Wanda Faye Fatherree

Mrs. Wanda Faye Fatherree, age 66, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at her home.

She was born November 22, 1946 in Heavener, Oklahoma. She was a former employee of Dierks Nursing Home and a member of the Newhope Freewill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Fatherree was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Lee and Jewel Lona Uzzel Walker and two grandchildren, Brendon Glasgow and Hayden Lemons.

She is survived by her husband, Aubrey Fatherree; three sons, Leonard Null, Avery Fatherree and Jasper Fatherree; three daughters, Michelle Shock, Shana Kesterson and Barbara Godwin all of Dierks; one brother, David Walker of Mt. Ida, AR; two sisters, Ginger Fatherree of Mineral Springs, AR and Shirley Gossage of Dierks; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mrs. Fatherree will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013 in the Newhope Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Vaughn officiating.

Scharlett Etoil Golden

Scharlett Etoil Golden, age 71, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, in the Dubuis Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born on August 3, 1941 in Alleene, Arkansas. She was a former employee of Nekoosa/Domtar where she was a paper maker and served on the beautification committee. She was a Boy Scout Den Leader, a Junior Achievement volunteer and a member of the Alleene Baptist Church.

Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her parents, Odie and Christine Blunt Walker; her husband, Bob Golden and one brother, Howard Walker.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Rebecca Champion of Atlanta, TX; two daughters and one son-in-law, Christy Champion of Bloomburg, TX and Cheryl and Glenn Johnson of Foreman, AR; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, DeWanda and Jimmy Rose of Alleene, AR, Lanier Pittman of DeKalb, TX and Joan and Roger Harrington of Winthrop, AR; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobie and Kathy Walker of Ashdown, AR and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Golden will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013, in the Alleene Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 22nd at the funeral home.

Mr. Ronald Smith Ward

Mr. Ronald Smith Ward, age 79, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 in De Queen Medical Center, De Queen.

He was born to Arnold C. and Thusa Smith Ward at Malone, New York on October 19, 1933. He was a retired mail carrier for the US. Postal Service in Fountain Valley, California. He was a Methodist, and enjoyed working on cars, traveling, and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Sherry Dawson Ward of De Queen, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald James and Sandra Ward of Garden Grove, Calif., and Danny Richard Ward of LaHabra, Calif., six grandchildren, Thomas Jeffery Ward of Sacramento, Calif, Spencer Dylan Ward of LaHarba, Calif, Nancy Grace Ward, of Utah, Amanda Jordan Ward of LaHabra, Calif, Dylan Ward and Haley Ward both of Garden Grove, Calif., one brother, Gary Richard Ward of Plattsburg, New York, and a number of nieces and nephews,

Memorial Services with military rites for Mr. Ron Ward will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21st in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, with Rev. David Williams officiating.

Mr. Virgie Bowers

Mr. Virgie Bowers, age 53, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, February 14th in the UAMS Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born to Virgil and Willie Bell Nelson Bowers at De Queen, Arkansas, on December 30, 1959. He was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church, and a former employee of Pilgrim’s Pride. He enjoyed his dogs, drawing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, O’Neal Bowers, and a sister, Helen Marie Bowers.

He is survived by his mother, Willie B. Bowers of De Queen, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Freddie Bowers of De Queen, and Tim and Vet Bowers of Colorado Springs, Col, three sisters And brother-in-law, Nora Rowe, Nada Bowers, and Joyce and Jesse Miller all of De Queen, and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family members.

Funeral Services for Mr. Bowers will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at New Zion Baptist Church, De Queen. Viewing will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the Church, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

David Lewis Jefferson, Sr.

David Lewis Jefferson, Sr., 84, of Smithville, passed away February 13, 2013 in Broken Bow.

He was born July 13, 1928 in Smithville, the son of Nicholas and Nellie Carterby Jefferson. David had lived in McCurtain County all of his life. He was a farmer and rancher and had retired from Tyson. He enjoyed fishing and horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee Jefferson and Raphael Jefferson; daughter, Lisa Jefferson and a grandson, William Derek Bakenhus.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Melitta Robinson of De Queen, Arkansas, David Jefferson, Jr. of Keller, Texas, Gaythy Bakenhus of De Queen, Arkansas, Lyndon Jefferson of Gilmer, Texas, Reba Eubanks of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, Phillip Jefferson of De Queen, Arkansas, Edison Jefferson of Palistine, Texas, Tillis Johnson of Wister, Oklahoma, Bo Grantz of Waldron, Arkansas, Amber Alanez of New Mexico and Madison Jefferson of San Diego, California and Marvin Jefferson of De Queen, Arkansas; sisters, Rhoda Sullivan and Minnie Edwards both of Smithville and Minnie Faye Barnes of Warsaw, Missouri; 25 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 2pm at Nani Chito Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Johnson officiating and Bro. Keith Hammrick assisting. Arrangements are with Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home of Broken Bow.

Linda S. Davis

Linda S. Davis, age 64, of Umpire, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013.

She was born on April 10, 1948, at Nashville, the daughter of Grady Morris and Sibyl Wakley Morris. On June 24, 1966, she was married to Johnny Ray Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Morris.

She was a member of the Umpire Free Holiness Church, which she dearly loved and was always a faithful and dedicated worker for her church. She enjoyed cooking for her family, farming, reading, listening to southern gospel music and taking care of her loving dog "Cupcake". Anyone that knew Linda, knew her two precious granddaughters, Breanna and Aubrey, were truly the light of her life. She was affectionately called "Nan"; had a beautiful smile; and always put others first. There are three words that completely describes Linda, "she loved unconditionally". She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Ray Davis of Umpire; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Duane Crawford of Umpire; two granddaughters, Breanna Crawford and Aubrey Crawford; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Haynes and Jodi Morris of Bella Vista, Warren and Robin Morris of Soldotna, Alaska and Butch and Olena Morris of Umpire; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Helen and Richard Todd of Little Rock, Gayla and Donnie Williamson of Tanner Williams, Alabama, Maxine and Garland Tallant of Horatio and Judy Seals of Prairie Grove; her very special mother-in-law, Bonnie Davis of Umpire; her special sister-in-law, Debby Boswell and her husband, Paul, of Umpire; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Umpire Free Holiness Church with Bro. Donnie Vaughn, Bro. Donnie Williamson, Bro. Dale Crawford and Bro. Olin Vaughn officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery in Umpire under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be Brad Morris, Korey Morris, David Todd, Ben Seals, Blake Yandell and Madison Yandell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Fuller, Curtis Jones, Terry Lambert, Ronald Morris, Chris Collie, Mark Berry and Brian Morris.

Bonnie Jean Brown

Bonnie Jean Brown, 81, of Little Rock, Arkansas went to her long awaited heavenly home on Sunday, February 10, 2013. She was born on March 22, 1931 in Provo, Arkansas to the late Virgil and Arlie Jones. She married Roy Edward Brown on June 26, 1948 and shared 54 years together until his death in 2002. She was a long time member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and then of Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock where she worked in the nursery lovingly caring for “her” babies.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Larry and Sue Brown of Little Rock; Dan and Bev Brown of Benton; and Tom and Tammy Brown of Hot Springs. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Haley and Marcus Willard of San Antonio, Texas; Beth and Jeff Layton of Conway, Arkansas; Jeremy Brown of Bryant, Arkansas; Jennifer and Richard Carlton of Bryant, Arkansas; Stephan and Rachel Brown of Conway, Arkansas; Melissa and Russell Ellis of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Chris and Sarah Brown of Cabot, Arkansas, and Jonathan and Katie Brown of Benton, Arkansas. Additionally, she is survived by her most recent babies – her 18 great grandchildren – Kacy, Abby, Maddie, Noah, Hannah, Katie, Carson, William, Gracie, Kinley, Lexi, Faith, Emma, Austin, Abbie, Rex, Carlon, and Jeslyn.

Other family includes one brother, Ed and Virginia Jones, and one sister, Susie Davidson, all of Little Rock. Also included are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She worked alongside Brownie and outside the home as necessary to provide for her family which she loved so dearly. She loved and cherished time together with family and treasured the memories made.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Roller Drummond, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 (501) 455-5800.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m., February 14, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church with Bro. Tom Brown and Bro. Jerry Kidd officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family requests memorials be made to the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1534 Shady Grove Road, Hot Springs, AR 71901.

Leon Ernest Goss

Mr. Leon Ernest Goss, age 85, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Lewis Ernest and Eletha Ralls Goss at Athens, Arkansas, on February 7, 1928. Mr. Goss was retired principal of the Vandervoort Elementary School, and attended the First United Methodist Church in Gillham. He was a member of the Red Red Rose Fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Ovay Goss, Vernita Manasco, Edwina Floyd, and Geneva Smith, and a son, Danny Leon Goss, who died in Vietnam in 1970.

He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Norma Ruth Carter Goss of De Queen, a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Elaine and Don Bradley of De Queen, three grandchildren and their spouses, Todd Earney of De Queen, Chad and Chayla Earney of De Queen, and Christin and Adam Lites of Horatio, four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Cole Earney, Blake and Fath Lites, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Leon Goss will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Wintherspoon Cemetery, Vandervoort, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Thursday, February 14th from 5:00 to 7:00P.M.

James Edwin “Cowboy” Pettigrew

Mr. James Edwin “Cowboy” Pettigrew, age 75, a resident of Horatio, died Sunday, February 10th in the Arkansas Nursing & Rehab in Texarkana, AR.

He was born to Earl Walter, Sr and Lizzie Stinnett Pettigrew at Horatio, Arkansas, on March 31, 1937. He served in the military with the U. S. Army, and was retired from Georgia Pacific in Ashdown. He was a member of the Horatio Assembly of God, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and yard sales.

Cowboy was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Irene Pettigrew, Jewell Pettigrew, Luther Pettigrew, Marie Morro, and Elsie VanMeter.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Renee Pettigrew of Ashdown, five step children, Nathan Irvan of Ashdown, Jeff Irvan and Vicki Bodine both of Horatio, Karen Mantalvo of Palestine, Texas, and Nita Irvan of Gillham, two brothers, Earl Pettigrew, Jr.of De Queen, Dorvin Pettigrew of Yuma, Arizona, two sisters, Ima Jean Brooks of San Diego, Calif, and Leona Hanson of Davis, Colorado, four grandchildren, Paige Keiss of Watson, Okla, Kayla Pettigrew and Eric Pettigrew both of Horatio, and Josiah Pettigrew of Ashdown, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Cowboy Pettigrew will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 13th in the Old Center Cemetery with Bro. Ralph Staggs officiating. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 12th
