Lillie Mae Niven, 81, of Alexander City, formerly of Wilsonville died Sept. 19, 2003, at an Alexander City care facility. She was born in 1922 in Wilsonville.

She is survived by her sister, Della Beall of Maryland; her brother, Merrill E. (Mary) Niven; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Service was Sept. 23 at Bolton Brown Service Chapel, the Rev. Red Vansant presiding. Burial followed in Wilsonville City Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

MELVIN HENRY PEAL

Columbiana resident

Melvin Henry Peal, 54, of Columbiana died Sept. 11, 2003, at his home. He was born in June 1949 in Columbiana.

He is survived by his parents, Willie and Carrie Peal; his brother, Herbert Peal, David Peal and Ricky Peal, all of Columbiana; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was Sept. 12 at Florence Cemetery, Brother Billy Carter presiding and Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

TOMMY RAY POINTER

Montevallo resident

Tommy Ray Pointer, 51, of Montevallo died Sept. 16, 2003. He was born in Alabama in February 1952, the son of Hugh Clifton Pointer and Wilma Pearl Martin Pointer.

He was owner of Discount Mobile Homes.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jacqueline Reynolds Pointer; five children; and one stepson.

Arrangements were directed by Charter Funeral Home.

GEORGIA GULAS SARRIS

Birmingham resident

Georgia Gulas Sarris, 92, of Birmingham died Sept. 18, 2003. She was a member of Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Cathedral and served as an active volunteer for various church and community activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Sarris.

She is survived by three children, Philip J. (Demetra) Sarris, John J. (Catherine) Sarris and Lillian (Gus) Pelekis; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;one sister, Elizabeth Constantine; and many nieces and nephews.

Service was Sept. 23 at the church with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery, Ridout's Valley Chapel directing. The family requests memorials be made to Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Cathedral, 307 18th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35233.

JERRY NADINE SEXTON

Fairfield resident

Jerry Nadine Sexton, 66, of Fairfield died Sept. 17, 2003. She was retired from Fairfield High School after 30 years of service.

She is survived by her niece, Joy Birchfield of Alliance; her sister-in-law, Mary Baker Sexton of Hueytown; her nephews and nieces, David B. Sexton of Hueytown, Thomas Bruce Sexton of Bessemer, Mary Belinda Sexton of Hueytown and Marguerite Brenda Sexton of Hueytown; cousins, Abbie and George Andrew Willard; and also a host of friends and former students.

Graveside service was Sept. 20 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Brown Service West Chapel directing.

MADGE R. VICK

Wilsonville resident

Madge R. Vick, 88, of Wilsonville died Sept. 20, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born in 1915 in Childersburg.

She is survived by her children, Nora (Ed) Busby of Wilsonville, Margaret Wright of Westover, Carson (Jane) Vick of Calera, Raymond (Ann) Vick of Fayetteville and Lamar (Amanda) Vick of Wilsonville; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Odie Heaton and Ruth Wilson.

Service was Sept. 22 at Bolton Brown Chapel, the Rev. Joe Stone presiding. Burial followed in Wilsonville Cemetery, Bolton Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

JIM L. WILSON

Attorney

Jim L. Wilson, 61, of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Tifton, Ga., died Sept. 14, 2003, in Brownsville, Texas. He was a graduate of Tifton High School, a magna cum laude graduate of Valdosta State College and a graduate of Cumberland Law School in Birmingham, having earned a juris doctorate degree. He passed the Georgia Bar and practiced law in Tifton, Ga., for 15 years. He had lived in Brownsville, Texas, for three years.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Gardiner Wilson of Brownsville, Texas; one daughter, Kimberly Wilson (David) Baker of Alabaster; one brother, W. David (Norma) Wilson of Albany, Ga.; and one granddaughter, Kasey Baker of Alabaster.

Service was Sept. 18 at the Chapel of Albritton, Elder Lee Chambers and the Rev. Eddie Allen presiding. Burial was Oakridge Cemetery, Beaumont Funeral Directors directing. Pallbearers were Robbie Baker, Lee Clements, Bud Wilson, Ricky Ziegler, Randy Hill and Terry Ziegler. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Pittman, Glynn Whitley, J. Frank McGill, Melvin Mathis, Bobby Walker, Joe Tidd, Roy Jackson Sr. and Doug Jones.

WALTER JEROME BELL

Birmingham resident

Walter Jerome Bell Jr., 41, of Birmingham died Sept. 21, 2003. He was a former resident of Bronx, N.Y., and a graduate of Adalei Stevenson High School. He was employed by American Hostell International Corporation.

He is survived by his parents, Walter Bell Sr. and Louise Bell; his brother, Darion Bell; his sister, Loray (Raymond) Olan; and one son, Damien Bell.

Service was Sept. 27 at the Davenport-Harris Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd presiding. Burial followed in Dynasty Gardens, Westside Funeral Home in Calera directing.

ROY LEE "CURLY" HILL

Fisherman

Roy Lee "Curly" Hill, 56, of Maytown died Sept. 22, 2003. He was a lifetime member of the Showman's League of America, previously affiliated with Royal American Shows of Tampa, Fla. He was previously employed by Alabama Air and Hydraulics and presently employed by the Birmingham Race Course as the director of maintenance. He was a lifetime member of the Birmingham Bassmasters and mayor pro tem for Maytown.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Vines Hill; his daughter, Crystal (Nopee) Cook; his son, Roy Hill Jr.; his brother, Steely Hill of Dayton, Ohio; his sisters-in-law, Edna (Bob) Vealey, Emily (Ralph) Goolsby and Brenda (Jim) Fuller; four aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.

Service was Sept. 28 at Maytown Baptist Church, Brother John Killian presiding and Charter Funeral Home directing.

CLARA MAE HOLSOMBACK

Maylene resident

Clara Mae Holsomback, 83, of Maylene died Sept. 23, 2003, in Birmingham.

She is survived by three daughters, Joan Gregg of Dunnavant, Geneva Brasher of Childersburg and Linda Franklin of Irondale; one son, Jerry Holsomback of Maylene; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Service was Sept. 26 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo, the Rev. Manenon Brasher Jr. presiding. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Pea Ridge, Rockco's directing.
