Brown Johnson

Brown Johnson, 70, of North Little Rock died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Amanda Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Aretha Johnson; sons, Anthony of Benton, Larry of Dallas, Texas, and Brainard Johnson of Sherwood; daughters, Cynthia Gilmore and Donna Sneed both of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Vinoes of North Little Rock, and James Johnson of Little Rock; sisters, Smittie Johnson and Florine Johnson both of Little Rock and Alice Scott of Coco Beach, Fla.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at First Baptist. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home.

Arrangements by Premier Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Elizabeth Traffanstedt

Elizabeth Uekman Traffanstedt, 92, of North Little Rock died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006. She was a retired office manager for a local physician and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Magdalena Bierman Uekman; four brothers and eight sisters.

She is survived by her sister, Josephine Ferguson of Sherwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 19th and Maple, North Little Rock, AR 72114.

Blanche Ruth Pruitt

Blanche Ruth Pruitt, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006. She was retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation after holding positions in Little Rock and in Alexandria, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. James Lee Pruitt and Lela Vera Fisher Pruitt; brother, James Lee Pruitt Jr.; and sister, M. Nell Pruitt.

She is survived by nieces, nephews and sister-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood with the Rev. David Ashcroft officiating. Burial will be at Edgewood cemetery in Levy.

Verna Jewel Brown

Verna Jewel (Hays) Brown, 96, of Sherwood died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006.

She is survived by her daughters, Jimmie Lynn Hedin and husband Harold of Urbana, Ill., Georgia Whitley and husband Dwayne, Geneva Milam, and Beni Wilson and husband Louis of North Little Rock; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 7, in the Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel in North Little Rock. Interment was at the Egner cemetery in Salado.

Clauzelle Reynolds

Clauzelle Reynolds, 88, of Camden died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006. She retired after 35 years of teaching in the Fairview School District. She was a member of Cullendale Church of Christ and was active in the World Bible School Program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Langley and Ruth Copeland House; and brothers Copeland House and Lavon House.

Survivors include her son, Randy Reynolds and wife Beverly of De Queen; daughter, LaDonna Haff and husband Jerry of Jonesboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Audy Neal of Sherwood, and Geneva Tucker of Little Rock; and brother Wendell House of Delight.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 7, at Proctor Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Horeb cemetery. Arrangements by Proctor Funeral Home of Camden.

Brenda K. Hopper

Brenda Kay Hopper, 63, of Cabot died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006. She was a member of Levy Church of Christ in North Little Rock.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert L. Hopper of Cabot; son Jon Mark of Furlow; daughter Anita Kay Kotrlik of Las Vegas; mother Johnnie B. Cooper of Griffithville; sisters Phyllis VanWinkle of Rose Bud, Marilyn Neal of Sherwood, and Terri Parsons of Perry, Florida; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Levy Church of Christ, followed by graveside services at Dogwood cemetery south of Griffithville.

Arrangements were by the North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Clovis E. Cook

Clovis E. Cook, 65, of Sherwood died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Gary and Viola Evangeline (Hicks) Cook, brother Olen Cook, and sister Alice Manes.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Cook of Sherwood; brothers Bill Cook and wife Anita of Harrison, David Cook and wife Jane of Knoxville, Tenn., and Gary Cook of Woodward, Okla.; and sisters Doyce Lundsford and husband Luther of Calumet, Okla., and Loretta Russell of Moore, Okla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at the Roller-Daniel Funeral Home chapel, with interment following at White County Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.

Josephine Brooks

Josephine Brooks, 84, of Sherwood died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde Smith and Sadie Scales and brother William Jones.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years Homer Brooks; brother Thomas Rufus of Chicago, Ill.; sons Vincent of North Little Rock, Bruce of Little Rock, Lamont of Cheltenham, Md., and Phil Brooks of Sherwood; daughters Damita Casey and Cynthia Brooks of Sherwood; eight grandchildren; and special sons Henry James and Daryl Bassett.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, Sept. 1, 10 a.m., at St. Mark Baptist Church, 5800 W. 12th, Little Rock. Interment will be in the Arkansas State Veterans cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland, North Little Rock.

Family hour will be Thursday, Aug. 31, 7-8 p.m., Ruffin and Jarrett Chapel, 1200 Chester Street, Little Rock.

Wilburn Stedman

Wilburn Daniel “W.D.” Stedman, 84, of Fordyce died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a P.O.W. for 15 months in Europe, was proprietor of Stedman’s Grocery on Fordyce’s Southside for over 30 years, and was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; son Danny and wife Barbara of Sherwood; daughter Sheila Hornaday and husband Alan of Fordyce; mother Hazel Stedman of Warren; a brother, three sisters, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 28, at Temple Baptist Church in Fordyce. Burial was at Oakland cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice, 4014 Old Warren Road, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.

Arrangements were by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.

Harry E. Holt

Harry E. Holt, 75, of Jacksonville died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Naomi Holt.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Opal Holt of Jacksonville; sons Neil and Travis Holt, both of Jacksonville; brother Ross Holt and wife JoAnn of Jacksonville; sisters Sue DeLao of Sherwood, and Jane Brown and husband Jim of Jacksonville; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Bethel Methodist cemetery.

Debbie A. Hurley

Debbie Ann Hurley, 51, of Mayflower died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006. She was employed by Goodwill Industries of Conway where she served as manager.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolly Stewart Stricklin.

She is survived by her sons, Jay Hurley and fiancée LaRissa, and Brent Hurley and wife Melissa, all of Mayflower; father Frank Stricklin and wife Birdie; sisters Karen Odom of Texas, and Tina Stricklin of Sherwood; brother Michael Stricklin of Mayflower; and two grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 26, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.

Arrangements were by Roller McNutt Funeral Home of Conway.

Lorraine Rydel

Lorraine Mardell Rydel, of Sherwood, Ark., passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2006. Lorraine was born April 14, 1919, in Stratton, Neb., a daughter of the late Harry Desens and Gladys Falter Desens. Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid bowler and respected volunteer in our community and runner-up for the National Secretary of the Year while working in Chicago. She was a resident of Presbyterian Village in Little Rock, and was a member of Park Hill Presbyterian Church for over 40 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Eugene Rydel, her son Ronald E. Rydel Sr., and brother Bernard Desens.

Lorraine is survived by her son Mark Rydel (Carolyn) of Sherwood, sister-in-law, Phyllis Desens of Lincoln, Neb., grandchildren, Lorrie (Mike) Mathys, Ronald Rydel Jr., Shelly (Todd) Humphries, Summer Rydel, Angela (Gavin) Stewart, Jonathan Windham, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

The family requests no visitation.

Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at Park Hill Presbyterian Church, 3520 J.F.K. Blvd., North Little Rock, Ark. 72116, with Gordon Garlington III officiating the service. After the service, friends and family were invited to the home of Mark and Carolyn Rydel for a celebration of Lorraine Rydel’s life.

Arrangements are by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, Ark. 72117, (501) 835-3515.

Stanley Frost

Stanley Frost, 55, of Sherwood died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006.

He is survived by his son Malcolm Hodges; daughters Toni Frost and Stephanie Williams; and brother the Rev. Charles Frost Sr. and wife Evelyn.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 15, at the Hardy Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

Arrangements were by Hardy Funeral Home of Little Rock.

James Jones Jr.

James Boyd “J.B.” Jones Jr., 74, of Sherwood died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major and was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church in Sherwood.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Jones of Sherwood; son Dr. J.B. Jones III of Pine Bluff; and one granddaughter.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 15, at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock.

Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills in North Little Rock.

Margarette Landon

Margarette Ann Landon, 58, of Sherwood died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006. She was a member of McArthur Assembly of God in Jacksonville.

She is survived by her daughter, Ginger Moore and husband Jon of Sherwood; mother Edna Harris of Jacksonville; brothers John R. Harris and wife Jewell of North Little Rock, Charles Harris and wife Glenda of Flippin, and Bill Harris of Lisbon, Ohio; sister Helen Leder and husband Lester of Ulm; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 15, at the North Little Rock Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock.
Arrangements were by North Little Rock Funeral Home.
