, Jan. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Jacky Connell and Brother Bill Ayres officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Richey died Jan. 21. He was a strong, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a deacon and longtime faithful member of Eden Westside Baptist Church. He was born in St. Clair County March 14, 1921, and was a retired ironworker from Local 92.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Vera Pauline Richey; two brothers, J.P. Richey and Odell Richey; a sister, Verdell Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Jere Henniger and Jason Henniger.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gussie V. Richey; a son, Terry L. Richey of Pell City; two daughters, Nelda (Thurman) Henniger of Cook Springs and Judy (Porter) Litty of Boaz; two sisters, Juanita Macon and Betty Foster of Pell City; six grandchildren, Thurman (Alecia) Henninger IV, Richey (Joy) Henninger; Scott (Kelley) Litty, Shannon (Brooks) Spruiell, Chris Richey and Jessica (Cory) Ramsey; eight great-grandchildren, Quint, Blake, Shelby and Baylee Henninger, Ashley and Austin Henninger, Jasmine Ramsey and Addie Spruiell; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.

VIOLA MARCHANT SHARP

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Viola Marchant Sharp, 96, of Ashland will be Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland, with the Rev. Micky Vaughn and the Rev. Jerry Edge officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Fla., at 11 a.m. Jan. 27.

Mrs. Sharp died Jan. 21 at Clay County Hospital. She was born in Georgia, but moved to Florida as a teenager. In 1932, she won a car selling subscriptions to the newspaper and lived all her adult life as a citrus grower in the Orlando, Fla., area until she retired and moved to Ashland in 1989. She was a member of the Wednesday Music Club, Sororis Women’s Club, Lazy Daisy Garden Club and Bridge Club. She was also a member of Bowden Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert N. Sharp; her parents, Reason N. Marchant and Emma Lou Paul Marchant; brothers, John Marchant, Leroy Marchant, Enic Jackson Marchant and James Paul Marchant.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Walker and husband Mark A. of Ashland; three sisters, Tempie Louise McCombs and Evelyn Romelle Crum of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Edna Wynelle Hendricks of Waldorf, Md.; two brothers, Gerald Marchant of Bowman, Ga., and Davy Lee Marchant of Moultrie, Ga.; two grandchildren, Scott Allen Walker of Birmingham, and Katherine Elaine Walker of Los Angeles, Calif.

Honorary pallbearers will be her caregivers, Liz Anderson, Judy Benefield, Judy Grogan, Mattie Strickland, Sandy Suvency and Wanda White.

The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Rescue Squad or Bowden Grove Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and until service time.

Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland will direct the service.

JUANITA E. SIMONDS

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Juanita E. Simonds, 97, will be Sunday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City. Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids, Mich.

Mr. Simonds died Jan. 21.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.
