Vernon “Bud” Wilcox
Vernon “Bud” Wilcox, 82, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was a retired salesman from AC Delco, Division of General Motors, where he worked from 1951 to 1982, and he was the owner of World Travel Service from 1982 to 1993. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Gleaners Sunday school class, American Legion, VFW, DAV, Purple Heart Association and Battle of the Bulge Association. His first wife, Orean Spink Wilcox, his second wife, Christine M. Wilcox, a daughter, Karen Parker, and a sister, Eunice Mynatt, preceded him in death.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Roebuck Chapel with a private family committal service at U.S. National cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Wilcox; one son, Charles Wilcox of Highland Ranch, Colo.; one sister, Erma Stockman of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Steven Parker of Allen, Texas, Alan Parker of Carrollton, Texas, Lucas Wilcox of Providence, R.I., and Bret Wilcox of Littleton, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Yuval Parker, William Parker and Helen Parker; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Paul Edward Asher
Paul Edward Asher, 57, of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at home under the care of hospice after a long illness. He was born June 17, 1947.
Paul enjoyed life. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking, decorating and antiques.
Memorial service to be held at a later date with burial of cremains at Houston cemetery in Alix. Arrangements under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Paul is survived by his feline companion, Orville; his mother, Doris Thompson of Fort Smith; four sisters, Grace Brossman of Fort Smith, Rita Crossland of Greenwood, Helen Williams of Seligman, Mo., and Shirley Frisby of Clearwater, Fla.; two brothers, Johnny Asher of Moore, Okla., and Jimmy Asher of Seligman, Mo.; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Grace Blan
MENA — Grace M. Lee Blan, 93, of Mena died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004. She was born Aug. 25, 1911, in Fort Yates, N.D. She worked with migrants gathering crops, cooking for work camps and cafes. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the widow of Aubrey Lee and Jeff Blan.
Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial at Antlers City cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
Pallbearers were Robert and Thomas Pipkin, Michael Couch and William Pate.
Danny Teague
Danny Lee Teague, 57, of Van Buren died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, in a local hospital. He was of the Baptist faith, a welder and home builder, a member-player of the Fort Smith Pool League, and a former supervisor for the Water Department of Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Angela Teague of San Diego; three sons, Jason Teague of Fort Smith, Shane Napier of Van Buren, and Kevin Teague of the home; four sisters, Betty Flurry of Roland, Ruby Tugg and Brenda Hurston, both of Fort Smith, and Linda Comstock of Hackett; three brothers, John and William Teague, both of Roland, and Roy Teague of Jenny Lind.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Nancy Gordon
Nancy Gordon, 79, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in her home. She was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Campbell Chapel A.M.E. Church, the Women’s Missionary Society, the church choir and the steward board, and was a lab tech at Holt Krock Clinic.
Graveside service will be noon Thursday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Wright and Mamie Feimster, both of Fort Smith; two sons, Herbert Flynn of Fort Smith and Robert Woods of Hot Springs; a sister, Patsy Robinson of Salinas, Calif.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sanford Nelson Jr., Mark Greene Sr., Brandon Triplett, Shawn Jones, Alton Haney and Leroy Cook.
The family will visit with friends at 4418 Howell St. in Fort Smith.
Kathy Eichenberger
RUSSELLVILLE — Kathy Colleen Eichenberger, 58, of Russellville died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, in her home. She was born July 23, 1946, in Sikeston, Mo. She was a member of Russellville Missionary Baptist Church, retired from Entergy at Arkansas Nuclear One, and a practicing nurse employed by Millard-Henry Clinic.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Russellville Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Elmwood cemetery in Morrilton under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by her husband, David; a daughter, Amy Collins of Russellville; a son, Michael James of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Jamie Eichenberger of Russellville and Frankie Damon of Ola; a sister, Carolyn Greenway of Marquette, Ill.; a brother, Jim Rupe of North Fort Meyers, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Oscar, John and Ken Johnson, Nick Fincher and Les Miller.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Allen Phillips
ASHBY, Mass. — Allen Phillips, 84, of Ashby, Mass., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a roofer and housing contractor, served as animal control officer in Ashby for 25 years, was a member of Ashby Grange and received its community service award in 2002, and received the Massachusetts State Senate Official Citation in recognition of many years of service to the town.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Antioch Church with burial at Antioch cemetery in Booneville under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha; a son, Gary Phillips Sr. of Swansey, N.H.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. R.C. Harris
Mr. R.C. Harris, age 88, a resident of Athens, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Hot Springs. He was born Oct. 18, 1916, in Daisy to John and Tamar DePriest Harris. He was a farmer, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the Mount View Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife, Farris Harris.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Lynn Roberts of Greenwood and Sonja and Randy Markham of Langley; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Byrl and Mary Lee Sirmon of Magnolia; a very dear friend, Mabel Pinkerton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Harris will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Mount View Missionary Baptist Church in Umpire with Kenny Bizzell officiating. Burial will follow at Athens cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.
Dorothy Y. Miller
Dorothy Y. Miller, age 85, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at the home of her daughter Joan Donaldson.
Born in Fort Smith on April 16, 1919, she was the daughter of Simon and Rachel (Getzler) Yaffee.
Mrs. Miller had been a lifelong resident of Fort Smith until moving to Saranac Lake to live with her daughter Joan in 2000. She and her husband, Theodore “Ted” Miller, were the owners and operators of the Eagle Clothing Store on Garrison Avenue in Fort Smith for over 50 years. Together, the two of them traveled to all of the 50 United States and many of the provinces of Canada and visited many countries throughout Europe and Asia. During the 1960s and 1970s, both Dorothy and Ted were very active in the Fort Smith Little Theater, with Ted working behind the scenes and Dorothy relishing her parts on stage, especially in comedy productions.
Under Dorothy’s encouragement, the entire Miller family became active in Girl Scouting. Mrs. Miller served in every capacity from troop leader to president of the Mount Magazine Girl Scout Council in Fort Smith. One of her greatest achievements was seeing both of her daughters receive the highest rank in Girl Scouting. One of her greatest accomplishments during her 50-year association with the Mount Magazine Council was the acquisition of property and the construction of Camp Cahinnio in Booneville. In honor of her years of dedicated volunteer service to Girl Scouting, Mrs. Miller was awarded life membership in the Girl Scouts of America.
While Mrs. Miller’s children were attending public school in Fort Smith, she was always an active member of the PTA and served as president of the PTA of Ballman Elementary School and Ramsey Junior High School.
Dorothy and husband Ted were avid bowlers and belonged to various leagues in the Fort Smith area. They were also active members of the United Commercial Travelers Association of Fort Smith.
Mrs. Miller was a lifelong member of the United Hebrew Congregation of Fort Smith. She was an active member and past president of the Temple Sisterhood and was a longtime member of temple’s board of directors. In the mid 1970s, Mrs. Miller served as the first woman president of the United Hebrew Congregation.
Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Theodore A. Miller. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Stodghill and her husband, Ben, of Seattle and Joan Donaldson and her husband, Cliff, of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Amy, Dorothy and Ted Stodghill and Aaron Donaldson; and a great-grandson, Kaeden Lee. She leaves behind her sister, Helen Held of Montgomery, Ala.; and two nephews, Dana Robertson and his wife, Sharee, of Houston and Roger Held and his wife, Kate, of Baltimore, along with three great-nieces, Sarah Fett of Springfield, Mass., and Rachel and Miranda Held of Baltimore.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith. A graveside service will immediately follow at the United Hebrew cemetery in Fort Smith.

MaryLou Corley
MaryLou Corley, age 63, of Lavaca passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Lavaca. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Central City and worked at the Lavaca Supermarket in Lavaca. She was preceded in death by her son Jordan Warren.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Corley Sr.; four daughters, Veronica Estrada of Tucson, Ariz., Victoria Gillion and her husband, Mike, of Spiro, Sherry Corley of Nevada, and Sharon Corley of California; two sons, Vince Corley and his wife, Kim, of Fort Smith and William Corley Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Lavaca. She is also survived by two sisters, Gloria Cardenas of San Jose, Calif. and Sefinia Hernandez of Texas; one brother, Raymondo Hernandez of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be William Corley Jr., Ron Keeling, Jimmy Corley, Larry Corley, David Corley and Mike Corley.
Family visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fentress Mortuary.

Bradley Lee Speaks
Bradley Lee Speaks, 33, of Chester died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1971, and attended Cedarville High School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martin and Eula Mae Fimpel and Reno Dale and Geraldine Elizabeth Speaks, all of Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gill cemetery Arbor with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by three daughters, Amber and Ashley Speaks of Siloam Springs, and Amber Burton of Van Buren; his parents, Robert Dale and Betty Lou Speaks of Chester; two sisters, Christa Friddle and her husband, Wayne, of Alma and Tonya Harshall and her husband, Ryan, of Van Buren; a brother, Rickey Speaks and his wife, Stacey, of Natural Dam; four nieces, Hailee and Necolle Speaks, Makayla and Hanna Harshall; and three nephews, Damian and Dalton Friddle and Dakota Speaks.
Pallbearers will be Kenny and Brian Pittman, Greg Pittman Sr., Greg Pittman Jr., Randy Payne and Timmy Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Monks and Chris Marion.

Juanita Gregory
Juanita Gregory, 83, of Alma died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in a local hospital. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a retired manager for Star Sample Upholstering.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Morrison cemetery near Rudy under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy D. Gregory of the home; two daughters, Raylene Adams of Mulberry and Gayle Williams of Van Buren; two stepdaughters, Lisa Ann Brake of Hot Springs and Sharon Kay Callahan of Ozark; two stepsons, Donald and Gary Gregory, both of Van Buren; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Alan Kizer, Gregg Kizer, Stephen Smith, Brian Holmes, Brian Gilbreath and Corey Jernigan.
Danna Evans
Danna Evans, age 88, of Fort Smith passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Evans will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with interment at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil of the home; a daughter, Darlene V. Collier of Oxford, N.C.; and a son, the Rev. Gary Van Horn of Marion, La.; and two sisters, Helen Teague of Muncie, Ind., and Juanita Raycrost of Titusville, Fla. Other survivors include two stepsons, Ralph Evans of Arkansas and John Evans of Tucson, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Delores Slemp of Shreveport, La., Glena Holiday of Merced, Calif., and Ava Onisick of Maryland; a grandson, Glenn D. Collier of Reedsville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Joy V. Jodon of Eunice, La., and Lynette C. Tilley of Oxford, N.C.; three great-grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Evans will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
W.W. King
The Rev. W.W. King, 91, of Fort Smith died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in a local nursing home. He was a Pentecostal minister for over 50 years, the minister of the Pentecostal Church of God for 39 years and was a truck driver for Midwest Lumber & Supply. He was preceded in death by wives Mable King and Ella Mae King; and a daughter, Rhonda.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Friendly Pentecostal Church of God in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by two daughters, Patty Parnell and husband Charles of Van Buren and Jewel Ruth Morse of Mineral, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Ferrari, Gary Hall, Jeff Wilkinson, C.J. Sales, Robert Cecil and Joe Hughes. Honorary pallbearer will be Earnest Pruitt.
