Houston Carson Sr.

Houston David Carson Sr., 81, of Sherwood died Sunday, March 14, 2004.
He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. “Day” then worked as a supervisor for Westinghouse until his retirement in 1984. He was a Veteran of Foreign Wars, a Mason, a Democrat, and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma Jean Mitchell Carson of Sherwood; children, Dayna Mowbray of Lake Charles, La., H. David Carson, Jr. of Eads, Tenn., and Tracy Arnold of Sherwood; six grandchildren; sisters, Maureen Harris, North Little Rock, Maxine Call, Benton, and Angie Westbrook, Sherwood; and one brother, Dr. W.E. Carson, San Diego, Calif.

Memorial donations may be made to Sherwood Animal Shelter, Central Arkansas Library System, The Democratic Party, or First Baptist Church Building Fund.
His funeral was Tuesday, March 16, at First Baptist Church of Sherwood, followed by burial at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery, Sherwood. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Judd Neill Bevo Lynn

Judd Neill Bevo Lynn, age 41, of Sherwood died March 14, 2004.
He was a member of the Catholic High Alumni of 1981, and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Little Rock.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Lynn “DiPasquale” of Sherwood; his children, Justin and Jacqueline Lynn of Little Rock; his mother, Ellen Lynn of Little Rock; his sisters, Star Vosholtz of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Renee Gee of Clark Summitt, Pa.; his brothers, Danny Weatherly of Little Rock, Mark Lynn of Little Rock and Gino Lynn of Sherwood.

Memorial services were March 19, in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, Little Rock.

Memorials may be made to Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn, Little Rock, Ark. 72210.

Travis Davis, Sr.

Travis Wayne “Butch” Davis Sr., age 56, of Cabot died March 12, 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Evelyn “Carol” Davis; one daughter, Candy; and one son, Wayne, all of Cabot; one brother, Bill Davis of North Little Rock; and one sister, Carylon Kariker of Sherwood; and five grandchildren.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, March 18, 2004, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with interment following at Mt. Carmel cemetery. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Services, 713 So. Second St., Cabot, Ark.

William Daily Brown
William Daily Brown, 70, of Pocahontas, father of Karen Starr of Smithville, died Jan. 27, 2005, at Pocahontas Healthcare & Rehab. Burial was Monday in the Masonic cemetery at Pocahontas under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas.

Mamie Alline Dawson
Mamie Alline Dawson, 90, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 5, 2005, at Harris Hospital in Newport.

Born in Walnut Ridge, she was a lifetime resident of Lawrence County, a retired homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Dawson; two infant sons; two brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include four nephews and five nieces.

Graveside service is today at 10:30 a.m. at Shady Grove cemetery at Bald Knob with Everett Hart officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Taylore E. Hall

Taylore Elizabeth Hall, 15, died Thursday, March 18, 2004.
She was a ninth-grader and active in cheerleading and other sports at Sylvan Hills High School.

She is survived by her parents, Mallory and Mike Kyzer and Preston Hall and Lisa Pinkston; one brother, Jacob Hall; one stepbrother, Taylor Kyzer; grandparents, Gary and Linda Jackson, Jerry and Sue Hall, Leon and June Kyzer; great-grandparents, Ray and Juanita Jackson, Elizabeth Dutton, Jean Kyzer.
Funeral services were March 22, 2004, at Fellowship North Church. Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home was in charge.

Donations may be made to the memorial fund at the church.

Jae Lynn Russell

Jae Lynn Russell, age 16 of Jacksonville, died Thursday, March 18, 2004.
Survivors include her parents, Ralph and Becky Russell; sisters, Casey Leigh Russell and Abby Rae Russell of the home; grandparents, Louis and Marileigh Jeffers of Jacksonville, Bobby and Leona Russell of Duck Hill, Miss.

She attended church at Bayou Meto Baptist in Jacksonville. She also enjoyed visiting the churches of her friends, Zion Hill, Gravel Ridge Baptist, and Fellowship North. She was a member of the varsity cheerleaders of North Pulaski High School and also a member of the 2004 Mardi Gras National All-Star Champions, CheerTime Tigers of Sherwood. She recently tried for and made the next year’s varsity cheerleading squad at Sylvan Hills High School.

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 23, at McArthur Assembly of God Church, Jacksonville. Burial was in Bayou Meto cemetery. Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home was in charge.

Memorials can be made in Jae’s name to Bethany Christian Services, 1100 North University Avenue, Little Rock, Ark., 72204.

Mary L. Wilkerson

Mary LaJune Wilkerson, 71, of North Little Rock, died March 19, 2004.
She is survived by her two sisters, Mildred Hutcherson of Wichita, Kan., and Aileen Wilson of Baton Rouge, La.; her husband of over 50 years, Whitten Dean Wilkerson; her children, Susan Daniel of Sherwood, Russell Wilkerson of North Little Rock, and Steve Wilkerson, of New York City; and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services were March 23, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, North Little Rock, with interment at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Ellon Holmes

Ellon Armetha Holmes, 75, of North Little Rock died Friday, March 19, 2004.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in North Little Rock.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jimmie Holmes of North Little Rock; son, Gordon Holmes of Beebe; two daughters, Della Rhea Holley of Sherwood and Mary Ellon Rankin of Houston; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Earl Whitmire of Sheridan and Scott Whitmire of Little Rock; and a sister, Zella Mae Harris of Sheridan.
Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

Funeral services were Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment was in Rest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Marie J. Oholendt

Marie Jeanette Ketzscher Oholendt died March 16, 2004.
She served as PTA president, and as an officer in the Officer’s Wives Club. She also volunteered countless hours with the American Red Cross. She was a member of Park Hill Christian Church.

She is survived by her children, Mike Oholendt of Reserve, La., Phil Oholendt of Tucson, Ariz., Jack Oholendt of Bellevue, Neb., Ron Oholendt of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jeanne Whitwell of North Little Rock, Billie Ann Dreher of Sherwood; a sister, Ada Burton of Little Rock; and brother, Byron Ketzscher of North Little Rock.

Funeral service was March 19, at Park Hill Christian Church, North Little Rock, with interment at Roselawn cemetery by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Marie’s name to either the Namaste Alzheimer Center, #2 Penrose Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colo. 80906 or to Park Hill Christian Church, 4400 JFK Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116.

Alicia Nicole Rix

Alicia Nicole Rix, 16, died March 18, 2004.
She was a junior at Sylvan Hills High School where she played soccer and was on the cheerleading squad.

She is survived by her father and mother, Richard and Nicki Rix; two brothers, Blake Leff Rix and Raymond Wesley Rix; maternal grandparents, James and Carolyn Allmon; paternal grandparents, Everon and Toby Ann Rix.

Funeral services were Sunday at North Little Rock First Assembly of God Church with burial in Rest Hills Memorial Park. Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood, was in charge.

Charles E. Pobst

Charles (Charlie) E. Pobst, 70, of North Little Rock, died March 21, 2004.He was in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.He retired as a foreman at Remington Arms after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie of North Little Rock; sons, Mike Pobst of Sherwood and Christ Pobst of Natchitoches, La.; a stepson, Mac Etheridge of Magnolia; stepdaughter, Holly Skiles of Sherwood; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Thursday in Arkansas State Veteran’s cemetery.

Carl Maxie Ferguson
Carl Maxie Ferguson, 57, of Memphis, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 4, 2005, at Methodist University Hospital.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from O'Neal Steel Co.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Ferguson; his parents, James and Alice Ferguson; and two brothers, Bobby Ferguson and Tom Ferguson.

Survivors include two sons, Carl M. Ferguson Jr., Burlison, Tenn., and Thomas Alan Ferguson, Memphis; two sisters, Melba Herring and Sherry Eaves, both of Memphis; a brother, Joe Ferguson, Alicia; and five grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 1 p.m. at Strangers Home Methodist Church in Alicia. Burial was in Clover Bend cemetery under the direction of Roller Family Funeral Home of Memphis.

Faye I. Gentry
Faye I. Gentry, 80, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born Nov. 24, 1924, in Bradley, Okla., she was the daughter of Hugh C. and Jennie Mae Rutledge McClintock. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Gentry, on Feb. 10, 1999, whom she married Oct. 27, 1959; a daughter, Barbara Walker, two brothers, Jim McClintock and George McClintock; and a sister, Lillie Agnew.

Survivors include a son, Terry Gentry, Walnut Ridge; two granddaughters, Debbie Kimball and Tara Gentry; and two great-grandsons.

Graveside service was Friday at 1 p.m. at Myrtle cemetery in Myrtle, Mo., with Bro. Bob Smith officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

J.L. Hoffman
J.L. Hoffman, 79, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died Feb. 1, 2005.

Born April 12, 1925, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of James Lykurgus and Christena Octavious Hoffman.

He worked as an insurance broker and salesman, and for Ford Motor Company for 20 years. After retiring to Sierra Vista in 1989, he worked for R.V. City, and also ran Jay's Country Market in Huachuca City, Ariz., for five years.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marguerite Wright; and a great-grandson, Kolby John Taylor.

Survivors include his wife, Della Jane Wooley Hoffman, whom he married Nov. 11, 1944; two daughters, Bonnie Kaye Riley and Connie Carole Pauzus; a son, Ronald Jay Hoffman; two brothers, Jack Lamar Hoffman and Billy Joe Hoffman; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Morris, Tina Marie Ardy, Janie Taylor, Tara Lynn Parsell, Krisha Ronelle Hoffman, Rhonda Ann Hoffman, Veronica Lynn Hoffman, Daniel A. Desmarais, Tabetha Marie Desmarais and Shana Marie Spears; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Village Meadows Church of Christ with Cecil Price officiating. Burial was in Cochise Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Southern Arizona Chapter, P.O. Box 12989, Tucson, AZ 85732.

Vickie L. Cleveland

Vickie Lynn Cleveland, 46, of North Little Rock, died Aug. 17, 2004. Survivors are her husband of 25 years, Michael Cleveland; her parents Don and Betty Garrison of Sherwood; her children Eric, Hannah, Alynn, Samuel, Jessica and John Vincent, and Jeremy and Angela Lasiter; two grandchildren. Funeral was Saturday, Aug. 21, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, North Little Rock. The family requests donations be made to Friends of Midwives, 5257 Rosestone Drive, Lilburn, Ga. 30047.

Ralph M. Philbrook

Ralph Myron “Phil” Philbrook died Aug. 16, 2004. He was a retired Air Force Major, a Staunch Republican and of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include wife, Jimmie Ruth Philbrook of the home; three sons, Stan Philbrook of San Antonio, Texas, Don Philbrook of Sherwood, and Jeffrey Hubanks of Glendale; two daughters, Marilyn Davis of Springfield, Mo., and Joanna Collins of Mayflower; three brothers, Warren Croscup of Stirling, Western Australia, Frank Croscup of Middleton, Nova Scotia, Alfred Philbrook of Bar Harbor, Maine; one sister, Gerene Croft Robinson of Canning, Nova Scotia; and six grandchildren.
Services were Aug. 20, at Mountain View City Park. Burial was in Flatwoods cemetery. Arrangements by Roller Crouch Funeral Home of Mountain View.

Charles Lee Hyde

Charles Lee “Chuck” Hyde, 62, of Sherwood died Aug. 18, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Judi Hyde; daughters, Carmen McCoig, Michelle Morton and Stacey Horton; sister, Margo Stroud; brother, Steve Hyde; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday at Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood, with interment in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Beebe. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 909 West Second Street, Little Rock, Ark. 82201.

Hazel W. Boerner

Hazel Wilkins Boerner of Sherwood, died Aug. 20, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Joe C. Boerner Jr. of Sherwood. She was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services were Aug. 23, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, North Little Rock, with interment at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Bryant. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice Center, VA Hospital, North Little Rock.
