ROLAND — Lee J. Rhoads, 82, of Roland died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, in Roland. He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Gans. He was retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and was a construction worker, a rancher, a Sequoyah County employee and a member of Gans Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gans Assembly of God with burial at Gans cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow.
He is survived by his wife, Erdie; two daughters, Lela Barnes of Gans and Patty Sudmeyer of Hot Springs; four sons, David Rhoads of Alma, Terry and Mike Rhoads, both of Gans, and Steve Rhoads of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Ruth Henry of Sallisaw; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Todd, Wes, Kyle, Greg, Jody and Chad.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

John Parr
John E. Parr, 85, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004. He was retired from Harding Glass Co. after 38 years of service. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW and Ellig Stouffer American Legion Post No. 31.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Kathy Moss of Fort Smith; a son, Don Parr of Van Buren; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robert Jones, Eddie Smith, Mike Swaim, Dean Polk and Ronnie and Ricky Ruth.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Laura Moomey
Laura Pal Moomey, 96, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004. She was born Feb. 12, 1907, in Batesville. She attended Shinns Business College in Oklahoma City after regular schooling. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, served for 13 years as president of the Women’s Auxiliary, established a library, sang in the choir and led the funeral dinners service for years. She helped organize the Crisis Center for Women at the YWCA and worked there several years. In earlier years she kept books for McCord Wholesale Grocery Co. and Levines General Store. She served at Fort Chaffee during the Vietnamese settlement. She was the widow of Joe Moomey.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Graham, Gary and Quince O’Kelley, Ron Wilcox, Ken Woodall, Rod Ray and Calvin Rainwater.
Ernest Sheppard Sr.
OZARK — Ernest Sheppard Sr., 90, of Ozark died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in an Ozark nursing home. He was a retired truck driver, a Pentecostal and a member of the Old Country Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Belt cemetery north of Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Lue Ammie Sheppard of Ozark; two daughters, Wilma Drain and Wanda Ellison, both of Ozark; two sons, Ernest “Junior” Sheppard and the Rev. J.D. Sheppard, both of Ozark; a sister, Ruby Hyde of Denning; a brother, Harvey Sheppard of Gentry; 17 grandchildren. 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony and Danny Sheppard, Tim Drain, Donnie Ellison, Dewayne George and Johnny Drain.

Eva Cherry
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Eva O’Bryan Cherry, 94, of San Antonio, formerly of Dallas and formerly of Fort Smith, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003. She was born Jan. 2, 1909, in Fort Smith. She was retired from the auditing department at Sear, Roebuck & Co. after many years of service. In Fort Smith, she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she taught a children’s Sunday school class. In Dallas, she was a member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church until 1968, when she and her family moved to San Antonio. In San Antonio, she was a member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church, the Joy Sunday school class and Cockrell Hill Flora Chapter 794 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Joseph Dow Cherry.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Laurel Land cemetery in Dallas under the direction of Mission Park Funeral Chapels North of San Antonio. Eastern Star service will be under the auspices of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 794.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Hood of San Antonio; a brother, J.W. O’Bryan of Borshor, Kan.; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Electa Schmiser
Electa Rachael Schmiser, 82, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Ewing, Neb. She was a retired farmer and rancher.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence; four children, Coralee Brehmer of Fort Smith, Marcene Wright of Ewing, Neb., Debra Walnofer of Charleston and Michael J. Schmiser of Fort Smith; one sister, Vaulda Welke of Ewing, Neb.; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

MULDROW — Lew W. English, 70, of Muldrow died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in Muldrow. She was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Muldrow. She retired as a rural mail carrier for the post office in Muldrow after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Assembly of God and the Ladies Auxiliary at Muldrow VFW Post 8384.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God in Muldrow with burial at Liberty cemetery in Roland under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow.
She is survived by her husband, Homer; a daughter, Donna Hoover of Muldrow; a son, Billy English of Muldrow; five brothers, Fred Stamps of Stover, Mo., Ted Stamps of Muldrow, Herman Stamps of Van Buren, Donald Ray Stamps of Muldrow and Tommy Stamps of Round Rock, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry Dyer, Jim and Rick Russell, Mickey and Tim Stamps, Ronnie Vest, Billy Mabry and Edwin Ogdon.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.

HUNT — Mary Pearl Huff, 93, of Hunt died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in an area hospital. She was born July 2, 1910, in Coal Hill. She graduated in the first graduating class at Hartman High School and was a member of Coal Hill Methodist Church and Home Extension Club. She was the widow of Eugene P. Huff.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Coal Hill cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Larry Huff of Hunt; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Grace Corley
BRANCH — Grace Ann Corley, 65, of Branch died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Sebastian County. She was a retired laborer for Hill Co. in Charleston and a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Charleston.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Morris cemetery in Bloomer.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon; a daughter, Debbie Corley of Mulberry; a son, A.J. Corley of Magazine; five sisters, Nelly Rietman, Audra Harris and Linda Case, all of Charleston, Beatrice Passmore of Lavaca and Mary Sexton of Barling; three brothers, Roy and Robert Williams, both of Charleston, and Billy Williams of Lavaca; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bud Passmore, Frank Rietman, Ronnie Case, Carl and Tony Sexton, Willie Cannon and David and Chris Williams.

Lexis Rain Griffith, infant daughter of Jon and Melissa Griffith, passed on the Lord on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004. She is now in the arms of the Lord in Heaven. Lexis is survived by loving big sister London Griffith; her paternal grandparents Darlene Griffith of Fort Smith and Les and Shirleen Griffith of Van Buren; paternal great-grandparents Dorsey and Betty Rauser; maternal grandparents John and Gloria England; maternal great-grandparent Polly Materniak; great uncle Jimmy Carter; and uncles and aunts Joe and Abigail Keys with son Mason Zachariah Keys, Dusty and Rachel Shade with daughter Ashton Leigh Shade, Jackie Horton with son Denver Daniel Horton and Chris Horton with daughter Kari Shea Horton.
Marie Stroud
Marie Stroud, 67, of Greenwood died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a retired nurse at Sparks Regional Medical Center and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister and past president of the Presentation Circle. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Coleman; her father, James Coleman; her sister, Carolyn Presson; and a grandchild, Justin Griffith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, William W. Stroud of the home; one son, Michael Gilham of Greenwood; two daughters, Teena Gosack of Greenwood and Nancy Hentges of Tulsa; two stepdaughters, Sally Nunley and Fran Hall, both of Fort Smith; three brothers, James Coleman Jr. and Roy Coleman, both of Fort Smith, and John Coleman of Greenwood; three sisters, Mary Seaman of Greenwood and Patricia Brodie and Shirley Coleman, both of Van Buren; 12 grandchildren and none great-grandchildren.

Hazel Mae Belt
Hazel Mae Belt, 69, of Alma died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in a local hospital. She was the first lady school bus driver for the Van Buren School District, from which she retired. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Gill cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, T.J. Belt of the home; a daughter, Deanna Johns of Alma; three sons, Darrell Belt of Mulberry and Dennis and Darwin Belt, both of Alma; and eight grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Delmar Lewis, Doug Cannady, Johnny House, Bill Moore, Clint Ward and Earl Shaw.
Hazel Jones
Hazel Jones, 84, of Fort Smith was born in Ralls, Texas, to John and Mary Spiller and left for her heavenly home Friday, March 12, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church and attended Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas, and the Stamps Baxter School of Music in Dallas. She was a musician, music teacher and gospel singer for more than 50 years before her retirement. She not only taught private lessons in her home but taught at Jeffrey’s Music Studio in Hawaii and Plunkett’s Studio in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Naomi, brother John Spiller Jr., stepfather W.T. Roberts and grandson Steve Starkweather.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Havana cemetery in Havana under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Dixie Ann Jones of Fort Smith and Marilyn Starkweather of Bay City, Mich.; one son, Dustin Markel of Cocoa, Fla.; three grandchildren, Dan Starkweather, John Randolph and Cyrus Rahmati; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Coye Lorraine Pearce Schirmer
Coye Lorraine Pearce Schirmer, born to Grover Cleveland and Audie Catherine McCoy Pearce in Little Rock on Feb. 7, 1916, passed away March 11, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roy Edmund Schirmer. She was an alumna of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas Medical School of Medical Technology. She was an alumna of Delta Gamma sorority, a Presbyterian and member of the Sebastian County Medical Alliance.
She is survived by her son, Roy Edmund Schirmer Jr. and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Gregg Schirmer of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Richard Edmund Schirmer and Sarah Caitlin Schirmer, both of Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
J.C. Lee
J.C. Lee, 83, of Paris died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, in his home. He was a member of Midway Assembly of God and served four years in the Army during World War II in northern France, earning the Bronze Star and a Good Conduct medal for his service there. Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Sadie Horn Lee; two brothers, Arlis and Leon Lee; and a sister, Loreen Lee.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Midway Assembly of God with burial at Horn cemetery in Midway under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris. Pallbearers will be James C. Jones, Kenny, Kevin and Nick Hughes, Mitchell Jones, Curtis Varnell and Art and Jimmy Carter.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Erma F. Jones Lee of Paris; two daughters, Sharon Fly of Stilwell, Okla., and Patty Hamilton of Fort Smith; a son, Bill Lee of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Rosie Bradley of Las Vegas; five brothers, Fay of Paris, Russell of Oklahoma City, Junior of Las Vegas and James and Kenneth, both of Ventura, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
