Virgie Waters
Virgie Louise Waters, 81, of Fort Smith died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a retired clerk for Shipley Baking Company, member of Trinity Baptist Church and the widow of Army Lt. Col. James H. Waters.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel, with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Oswald of Fort Smith; one son, Robert Sr. of Atlanta; two sisters, Rose Crow of Phoenix, Ariz., and Belle Collyar of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Furness, Butch Hendricks, Clay Binyon, Rick Sharp, Kevin Shade and Brandon Walker.
The body may be viewed from noon today until 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 212 Natural Resource Dr., Little Rock, AR 72205.

Pauline Wright
Pauline “Tiny” Wright, 76, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in a nursing home. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Mayberry cemetery in Central City under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Sr. of Fort Smith; three daughters, Sharon Loop of Lavaca, Linda Skidmore of Ramona, Okla., and Pam Lokey of Booneville; a son, Clifford Jr. of Fort Smith; a stepbrother, Ivan Hall; eight grandchildren, Chad Buker, Robert and Richard Strunks, Sandra Moon, Marcus Dean, Angie Million, Bryan Wright and Jessica Lokey; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Dewey Murphree
Mrs. Dewey Hassie Murphree, 94, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was a retired nurse’s aide at Sparks Regional Medical Center and a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at Putman Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Heavener cemetery in Heavener under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Ellene Rebsamen Polk of Fort Smith; two sons, Rhonald of Fort Smith and Derrell of Mobile, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Cynthia Galloway, Bill Rebsamen and Bob Murphree, all of Fort Smith, C.B. Rebsamen Jr. of Fort Myers, Fla.; Kelly Nye of Austin, Texas, and Chris, Whitney and Preston Murphree, all of Mobile; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert and Chris Murphree, Bill and Aaron Rebsamen, Ryan Galloway and Carroll Satterfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 14th and Grand, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

James Whitlock
ALMA — James “Fred” Whitlock, 88, of Alma died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in a local hospital. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired service station attendant.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Van Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Fort Smith National cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; a daughter, Sandra Henson of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a brother, Jerry of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Perry Henson Jr. and Christina Nalley, both of Tulsa.
Pallbearers will be Mark Nalley, Perry Henson Jr., Toby and Todd Medlock, Robin Cameron and Rusty Cagle.
The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Minnie Belle Andrews
SPRING, Texas — Minnie Belle Andrews, 85, of Spring, Texas, formerly of Fort Smith and Sallisaw, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in Spring. She was a homemaker and the widow of Dennis Andrews.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel of Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Mattox of Spring, Texas; two sons, Burl of Catoosa, Okla., and Charles of Tulsa; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Jackie Cameron Wambsgans
Jackie Cameron Wambsgans, 46, of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Dec. 23, at her home. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, Md., and past president of the Silver Spring Lions Club. An award-winning poet, she was also a Sunday School teacher, a volunteer worker at Woodland School and a contract specialist for the Government.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gill cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Silver Spring, Md; a daughter, Angela Nicole Torres of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Matthew Cameron Wambsgans of the home and David Blair Wambsgans of Washington, D.C.; 10 sisters, Cathy Hall of Tulsa, Linda Preston, Vickie Jones, Gladys Smith and Sandy Chamberlin, all of Fort Smith, Shirley Watkins of Mountainburg, Virginia Runion of Bethalto, Ill., and Betty Mann, Darlene Johnson and Mary Whatley, all of Van Buren; three brothers, Floyd Cameron of Alma, Billy Cameron of Fort Smith and Don Cameron of Alabama; and one grandchild, Ashley Nicole Torres of Washington, D.C.
Pallbearers will be John Jones, James Hampton, Darrell Gattis, Will and Justin Cameron and Joaquin Torres.
The family will visit with friends until 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bobby Maxwell
Bobby J. Maxwell, 55, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Fort Smith. He was an electrician for Planter Peanuts for 21 years and member of Mixon Baptist Church in Booneville.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 3 p.m. at Caulksville cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; one son, Bobby Maxwell Jr. of Bend, Ore.; two stepsons, Marty Price of Ratcliff and Kris Price of Greenwood; two brothers, Donald Maxwell of Denver, Colo., and Kenneth Maxwell of Benton; two grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Russell Bell, Russ Evans, Paul Howard, Billy Wilson, Russell McDaniel, Jim Steele, Bill Rider and Otis Arnold.
The family will visit with friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Linda Johnson
Linda Ann Johnson, 49, of Fort Smith, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a poker dealer.
A private service will be held at Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, Calif., with local arrangements under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Allison Johnson of Fort Smith; two sons, Joseph Davidson of Reno, Nev., and Scott Johnson of Sacramento, Calif.; her father, Roy of Fort Smith; a sister, Connie Hays of Fort Smith; four brothers, Clifford and Jerry, both of Antioch, Calif., Raymond of Mulberry and Johnny of Mountain View, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Clara Elizabeth Davidson of Reno.

May Hatfield
May Hatfield, 98, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and Jehovah’s Witness.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home.
She is survived by a host of friends.

Mildred White
Mildred Pauline White, 93, of Booneville died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in a Booneville hospital. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Booneville. She was the widow of Everett White.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
She is survived by two daughters, Doris Gene White McComas and Leona Godfrey, both of Booneville; three sons, Clifford of Loveland, Colo., Virgil of West Fork and Richard of Booneville; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

James Ferguson
James Rex Ferguson, 82, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 23, in a local hospital. He was a retired plant manager at Riverside Furniture in Fort Smith and a member of Midland Heights Methodist Church.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at Edwards Van Alma Chapel with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; two daughters, Judy Howard of Fayetteville and Linda Spears of Rogers; a son, David Ferguson of Alma; three sisters, Ora Sullivan of Springfield, Mo., Dema Smith of Van Buren and Bulas Mitchell of Van Buren; six grandchildren, Ryan and Brent Howard, Julie Spears, Kristin, Katelyn and Kelby Ferguson; and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Bill Martin, Bill Cole, Ron Selby, Richard Udouj, Brett Avlos and Ron Southall.
The family will visit with friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Benjamin Kelly
Benjamin Allen Kelly, 3, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in a Little Rock Hospital.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mount McCurry cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Vonda Kelly of Chester; his father, Nathan Kelly of Fort Smith; a brother, Matthew of Fort Smith; a sister, Rachel Kelly of Fort Smith; maternal grandmother, Joyce Irvin of Chester; and paternal grandmother, Edith Kelly of Fort Smith.

Carl Reames
Carl J. Reames, 83, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in a nursing home. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Knights of Columbus and was a Eucharist Minister and Lector at Immaculate Conception. He was retired warrant officer for the U.S. Army, company commander of 39th Engineers in Korea. He was an avid golfer and former superintendent of Water Pollution Control for the city of Fort Smith. He was a member of the Arkansas E.P.A.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception. The body was cremated and will be buried at a later date at Arlington National cemetery, Washington, D.C.
He is survived by one daughter, Carla Reames of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Sister of Christian Doctrine Angela Reames of New York and Gladys Reames Prather of South Carolina; and two brothers, Charles Reames of Bath, S.C., and Ray Reames of Fort Mill, S.C.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Education Fund, 22 N. 13th St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Mattie Paul
OZARK — Mattie Paul, 87, of Ozark died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in an Ozark Nursing Home. She was a graduate of College of the Ozarks and obtained a Masters degree in social work from Tulane University. She worked as an area supervisor for the welfare department and as the county director for the welfare department from 1934 until retirement. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Ozark. She was the widow of Jack D. Paul.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Methodist Church of Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She is survived by two nieces, Susie Cunningham of Clarksville and Mickey Wiley of Van Buren
The family will visit with friends Monday at Mrs. Paul’s home at 607 River Street in Ozark.

Chester McElhaney
OZARK — Chester Argest McElhaney, 96, of Ozark died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, in his home. He was a retired owner/operator of small businesses in the Ozark area including restaurants, grocery stores and rental property. He was the widower of Attie (McKenzie) McElhaney.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hyler of Ozark; six sons, Dean of Conway, Bob of Ozark, Bill of Bennett, Colo., Argest of Hooks, Texas, Louis of Lawrence, Kan., and Ealeard of Tuttle, Okla; one brother, Luther of Lake City, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dean, Bob, Bill, Argest, Louis and Ealeard McElhaney.
The family will visit with friends from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Homer Irwin
ALIX — Homer Irwin, 84, of Alix died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in an Ozark hospital. He was a steel worker and a Mason.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Highland cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Irwin, and several nieces and nephews.
