James N. Akers, Jr.

James N. Akers, Jr. of Banning, CA died Friday, February 25, 2011, in San Garonia Memorial Hospital in Banning, CA at the age of 69.

He was born in Harrison, AR September 26, 1941 to Morene and James Akers. He graduated from Harrison High School and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was associated with his Dad in business in Harrison for a number of years then moved to California where he was involved in the car business for the last 30-35 years. He was a Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Ann Akers Holt.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Jan and C.E. Hendrix of Horatio, Arkansas; brother-in-law, James Holt of Carlsbad, CA and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Mr. Akers will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Robert Shaddox officiating, under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel in Harrison, Arkansas.

Nora Mae Greenlee Favors

Mrs. Nora Mae Greenlee Favors, age 70, a resident of Grandview, Missouri. and former resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, March 9th at a Kansas City Missouri Hospital.

She was born to Jake Sr. and Earnestine Marie Rogers Greenlee at Lockesburg, Arkansas, on March 17, 1940.

She was retired from the Grandview Missouri Post Office. She was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church of Lockesburg and the N.A.A.C.P. She enjoyed her church, visiting, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, John Favors.

She is survived by a son, Clifford D. Favors of Grandview, Missouri, four brothers and sister-in-law, Jake Jr. and Sandra Greenlee of Lockesburg, Delmar Greenlee, Samuel and Maude Greenlee all of Chicago, Ill., Earnest and Celestine Greenlee of Lockesburg, Ark.; one sister, Alice Faye Mitchell of West Covina, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Nora favors will be held at 2:00p.pm., Saturday, March 19th in the New Zion Baptist Church with burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Lockesburg, Arkansas, under the direction of chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Chandler funeral Home on Friday, March 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Anita Joyce Moore Lamb
Mrs. Anita Joyce Moore Lamb, age 79, a resident of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Friday, March 11, 2011 in Little Rock.

She was born July 31, 1931 in Lockesburg, Arkansas. She received her Elementary Education Degree from North Texas State in Denton, Texas. She taught school for over 30 years, was a member of the Little Rock Retired Teachers Association, Parkway Place Baptist Church and was a longtime supporter of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Mrs. Lamb was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd T. Moore and Bonnie L. McClure Moore.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Lamb of Little Rock; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen Lamb (Margie) of Beebe, AR, Scott Lamb (Vivien) of Little Rock, AR and Stacey Lamb (Sandi) of Chattanooga, TN; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert Moore (Shirley) of Columbus, MS; one sister and brother-in-law, Gail Moore Dameron (Dick) of Lantana, TX; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 nephews, many special friends and her beloved canine companion, Jack.

A memorial service for Mrs. Lamb will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, AR.

Della Mae Irvan Young

Mrs. Della Mae Irvan Young, age 84, a resident of Horatio, died Monday, March 14, 2011 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born May 1, 1926 in Horatio. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Horatio.

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Eva Nora Chewning Irvan; her husband, Earl W. Young, Sr. on October 17, 1995 and 15 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Earl Young Jr. and Betty of Arlington, Texas, Rodney and Brenda Young of Little River Club, Arkansas and Jerry Wesley and Raylene Young of Horatio; one daughter, Tracy Lynn Young and Jerry Rogers of Horatio; two sisters, Sybil Young of Horatio and Evelyn Young of Turlock, California; 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Young will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church in Horatio with Rev. Phil Smith and Rev. Travis Langley officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 15th at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Horatio First United Methodist Church building fund.

Nora Mae Tadlock Frachiseur Liles

Nora Mae Tadlock Frachiseur Liles, age 67, a resident of Cove, Arkansas died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her home.

She was born June 4, 1943 in Valliant, Oklahoma. She was a retired USDA worker of twenty-six years. She loved fishing with her husband, gardening, reading and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister and was a member of the Center Grove Church in Linden, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ollie Tadlock; husband, John Wayne Liles that she was married to for twenty-six years; brothers and sisters, Charlie and Charles Tadlock, Elmer Tadlock, Velma Marks, Treva Story and Elvin Tadlock.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and James McCoy of Eagletown, OK, Janice and Terry Bagley of Grannis, Rhonda Crawford and Steve Hedrick of Vandervoort, AR, Katrina and Jimmy Sanders of Ward, AR; stepson, Rocky Liles of Linden, TX; stepdaughter, Debbie Liles of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Melvin Tadlock of Idabel, OK; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Liles will be held at 2:00 p.m., March 15, 2011 in the Corinth Cemetery in Linden, Texas with Rev. Homer Frachiseur, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, March 14th at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Ann Curtis Bergt

Elizabeth Ann Curtis Bergt, age 59, a resident of Texarkana, Texas died Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the Dubuis Hospital of Texarkana.

She was born December 17, 1951 in Ashdown, Arkansas. She formally worked for Poulan in Nashville and De Queen, at the present time she was a homemaker and was enjoying retirement. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Orville and Alliene Nettie Lewis Morgan; a daughter, Melissa Ann Curtis; and one sister, Pauline Frazier.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Bergt of Texarkana, TX; four sons, Mark Curtis and wife, Brandy of Grove, TX, Greg Curtis of Texarkana, TX, Michael Curtis also of Texarkana, TX and Chris Curtis and wife Crystal of Silsbee, TX; two step-children, Michelle Black and husband Radney of Bentonville, AR and Michael Bergt of Orlando, FL; two sisters, Betty Frazier and husband Charles of Silsbee, TX and Juanita Balagbagan and husband Victor of Haworth, OK; ten grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bergt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011 in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Larry Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the McHorse Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the funeral home.

Bart Edward “Scotty” McPherson

Mr. Bart Edward “Scotty” McPherson, age 89, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, March 10th in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to William Franklin and Dora Baker McPherson at Lockesburg, Arkansas on June 10, 1921. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. He was a retired Power Plant Engineer in Wichita, Kansas, after 30 years service. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, and enjoyed gardening, carpentry, and music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Hazel Marie Wilson McPherson, and a son, Bart McPherson, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Virgie Ward Downs McPherson of De Queen, a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Rimon and Carol McPherson of Killeen, Texas, two daughters and sons-in-law, Yolanda and Daylon Cranford of South Lake, Texas, and Deldee Marie and Dan Rey of Lake Tapps, Washington; a daughter-in-law, Kay McPherson of Wichita, Kansas; two stepsons, Phillip and his wife, Karen Downs, and Steven Downs all of De Queen, two step-daughters and their spouses, Deborah and Sid Stahlman, and Tammy and James Simmons all of De Queen; six grandchildren, Karen Game of England, Jason Rey of Wichita, Kansas, Melanie Rooney of Seattle, Wash., Ryan McPherson and Matthew McPherson both of Alaska, and Sarah Cranford of South Lake, Texas, three Great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Isaac, and Peter Game of England; eight step-grandchildren, Sherri Downs, Devin Downs, Megan Downs, Elizabeth Downs, Jason Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Staci Simmons and Jared Simmons, five step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Scotty McPherson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 13th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Sullivan and Rev. Byron Sullivan officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Holly Grove Cemetery, Grannis, Ark., under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Jessie C. “J.C.” Broach

Mr. Jessie C. “J.C.” Broach, age 85, of Mena, Arkansas, formerly of Cove, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

He was born September 3, 1925 in Washita, Arkansas to the late Jessie Thomas Broach and the late Marianna Stuart Broach. He was united in marriage to Faye Martin Broach on July 16, 1945 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He was a timber worker by profession and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather great-great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by:

Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Marianna Broach, his wife, Faye Broach, a son, Thomas Broach, a granddaughter, Loretta, and 2 grandsons, Eddie and Freddie.

Graveside services will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Westview Cemetery at Cove with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Chris Broach, Mike Broach, Matthew Broach, Tom Green, Jearl Wilkinson and Andy Miller.
