MAE ELOISE SHADDIX COLE
HARRIMAN, Tenn. — Mae Eloise Shaddix Cole, age 89, passed away Monday June 23, 2008 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala. She was a member of Trenton St. Baptist Church, Harriman, Tenn. Survivors are a son, William H. Cole of Montevallo, Ala.; brother, Frank Shaddix and wife Catherine of Talladega, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral is 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kyker Funeral Home Chapel in Harriman with the Rev. Wendell Bradford and Ted Taylor officiating. Interment in Roane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kyker Funeral Home in Harriman.

TINA MARIE GRIMES

BON AIR — Memorial service for Tina Marie Grimes, 49, will be Thursday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Todd Reaves officiating. Ms. Grimes died June 23, 2008 at University of Alabama Hospital. She was active in community events and was an active member of the Bon Air City Council. She worked for some 20 years as a manager for the State of Alabama. She is survived by a daughter, Maleia Keel of Sylacauga; grandson, Aidan Cochran of Sylacauga; friend and father of Maleia, James Keel of Sylacauga; mother, Betty Grimes of Sylacauga; father, Tom Grimes of Weogufka; brother, Gene Grimes; sister, Belinda Deason; three nephews, two nieces, two great nieces, three great nephews and many, many friends. GEORGIA MARY WITHAM JOHNSON

SYLACAUGA — Georgia Mary Witham Johnson of Birmingham, formerly of Sylacauga, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her parents, George Lawrence Witham and Miriam Esther Strahan Witham of Mobile; her daughter, Janet Elizabeth Johnson and her sister, Patricia Ann Witham Giblett. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Sterling Johnson of Sylacauga; son, Roger Sterling Johnson of Arlington, VA; daughter, Carolyn Ann Johnson Rakers, her husband Patrick F. Rakers; and three grandsons, Luke, Zach and Grant Rakers of Birmingham. Georgia was born on April 8, 1929 in Bogalusa, LA. She was the oldest of two daughters. At the age of nine her family moved to Mobile where she attended the Academy of the Visitation. At the Academy she served as the Assistant Editor and Staff Artist for the yearbook. She was a member of Beta Sigma and Phi Gamma Chi scholastic honoraries and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Georgia furthered her education at the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Caroline Hunt Club, YWCA, and Triangle Association. She graduated with a B.A. Degree in Home Economics. After graduation Georgia moved to Sylacauga and worked in the Textile and Design department of Avondale Mills for six years. She was a member of the Sylacauga Sprig and Twig Garden Club, the University of Alabama Alumni Association and the business women's sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. On April 21, 1956 she married Robert Sterling Johnson at the First Baptist Church Chapel of Mobile. They settled in Sylacauga where they raised their family. Bob worked for Kimberly Clark Corporation and retired after 40 years of service. The Johnsons lived in Birmingham for the past three years at Brookdale Assisted Living, formerly Somerby.

Pallbearers will be Charles Brown, Asher Carmichael, Paul George, Jason Lober, Jerry Ousley and Patrick Rakers. Funeral services will be at Friday, June 27, at 3 p.m. at the Radney-Smith Chapel. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the services.

SYLACAUGA — Claudie McGhee, 62, died on June 24, 2008 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Community Funeral Home.

RIVERSIDE — Funeral services for Ms. Joyce Scumtiri Beavers, 47, will be Saturday, June 28, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cropwell, with the Rev. Maurice Keller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery, Cropwell. Mrs. Beavers will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Beavers died June 21, 2008 in Ragland. She was educated in the St. Clair County School System and Gadsden State Community College; and a security guard for Vincent Security. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Pickett Sr. She is survived by daughters, Brandi Beavers (Sherman Swain) of Pell City and Quonta Beavers (Allen Hayes) of Moody; mother, Dorothy L. Miles of Ragland; brothers, Joe D. Pickett Jr. (Sondra) of Alexandria, Earl D. Pickett (Tara) of Trussville, Ronnie Miles, Anthony Miles both of Ragland, and Antwan Byers of Jacksonville; sisters, Anita Harvell (Jerome) of Lawrenceville, Ga., Vera Pickett of Ellenwood, Ga., Vanessa Pickett of Pell City, Renay Rogers (Billy) of Riverside, Sharon Miles (Louis Nieves) and Tammy Howard (David) both of Gadsden; and one grandchild. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

She is survived by a son, Edward McDaniel; five daughters, Mary Ellen Calhoun, Shirley Owens, Josephine Lawson, Sandra Clark and Sheila Herron; two brothers, Wallace Vandegrift and Billy Joe Vandegrift; two sisters, Betty Jean Nelson and Pauline Woodard; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, June 27 from 6-9 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

BARBARA ANN McGHEE LOVE

VILLA RICA, Ga. — Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Ann McGhee Love, 52, formerly of Talladega, will be Saturday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at Harvest Church of God, 520 Golden Springs Road, Anniston, with Pastor Jerry Irwin, Pastor Don Maddox and the Rev. Johnny Twymon officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Anniston. Mrs. Love will lie in repose at the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mrs. Love died June 22, 2008 at Heartland Hospice House in Austell, Ga.. She was educated in the Talladega County School System; employed by Tanner Hospital in Carrollton, Ga.; former member of Africa Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Harvest Church of God. She was preceded in death by her father, Ben McGhee. She is survived by sons, Demetrius (Kimberly) McGhee of Anniston, Marshelley McGhee of Atlanta, Ga., and Courtney McGhee of Villa Rica, Ga.; mother, Annie McGhee of Villa Rica, Ga.; sisters, Earnestine Seals of Villa Rica, Ga., and Janet (Rudolph) Reynolds of Childersburg; and grandchild, Darius McGhee of Anniston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Church of God Building Fund. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

WILLIE PAYNE

SYLACAUGA — Willie (Bill) Payne formerly of Birmingham, went home to be with his Lord on the morning of June 26, 2008 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Lake Payne of Sylacauga; daughter, Sharon Payne Hardy of Sylacauga; son, William H. Payne Jr. (Gayla) of Sylacauga; granddaughter, Dr. Denise Hardy McKinney (Matthew) of Cumming, Ga.; grandson, James Howard (Jay) Hardy of Sylacauga; great grandchildren, Ethan John and Emma Rose McKinney, Colton Reed Hardy and Jacoby Matthew Carden; daughter-by-choice, Brenda Williams Howell; sisters, Dortha Mae Bradley of Trussville, Myrl Wren of Tuscaloosa and Ruby Nell Blythe of Oneonta; and brothers, Charles Payne of Oneonta and D.F Payne of Allgood. He was preceded in death by a son, Willie Pierce Payne; his parents, Will Henry and Margie Terrell Payne of Oneonta; brothers, Carl Payne, Hoyt Payne and Kline Payne; sister, Joycie Payne Smith; and son-in-law, John Glenn Hardy. Mr. Payne served his country in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign with the U.S. Army during World War II having been awarded two Purple Hearts, two oak leaf clusters, and a Bronze Star Meritorious Unit Award. He received a Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and two Headquarters 77th Infantry Div 15 Overseas Service Bars. He marched with the Statue of Liberty Company across the Philippines to Japan. Mr. Payne was on a battleship off the coast of Japan when the Japanese surrendered. He served 18 months occupational duty in Japan after the war ended. Mr. Payne is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. While in the Army, Mr. Payne was trained to drive a transport vehicle used to rescue prisoners of war after the end of the war. This training led to a lifetime career in transportation. He owned his own trucking company for most of his forty-five year career having driven over three million accident free miles. Mr. Payne retired from Teamsters and was a job steward for the Locale 612. He was the oldest member of Oldfield Baptist Church serving in many lay capacities with special emphasis on the needy, elderly and widowed. Mr. Payne was a very benevolent person who was known for giving back to his family, friends and community. The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to the benevolence fund at Oldfield Baptist Church, c/o Randall Brazier, 132 Oldfield Circle, Sylacauga, Ala. 35150 or to the American Diabetes. Association, 200 Office Park Dr., Suite 303, Birmingham, Ala. 35223. Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, from 1-3 p.m. Mr. Payne's funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Childress and the Rev. SYLACAUGA — Graveside service for Dorothy Lee Salter, age 78, will be Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Lewis Archer officiating. Mrs. Salter died June 23, 2008 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Salter. Mrs. Salter was a member of First United Methodist Church. She is survived by sons, Ken Salter of Roswell, Ga., and Jeff Salter of Sylacauga; stepson, Jim Salter of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepdaughter, Sandra Allen of Houston, Texas; and granddaughter, Morgan Salter. She is survived by her parents, Kevin Scott and Tressa Duniphan-Scott of Talladega; four brothers, Skyler Scott of Lanett, Dylan Duniphan of Granite City, IL, Alex Duniphan of Talladega and Jonah Scott of Talladega; three sisters, Madisyn Duniphan of Granite City, IL, Gabrielle Scott of Talladega and Kylie Scott of Talladega; grandparents, Lowell Duniphan of Brighton, IL, Donald and Diana Alfaro of Granite City, IL, Gary Bouldin of Carthage, Tenn., and Charles and Karen Moore of Athens; great grandparents, Mabel Birchfield of Athens and Betty Ann Bouldin of Rock Island, Tenn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. SYLACAUGA — Funeral services for Allen Craig Carter, 51, are Saturday, June 28, at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Clarence C. Carter officiating. Interment will be in Coosa Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Vincent. Mr. Carter died June 23, 2008 in Green County.

Survivors include one daughter, Diamond Linnea Carter, Childersburg; three sons, Cameron M. Carter, Sylacauga, Tymark Whetstone, Detroit, MI, Montrel Phillips, Birmingham; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mary J. McGraw and Pauline McGinnis; seven brothers, Earnest (Jennifer) Carter, Freddie (Carolyn) Carter, Pastor Clarence (Mary) Carter, Jerry (Catherine) Carter, Jimmy (Ada) Carter, Charles (Elenora) Carter, Robert Carter; sister-in-law, Alma Carter; fiancΘ, Tracie Gamble; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was a native of Shelby County. Childersburg Mortuary will direct the services.

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Ms. Mary Virginia Goray, 79, will be Sunday, June 29, at 1 p.m. at Usrey Chapel, Talladega, with Dr. Randy Hagen officiating. Burial will be in Hepzibah Baptist Cemetery. Ms. Goray died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Talladega Health Care Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County. She was of the Baptist faith and retired from Bemis Co. She is survived by a sister, Jo Ann Liner of Talladega; brothers, James Goray of Talladega and Tom Goray of Birmingham. Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Usrey.

Pallbearers are Randy Liner, Joey Liner, Dennis Goray, Robert Goray, Langdon Goray, and Ladelle Goray. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

TALLADEGA — Pauline Jenkins, 95, passed away June 27, 2008 at Citizens BMC. Services will be announced later by Talladega Funeral Home.

JAMES LEWIS (JADE) McKENZIE

VINCENT — Funeral services for James Lewis (Jade) McKenzie, 52, will be at on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Community Church in Harpersville. Burial will be in the Coosa Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Vincent. Dr. B. R. Johnson will be officiating. Mr. McKenzie passed on June 26, 2008 at his residence. He was a United States Army veteran. He is survived by his daughter, Clarissa McKenzie of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Betty Robertson, Dorothy Faye Chancellor and Dr. Janell McKenzie all of Vincent; grandson, Safua Scafe (Fire); granddaughter, Nandi of Atlanta, Ga.; devoted friend, Jennete Buckhannon of Childersburg; godson, Zachary Buckhannon of Childersburg; aunts, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be the Rev. Earnest Norwood, James Hayes, Ricky and Victor Fair, Andre' and Terry Hamilton. Flowerbearers will be friends of the family. Visitation will be at on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Community Funeral Home. Community Funeral Home will direct the services.

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Mrs. Barbara Turner Moriarty, 43, will be Monday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Chapel, Pell City, with the Rev. Michael Casey officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Moriarty died Friday, June 27, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Moriarty; son, Christopher Moriarty; parents, W.E. and Angie Turner; sister, Lanita (Rubel Edward) Bowlin; brothers, Frank (Pam) Turner, Robert (Carolyn) Turner; and several nieces and nephews. MOODY — Funeral service for Mrs. Eltora E. Murray, 90, will be Monday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at Usrey Chapel, Pell City, with the Rev. Earnest Walker officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Murray died Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Murray, who she met in Hawaii in 1959; and by a daughter, June Spence. She is survived by a daughter, Jan Lopatka; sister, Edna Whitfield; brother, Paul Callahan; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday from 10-11 a.m. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

CHARLES WILLIAM TAYLOR

SYLACAUGA — Charles William Taylor, 66, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at his residence. He was born on Saturday, Nov. 15, 1941 in Chilton County, Alabama, son of the late William Brannon Taylor and the late Claudie Marie Penton. He was a meat cutter. Surviving are his wife, Leila Taylor of Sylacauga; daughter, Jean Taylor of Wetumpka; three grandsons, Cass Taylor of Arab, Luke Taylor of Arab, Justin Taylor of Sylacauga; two granddaughters, Tina Taylor of Sylacauga and Kala Taylor of Sylacauga. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Brannon and Claudie Marie Taylor; a brother, Julius Brannon Taylor; and four sons, Lloyd Edward, Christopher Clark, Charles Warren and Jeff Taylor. Friends will be received from 12-1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, prior to the service. Services will be at Saturday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
