Joseph Adams

Sept. 6, 2003

Funeral services for Joseph Adams, 69, of Pittsfield, Mass., and formerly of Tallapoosa County will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Sardis Baptist Church in Dadeville. The Rev. Henry L. Moss will officiate. Burial will follow at the Dadeville City Cemetery.

Mr. Adams died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at Hill Commons in Pittsfield, Mass. He was a native of Dadeville and attended high school in Tallapoosa County. He moved to Pittsfield, Mass., in 1960.

He is survived by four sisters, Magdalene Adams of Pittsfield, Mass., Mary Margie Kelly and Jessie Bell Adams, both of Stamford, Conn., and Pearl Gibbs of Charleston, S.C.; four brothers, Amos Adams Jr., of Waterloo, Iowa, Governor Adams of Stamford, Conn., Elmer Adams of Trumbull, Conn., and James Morgan of Dadeville; a longtime friend, Evelyn Morawski, two sisters-in-law, Kathy Adams of Trumbull, Conn., and Patrice Morgan of Dadeville; one brother-in-law, Graylin Gibbs of Charleston, S.C.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Ada Adams.

Vines Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Warren Earl Williamson

1912-2003

Funeral services for Warren Earl Williamson, 90, of Tallassee will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 2602 Gilmer Ave., Tallassee.

Mr. Williamson was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003. He spent most of his life in California and moved to Tallassee in 1988. He received an Associate of Arts degree from Ventura College. He and his wife, Maldon, spent many years auditing the history classes he loved at Auburn University at Montgomery. He raised citrus on his ranch in California while at the same time he owned and operated a dental laboratory. He also built beautiful furniture, designed and built a fiberglass sportscar and built a Mercury Class sailboat, which he raced in Ventura and Santa Barbara. He and his wife traveled extensively around the world and had cherished friends in many countries. Williamson was a man who gave selflessly of himself for the betterment of others and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maldon; three daughters, Jean Kerr and husband Paul of Tallassee, Maureen Hutchinson, Clovis, of California and Kathleen DeArmond and husband Ronald of West Hills, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, Sherilyn Gritz and husband Craig, Patricia Place and husband Brent, David Herron, Diana McMahon and husband Brian, Brian DeArmond, Jeffrey Piros and wife Shawn, Marquam Piros and wife Anne, Richard Kerr, Stephen Kerr and wife Kim, Margaret Kerr and husband David Snell, Jennifer Kerr and husband Duncan McElroy, Daniel Kerr and wife Kelli; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Episcopal Chruch of the Epiphany Building or Memorial Fund or to the Patricia J. Bradley History Scholarship Fund at Auburn University at Montgomery.

Alabama Funeral Homes and Cremation Centers of Dadeville are in charge of arrangements.

Christine F. Gilliland

Sept. 8, 2003

Funeral services for Christine F. Gilliland, 81, of Dadeville will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gilliland died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta.

Radney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melba Darlene Boyd

1941-2003

Funeral services for Ms. Melba Darlene Boyd, 62, of Alexander City will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel. Randy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Radney's Funeral Home.

Ms. Boyd was born Feb. 27, 1941, in Alexander City to William Floyd Davis and Eston White Perry. She died at her residence. She worked as an inspector for Russell Corp. where she later retired.

She is survived by one son, James William Gilliam and wife Kitty of Alexander City; one daughter-in-law, Vicky Gilliam Oliver of Reeltown; mother Eston White Perry of Opelika; one brother, Ronald Davis of Alexander City; one grand-daughter, Elizabeth Gilliam and one step-grandson, Harley Johnston.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Floyd Davis and her son Ralph Richard Gilliam, Jr.

William "Bill" Carr of Eclectic died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Radney's Funeral Home.

Velma Henderson

1911-2003

Funeral services for Velma "Dobbie" Henderson, 92, of Dadeville will be at 3 p.m., Monday, September 8, at First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Rev. Jim Pate and Brother Richard Hall will officiate. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, September 7.

Velma Henderson died Friday, September 5. She was born August 10, 1911 to Luke Tolbert Langley and Maggie Lee Reynolds Langley.

Velma Henderson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dadeville.

She is survived by her husband Raymond S. Henderson of Dadeville, her daughter Carolyn and Bill Moon of Dothan, her sister Julia Langley of Camp Hill and her niece, Susan Strong of Katy, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sally Smith and her brothers Lewis Langley and Denson Langley.

Memorial flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dadeville.

Langley Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Lee Jones Jr.

1949-2003

Funeral services for Samuel Lee Jones Jr., 54, of Goodwater will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at St. James AME Church. The Rev. Raymond Angel will officiate. Burial will follow at New Style Cemetery.

Mr. Jones died Aug. 14, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was born Aug. 27, 1949, to Samuel L. Jones Sr. and Mae Etta Jones.

He is survived by his wife Mary G. Jones of Goodwater; three sons, Roderick Kennedy and wife Theresa of Rochester, N.Y., Terrance Harrison and wife Patricia and Samuel Smoot, both of Goodwater; three step-sons, Ray Charles Fuller of California, Edward Fuller and Arnold Fuller, both of Sylacauga; one daughter, Deandra Moon and husband Quintez of Kellyton; four step-daughters, Isabelle Chaverst of Childersburg, Annie Simmons and husband Terry of Goodwater, Marilyn Fuller and husband Lee and Tammy Murphy and husband Patrick, both of Sylacauga; two brothers, Charles Jones and wife Doris and Frank Jones, both of Goodwater; one sister, Teresa Horton of Kellyton, nine grandchildren, 24 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. Jones Sr. and Mae Etta Jones.
