Sarah Cathern Trebon

Mrs. Sarah Cathern Trebon, age 87, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center after a long illness.

She was born in Lindsey, Texas, November 27, 1920. She retired from De Queen General Hospital in 1982 as a nurse's aid. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in De Queen; she was the organizer of the Missionettes in the local church.

Mrs. Trebon was preceded in death by her parents, Ben String and Elizabeth Block Koelzer, and a sister, Virginia Eckstein.

She is survived by two brothers, Fidelis Koelzer of De Queen and Joseph Koelzer of Woodway, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Trebon will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2008 in the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Ray Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 30th at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Women Ministry at the First Assembly of God Church.

James Oliver Sobak

Mr. James Oliver Sobak, age 58, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana.

He was born to Melvin and Beatrice Mortonson Sobak at Devils Lake, North Dakota, on February 22, 1950. He was a manager of an oil pipe yard, and was a Baptist. He enjoyed truck driving, and watching TV.

James is preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Jarita Hendricks Sobak of Horatio, two sons, Shawn Ian Sobak and Doug Coggin both of Conroe, Texas, his mother, Beatrice Sobak of Edmore, North Dakota, one sister, Pat Sobak Frieje of Edmore, North Dakota, two grandsons, Nathan Sobak and Ryan Chapman and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. James Sobak will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31st in the Old Center Church, Horatio, Arkansas, with Bro. Tim Bowlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Eurby Abney Maynard

Eurby Abney Maynard, born June 13, 1914, in Ben Lomond, Arkansas, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana.
She was the oldest of six children born to Daisy and Oscar Abney. She and her husband, J.D., who preceded her in death, moved to Winthrop in the late 1930s, where they started, owned and operated oil and gas retail and wholesale businesses for over 30 years. For over 60 years she called Winthrop home. She was very independent and lived alone with the help of her family and friends. The family wishes to thank the many people who made sacrifices and contributions so that she could continue to live at home during her last years.
She is survived by her son, W. Neil Maynard and Marianne of Stuttgart; her five grandchildren, Dwain David Wilkinson and Patty of Aurora, Colorado, Eric Neil Maynard of Stuttgart, Sonja Wilkinson and Terry of Loveland, Colorado, Jason Maynard and Nicole of Dallas, and Alex Maynard and Natalie of Stuttgart, and her seven great-grandchildren. Her daughter Nelda Wilkinson preceded her in death. She is also survived by her step-son, James Raymond Maynard of Foreman, and her son-in-law, David Wilkinson of Foreman.
Funeral services are to be held at First United Methodist Church in Winthrop on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m with Rev. Fred Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravelly Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Winthrop, AR 71866.

John William Miller

Mr. John W. Miller, age 79, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in the Brookwood Nursing Center.

He was born to John and Lulu Knerr Miller on September 8, 1928 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He was an employee of Schmidt Construction, and attended the Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Dorothy Harter Miller of De Queen, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph Miller of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Terry and Lisa Miller of Lonoke, Oklahoma, four daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Evans of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Sherry Evans of Burlington, Iowa, Cindy and Donnie Bivins of Haworth, Okla.; and Tracy and Robin Morris of Wickes, Ark.; one sister, Pearl Dougherty of Winterset, Iowa, thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in the Smyrna Cemetery, De Queen, with Charles Foster Krudwig, minister officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Memorials may be made to the National Huntington’s Disease Association, 140 West 22nd Street, Sixth Floor, New York, New York 10011

Virginia Miller

Mrs. Virginia "Jennie" Irene Miller, affectionately called, Jenny, age 83, a resident of Nashville, and former resident of De Queen, died Friday, May 23, 2008 in the Howard County Memorial Hospital, Nashville, Ark.

She was born to Luther and Beulah Smith Treadway at De Queen, Arkansas, on November 19, 1924. She was a retired employee of the First National Bank, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Geneva Missionary Baptist Church of De Queen, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, and taking care of family, and was a devoted wife and mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lawrence Treadway, Daniel Martin, a sister, Emma Barr, a daughter, Linda Carrol Christie, and in 1997, her husband, Hubert Gene Miller.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Margie Christie of Nashville, Ark.; one granddaughter, Melissa Honeycutt of Shreveport, La., a grandson, Matt, and his wife Brittany Christie of Nashville, Ark.; two great-granddaughters, Landry Taylor, Brylee Honeycutt, a great-grandson, Lane Christie, and well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Jenny Miller will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 27th in the Mt. Ida Cemetery with Rev. Michael Bright officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. Visitation will be open. Memorials may be made to the Geneva Missionary Baptist Church, 188 Geneva Road, De Queen, Arkansas 71832

Russell O. Winton

Mr. Russell Oakley Winton, age 86, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, May 23, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Oakley and Gladys Culley Winton at Kerrick, Minnesota, on December 31, 1921. He was retired from the Arkansas Highway Department, and was a locksmith. He was a member of the Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church, and enjoyed working and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and in 2006, his wife of over 53 years, Betty Jean Winton.

He is survived by two daughters, Cathie Barrington and Dianne Campbell both of De Queen, Ark.; four grandchildren, Shelly and Timmy Boyles of De Queen, Anita, Chad, and Erica Barrington, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Russell Winton will be held at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27th in the Beacon Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Louise Whisenhunt

Louise Whisenhunt, age 61, a resident of Dierks, AR died Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Murfreesboro, AR.

She was born August 25, 1946 in Dierks, AR to Ellis Edward and Olene Stokes Efird. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God in Dierks.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Jerry Manasco of Umpire, AR; one son, Todd Linville of Dierks, AR; mother, Olene Stokes Efird of Dierks, AR; one brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Karen Efird of Umpire, AR and one grandson, Brady Manasco.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whisenhunt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. Henry Bateman officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Dierks funeral home.

Mr. Wayne Robert Goodin

Mr. Wayne Robert Goodin, a resident of Ashdown, AR died Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Ashdown, AR.

Mr. Goodin was born April 2, 1947 in Idabel, OK, to John and Iva Whitlock Goodin. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force having served in Vietnam and he was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Holmes Goodin; one daughter, Michelle Leigh Wright of Collinsville, IL; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Wayne and Angela Goodin of Broken Arrow, OK; two sisters, Delora Kirby of Odessa, TX and Glenda Dodd of Jinks, OK; four grandchildren, Brittany, Hunter, Lindsay and Sydney.

Mr. Coolidge Birge

Mr. Coolidge Birge, age 84, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, May 22 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to David Albert and Mary Ellen Stamps Birge at Gillham, Arkansas, on March 5, 1924. He was a retired educator, as well as an auto mechanic. He enjoyed antique cars, making violins and clocks, wood crafts, and especially story telling to children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Oliver and Stanley Birge, and an infant brother and sister.

He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Verba Lee Smith Birge of De Queen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dexter and Lynda Birge of Waxahachie, Texas, and Carroll and Joy Birge of Little Rock, Arkansas, one daughter, Jerri Lynn Birge of De Queen; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a brother, Byron Birge of Clinton, Missouri, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Coolidge Birge will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Sexton, Bro. George Frachiseur, and Bro. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 23rd.

Pauline Jones

Mrs. Pauline Jones, age 82, of Grannis, Arkansas passed away Monday, May 19, 2008 in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born December 27, 1925 in Grannis, Arkansas to the late Paul Burke and the late Viola Herring Burke. She worked for Lane Poultry and Renova Shirt Factory for many years. Mrs. Jones was a bookkeeper by profession and she was a loving

homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Survivors are: her husband: Otho Jones of Grannis, Arkansas; a Son: Calvin “Jack” Jones of Grannis, Arkansas ; a Daughter: Paula Daniels of Ashdown, Arkansas ; 4 Sisters: Jo Ann Milham of Mena, Arkansas Patsy Hagler of Berryville, Arkansas June Mitchell of Texarkana, Arkansas Nelda Richardson of Grannis, Arkansas 10 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren 2 Great Great Grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul Burke, Sr. and Viola Burke, her brothers, Paul Burke, Jr., and Gary Burke, her sisters, Floye Kennon and Billie Lloyd and her grandchildren: Angela Hall, Thomas Jones, Jr., and Mark Anthony Jones.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Overturf Cemetery in Gillham, Arkansas with Brother James Harris officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation with family and friends present will be Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Florence Slaton Zachry

Mrs. Florence Slaton Zachry, age 94, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas died Monday, May 19, 2008 in the Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas.

She was born August 21, 1913 in Lockesburg to George and Carlee Ray Slaton. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lockesburg First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Hester Zachry in 2005: and one son, Sammie Charles Zachry in 1939.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Billy and Cathy Zachry of Hughes Springs, Tx. and Benny Zachry of Thibodaux, La; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Dale Daugherty of Lewisville, Ar. and Betty and Kenneth Currence of Lockesburg, Ar. one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Alise Slaton of Lockesburg; seven grandchildren, Dennis and Douglas Currence of Lockesburg, Roger Daugherty of Hatfield, Ar. Jeff Daugherty of Fouke, Ar. Teresa Daugherty of Ashdown, Ar. Carrie Zachry Shaw of Longview, Tx. and Paula Zachry Walton of Daingerfield, Tx. 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zachry will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23,2008 in the First United Methodist Church in Lockesburg with Rev. Mike Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in the Kingree Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday. May22nd at the funeral home. The family will be at 279 Red Colony Road in Lockesburg.

Memorials may be made to Kingree Chapel Cemetery Fund.
