AVIS CORRINE NICHOLS JOINER

LEEDS — Funeral service for Avis Corrine Nichols Joiner, 65, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds. Burial will be in Kendrick Cemetery.

Mrs. Joiner died Dec. 1.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Joiner; daughters, Glenda Castleberry, Celia Taylor and Ruth Brown; sons, Frankie Joiner, David Joiner, Michael Joiner, Roger Joiner and Darren Joiner; brothers, Junior Nichols, C.D. Nichols, Dale Nichols, Arless Nichols, Edward Nichols, Vernon Nichols, Randy Nichols, James Herring and Jerry Herring; sisters, Every Ree Rich, Mavis Batson and Linda Kay Wallace; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

MARCENE WILSON LANIER

BIRMINGHAM — A private memorial service is planned for Marcene Wilson Lanier.

Mrs. Lanier died Dec. 1. She was the daughter of Roy Elmo Wilson Sr. and Susie Mae Godwin.

She is survived by her husband, Marion (Red) M. Lanier; four children, Judy Cruse, Robert W. Lanier, William C. Lanier and Betsey Lanier; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Abanks Mortuary and Crematory in Birmingham is in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES EARL TRIPLETT

LINEVILLE — Funeral service for James Earl Triplett, 81, was Monday at Faith Assembly of God with Pastor Joe Young and Pastor Dee Anderson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Triplett died Nov. 30 at the Lineville Nursing Facility. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, was a former maintenance department worker with the city of Lineville and a member of Faith Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by two sons, Billy and Larry Triplett.

He is survived by his wife, Essie B. Triplett of Lineville; two daughters, Kathy Tapley and Lisa Jordan of Lineville; two sons, Joe Triplett of Carrollton, Ga., and Terry Triplett of Lineville; one sister, Vida Harris of Lineville; one brother, John Triplett of Victorville, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The staff at Lineville Nursing Facility served as honorary pallbearers.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville directed the service.

SHAWONIA GILHAM WELDON

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Shawonia Gilham Weldon, 34, was Saturday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Crest Cemetery.

Mrs. Weldon died Nov. 26.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Weldon; one son, Aaron Weldon; her father, the Rev. Don Gilham; one sister, Donna Gilham Pond; two brothers, Harold Gilham and Mark Gilham; and other relatives.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

STEPHEN MATTHEW WELDON

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Stephen Matthew Weldon, 16, was Saturday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Crest Cemetery.

The youth died Nov. 26. He was a student at Pell City High School.

He is survived by his father, Steve Weldon; one brother, Aaron Weldon; his grandparents, the Rev. Don Gilham, Joyce Weldon and Leroy Weldon; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the service.

MINNIE LOUISE WORTHY

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Minnie Louise Worthy, 78, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Russell Farms Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Henderson and the Rev. Bobby Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Worthy died Nov. 30 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 20, 1924, in Alexander City. She worked for many years at Roses Department Store in Alexander City as well as several of the local Dairy Quicks and at Adams Nursing Home. She was a member of Hillabee Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Charles Worthy of Willow, Alaska and the Rev. Richard Worthy of Bon Air; three daughters, Nancy Speake and Teresa Allen of Alexander City and Susan Pike of Gulf Shores; one brother, Henry Baker Jr. of Alexander City; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Pallbearers will be Greg Pike, Marty Worthy, Eric Pike, Michael Pike, Bo Worthy and John Worthy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Chambers, Jeff Peppers, the Rev. Reuben Prater and Buddy Westbrook.

Radney's Funeral Home in Alexander City will direct the service.

GLADYS MARIE AUSTIN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Gladys Marie Austin, 34, of 211 West Park St., will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Equality with the Rev. J.O. Blackmon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Austin died Nov. 29 at Coosa Valley BMC. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was employed by Madix Corporation in Goodwater.

She is survived by her husband, David Austin of Sylacauga; one son, Marquis Smith of Sylacauga; her father, Sammy Smith; her mother, Betty Smith; six brothers, Clarence Heard and William Heard of Grand Rapids, Mich., Johnny McNeal, Marcus Smith and Sammy Smith of Alexander City and Daniel Tuck of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Brenda Moon of Alexander City and Betty Lawson of Sylacauga and a host of other relatives.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until 9 p.m.

Nephews and brother-in-laws will serve as pallbearers.

Nieces and sister-in-laws will serve as flowerbearers.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

DORIS E. CHURCH

CROPWELL — Funeral service for Doris E. Church, 80, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. Don Phillips and Dr. John Thweatt officiating. Burial will be in Valley Hill Memorial.

Mrs. Church died Dec. 2. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pell City and was a member of the Pell City Senior Citizens Center. Prior to moving to Cropwell in 1990, she attended Dalraida Baptist Church in Montgomery where she served as a G.A. Leader, Sunday school teacher and the director of the "Homebound Ministry".

She is survived by her husband, Jim A. Church of Cropwell; two daughters, Sandra Gail Weber and husband Gail of Huntsville and Beverly Abbott and husband Joe Paul of Pell City; six grandchildren, Andy Weber, Ashley Weber, Jay Moseley and wife Ann Marie, Jeff Moseley and wife Chantal, Michael Abbott and Paula Abbott and one great-grandchild, Savannah Moseley.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grandsons and son-in-laws will serve as pallbearers.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

RAY HARRIS

ASHVILLE — Funeral service for Ray Harris, 63, was Monday at 11 a.m. at Ridout's-Brown Service Gardendale Chapel with Dr. James Sampley officiating. Burial was in Walker Chapel.

Mr. Harris died Nov. 28.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Harris; three daughters, Bonnie Lou Harris of North Carolina, Patricia Horsley of Trafford and Evelyn Stevens of Ashville; eight grandchildren; two stepbrothers and two stepsisters.

Pallbearers were Ray Kiker, John Leslie, Rick Davis, Chris Owens, Gary McDaniel and Don Sharp.

Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Brown and Randy Thompson.

Ridout's-Brown Service Gardendale Chapel directed the service.

WILLIAM E. HERNON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for William E. (Bill) Hernon, 71, was Monday at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross, Ga. military graveside memorial service followed in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell.

Mr. Hernon died Nov. 27. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Lorry Hernon; his parents, Bob and Ethel Hernon and his brother, Earl (Pug) Johnson. He was a native of Manistee, Mich., and proudly served as a senior Sonarman in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. During that time, he served in the Korean Conflict and Vietname War. He was an avid motorcyclist, member of AMA, HOG and support member of the Atlanta Chapter of Women on Wheels. He was also a member of the VFW, Loyal Order of Moose, was a Master Mason and a member of the American Legion. A man's man — to be trusted and revered by all who he came into contact with. A man to be trusted and loved. The world has dropped a few stars with the passing of BILL. We will never sleep quite the same without Chief Petty Officer William Hernon on duty. His passing is a tremendous loss to us all.

He is survived by his children, Toni McCall of Buford, Ga., and Bill Hernon of Murphy, N.C.; six grandchildren, Brian Riley, Jimmy Riley and Kevin Riley of Buford, Ga., Michael Hernon and Jennifer Hernon of Concord, N.C., and Tesheka Hudson of Brevard, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kathy McCall, P.O. Box 215, Balsam Grove, N.C., 28708 for Jeri Lynn Wilkerson's wheel chair fund.

Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home in Norcross, Ga., directed the service.
