James “Les” Green

James “Les” Green died April 6, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters - Amy Curtis of Sherwood, Brigette Moody of Lonoke, and Natalie Wirzfeld of Shannon Hills; one son, Adam; his mother, Betty Green of Hoxie; two sisters - Connie of Hoxie and Sue Ann of Walnut Ridge; one brother - Mike of Bossier City, La.; and three grandchildren. Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke, was in charge of arrangements. The celebration of his life was held April 9, at Gateway Fellowship Church. Memorials may be sent to Gateway Fellowship Church.

Pauline B. Denman

Pauline Blassingame Denman, 91, of Sherwood died Friday, April 9, 2004. She retired from Civil Service in Killeen, Texas. She is survived by her grandson; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Veda Blassingame Finger, and Mattie Bennett. Funeral services were Monday at Sherwood Bible Church, with burial at Rest Hills cemetery in North Little Rock. Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sharon Fay Holmes

Sharon Fay Holmes, 50, of Sherwood, died April 9, 2004. She was an employee for the State of Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of North Little Rock. She is survived by her mother, Oleta Holmes Hale of Little Rock; a twin sister, Shelia Holmes of Sherwood and one sister, Hazel Dennis of Conway; three brothers, Allan Holmes and Milas Hale of Sherwood and David Hale of Louisiana. Funeral service was Tuesday at Central Baptist Church, North Little Rock. Graveside service was Tuesday at Mt. Springs cemetery, Belleville. North Little Rock Funeral Home was in charge.

Elmo D. Armagost

Elmo D. Armagost, age 95, of Sherwood died April 8, 2004. He retired from Sutter General Hospital, as head chef, in 1973 after 40 years of service. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Jean Land of North Little Rock; two grandsons; one sister, Viola Dockham of Walnut Creek, Calif.; brothers, Don of Wyoming, Minn., Al of St. Cloud, Minn.; and four great-grandchildren. No formal services will be held. Burial was in Sacramento, Calif., at the Sacramento Memorial Lawn.
Memorials to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053 would be appreciated.

Dolores V. Holder
Dolores V. Holder, 69, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 15, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

A lifetime resident of Walnut Ridge, she was a homemaker and a member of United Free Will Baptist Church. She was a retired bank branch manager for Pocahontas Federal, Worthen and Bank of America.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ann Holder; and her parents, James and Vern Crossno Bratten.

Survivors include her husband, Charles V. Holder; a daughter, Pamela Firebaugh, Cabot; a son, Barry Holder, Cabot; three sisters, Ann Webbe, Walnut Ridge, Janette Cannon, Paragould, and Ruby Bratten, Bono; two brothers, Ronnie Bratten, Big Rock, Ill., and Carroll Bratten, Sycamore, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the House-Gregg Chapel with Bro. Ben Scott officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Mike Webbe, Tony Webbe, Rick Cannon, Chad Holder, Stephan Bratten and Nathan Bratten. Honorary pallbearers were Blake Webbe and Shawn White.

Zula Holt
Zula Holt, 59, of Gilmore, sister of Christine Sullivan of Imboden, died Oct. 16, 2005, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis. Funeral is today at 1 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. Burial will be in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion. Memorials may be made to the Sardis Lake Christian Camp.

Kenneth "K.O." James
Kenneth "K.O." James, 59, of Cave City, brother of Carolyn Willmuth of Strawberry, died Oct. 15, 2005, in Sharp County. Burial was Tuesday in Mount View cemetery, east of Cave City, under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City. Memorials may be made to the Cave City Public Schools Athletic Department, P.O. Box 600, Cave City, AR 72521.

Jesse Roland Pulliam
Jesse Roland "J.R." Pulliam, 79, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 14, 2005, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center, following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 8, 1926, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Jesse Oregon and Emma Rachel Risenhoover Pulliam. A World War II Army veteran, he was retired from an auto cleanup shop and was of the United Free Will Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Pulliam and Leonard Pulliam.

Survivors include his wife, Mearl Davis Pulliam, whom he married Sept. 22, 1951; two daughters, Beverly Ann Hathcock, Walnut Ridge, and Linda Kay Hendrix, Hoxie; and two grandchildren, Trisha Hendrix and Emily Hathcock.

Graveside service was Monday at 10 a.m. at Whittaker cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jerry Hilburn, Marvin Burns, Glenn Hendrix, Jesse D. Pulliam, Harold Forehand and Jim Hathcock.

Memorials may be made to the United Free Will Baptist Church of Walnut Ridge.

Delbert Schlueter
Delbert Schlueter, 74, of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 16, 2005, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro, following a short illness.

Born Nov. 16, 1930, in Saffell, he was the son of Charles Andrew and Beulah Irene Hennessee Schlueter. He was a carpenter and a member of Oak Hill General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilodean Terry Schlueter, whom he married July 16, 1999; two sons, Larry Schlueter, Solvang, Calif., and Gary Schlueter, Bono; two daughters, Sandra Barkley, Jonesboro, and Debbie Owens, Modesto, Calif.; two stepsons, Jerry Clayton, Lebanon, Mo., and Gary Clayton, North Little Rock; a stepdaughter, Patricia Ward, Strawberry; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is today at 10 a.m. at Ward cemetery, with Bros. Royce Schanda, Marion Stringer and Kennard Ward officiating. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Wayne McEntire, Bernice Terry, Sid McGhehey, Harold Wilmuth, Jack Bookout and David Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Flippo, Junior Dean and Bill Kysar.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 511 W. Third, Walnut Ridge, AR 72476 or to Oak Hill General Baptist Church.

Elsie Canella Whitmire
Elsie Canella Whitmire, 83, of Trumann, died Oct. 13, 2005, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born in Strawberry, she was the daughter of Henry and Julia Mason Turner. She lived in Trumann most of her life and was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Kelley, Trumann; two granddaughters, Sabara Heard and Robyn Heard; and two great-grandsons.

A private graveside service was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Jonesboro Memorial Park with Rev. Doug Welborn officiating. Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann had charge of arrangements.

Noma Jean Winfrey
Noma "Norma" Jean Winfrey, 64, of Jonesboro, died Oct. 13, 2005, at Northeast Arkansas Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born at Peach Orchard, she was a 1958 graduate of Hoxie High School, a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She also attended the Hoxie Church of Christ, the Richmond Hill Church of Christ and the Twin City Church of Christ in Helena-West Helena.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Randal "Randy" Winfrey; her parents, Duel Reed and Thelma Reed Franklin; and two brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Blackwell Winfrey; a daughter, Keena Kinsey, Hot Springs; a sister, Liz Hickman, Alicia; and five grandchildren, Darren Winfrey, Cameron Winfrey, Elizabeth Bowden, Claire Kinsey and Grand Randall Kinsey.

Graveside service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hope cemetery in Imboden with Donald Layne officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Tommy Reed, Kevin Reed, David Winfrey, Eddie Reed, Jay Simpson, Jeremy Smelser, Lanny Tinker, Richard Tinker and Darren Defries.

Jimmy Dwain Bagwell
Jimmy Dwain Bagwell, 57, of Powhatan, died Jan. 1, 2006, at Powhatan, following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1948, at Sedgwick, he was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired construction worker and was of the Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred William and Roma McQuay Bagwell; a brother, James Bagwell; and a sister, Louise Tredal.

Survivors include two sons, William Dwain Bagwell, Powhatan, and Jimmy Dwain Bagwell, Black Rock; a stepson, David Allen Midgett, Walnut Ridge; a stepdaughter, Candy Le An Story, Ravenden; a brother, Alfred William Bagwell, Searcy; two sisters, Vera Cunningham and Vida Faye Horton, both of Palm Springs, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Michael Allen Bagwell Story, Justin Richard Story, Rebecca LeAnn Bagwell and Austin Dwain Bagwell.

Graveside service is today at 2 p.m. at Markham cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bagwell, William Bagwell, David Midgett, Jubul Steel, Jeremy Brady and Revell Voyles.

Robert Lee Billips
Robert Lee Billips, 40, of Paragould, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Jan. 2, 2006, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro, following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 5, 1965, in Rockford, Ill., he was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Co. in Paragould and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Allen Billips, Pocahontas; a daughter, Andrea Caldwell, Mammoth Spring; his father, Calvin Billips, Paragould; his mother, Pearl Jean Billips, Paragould; four brothers, Calvin Leon Billips, Charles Wayne Billips, Mark Everett Billips and Christopher McCary Billips, all of Paragould; a grandfather, D.C. Billips, Pocahontas; and a granddaughter.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. Harold Russell officiating. Burial will be in Lorado cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Leon Foley
Leon Foley, 74, of Linden, Mich., died Dec. 29, 2005, at Avalon Hospice, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Smithville, he moved to Michigan, where he was employed by Buick Motor Division until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of UAW Local #599.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Foley; a brother, and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Carmoleta Wallis Foley, whom he married on May 27, 1950; two sons, Don Foley, Colorado, and Wally Foley, Eaton Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Tena Becker, Canada; a brother, Charles Foley, Michigan; two sisters, Mary Root, Michigan, and Shirley Kelly, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Taresa Wright, Josh Becker, Kyle Becker, Steven Foley and Leah Foley; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral was Monday at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Swartz Creek, Mich., with Dr. Roy L. McLaughlin officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery under the direction of Swartz Funeral Home.

Irma Freeman
Irma I. Freeman, 82, of Rochelle, Ill., died Dec. 20, 2005, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Born March 26, 1923, in Imboden, she was the daughter of Ira E. and Orica Fay Swindle Pifer.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Pifer; and two sisters, Bonnie Holt and an infant sister.

Survivors include her husband, John Oscar Freeman, whom she married Oct. 26, 1940, in Black Rock; a son, Ron Freeman, Rochelle; two daughters, Joyce Cross and Barbara Freeman, both of Rochelle; two brothers, Alvin Pifer, Rogers, and Lloyd Pifer, Pea Ridge; a sister, Velma Rassmussen, Rochelle; five grandchildren, Gerri Lynn Brewer, Deborah Hoskins, Michelle Evans, Jason Freeman and Eddie Haspadura; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday, Dec. 23 at Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle, with Rev. Billy Robertson officiating. Burial was in Lawnridge cemetery.

Hazel Hall
Hazel Hall, 92, of Portia, died Jan. 2, 2006, at her home, following a short illness.

Born Oct. 18, 1913, at Denton, she was the daughter of Henry William and Nancy Ann Flippo Brown. She was a homemaker and attended the Christian Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hall, in 1980, whom she married April 5, 1957.

Survivors include a daughter, Joy Sharp, West Memphis; a sister, Opal Goza, Black Rock; and two grandsons, Terry Sharp and Tim Sharp.

Funeral is Thursday at 1 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Roger Brand officiating. Burial will be in Oak Forest cemetery at Black Rock under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Goza, Tommy Goza, Tim Sharp and Elbert Sharp. Terry Sharp will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8.

Alice Marie Hay
Alice Marie Hay, 61, of Sedalia, Mo., formerly of Minturn, died Jan. 1, 2006, in Sedalia.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Pentecostal church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Robert Hall, Cole Camp, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth Neal, Macks Creek, Mo., and Lola Freer, Walnut Ridge; a brother, Jimmy Hay, McClouth, Kan.; and a grandson.

Graveside service is today at 2:30 p.m. at Strangers Home cemetery with Bro. Harold Russell officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 p.m.
