Virginia Taylor
Virginia D. Taylor, 78, of Van Buren died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Romance. She was a retired merchandise buyer and manager for Hunt’s Department Store, Boston Store and Casual Corner. She was a member and past president of Alpha Beta Chapter and past city council president Beta Sigma Pi and charter member Romance Arkansas Eastern Star. She had been active in numerous charity activities. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Romance cemetery in Romance under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Kermit; a daughter, Rebecca Freeman of Fort Smith; two sons, Rick Taylor of Lavaca and Kendall Taylor of Berkeley, Calif.; two sisters, Mabel Henry of North Little Rock and Peggy Harlan of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Emma Reames, Joe Butler, Douglas Stroud, Gary Williams, Johnnie Lowrey, Gene Angel, Pauline Harrison and Susie Coffey.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joseph Wright Jr.
CHARLESTON — Joseph Lee Wright Jr., 27, of Charleston died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003. He was born Dec. 26, 1975, in Fort Smith. He was self-employed and a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Pine Log cemetery in Washburn.
He is survived by a son, Preston Wright of Fort Smith; his mother, Beverly Appleton of Charleston; his father, Joseph Wright Sr. of Hawkins, Texas; two sisters, Shelly Peek of Charleston and Sarah Wright of Hawkins, Texas; two brothers, Coye and Jacob Wright, both of Hawkins, Texas; and his maternal grandmother, Audine Davis of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Chris and Jimmy Nelms, Marky Davis, Jaime Horton, Paris Wilhelm, Matthew and Tony Bailey Jr. and Tommy Wright.
The body may be viewed beginning at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Irene Stevens
Irene W. Stevens, 86, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Branch. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, and a former saleslady for J.C. Penneys.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Nixon cemetery in Charleston.
She is survived by her husband, Huey; a sister, Margaret Chastian of Fort Smith; and a brother, Robert Wells of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4100 Grand Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Martine Bercher
Martine B. Bercher, 88, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was the owner of Bercher Ceramics in Fort Smith, was a Navy veteran, a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, past president of Kiwanis Club, past third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus, and a graduate of St. Boniface Catholic School in 1929. He was the widower of Elizabeth Bercher.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Bettye Franz and Jean Roddy, both of Fort Smith; a son, Martine Bercher Jr. of Fort Smith; two brothers, Eugene and Robert Bercher, both of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 11 stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Patrick, Tim and Kevin Franz, Bryan Roddy, Jon and Christopher Bercher and Marshal Brooks.

Lester Montgomery
Lester Montgomery, 93, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church for 45 years and had been a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church since 1990. He was a retired farmer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Montgomery of the home; a daughter, Ruby Harris of Van Buren; one grandson, Steve Cross of Van Buren; and one great-grandson, Chris Cross of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be deacons of the Van Buren First Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Van Buren First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1121 E. Main St., Van Buren, AR 72956.

Willie Gertrude Tippit
Willie Gertrude Tippit, 78, of Waveland died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, in a Booneville hospital. She was of the Baptist faith and a former resident of Uniontown and Van Buren. She had been a resident and a grocery store owner of Waveland for the past 35 years.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorella Havard of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Wanda Hultquist of Rineyville, Ky.; three sons, William Fincher of Van Buren and Joe and Dan Fincher, both of Havana; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark, Jason and Jody Fincher, Gene Havert, Carroll Adair and Tunis Vanderschartz.
The family will visit with friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Ocker Memorial Chapel, 700 Jefferson in Van Buren.

Wyndal Martin Goodman
Wyndal Martin Goodman, 49, formerly of Fort Smith, the beloved son of Dr. R.C. and Dorothy Goodman, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born Feb. 18, 1954, in McKinney, Texas. Wyndal grew up in Fort Smith and graduated from Northside High School in 1972. He attended the University of Arkansas, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in geology and a master’s in hydrology.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Karen of the home in Bixby, Okla.; a daughter, Mellisa and her husband, Jason Conrad; and a granddaughter, Callie Kaitlyn. He is also survived by four brothers, Dr. R. Cole Goodman Jr. of Fort Smith, Joe Goodman and his wife, Lee Ann of Corinth, Miss., Charles Goodman and his wife, Cassie of Russellville, and Dr. Robin Goodman and his wife, Mona of Russellville; and eight nephews and three nieces.
A loving, caring man to family and friends. Wyndal fought a very courageous three-year battle with renal cell cancer. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with cremains to be interned in the Columbarium at First United Methodist Church under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Oma Threadgill
Oma Threadgill, 93, of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a retired assembly line worker for Whirlpool, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.J. “Buster” Threadgill, a daughter, Mildred Yusko and a grandson, Donald Meadors.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Roselawn cemetery under the of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by six daughters, Wanda Meadors of Roland, Dolly Moron of Harlingen, Texas, Louise Zachary of Roland, Betty Sorah of Cambridge City, Ind., Mary Bryant and Margaret Threadgill, both of Fort Smith; two sons, Bill Threadgill and Joe Threadgill, both of Alma; a sister, Elaine Busby of Port Arthur, Texas; two brothers, Harvey Staton of Council Hill, Okla. and Claude Staton of Dewey, Okla.; 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will the today, Christmas Day, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at Edwards Funeral Home.

Richard Rogoff
Richard Rogoff, 68, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witness.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Rogoff of the home; a daughter, Anne Anderson and her husband, James of Chebanse, Ill.; three sons, Robert Rogoff Sr. of Fayetteville, David Rogoff of Van Buren, and Jeffery Rogoff of Seattle; a sister, Lois Greenberg of Waterford, Conn.; a brother, Joel Rogoff of New London, Conn.; five grandchildren; Paul Parr of Fort Smith, Samantha Rogoff of Bella Vista, Robert Rogoff Jr. of Bella Vista, Margaret Rogoff of Van Buren and Justin Rogoff of Arkoma; and one great-grandchild, Paul Parr Jr. of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Titsworth, Eugene Titsworth Jr., Ron Davis, Ken McIntosh and Brent Painter and Scott Painter.

Edna White
BARLING — Edna B. White, 68, of Barling died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was a retired administrative assistant for Civil Service Department of the Army at Fort Chaffee. She was a member of the Retiree Council for Fort Chaffee.
The body will be cremated. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. June 19 in Post Chapel Building No. 1481 Fort Chaffee Maneuver, with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a niece, Jeanette Settles of Martinsville, Ind.; and several other nieces and friends.

Annas Harp
TAMPA, Fla. — Annas Harp, 85, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Keota, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Tampa, Fla. She was a second-grade teacher in Keota for many years and also taught in Centerpoint, Kanima and Brooken Mountain. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Keota.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Keota with burial at Iron Bridge cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Keota.
She is survived by a son, Dale Harp-Lutz, of Florida; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Rev. Billy Williams
OZARK — The Rev. Billy D. Williams, 58, of Ozark died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in his home. He was born Dec. 13, 1942, in Biscoe. He was a retired Pentecostal minister of several churches in the area.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie; three daughters, Robin Archer of Cabot, Gwen English of Altus and Hope Van Lauvan of Clarksville; a stepdaughter, Terri Pullen of Ozark; two stepsons, David and Jonathan Pullen, both of Ozark; his mother, Joyce Marie Williams of Ozark; two sisters, Brenda Huntsinger of Ozark and Linda Flores of Waldron; a brother, Nick Williams of Ozark; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the Revs. Joe Lancaster, Jim McElhaney, Lonnie Sheppard, Carl Sory, Larry Willis and Billy Paul Roberts.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jean Cochran
POCOLA — Jean A. Reeves Cochran, 71, of Pocola died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in Pocola. She was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Chicago. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the widow of Clifford Cochran.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today in Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Pocola with burial at Fairhill (Knothole) cemetery in Cameron.
She is survived by two sons, David Andrew Cochran of Pocola and Fred Earl Cochran of Miami, Okla.; a brother, Robert Lee Caughron of Cameron; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charles Curtis
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Charles “Slim” Everett Curtis, 68, of Blue Springs, Mo., formerly of Panama, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in his home. He was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Panama. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Army Medical Services, Army Medical Detachment 120th Engineer Combat Battalion, 45th Infantry Division. During his tour he received a Bronze Star. He was retired from General Motors Fairfax Plant and was a member of the UAW Local No. 31, and the American Legion Post No. 499 in Blue Springs.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Fairview cemetery in Panama under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his companion, Mary Van Fleet; a son, Gary Curtis of Blue Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Patsy Magri of Las Vegas and Jania Riccardi of Mohave Valley, Ariz.; two brothers, Mark Curtis of Wagoner, Okla., and Conny Curtis of Oklahoma City; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post No. 499 in Blue Springs, Mo., or hospice.

Lindsey Irvin
Lindsey Irvin, infant daughter of Randy and Flora Irvin of Van Buren, died Friday, June 8, 2001, in a local hospital.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Dripping Springs cemetery near Uniontown.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Miranda Irvin of the home; a brother, Randall Irvin of the home; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Melba Spoon of Cedarville; and paternal grandfather, James Henry Irvin of Uniontown.
