Mrs. Susan Stafford

Ms. Susan Stafford, 47, of Newark died Sunday, November 7, 2010. She was born October 2, 1963 at Batesville, the daughter of Pascoe “Pap” Stafford and Etola Dement. Ms. Stafford was of the Methodist faith, and enjoyed swimming. She was preceded in death by her father, Pascoe “Pap” Stafford; and her brother, Randy Stafford. Ms. Stafford is survived by her mother and step-father, Etola and Charles Dement of Newark; one nephew, Mathew Graham Stafford of Batesville; and several cousins.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Connie Lou Wheeler
March 26, 1957 - November 11, 2010
Ms. Connie Lou Wheeler, 53, of Newport, formerly of Bay Saint Louis, Missouri, died Thursday, November 11, 2010. She was born March 26, 1957 at Pennsylvania, the daughter of Lewis and Carlene Myers. Ms. Wheeler was a homemaker, and a member of the Jesus is Lord Family Worship Center at Jacksonport. She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Myers; her brother, Pete Myers; and her companion, Percy Chuck Adams. Ms. Wheeler is survived by three daughters, Melissa Asher Hughes and husband Shawn of Newport, Mary Wheeler Reed and husband, Carlous of Coolwater, Mississippi, and Tracy Wheeler of Coolwater, Mississippi; one son, William Wayne Wheeler, Jr. of Coolwater, Mississippi; her mother, Carlene Myers Woodward; two brothers, Durance Myers of Mississippi and Lionel Myers of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Debra Schoolmaker, Breand Myers, and Donna Gunderson, all of Mississippi; and ten grandchildren, Tyer Asher, Dallas Asher, Anthony Wheeler, Zander Wheeler, Cyntonio Dicus, Taneeley Reed, Chloie Wheeler, Adam Wheeler, Brandon Wheeler, and Tyler Wheeler.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Jesus Is Lord Family Worship Center. Visitation is Saturday, 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Sandhill Cemetery.

Mr. Clarence Curtis, Jr.
November 11, 1945 - November 14, 2010
Mr. Clarence “Junior” Curtis, 65, of Jacksonport died Saturday. He was born November 11, 1945 at Jackson County, the son of Clarence Washington Curtis and Anna Hamby Curtis. Mr. Curtis was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Curtis and Glenn Curtis; two sisters, Zella Stevenson and Loretta Curtis. Mr. Curtis is survived by two sons, Mark Curtis of Jacksonport and Tim Curtis of Iversville, Alabama; one daughter, Cindy Coleman of Harrisburg; one brother, Allen Curtis of Boaz, Alabama; and three grandchildren. There are no formal services planned at this time.

Mr. Boyce Lee "Blackie" Gilmore
October 03, 1927 - November 15, 2010
Mr. Boyce Lee “Blackie” Gilmore, 83, of Swifton died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Jonesboro. He was born October 3, 1927 at Swifton, the son of Robert L. and Effie (Halcomb) Gilmore. He married Miss Lola Rogers on July 15, 1950. Mr. Gilmore was a mate on a riverboat for thirty-two years, and had also farmed. He enjoyed playing checkers, and livestock. Mr. Gilmore was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Lee Gilmore, Jr., and Virgil Gilmore; and two sisters, Almadene Vinson and Gertrude Curry. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lola (Rogers) Gilmore; three sons, Roger Gilmore and wife Rita of Crawfordsville, Arkansas, Bobby Gilmore and wife Debbie of Swifton, and Ricky Gilmore of Swifton; two daughters, Debby Crider and husband, Kenny of Swifton, and Penni Manuel and husband David of Swifton; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Swifton Baptist Church. Interment is in Swifton Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Gary Worthington, Harry Wright, Mark Odgen, Jay Hartsell, Matthew Worthington, and Doug Worthington. Honorary pallbearers are Odean Templeton, Carl Ray Melton, Charles Gwaltney, and Mitch Worthington.

Mr. T.J. "Burr Head" Russell
July 13, 1926 - November 16, 2010
Mr. T.J. “Burr Head” Russell, 84, of Swifton died Tuesday, November 16, 2010. He was born July 13, 1926 at Newport, the son of Rudy Cowgill and Joanna (Hargis) Russell. Mr. Russell was a lifetime resident of Pitts, until moving to Swifton in 1957. Mr. Russell was a farmer, and was also the former co-owner of Fayes Café at Swifton. He was a member of the Swifton First Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Ted Russell, Bob Russell, Harold Russell, and Eugene Russell. He is survived by three sons, Johnny Russell and wife Bonnie, Clayton Russell and wife Sheri, and James Russell, all of Swifton; two daughters, Hellen Blank and husband Ron of Traverse City, Michigan and Dee Scott and husband James of Lillian, Alabama; one brother, Joe Russell of Harrisburg; two sisters, Eva Metts of Decatur, Alabama and Larue Wilson of Highland Village, Texas; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Swifton First Baptist Church with interment in Swifton Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Todd Fortune, Doug Fortune, Charlie Russell, James Wilson, Josh Russell and Landon Russell.

Mrs. Jeanne Gay
December 07, 1928 - November 15, 2010
Mrs. Jeanne Morris Gay, 81, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri on November 15, 2010. She was born December 7, 1928 at Tuckerman, and was a long time resident of Pocahontas and Jacksonport, Arkansas. Mrs. Gay was a homemaker, and an employee of Waterloo industries and Wal-Mart of Pocahontas. Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt and Della Roaseau; one brother, Conley Roaseau; one daughter, Donna Beach; one son, Stanley Renz; and spouses, Gene Morris and J.C. Gay. She is survived by her daughters, Lugene Morris Rackley and husband Tommy of Pocahontas, and Wendy Morris Gay and husband Rickey of Leavenworth, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Pocahontas, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Committal service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Watson Cemetery in Newport.

Pallbearers will be Dale Morris, Duane Morris, LaGrand James, Jimmy Joe James, Randy Anis and Joey Ashcraft Memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Research.

Mrs. Lois Hightower
December 09, 1933 - November 15, 2010
Mrs. Lois Durham Hightower, 76, of Bradford died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Batesville. She was born December 9, 1933 at Union Hill, the daughter of Roy and Cora (Davis) Durham. Mrs. Hightower was a dietician at Harris Hospital several years, and a homemaker. She was a member of the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Hightower was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club of Union Hill and Thida, and on the Board of Directors of Brown’s Cemetery. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, cattle, and going to Church. Mrs. Hightower was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Ray Durham; one sister, Lillian Winfrey; and her parents. She is survived by her husband, James L. “Jim” Hightower; two sons, Randy Hightower and wife Kathy of Union Hill and Mark Hightower and wife Lana of Union Hill; one brother Lawrence “Bub” Durham of Gary, Indiana; one sister, Bonnie Barnwell of Little Rock, Arkansas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Hightower, Mike Barnwell, Wesley Osbourn, Tim Shaw, Ben Hightower, and Joey Hightower. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Hightower, Adam Hightower, Zach Cros, Dr. Cummins, Dr. Norton, Dr. Jeffrey, Dr. Vangroun; and the White Rive Medical Center ICU Nursing Staff.

Mrs. Dorothy Ona Parsley
November 03, 1918 - November 18, 2010
Mrs. Dorothy Ona (Seaton) Parsley, 92, of Newport died Thursday, November 18, 2010. She was born November 3, 1918 at Newport, the daughter of Charles Monroe and Deliah Agnes (McCroskey) Seaton. She married Mr. Elmore Henry Parsley on December 10, 1945. Mrs. Parsley worked alongside her husband as owner and operator of Parsley’s Grocery, and on the family farm. She was a member of the Northside Church of Christ, and enjoyed piecing quilt tops and crocheting. Mrs. Parsley was preceded in death by her husband, Elmore Henry Parsley; and one sister, Olga McNutt. She is survived by one daughter Emogene Cason and husband, Bobby of St. Charles, Missouri; two grandchildren, Patrick and Brandon Cason; and one great-grandchild, Justin Wayne Cason.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Gracelawn Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Ruby (Kinder) Benson
June 22, 1931 - November 21, 2010
Mrs. Ruby Lee (Kinder) Benson, 79, of Swifton departed this life on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Jonesboro. She was born June 22, 1931 at Swifton the daughter of E.B. and Eula Jane Kinder. Mrs. Benson was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening, quilting, and cooking for her friends and family. She was a member of the Murphy’s Chapel Assembly of God Church in Swifton. Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Benson on January 19, 1985; two brothers, Carl and Ray Kinder; and four sisters Lola Mae Kinder, Joyce Kinder, Alma Jean Benson, and Lois Self. She is survived by three sisters, Faye Keaster of Dierks, Arkansas, Pauline Calhoun of Swifton, and Aline Brewer of Swifton; one brother, Joe Kinder of Swifton; one brother-in-law, Jack Benson of Swifton; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Kinder of Swifton. Although she did not have children, she treated her twin nieces, Tronda Watkins of Jonesboro and Shawnda Nunn of Paragould, as if they were her own. She also leaves behind many friends and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Swifton First Assembly of God with Bro. Carl Neal and Bro. Floyd Porter officiating. Interment will be in Swifton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Kent Watkins, Andy Watkins, Rick Nunn, Rickey Benson, Tony Kinder, and Tim Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Benson, Jim Daniels, Jim Rorex, Charles Kinder, and Bobby Keller. Memorials may be made to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, 1148 East Matthews, Jonesboro, AR 72401.

Mrs. Pauline Parnell Holcombe
August 22, 1931 - November 23, 2010
Mrs. Pauline (Brown) Parnell Holcombe, 79, of Newport died Tuesday, November 23, 2010. She was born August 22, 1931 at Goodwin, the daughter of Tom and Allie (Bridges) Brown. Mrs. Holcombe was first and foremost a mother, and a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family and fishing. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd B. Parnell, Sr.; her second husband, C.T. “Punch” Holcombe; one brother, Buddy Brown; two sisters, Ruth Hemenway and Maxine Bowen; and her parents. Mrs. Holcombe is survived by two sons, Floyd B. Parnell, Jr. of Swifton and Larry Thomas Parnell of Newport; and two grandchildren, Thomas Laird Parnell and Floyd B. Parnell, III “Trey”.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Ollie Swearngin Underwood
September 01, 1951 - December 04, 2010
Mrs. Ollie (Swearngin) Underwood, 59, of Searcy, died Saturday, December 04, 2010. She was born September 1, 1951 at Newport, the daughter of Lawrence and Lucille Swearngin. Mrs. Swearngin was a member of the Kensett First Baptist Church, and enjoyed reading her Bible and going to church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Underwood; and her parents. Mrs. Swearngin is survived by two sons, Larry Malone and Charles Underwood, Jr., both of Searcy; and one brother, Lawrence Swearngin of Judsonia.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Watson Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. until service time at Jackson’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Toby Burrow
October 18, 1970 - August 24, 2010
Mr. Toby Burrow, 39, of Bradford died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Little Rock. He was born October 18, 1970 at Dyersburg, Tennessee, the son of Clyde Wayne and Ora May (Lewis) Burrow. Mr. Burrow was a member of the Church of Christ. Never expected to survive childhood, he fought Cystic Fibrosis for thirty-nine years, and was the poster child for the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation from 1973-1977. Mr. Burrow enjoyed and lived his life to the fullest, living three lives in one. He survived several automobile accidents, and a double lung transplant. He made a friend of everyone he met, and had a great spirit. Mr. Burrow enjoyed traveling the world, having been to Mexico, Hawaii, California, Texas, Wyoming, and Florida. He was a skilled hunter and a skilled marksman. He enjoyed shooting guns, riding four-wheelers, collecting knives, driving his prowler, fishing, and weight lifting. Mr. Burrow was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Wayne Burrow. He is survived by his mother, Ora May (Lewis) Burrow; one brother, Charles Burrow of Dyersburg, Tennessee; three sisters, Becky Munn of Bradford, Teresa Parra of San Antonio, Texas, and Cecelia Burrow of Bradford; three nephews, Chad Sterling of Searcy, Austin Burrow of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Ty Gregory Parra of San Antonio, Texas; and two nieces, Whitney Burrow of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Alyssa Parra of San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Oakland Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Susan Emily (Rea) Williams, 40, of Diaz died Monday, May 3, 2010. She was born February 17, 1970 at Jacksonville. Mrs. Williams attended Southside Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chares Philip and Mickie Douglas Rea. Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Jessie Williams; a half-sister, Christie Morgans of North Carolina; step-sister, Missy Akers of Idabel, Oklahoma; and two step-brothers, Monte Sharp and Chris Sharp, both of Tennessee.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Springs Cemetery.
