Katherine Evans

Katherine Evans, age 74, died May 10, 2006.

She is survived by her children, Johnny W. Evans of England, Donald Evans of Texas, Karen Spires of North Little Rock, Marilyn King of Carlisle and Judy Gordon of Sherwood; brother and sisters, Garland Gable and Bessie Mae Barber of Conway and Jean Parnell of Lonoke; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Saturday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke with interment in Weedon cemetery.

Lawrence P. Foley

Lawrence Patrick Foley, 76, of Sherwood, died May 10, 2006.

He was a Korean War veteran, a 32nd Degree Mason in Big Rock Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, the Scimitar Shrine Temple, American Legion Post 1, and the VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ida Virginia Foley; children, Lawrence Foley, Jr., of Albuquerque, NM, Dennis Foley of Austin, TX, Constance Phillips of Roland, OK, Loretta Gaines of Wilburton, OK, Dwight Foley of Whitney, TX, Karla Adair of Cabot, and Mark Foley of Austin, TX; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 13 at Huson Funeral Home Chapel in Sherwood.

Mary Alice Winn

Mary Alice Winn, 65, of Sherwood, died May 11, 2006.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Young, Kathy Veillon, and Pam Veillon; sisters, Jane Hambrick of North Little Rock, Dee Kibedeaux of Eunice, LA, and Dorothy Brown of Colorado Springs, CO; and leaves behind four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Margaret Johnson

Margaret Mary “Peggy” Johnson, 78, of Sherwood, died May 11, 2006.

She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church in North Little Rock.

She is survived by her children, Marina Brooks of Sherwood, Marc Johnson of Van Buren and Carmel Hanley of Tulsa; four grandchildren; sisters, Eva and Ena of Ireland.

Funeral services were held May 15 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment followed at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Arrangements were by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210 or Arkansas Kidney Foundation, # 1 Lile Ct., Little Rock, Ark. 72205.

Theodore Lacy-Lofton

Theodore “Thee” Lacy-Lofton, 101, of Maumelle, died May 9, 2006.

She is survived by her son, Rev. J.W. Lofton of Sherwood; daughters, Jewell Bowe of Flint, MI, and LaVerne Arnold of Maumelle; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 15 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Little Rock and were entrusted to Gunn Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Jeffrey Bryan Allen

Jeffrey Bryan Allen, 40, of Sherwood, died May 12, 2006.

He was a 1984 graduate of Sylvan Hills High School.

He is survived by his son, Jordan Drew Allen of Little Rock; parents, Danny and Jackie Allen; brother, Michael D. Allen; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Jane Kynard, all of Sherwood.

Funeral services were held May 15 at Huson Funeral Home Chapel in Sherwood, with burial at Moore’s Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice Angels, Attention: Kim Clatworthy, 5600 West 12th Street, Little Rock, 72204, or Hospice Home Care Inpatient Center, 2200 South Bowman, Little Rock, 72211.

Kenneth E. Sontag

Kenneth E. Sontag, 74, of Vilonia, died May 16, 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Cotton” Sontag; daughters, Vicki Worley of Springdale, and Sheri Sontag of Mabelvale; son, Gary Sontag of Cabot; sisters, Carolyn Bolin, Hazel Wilson, and Betty Sanders; brothers, David Sontag and Charles Sontag; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held May 18 at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Arrangements were by Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, Ark., 72207, 664-3480.

Jessie Ruth Smith Barraco
Jessie Ruth Smith Barraco, 68, of Memphis, died Oct. 6, 2004, at Baptist East in Memphis.

Born and raised in Hoxie, she was a retired cafeteria supervisor for Veterans Administration in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Randall and Nora Elizabeth Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Paul J. Barraco, Memphis, and Anthony T. Barraco, Plymouth, Mich.; five sisters, Remona Olson, Hickman, Ky., Betty Purdy, San Antonio, Texas, Pauline Rorex and Janice Manning, both of Walnut Ridge, and Ardell Flanagan, Horn Lake, Miss.; and two grandchildren, Mason Barraco and Jacob Barraco.

Private services were under the direction of Mid-South Mortuary Service.

Memorials may be made to Friends for Life.

Glenn Calvin Howard

Glenn Calvin Howard, 52, of Sherwood, died Aug. 5, at Bull Shoals Lake.
He was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas. He worked in computer information technology and was currently a student at Baptist School of Nursing.

Glenn was a member of Parkhill Christian Church and served on the Board of Helping Hand.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Neher Howard; three children, David Christopher, Erin Anne, and Emily Allyce, all of Sherwood; one brother, Durell of Albemarle, N.C.; and his mother, Ellamae Howard of Concord, N.C.
Memorials to either: Parkhill Christian Church, 4400 JFK Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72116 (501) 753-1109 or Helping Hand, P.O. Box 164228, Little Rock, AR 72206 (501) 372-7257.

Service was held Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home with Rev. Miles Cook officiating.

Gwendylon McMurry

Gwendylon Allene Hawkins McMurry died Aug. 9, 2003.
A member of First Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She is survived by a son, Jim McMurry of Sherwood; two daughters, Jean Cochran of Fordyce, Joan Hill of Diamondhead, Miss.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren ; and a sister, Claudia W. Hudson of Pine Bluff.

Graveside service was Tuesday at the Stoney Point cemetery in Fordyce.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Fordyce. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.

William Albert Staton

William Albert Staton died Aug. 5, 2003, at the age of 56.

He was a pipefitter for Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement.

Survivors are five sons, William Abdu, Anthony, Tamogien, of Philadelphia, Pa., Aaron Abdu of Indianapolis, Ind., and Malik Khahl Staton of Sherwood; his mother, Frances Staton of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, Tony Staton; three sisters, Lillian Scott, Clarine Vasquez of Philadelphia, Pa., and Frances Carol Pendergrass of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren; and four stepchildren, Percy, Nakala, Lashonda, and Candies Jones.

Funeral service was Aug. 11, at New Creation Baptist Church, North Little Rock. Service entrusted to Gunn Funeral Home.

James Willard

James Willard of Sherwood, died Aug. 1, 2003.
A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 11, at First United Methodist Church, North Little Rock.

Virda Ethel Byrd

Virda Ethel Chrisco Byrd, age 93, of Perryville, died Aug. 8, 2003.
She was a member of the Perryville Church of Christ, the Extension Homemakers of Perryville.

She is survived by three sons, Windle Byrd of Sherwood, Bobby G. Byrd of Arp, Texas and Harold D. Byrd of Little Rock; two sisters, Mary Duncan of Atwater, Calif., and Gwen Houston of Crocket, Texas; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren.

A gathering of remembrance was held Aug. 11, at the Perryville Church of Christ. Interment was in Martinville cemetery in Damascus.
Service and arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Conway.

Savannah S. Wilson

Savannah Smith Wilson, 86, of Sherwood, died Aug. 5, 2003.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 9, at First Baptist Church-Woodson, with burial in Community cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.

Opal Crownover
Opal Crownover, 91, of Batesville, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 5, 2004, in a Batesville hospital.

Born Aug. 20, 1913, in Portia, she was the daughter of George and Mary Osborne Whitmire. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earnie Wilson; her second husband, Dutch Crownover; a son, Alfred G. Wilson; a daughter, Lura Ketchum; and a great-grandson, Kevin Fisher.

Survivors include two sons, George L. Wilson, Coldwater, Mo., and Larry B. Wilson, Belton, Texas; two daughters, Eunithia Boone, Rockford, Ill., and Sue Wilson, Batesville; a brother, James Watson, Cave City; three sisters, Kathryn Troutman, Brookland, Jean Tate, Cave City, and Lora Carlin, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Willis-Hays Chapel with Rev. Bobby Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Lancaster cemetery at Strawberry under the direction of Willis-Hays Funeral Service of Batesville.

Fred M. Jones

Fred M. Jones of North Little Rock died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.

He was a retired assistant to the Attorney General in the Claims Department of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, past president of the Southwest Claims Association, a 33rd degree Mason York Rite for 61 years, a past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and former mayor of Chillicothe, Texas. He was also a former member of the Lions Club and a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille “Biddie” Jones; daughter, Judy Sims of North Little Rock; sister, Savilla Schwab of Palestine, Texas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Sherwood First Baptist Church Building Fund, 206 S. Fairway Ave., Sherwood, Ark. 72120.

Funeral services were Sept. 24, at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
