Herbert Mobley

Mr. Herbert Mobley, age 70, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, January 10th in the Brookwood Nursing and Rehab.

He was born to Theodore and Virginia Brooks Mobley on June 28, 1941 at Marked Tree, Arkansas, and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Theodore Mobley, Jr., Clarence Brooks, and Helen Mobley.

He is survived by a son, Nicholas Mobley of Chicago, Ill., Two daughters, Jacqueline Mobley of Cullen, La, and Tasha Mobley Welton of Los Angeles, Ca. Eight grandchildren, Demetre Mobley, Octavia Mobley, Teron Mobley, DeJuan Mobley, Taylor Symone Pitter, Harmony Alyse Welton, Nasir Mobley, and Nicholas Mobley, Jr., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Private Memorial Services will be at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Mr. Bethard "Curly" Lee

Mr. Bethard "Curly" Lee, age 79 of Gillham, AR died Monday, January 9, 2012 in the Oaks Health Care Center in Poteau, OK.

He was born to Ray Field and Dollie Stafford Lee in the Kellum Community of Sevier County, Arkansas on July 4, 1932. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser Company Dierks Mill. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints. He enjoyed cows, fishing, hunting and being outside.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Ray T. Lee and a sister: Pearlee Lee Loafield.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Wester Lee of Gillham, a son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Debbie Lee of De Queen; a daughter and son-in law, Belinda Sue and Charles Goodwin of Poteau, OK; a sister, Lorean Black of Gilmore, TX; nine grandchildren: Adam, Eric, Cody, Colt, Charleen, Christel, Kara, Heather and Breta; Fifteen great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Mr. Curly Lee will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel.

Robert Van Lee

Robert Van Lee, age 57, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Monday, January 9, 2012 in Mena, Arkansas.

He was born July 22, 1954 in Colorado City, Texas. He worked construction with high pressure boilers, was a U. S. Army veteran and a Baptist.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, George Henry “Lloyd” Caroll Lee, Sr. and Mary Kathryn Watkins Lee; a brother, George Lee; and a sister, Ruth Ellen Reynolds.

He is survived by two sons, Paul Van Lee of De Queen and Robert Van Lee, Jr. of California; one daughter, Angie Scott of Texarkana, Texas; three brothers, Raymond Lee of North Carolina, Joseph Cecil Reynolds, Jr. of Wisconsin and Curtis Reynolds of Horatio, Arkansas; four sisters, Lillie Turner of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Lee Ann “Frankie” Pellegrino of Mena, Arkansas, Shirley Morris of Dierks, Arkansas and Mary Russell of Benton, Arkansas; a half sister, Ruby Kelly of Valliant, Oklahoma; seven step-children, Richard Stover and Daniel Stover, both of Mena, Mandy Pressley of Texarkana, Texas, Scotty Pressley of Tennessee, Jennifer Ware of Van Alstyne, Texas, Shirley Ruth of De Queen and Shannan Wilson San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lee will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shane Haarmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Gillham Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the funeral home.

Max Edward “Mr. Max” Vail

Max Edward “Mr. Max” Vail, age 67, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Monday, January 9, 2012 in the Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born May 16, 1944 in Frankfort, Indiana. He was retired from the State of Nevada, Department of Corrections and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Mr. Vail was preceded in death by a son, Richard Vail; a daughter, Laura Stovall; and his step-father, James Hooker.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne Nothe Vail of Horatio; three daughters, Tara Potter of Ft. Drum, New York, Janet Leigh of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and Dawneva Apodaca of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, Max Vail II of Broken Bow; his mother, Evelyn Hooker of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; five sisters, Sandy Veach of Ft. Wayne, Jeannie Joiner of Plainfield, Indiana, Robin Hooker of Indianapolis, Indiana, Veronica Crider, also of Indianapolis, and Stella Hooker of Florida; two brothers, Jimmy Hooker of Danville, Indiana and Ronnie Hooker of South Carolina.

Funeral Services for Mr. Vail will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2012 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2012 at the funeral home.

C. W. Shepherd, Jr.

Mr. C. W. Shepherd, Jr., age 76, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, January 9th in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana.

He was born to Charlie Wesley, Sr. and Mamie Bailey Shepherd, at Dierks, Arkansas, on November 14, 1935. He was a retired employee of Lewis Food Store. He was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ and the Sevier County Cattlemen’s Association. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors, and friends, and spending time with his family, especially his great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Hugh Shepherd, a sister, Viola Hill, and a great-nephew, Jeremy Frachiseur.

He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Raymond Morris of De Queen, a brother-in-law, Lawrence Hill of Dierks, two nephews and their spouses, Charles and Paula Morris of Horatio, and Ronald and Kim Morris of De Queen, four nieces and their spouses, Linda and Randy Frachiseur of De Queen, Brenda and William Hill of Wilton, Arkansas, and Debbie and Justin Seymour of Horatio, and Marie and Mark Shirro of Mena, Arkansas, and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. C. W. Shepherd will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with James McRae, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunshine Cemetery, Dierks. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Ricky Alan Whisenhunt

Mr. Ricky Alan Whisenhunt, age 48, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 7th in the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hot Springs, Ark.

He was born to Billy J. and Donna Hazel Daems Whisenhunt at Brewster, Washington on April 28, 1963. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen, and was a truck driver.

Ricky was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Johnny Whisenhunt.

He is survived by his parents, Billy and Donna Whisenhunt of De Queen, a sister, Cheryl Ann Whisenhunt of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Elizabeth Louise Smith (Betty) Culp

Elizabeth Louise Smith (Betty) Culp, 76, a resident of De Queen, was born on February 25, 1935, in Winthrop, Ark., to Fred and Ruth Van Eman Smith. She departed this life on January 6, 2012, in Texarkana, Ark.

She is survived by five children, Liz Howell and husband Charlie of Searcy, Vicki Keener and husband Bob of Texarkana, Teresa Brewer of De Queen, James Culp of Texarkana, Lori Bristow and husband Jimmy of Redwater, Tex., and her brothers and a sister, Frederick Smith of Cross Roads, Nick Smith of Cross Roads, Curtis Smith and his wife Bessie Lee of Foreman, June Markwalter and her husband Charles of Hot Springs Village, and David Smith and wife Linda of Ashdown, eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dustin and Ginger Howell, and Drew and Audrey Chandler all of Searcy, Ark., Brooke Smith, Blaire and Kelly Harp all of De Queen, Matt and Amanda Brewer of Horatio, Mark and Lexie Brewer of Texarkana, Jayme Bristow and Jared Bristow both of Redwater, Texas, eight great-grandchildren, Hayden Harp, Laney Smith, Halle Harp, Griffin Chandler, Addison Chandler, McKenzie Smith, Hannah Howell, and Emmeline Howell and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was a faithful member of the De Queen Church of Christ where she taught the third grade class. She attended the University of Arkansas and was an avid Razorback fan. She devoted her early life to her children, then began working at age 50 and retired from Seal and Hodge Insurance Agency.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 8, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in De Queen. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, January 9, at 3 p.m. at the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with James McRae, officiating the service. Her family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time on Monday. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, Winthrop, Ark. Pallbearers are Dustin Howell, Drew Chandler, Matt Brewer, Mark Brewer, Jayme Bristow, Jared Bristow, Kelly Harp, and Hayden Harp.

Lisa Renae Lansdell Voss

Mrs. Lisa Renae Lansdell Voss, age 41, a resident of Foreman, Ark., died Wednesday, January 4th from injuries received in an automobile accident near Millwood Lake.

She was born to Truman and Judy Faye McCarra Lansdell at De Queen, Arkansas, on November 3, 1970. She was an associate with the Ashdown WalMart, as well as a homemaker. Lisa was a member of the Winthrop Baptist Church, and she enjoyed camping, working around the house, and spending time with her husband and sons.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. James Fields, and Mr. & Mrs. Guy Lansdell, a brother, Marty Glenn Lansdell, and a niece, Madison Lansdell.

She is survived by her husband of almost 19 years, Steve Voss of Foreman, two sons, Koby James Voss, and Kory Lane Voss both of Foreman, her parents, Truman and Judy Lansdell of Winthrop, a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Brandi Lansdell of Ashdown, Lisa is also survived by her husband’s family, her father and mother-in-law, Jasper and Lila Voss of Haworth, Okla,, her brother-in-law, James, and his wife, Tedda Voss of Haworth, Okla, her sisters-in-law, Lisa and her husband, Phillip Pruitt of Texarkana, Ark., Pam Voss, Joanna Voss both Haworth, Okla., and Mary and her husband, Dusty of Checotah, Okla., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lisa Voss will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7th in the Crossroads Baptist Church, Winthrop, AR, with Rev. Gary Stiener officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.

Raymond D. Leard

Raymond D. Leard, 97, passed away on January 4th surrounded by family.

He was born on July 7, 1914 in Gillham, Arkansas and spent most of his life there.
As an ordained minister, he served the Community of Christ Church for over 43 years and was a staple in the community.

Raymond was also a 32nd degree Mason, attending the Silver Hill Lodge #485 of Gillham for over 60 years. He was dedicated to his family, revered by many and an inspiration to those around him.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 72 years, Pauline Davis Leard, two daughters, Macaline Cunningham & her husband Charles of Kansas City, MO and Vada Hermon of Raymore, MO.

He also leaves behind three grandchildren Scott Cunningham of Kansas City, MO, Lisa Hering of Encampment Wyoming & Jeff Hermon of Raymore MO, along with five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, Arkansas on Sunday, January 8th at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Elder Richard Leach. Burial will follow in the Mineral Cemetery, Gillham, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Liberty Hospital Hospice, 2525 Glennhenren Drive, Liberty, Missouri 64068.
