Howell Thompson

Howell M. Thompson, 84, of Cabot died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, was a member of First Baptist Church of Cabot for 42 years, served on the Bank of Cabot Board of Directors for 31 years, and owned Thompson’s Dollar Saver grocery store.

He was preceded in death by his parents, T.W. and Reesie Priest, brother Vernon Thompson, and sister Alby Ferguson.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Marie Thompson; sons John C. Thompson and wife Beverly of Cabot, Tommy Thompson and fiancee Diane Forbes of Morrilton; brother James Thompson of Sherwood; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 10, at First Baptist Church in Cabot. Interment followed Mt. Carmel cemetery.

The family requests any memorials be to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements were by the Cabot Funeral Home.

Glen D. Cook

Glen D. Cook, 81, of Conway, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006. He was a Christian and a member of the Gap Mission near Conway, and had served in the National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Cook of Conway; children Glenda Ann Fields of Rohnert Park, Calif., Phillip Cook of Conway, Paul Cook of Clear Lake, Calif., David Cook of Conway, Colleen Smith of Wooster, Kevin Cook of Conway, and Tammy Wroten of Sherwood; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Magbee cemetery.

Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Funeral Home in Conway.

Betty Gassaway

Betty Janiece Gassaway, 75, of Sherwood died Friday, Sept. 8, 2006.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Gassaway Sr.; son Charles Gassaway Jr.; sister Anna Lou Harris; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock. Interment followed at Edgewood Memorial Park.

Arrangements were by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.

Abbie L. Oldner

Abbie Louise Billingsley Oldner, 66, of Jefferson died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for Pine Bluff Allergy Clinic for many years and was a master seamstress.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Oldner Sr. of Jefferson; daughters Eva Gerbitz and husband Tony of Jefferson, and Lou May and husband Scott of White Hall; sons Chip Oldner and wife Debra of White Hall, and Perry Oldner and wife Andrea of Sheridan; brothers Paul Billingsley Jr. of Sherwood, Jerry Billingsley of Little Rock, and Donnie Billingsley of Jefferson; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son on Tuesday, Sept. 12, with Interment in Memorial Park cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice.

Arrangements were by Ralph Robinson and Son.

Harry D. Wells

Harry D. Wells, 81, of Sherwood died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006. He was retired from Arkansas Best Freight after 30 years and was a member of Cherrywood Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patsy A. “Kuhn” Wells of Sherwood; daughters Judy White of Sherwood, and Debra Painter of Cabot; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Cherrywood Baptist Church, with a graveside service at 2 p.m. at South Fork cemetery in Gurdon.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association, 7509 Cantrell Road, Ste. 100, Little Rock, Arkansas 72207.

Arrangements were by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Sonny Holder
Bobby J. "Sonny" Holder, 76, of Walnut Ridge, died June 1, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

A lifetime resident of Lawrence County, he was a retired farmer and was of the Free Will Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda; a sister, Wanda Bowers; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece Marsh Holder; two daughters, Susan Lyles, Paragould, and Sharon Camp, Maynard; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Cook, Williford, Pharis Davis, Hoxie, and Sherry Lynch, Jonesboro; a stepson, Cameron Martin, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Weldon Holder and Bill Holder, both of Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Mardelle Manning, Little Rock, and Ann Mays, Harrisburg; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held Saturday night, and a graveside service was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Charles Hendrix officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Johnny Dale Neal Sr.
Johnny Dale Neal Sr., 55, of Bono, died June 3, 2006, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born in Walnut Ridge, he lived in the Bono area most of his life. He was a truck driver for Tri-National Inc., and was a member of Victory General Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Roosevelt and Eva Emiline Boothe Neal.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Dale Neal Jr., Bono; a daughter, Jill Nash, Jonesboro; a brother, Bobby Neal, Sedgwick; three sisters, Catherine Mullins and Anna Adams, both of Jonesboro, and Geneva Evans, Batesville; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside service is today at 10 a.m. at Whitaker cemetery, near Walnut Ridge, with Rev. John Freeman officiating. Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Neal, Steve Neal, Jamie Neal, Roy Adams, Bobby Adams and Steven Nash.

Ted R. Ring
Ted R. Ring, 70, of Walnut Ridge, died May 31, 2006, at his home.

Born May 29, 1936, at Eaton, he was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Arthur and Elsie Allen Ring; and six brothers, Weldon Ring, Eldon Ring, Owen Ring, Hurshel D. Ring, Jay Ring and Sherman Ring.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Ring; a daughter, Kathy Ring Staton, Ravenden Springs; two stepdaughters, Sheila Baltz, Pocahontas, and Susan Whitehead, Sheridan; a stepson, Keith White, Paragould; two brothers, Loron Ring, Pocahontas, and Rev. Herman Ring, Alma; two sisters, Juanita Smith, Ellington, Mo., and Dorothy Scott, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge with Revs. Dale Hughart and C.C. Hodges officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery at Walcott under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas.

Pallbearers were Ed Tannehill, Buford Eagan, Stan Jones, Wendell Tyler, Chris Pinkston and Slade Mooney.

Katherine Tennison
Katherine Tennison, 77, of Machesney Park, Ill., died June 5, 2006, at her home.

A homemaker, she had lived in Rockford, Ill., approximately 50 years and was a member of Oak Hill General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lum Tennison.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Norberg, Rockford; a son, Joel Tennison, Rockford; two sisters, Irene Vance, Walnut Ridge, and Madeline Prater, Paragould; two stepsisters, Rose George, Alicia, and Mary Joyce Vaughn, Mountain Home; a stepbrother, Joe Edward McQuay, Jonesboro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Strangers Home cemetery, near Alicia, with Marion Stringer and Royce Shandra officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Visitation is this evening from 5:30 to 8 at the funeral home.

Rachel Lee Boothe Warner
Rachel Lee Boothe Warner, 86, of Walnut Ridge, died June 2, 2006, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Albert and Emma Fry Boothe. She was retired from the Swedish American Hospital in Illinois and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Warner, on Feb. 28, 2004, whom she married March 16, 1950; a sister, Christine Johnson; and a brother, James Boothe.

Survivors include four nephews.

A visitation was held prior to a graveside service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Whittaker cemetery with Bro. Marion Stringer officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Loyd Dwain "Caveman" Carter
Loyd Dwain "Caveman" Carter, 40, of Tuckerman, brother of Pairlee Golden of Alicia, died June 11, 2006. Burial was Wednesday, June 14, in Dowell's Chapel cemetery under the direction of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.

Sher«ree Danielle Ewald
Sher«ree Danielle Ewald, 33, of Hoxie, died June 18, 2006, at her home.

Born Oct. 23, 1972, in Luxton, La., she was the daughter of Junius D. and Shirley Futrell. She was a homemaker and was a member of The Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Ewald; two daughters, Christian Brooke Turner and Anna Marie Trout, both of Hoxie; two sisters, Anita Futrell and Janet Futrell, both of Paragould; and a brother, James Futrell, Paragould.

Graveside service is Thursday at noon at Lorado cemetery with Bro. Freddie Hatfield Sr. officiating. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Willfond, Jesse Martin, Jeffrey Bryant, John Chancellor, Sammy Webb, Junior Moody, James Harris and Michael Householder.

Margaret Flippo
Margaret Jane Flippo, 74, of Walnut Ridge, died June 15, 2006, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab.

Born April 26, 1932, in Hoxie, she was a retired mail carrier and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hoxie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Alpha Colbert Jones; and a brother, Lavon Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Lee Flippo, whom she married April 1, 1953; a son, Gary Devoe Flippo, Hoxie; a daughter, Margo Broening, Cincinnati; three sisters, Patsy Hodge, Jonesboro, and Wilma Doyle and Maggie Sears, both of Walnut Ridge; a brother, Larry Jones, Chadwick, Ill.; and six grandchildren, Kera Flippo, Abbey Flippo, Megan Flippo, Alex Broening, Will Broening and Anna Broening.

Funeral was Sunday at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. Harold Russell officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Dick Jarboe, Michael Hodge, Dennis Flippo, Gary Sears, Bill Hodge and Randy Flippo. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Penn and Tom Sloan.
