George Lawson
George F. Lawson, 85, of Fort Smith died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Stigler. He was retired from Athletic Mine & Smelter and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Cindy Sudberry of Fort Smith; three sons, Archie Lawson of Albany, Ore., and Larry and Tommy Lawson, both of Fort Smith; a sister, Margaret Lane of Blue Springs, Miss.; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Justin Sudberry, Chris, Brian and Eric Lawson, Steve Criswell and Chris Hoyle.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Raymond R. Yeager
Raymond R. Yeager, 77, of Mulberry died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1927, in Mulberry to Frederick Eugene Yeager and Essie Jeffers. He was a supervisor for Ayers Furniture, a Navy veteran, a member of American Legion of Mulberry and Mulberry Freewill Baptist Church, and the widower of Barbara Yeager.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Shaffer Funeral Home in Mulberry with burial at Hight cemetery in Mulberry, with the Rev. C.G. Fisher and the Rev. Chet Smith officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Yeager of Ozark; two daughters, Tessa Hayes of Mulberry and Judy Currier of Ozark; six stepdaughters, Rita McCabe of Mulberry, Peggy Rowe of Greenwood, Pat Whitehead of Auburndale, Fla., Beverly Roach of Lowell, Phyllis Ushery of Morrilton, and Mellisa Ross of Clarksville; two stepsons, Tommy Kincy of Van Buren and Danny Kincy of Lavaca; a brother, Wilson “Babe” Yeager of Victorville, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim, Merlin and Raymond Yeager, Tommy and Danny Kincy, Dennis Fisher and Delton Robertson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mulberry American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hight cemetery, c/o of Bill and Betty Cole.
Bradley Eugene Haren
Bradley Eugene Haren, 52, of Fort Smith, beloved husband and father, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born Jan. 31, 1952, in Corona, Calif. He graduated from the Edgewood High School in West Cavina, Calif., in 1971. Brad worked in lumber in Johnsondale, Calif., and Salt Lake City. He married
Sandra Lynn Phillips of Fort Smith in June 1976, and they moved back to Fort Smith in 1978.
Brad was a former employee of the Okla Homer Smith Co., Fort Smith Table and Chair, and MacSteel Corp. He has been an employee of the Whirlpool Corp. in Fort Smith for the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra of the home; three children, Samuel Eugene, Phillip Charles, and Victoria Lynn Haren, all of the home; his mother, Eleanor Haren, and a sister, Sandra Hall, both of Tavares, Fla.; and his father and mother-in-law, Howard and Patricia Phillips of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles William Haren, who passed away on April 4, 2001.
Funeral services will be graveside at noon today at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home and officiated by the Rev. Charles Rogers. The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home today from 9 to 11 a.m.
Mary Elizabeth Earnhart
Mary Elizabeth Earnhart, 83, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in a Burbank, Calif., hospital from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She and her husband, former state Sen. Milt Earnhart, had been on an extended visit with their daughter and granddaughter.
Mary was born Oct. 20, 1921, in Cincinnati. After graduating from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy, she attended dancing classes with Doris Day, Vera Ellen and others. She did professional acting while attending Shuster-Martin School of Drama, where she won a Tyrone Power scholarship. She then appeared with Mr. Power on Kate Smith’s radio network program. Mary met her future husband at Shuster-Martin in 1939 and they married
in June 1943 during Milt’s Army service at nearby Camp Crowder.
In May 1950, Mary, Milt, their children and Mary’s parents, Edward and Julia Robben, moved to Fort Smith. Mary was very active in the community as a kindergarten teacher, Brownie and Girl Scout leader and in little theater, acting and behind the scenes. At a recent ceremony, Mayor Ray Baker presented Mary with an honorary proclamation recognizing her work as a director for the Children’s Theater.
Her husband Milt, daughter Ann Rifat of Hollywood, Calif., sons Tom of Fort Smith and David of Laughlin, Nev., grandchildren Rachel and Matthew Rifat, Kristen Wilkerson, Bryan Earnhart and Shannon Wells, and four great-grandchildren survive her.
Rosary will be said today at 7 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith.
Mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 1920 S. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901; or the Alzheimer’s Association Western Arkansas Chapter, 320 N. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.
Marie Shibley
Marie Breeden Shibley, 86, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a restaurateur, owner and operator of the Dixie Cafe in Van Buren and Shibley’s Cafe in Wittier, Calif., was of the Baptist faith, and the widow of Jesse Shibley and Tom Yerby.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Macedonia cemetery near Uniontown.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Pacello of Van Buren; a son, Fred Shibley of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho; a sister, Winnie Wentz of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bradley, Michael and Joe Howard and Mark Shibley.
Abraham Burden
Abraham Lincoln “A.L.” Burden, 83, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in a local nursing home. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Bell Point Lodge No. 20. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and a POW in a German prison camp for 30 months; and was an Air Force veteran having obtained the rank of major. He was decorated with the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Defense Ribbon; he was the widower of Virginia Burden.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at the U.S. National cemetery with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeannette Holder of Van Buren; a sister, Cuma Lewis of Oklahoma City; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be military.

FOLCROFT, Pa. — Debby Squires Ritter, 48, of Folcroft, formerly of Van Buren, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, in Folcroft. She attended Folcroft Union Church and was a former trucker tag permit agent.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a daughter, Kelly Sumpter of Mulberry; a son, Chris Squires of Muldrow; two brothers, Mike and Larry Wright, both of Van Buren; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Squires, Ricky Moses, Blake, Michael and Courtney Wright and Ricky Holman.

MOUNTAINBURG — Dana Belle Merscham, 63, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a special education teacher for the Mountainburg School System, attended Pigeon Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Mountainburg, and worked as a waitress at Bill Barkley’s Drive-In in Alma.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. The body will be cremated and there will be no public viewing.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby; two sons, Bobby Nickoley of Techmuseh, Kan., and Jamie Nickoley of Topeka, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Nancy Stover of Williamsburg, Kan., and Rebecca Merscham of Ottawa, Kan.; one stepson, Ralph Merscham of Del Rio, Texas; one brother, Larry Porter of Princeton, Kan.; and four grandchildren.
Odis Wilson
KINTA — Odis Stanley Wilson, 87, of Kinta died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in Fort Smith. He worked as a plant operator for Cities Service Oil Co. and was a member of Kinta First Baptist Church, the Quinton VFW and Kinta Senior Citizens.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Kinta with burial at Quinton City cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene; two daughters, Norma Mahan of Eufaula, Okla. and Mary Hill of Wilburton, Okla.; a son, John Wilson of Perry, Okla.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Peggy Sue Lutz, 62, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in her home. She was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Stillwell, Okla. She was a homemaker.

MENA — Shirley Ann Haynes, 67, of Mena died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in a Little Rock hospital. She was born Aug. 8, 1937, in El Dorado. She was a waitress, a member of Assembly of God, and the widow of Jackie Haynes.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Assembly of God with burial at Old Dallas cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
She is survived by a daughter, Vicky Harbison of Hot Springs; four sons, Jack Haynes of Russellville, Kenny Haynes of Antlers, Okla., Jerry Haynes of Mena, and Roger Haynes of Fayetteville; stepmother, Marie McWilliams of El Dorado; three stepsisters, Diane Burson, Patricia Kinard, and Brenda Thompson; two stepbrothers, Kenny and Jim McWilliams; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Carol Leta Riddle, 58, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Charles Haberer
OZARK — Charles Edward Haberer, 89, of Ozark died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in Ozark. He was born Jan. 24, 1916, in Ozark. He was a retired general manager for Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative, a master sergeant in the Army and veteran of World War II, a member of First Presbyterian Church, and a 32nd degree Mason of Ozark Lodge No. 79.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Highland cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Gussie; three sons, Charles and William Haberer, both of Ozark, and Michael Haberer of Van Buren; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
