Robert L. Drake
METAIRIE, La. -- Robert L. Drake Sr., 75, of Metairie died Feb. 1, 2003 at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1927 in St. Joseph, Mo., son of the late Albert L. and Mary Helen Speaker Drake. He was a restaurant manager and a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include: HIs wife, Fran Drake; two sons, Tim Drake of Spring City, Utah, and Robert L. Drake Jr. of Holden, La.; two daughters, Tammy Donavon and Debbie Drake of Metairie; two sisters, Margaret Jean Ford and Katherine Reynolds of St. Joseph, Mo.; and 17 grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Round Hill Church near Joan with Robert Drake Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Round Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Round Hill Cemetery Association.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Henry C. Scott
ARKADELPHIA -- Henry C. Scott, 92, of Arkadelphia died Feb. 6, 2003 at Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. He was born Feb. 14, 1910 in Arkadelphia, son of the late Will and Mattie Booker Scott. He was a retired railroad employee and a member of First Baptist Church at Rockport where he served as a deacon. He was the widower of Joe Willie Scott.

Survivors include: A stepson, Elwood Newborn of Arkadelphia; a brother, Adolphus Scott of Little Rock; a sister, Annie Hill of Arkadelphia; and six step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Lewis Shepherd officating and Rev. J.N. McCollum, eulogist. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Henry G. Lea
FRIENDSHIP -- Henry Garland Lea, 79, of Friendship passed away June 15, 2003. He was born Sept. 3, 1923 to Edd and Liller Kate Garner Lea of Sparkman. He was a graduate of Sparkman High School, owner and operator of Lea's Grocery and Station in Manning for 13 years, and in Friendship for 15 years, and a liftime cattleman. He was a member and past song director of Manning Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Raybourn, O.D., Doyle and Lester Lea, and one sister, Emma Deaton.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jewel Deane Scott, whom he married May 10, 1946; one daughter, Ruth Clayton and her husband, Dwight, of Fordyce; two sons, Ed Lea and his wife, Mona, of Conway and Jackie Lea and his wife, LaVonda, of Arkadelphia; one brother, Calvin Lea and his wife, Dovie, of Taylor; three sisters, Mattie Shirron and her husband, Melvin, of Camden, Betty Shirron of Milpitas, Calif., and Mary Robbins and her husband, Bill, of Malvern; two sisters-in-law, Myrtice Lea of Manning and Edna Bane of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Todd Clayton, Tammy Wills, Shay Gerrittsen, Whitney Moreland, Dustin, Tanner and Landon Lea; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia with Bro. Jerry George, Bro. John Clements and Bro. Doug Wells officiating. Burial will be in Sparkman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews.

The family will be at home, 3005 Malvern Road, Friendship.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cay B. McNabb
GLENDALE, Ore. -- Cay B. McNabb, 66, of Glendale, Ore., died May 22, 2003. He was born Aug. 24, 1936 at okolona, son of Elenas Houston and the late Acey McNabb. He was a logger.

Survivors include: His wife, Anna Jo McNabb; three sons, David McNabb of Marlin, Ore., Micheal McNabb of Dallas, Texas, and Benjamin McNabb of Center Point, Ore.; one daughter, Betsy Byland of Eugene, Ore.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.; his mother, Elenas Houston of Okolona; three brothers, Acey McNabb of Amity, Joe McNabb of Arkadelphia and Jimmy McNabb of Gurdon; and five sisters, Anna Rutherford of Okolona, Margie Prince of Prescott, Barbara Hurbard of Okolona, Alice Merchant of Cleveland, Texas, and Emma Hill of Prescott.

There was no funeral service; the body was cremated.

Clarence L. Kight
SPARKMAN -- Clarence Lee "Buddy" Kight, 76, of Sparkman died June 16, 2003 at his home. He was born Oct. 18, 1926 in Dallas County, the son of the late Monroe J. and Rena Lou Catlett Kight. He was a retired employee of Gibbs Brothers Cooperage and Ormet Aluminum Co. in Ohio. He attended Manning Baptist Church, was a World War II Army veteran, a former musician and a member of two hunting clubs. He was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Wayne Kight.

Surviors include: His wife, Marjorie Laverne Tedder Kight; two daughters, Beverly Hawthorn of Manning and Janice Matthews of Sparkman; two brothers, Leonard Kight of Hot Springs and J.E. Kight of Donaldson; four sisters, Evelyn Vaughn, Clarice Green and Jane Brooks of Hot Springs and Betty Speer of Manning; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry George and Rev. Billy Reed officiating. Burial will be in DeLamar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim, Jared and Justin Hawthorn, Kord DeWello, Dale Kight and Stan Nottenkamper. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay and James Gibbs.

Memorials may be made to Manning Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joy S. Adams
ARKADELPHIA -- Joy Ella Taylor Salisbury Adams died of complications from cancer and pneumonia on Monday, June 16, 2003. Mother was proud of the fact that she had outlived most of her family. She would have been 83 years old Sunday, June 22, 2003.

She was born in 1920 to Russell Dudley Taylor and Olive Gertrude Nunnelley in Cass County, Mo. She had an older brother named Simon Dudley Taylor. She met and married Thomas Alvin Salisbury in Harrisonville, Mo., on Nov. 11, 1939. To this union, two daughters were born: Karen Sue, Sept. 12, 1941 and Rosilyn Marie, Aug. 13, 1944.

We moved to Belton, Mo., in the early 1950s, and grandfather Alexander Smith Salisbury came to live with us until his death. So mother had several jobs, housewife, mother, etc. before she went to work as a seamstress at Grace Co. and Nellie Don Co. She became a member of Belton Baptist Church and a past Matron of Eastern Star.

When we girls grew up and married and started raising our families, Joy and Tom moved from Belton to Gurdon, Ark., in the mid 1960s. Daddy worked as a mechanic and Mama as a seamstress at Hollywood Vassarette and moved to Arkadelphia about 1968. Daddy Tom died of cancer in January 1971. Mama Joy met and married John Allen Adams Sept. 11, 1971. She was working as a home health nurse. Paw owned Adams Book Store until his death.

John Allen was born Aug. 16, 1919 and died Feb. 28, 1984. Joy inherited and ran the Adams Book Store until she entered the hospital two weeks ago. She was a member of Third Street Baptist Church, past Matron and was serving as Esther in Eastern Star of Arkadelphia #378. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister-in-law, Aula Salisbury Taylor, and one son-in-law, Kenneth James Middleton. Mama Joy was gruff and hard headed, but she had a heart of gold and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include oldest daughter, Karen Sue Salisbury Middleton and son-in-law, Andrew M. Halko Jr., granddaughter, Jeannine Kay Middleton Teague, grandson, Jeral Lee Teague Sr. and great-grandson Jeral Lee Teague Jr., Bentonville; great-granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Teague, Daisey Hope Halko and Emily Rose Halko all of Natchitoches, La.; daughter, Rosilyn Marie Salisbury Simons, son-in-law, Richard T. Simons, granddaughter, Julie Ann Simons, great-granddaughter, Amber Marie Simons O'Neill, grandson, Scott Alexander Simons, wife Kim Ortiz, great-grandson, Daniel Joseph Simons and great-granddaughter, Trisha Ortiz all of Tucson, Ariz.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003 at Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel with Rev. James Guthrie officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Doris W. Phelan
MALVERN -- Doris Wright Phelan, 82, of Malvern died June 17, 2003 at her home. She was born Dec. 17, 1920 at Malvern, daughter of the late Samuel Estes Wright and the late Erma O. Warford Wright. She was a retired hairdresser and of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Thomas Harold Phelan.

Survivors include: A sister, Otha Yates of Malvern; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Atkinson Funeral Home at Malvern with Rev. Ricky Poyner and Rev. Neil Phelan Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Jackson, Harold Dabbs, Larry Guin, Dick Phelan, Andy Guin and Freddy Anderson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until time for the service.

Geraldine M. Elder
MALVERN -- Geraldine Miller Elder, 83, of Malvern died July 9, 2003 at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1919 in Arkadelphia, daughter of the late Carl and Beatrice Helms Miller. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and had been active in the Junior Service League and the Malvern Garden Club. She was the widow of Harold W. Elder.

Survivors include: Two children, Harold Elder of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Jeanne Elder Johnson of Lake Junaluska, N.C.; a brother, Glenn Miller of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Malvern with Rev. Roy P. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery under the direction of J.A. Funk Funeral Home of Malvern.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patrick H. Booker
HOT SPRINGS -- Patrick Henry Booker III, 21, of Hot Springs died July 3, 2003.

Survivors include: A son, Aaron Patrick Booker of Marilyn, Va.; parents Patrick and Joyce Booker of Hot Springs; a brother, Dondy Bernard Booker of Hot Springs; sister, Jena Patrice Booker of Hot Springs; grandparents, Johnnie Booker of Hot Springs, Patrick H. Booker Sr. of Dallas, Texas, Alvin Jones of Chicago, Ill., and Elnora white of Compton, Calif; and great-grandparents, Clayborn Booker of Arkadelphia and Magdalene Spencer of North Little Rock.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Visitors Chapel AME Church with Dr. James Thomas and Rev. Patrick H. Booker Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Brandon's Mortuary.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Visitors Chapel AME Church of Hot Springs.

Douglas M. Brumley
BEIRNE -- Douglas Matthew Brumley, infant son of Douglas and Sherry Brumley of Beirne, died July 9, 2003.

Other survivors are: Grandparents, Delbert and Lena Brumley and David and Linda Welch; and aunts and uncles.

A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Brown Cemetery near Beirne. Burial is under the direction of Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.

Jather Seawood
KILLEEN, Texas -- Sgt. 1st Class (Ret.) Jason Seawood, 77, died Aug. 5, 2003. He was born Nov. 3, 1925 in Arkadelphia, where he was reared and educated. He was retired from the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietname War. He was a former employee of the City of Killeen, a member of New Light Lodge 242, Central Texas Consistory, Order of the Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: His wife, Birdie Seawood of Killeen; a son, Jony Dewarner Lee Seawood of Killeen; a daughter, Michelle Seawood Bailey of Killeen; a brother Ocie T. Seawood of Copperas Cove, texas; four sisters, Mary Jane Newburn of Arkadelphia, Lula Dell Newburn of Little Rock, and Odessa Patterson and Dorothy Draine of Chicago, Ill.; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church of Killeen with Rev. J.A. Moland officiating. Burial will be in Killeen Memorial Park under the direction of Crawford Bowers Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes. Foundation.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert L. Anderson
LONGVIEW, Texas -- Robert Lamont Anderson, 74, of Longview, Texas, died Sept. 28, 2003. He was born in Arkadelphia, son of the late John W. and Grace Lamont Anderson. He finished high school in Arkadelphia. He was an Army veteran, and received an MBA from North Texas University. He was a former employee of Caterpillar Tractor Co., and Southern Union Gas Co. He was a member of the Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and a member First United Methodist Church of Longview.

Survivors include: His wife, Margaret Anderson; three children, Robert Anderson Jr. of Austin, Texas, and Laurie Hemming and Alice Butler of Dallas, Texas; three stepchildren, Margaret Clay Spears of Greenback, Tenn., Byron Harrison Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jan A. Harrison of Hariman, Tenn.; two brothers, John W. Anderson of Russellville and Albert Anderson of Greeley, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Welch Funeral and Memorial Center chapel with Dr. Dan Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
