DeSIMONE, Mary Nicometo

DeSIMONE, Mary Nicometo of Hope Hull passed away on November 19, 2009. She was born in Oakfield, New York on September 18, 1924 to Costanzo and Candita Nicometo. Mrs. DeSimone moved to Montgomery in 1955, opening the Chuck Wagon Restaurant with her husband Edmond on old US 31 at what is now the corner of Air Base Boulevard and Day Street, which they owned for 17 years. They later owned and operated Mary and Ed's Restaurant on Narrow Lane Road. After retiring, Mrs. DeSimone remained active in the American/Italian Club as well as spending time with her beloved family and friends. Mrs. DeSimone is survived by her devoted son Ed DeSimone and wife Merry and grandson Eddie of Atlanta; daughter Paula and husband Bryan Morgan currently of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta; granddaughter Heather Lammons, her husband David and their children Ashton, Ayden, Averi, Arrabella and Abigail; granddaughter Hilary DeSimone and son Cory; sister, Olga Deas; brothers, Dominic Nicometo and Albert Nick; sister, Connie Woodruff; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Mrs. DeSimone was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years Edmond DeSimone; son David DeSimone; sisters Jeanie Nicometo and Florence Rapone; and brothers Charles, Frank, James, and Arthur Nicometo. Visitation will be at Leak-Memory Chapel on Monday November 23, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow. Funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church on Tuesday November 24, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., burial to follow at St. Margaret's in Oakwood Cemetery. PORTER, Lucille Rainey, 83, of Vestavia, AL and a former resident of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2009. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Lucille Lawson, Jasper, GA; Marjorie Marie Yeargan, Dadeville, AL; Kathryn Anne Partin, Mobile, AL; one son, Donald Meredith Monroe, Jr., Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren. McLEOD, Jack Winston, Sr.

McLEOD, Jack Winston, Sr., 75, a resident of Prattville, AL, died on Saturday, November 21, 2009, after an extended illness. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with Harry Shepherd officiating, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Mr. McLeod was a devoted father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. Mr. McLeod graduated in 1961 from Auburn University. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Masons. He is survived by three daughters, Lindy Jones, Julie (Douglas) Marks, and Hallee McLeod; two sons, Jack (Michelle) McLeod, Jr., and Richard McLeod; five grandchildren, Christalyn Jones, Josh Marks, Bronwyn McLeod, Sean McLeod, and Richard McLeod; one sister, Betty Jo (Harry) Shepherd; and numerous extended family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Motley, Bobby Bowen, Curtis Johnson, Wayne Boggs, Yogi Howell, Curt Howell, Paul Fay, Bobby Casteel, "Chester Charger", and Bill Roberts. Mrs. Glasscock was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Guy Glasscock, Sr. She is survived by her children, Ray Ann (Stan) Solomon, John T. (Roxanne) Glasscock, Charly Fitzgerald, Raymond Guy (Priscilla) Glasscock, Jr. and Emily Elaine (Chris) Cleghorn; nine grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. HARTLEY, James Doyle

HARTLEY, James Doyle, age 78, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Charlotte Hartley; a sister, Betty Littlefield of Eureka, CA; children, Carolyn Hartley of Montgomery, Monterey (Bobby) Winge of Panama City, FL, Johnathan (Susan) Hartley of Prattville, Catherine Scott of Hoover, AL and Betty Gail (Randall) Clayton of Montgomery, AL; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by a son, William Harold "Tiger" Hartley. He was an active member of Frazer United Methodist Church and a selfless volunteer with the Church, as well as Montgomery Junior Golf Association. He loved to fish, ride his lawnmower, play golf with his wife, attend his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events and most anything else that allowed him to be outside. Despite spending two years battling cancer, he continued to be there for and take care of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He battled cancer with dignity, grace and a few choice words along the way. Funeral services will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. McGOUGH, Helen Marie Smith Bagley, of Montgomery, Alabama went to Heaven on January 19, 2010, at the age of 88. Visitation will be at Leak Memory Funeral Home in Montgomery on Friday, January 21, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, with a service celebrating her life on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 10:00 am, at First Baptist Church, 305 South Perry Street, Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. Jay Wolf officiating. She will lie in state one hour before the service for viewing. Helen was born on April 15, 1921, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George E. Bagley of Montgomery, Alabama, parents Bessie Gertrude Lee Smith and Charles Franklin Smith, brothers Charles Franklin "Buddy" Smith, Jr. and David Calvin Smith, sister Doris Jeanne Smith Carter Crawford, all of Atlanta, Georgia, and Marjorie Smith Davis of Keystone Heights, Florida. She is survived by her children Annelle Bagley Reed and husband Stretch of Tuscaloosa and their children Nathan (Grayson, GA), Shannon and Gavin (both of Birmingham) and KendyllAn Reed (Tuscaloosa); James Carter Bagley and wife Faye of Montgomery and their children Jennifer Bagley McCracken (Kyle), Tuscaloosa, AL, and Stephanie (Montgomery); and Edwin Bagley and wife Cheryl of Monroe, North Carolina and their children Marjorie Bagley (Greensboro, NC) and Elizabeth Zimmer (Todd), Berkeley, CA; and her sisters Claudene Smith Farrar and husband Gene of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Earlene Smith Edgens and husband George Snellville, Georgia, and 39 nieces and nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her husband of 10 years, Homer E. McGough, his children Elton McGough (Sue) of Elkton, Kentucky, Albert McGough (Linda), and their children and grandchildren. Helen worked at numerous jobs growing up in a large family during the depression, including the US Army Forces Command at Fort McPherson. With the promise of a job at a church in Athens, Georgia, she left to attend Woman's Missionary Union Training School, Louisville, Kentucky. There she met and later married George Bagley, and they moved to Avoca, Indiana, where he pastored a small Baptist church while he finished school at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. They moved to Montgomery, Alabama in 1945, where he began his 38 years of ministry with the Alabama Baptist Convention. Helen and George joined Cloverdale Baptist Church, where they raised their children and served faithfully for many years. She went back to school while raising their three children, receiving a BA from Huntingdon College, an MA from Auburn University, and a Doctor of Humane Letters from Judson College in recognition of her many years of leadership in education, church, and denominational service across Alabama and the Southern Baptist Convention. Helen began teaching English at Lanier High School in 1964, helped develop the first Honors English program in Montgomery Public Schools, and later became a Guidance Counselor at Lanier, retiring after 18 years. During these years, George and Helen became close friends and traveling companions with Homer and Margaret McGough. Helen and Margaret both taught English and were Guidance Counselors at Lanier High School. Following George's and Margaret's going to Heaven in 1998, Helen married her "best friend" and neighbor Homer McGough, and she joined him and James' family as members of First Baptist Church of Montgomery. Helen had a passion for her Lord, His church, her family, students and friends. We will all look forward to seeing her again, when she is healthy and happy with our Lord Jesus Christ. SHREVE, Nell Adams, 82 of 207 Geary Dr. Montgomery, AL passed away at Noland Hospital on January 20, 2010. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Friday, January 22, 2010. SYLVESTER, Frances Hug

SYLVESTER, Frances Hug, lately of Opelika and Birmingham, died on January 15 after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Sylvester was born June 8, 1920 at Virginia Beach, Virginia the daughter of Henry Bernard and Myrtle (Huggie) Toliver Hug. She grew up at Fort Benning where her father was the chief civilian administrator. She attended Columbus High School, was graduated from the University of Georgia and later earned a master's degree from Auburn University. Frances married the late Athol R. Sylvester, Jr. in 1950. They lived and raised their family in Geneva, Talladega, and Opelika where Frances taught school and was active in community organizations including the United Methodist Church and March of Dimes. Survivors include two sons, Robert Watson Sylvester and his wife, Ann, of Newark, DE and William Rembert Sylvester and his wife, Sybil, of Birmingham and their families; and one sister, Theresa Hug Borders of LaGrange, GA. A memorial service is planned at Trinity United Methodist Church, Opelika, AL at 10:30 AM, Monday January 25. Burial will be private. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church or the March of Dimes.

AMASON, Mary Emma Sellers

AMASON, Mary Emma Sellers, age 87, died March 21, 2010, at Jackson Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a retired employee of the State of Alabama Department of Revenue. A service honoring her life will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel at 10:00 AM on March 25, 2010. She will be laid to rest next to her late husband, John W. Amason, Jr., at a private family interment at Fair Prospect Cemetery later in the day. Her family will receive relatives and friends at a visitation to be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday. She is survived by seven children and their respective spouses: Judy A. Stone (Montgomery); Ann A. Hutcheson (Prattville); Dr. Michael and Mary John A. Gilchrist (Montgomery); Lance and Joan A. Kelly (Ramer); Mark Givens and Jane Amason (Wetumpka); John W. Amason, III (Ramer); and Jimmy and Janice Weekley (Coosada). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 grandchildren-in-law, and 9 great grandchildren. Other family members surviving Mary Emma include her sister-in-law, Ruth Amason Hooks Arant; brother-in-law, William Coleman Amason; and brother-in-law and spouse, Gib Holody Amason and Vernelle Forbes Amason. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be her son and five grandsons. BAKER, Mary Edna, a resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010. (Meza) Cauthen, and one beloved seven week old granddaughter, Dixie Lynn Meza, one sister and best-friend, Shannon D. Mrs. Morsch is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul S. Morsch, and two daughters, Terry Morsch of Montgomery, AL and Patti Morsch of Orlando, FL. Pallbearers will be Deacons of Morningview Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be the Starlight Sunday School Class. WRIGHT, Lindsey Darrell

WRIGHT, Lindsey Darrell, age 79, a resident of Prattville, AL, passed away on March 23, 2010, at Jackson Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Wright was born September 25, 1930 in Bowden, GA. Funeral services will be held on March 26, 2010 at 2:00 from the chapel of Prattville Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Travis Coleman, Jr. and Rev. Dave Burnes officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens. Mr. Wright, proudly served his country as a veteran of the Army and Alabama National Guard. He served 1 1/2 years in the Occupation Army in Bad Tolz, Germany after WW II, assigned to the 1st Infantry Division Headquarters. He served in combat in the Korean War in 1951 - 1952, with the 25th Infantry Division and retired after 43 years of military service, in July 1990. The Alabama National Guard honored him in 1992 by naming the Prattville Armory, "Fort Lindsey Darrell Wright." Mr. Wright will be honored with a military funeral conducted by the Alabama National Guard. Mr. Wright was a member of the Autaugaville Baptist Church. His family was very dear to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Katie and Clarence Wright and his sister, Millie Wright Schmidt, Niceville, FL. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Marian Hassler Wright; one daughter, Sherry Wright (James) Kennedy; two sons, Timothy D. Wright, Patrick C. (Lucy) Wright, his granddaughters, Lindsey (Brent) Jones, Claire Wright, Abby Wright, and Anna Wright; his grandsons, Nathan (Amy) Kennedy, Cameron Wright, Jason Wright, and Daniel Wright; great-grandchildren, Carly Jones, Zoe Jones, Baker Jones, and Hayes Kennedy. His brother in law, Raymond Schmidt, nephew and niece, Steven Schmidt and Julie Schmidt. The family will receive friends and relatives at Prattville Memorial Chapel March 26, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church, 138 S Washington St, Prattville, Al. 36067 building fund, or Vista Care Hospice at 700 Interstate Park Drive, Suite 715, Montgomery, AL 36109. Honorary pallbearers will be the four grandsons Nathan Kennedy, Cameron Wright, Jason Wright, and Daniel Wright.

KIRKLAND, Julian Astor

KIRKLAND, Julian Astor, a 96 year old WWII veteran, passed away at home in Montgomery, Alabama on Friday, March 19, 2010. He was the son of Nella Smith Kirkland and Thomas Alonzo Kirkland of Newville, Alabama. Viewing will be in Montgomery at Ross-Clayton Funeral Home. Family will attend from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Newville, AL on Saturday at 12 noon.
