Darlene Oots

Darlene Oots, age 76, of North Little Rock, died Sunday, June 13, 2004.
She was member of First Christian Church of Sherwood and was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, Church Women United, and the League of Women Voters.

She is survived by three sons: Kent of North Little Rock, Mark of Channahon, Ill., and Brent of Plainfield, Ill.; a brother, John of Joliet, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 18, at First Christian Church of Sherwood.

Roller-Owens funeral home is in charge.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation or to First Christian Church of Sherwood.

Gary Golden

Gary Golden of Aplin died June 12, 2004.

He was an Air Force Vietnam veteran, a retired equipment supervisor for Arkansas Highway Transportation Department.

Survivors include wife, Linda Jones Golden; son, Kevin Golden of Sherwood; daughters, Hannah Golden and Shana Purchase, of Aplin; father and mother, Hoyt and Carlene Golden of Little Rock; brother, Larry Golden of Little Rock; and sister, Caron Nanney of Florida.

Funeral was Tuesday, June 15, at Harris Chapel. Burial will be in Smyers cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made for stem cell research.
Arrangements by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Jimmy W. Johnson

Jimmy Wayne Johnson, 42, of North Little Rock died June 14, 2004. He worked in maintenance at Maybelline and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his son, Jeffery Blake Johnson of Conway; father, Billy Ray Johnsonof North Little Rock; mother, Betty Jo Johnson of Angleton, Texas; brother, Shane Johnson of Texas; sisters, Dianna Beverly of Texas, Dee Anne Johnson of Cabot, Melissa Loomis of Sherwood, Billy Araujo of Sherwood, and Tonya Powers of North Little Rock.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, Sherwood with Rev. Scott Harness officiating. Interment will be in Blue Springs cemetery in Newark.

Nealie Kelley

Nealie Kelley, 93, of North Little Rock died Tuesday, June 8. 2004. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Floyd.

She is survived by three daughters, Nell Elliott and Linda French of Sherwood; two sons, J. Kelley of Jacksonville and Richard Kelley of Tehachapi, Calif.; two sisters, Euna Clark of North Little Rock and Marie Carroll of Cabot; brother, Wallace Harrell of North Little Rock; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildlren.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice Center of North Little Rock, Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center 3H, North Little Rock, Ark. 72114 or a charity of your choice.

Funeral service was Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Floyd’s Old cemetery in Floyd.

Floyd Lavern Hogan

Floyd Lavern “Hogan” Hogan, 66, of Cabot, went to be with his Lord on June 17, 2004. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Cabot. He is preceded in death by his parents; Ed Hogan and Helen Pruitt; brother, Vaughn Ray Hogan; step-sister, Margaret Hatton.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Hogan; daughter, Sandy Laverne Overton of Steele, MO; step-daughter; Pam and Garry Roberts of Sherwood, AR; step-son, Rodney Brown of Little Rock; Brothers, Carl and Sammie Hogan of Troy, MO; Dick and Barbara Hogan of Columbus, GA; Gary and Barbara Hogan of Texas City, TX; Jim and Debbie Braden of Springfield, MO; sisters, Mary and Perry Camden of Oates, MO; Phyllis and Frankie Markem of Eldington, MO; Marcella and Jessie Miles of Clarkton, MO; grand-daughter, Vickie Overton; four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Friday, June 18 at Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services were held, Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 2 in the afternoon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Craig Friedl officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill cemetery. LaVerne Pryor Potts

LaVerne Pryor Potts, age 73, of Cabot, Arkansas, died Saturday, June 19, 2004. She was retired from First Tennessee Bank and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and lover of flowers.

LaVerne is survived by her husband, James E. Potts; one daughter, Deborah Faye Potts Gubala and son-in-law Paul Gubala of Memphis, Tennessee; one brother, Alton Pryor of Sherwood; two sisters, Sandra Webber of Des Arc and Marcella Tippit of Cabot; four grandchildren, Thomas Stanley Davis, III, Crystal Kimberly Davis, Nicole Banks and James Paul Potts; and two great-grandchildren, James Maverick Banks and Hunter Brayden Smith. She was preceded in death by her son, James Michael Potts.

Sharon R. Philbrook

Sharon R. Philbrook, 49, of North Little Rock, died June 16, 2004.

Her parents, Madeline Philbrook of Sherwood and Ralph Philbrook of DuVall, WA; two brothers, Stan Philbrook of San Antonio, TX and Don Philbrook of Sherwood; one sister, Marilyn Davis of Springfield, MO survive her.
Graveside services were Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Rest Hills Memorial Park with Deacon Bill Nolen officiating.

Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Bill Weaver

William “Bill” Wayne Weaver, 57, of Sherwood died June 18, 2004.
He was a master plumber and teacher. He was also a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; a daughter, Robyn Snoddy; two grandchildren; and seven sisters, Mollie Mercer of Guy, Jo Ann Burleson of Dodge City, Kan., Linda Knight of Little Rock, Donna Roberts of Jacksonville, Barbara Crowley, Rebecca Ritchie, and Terrie Lynn Weaver, all of North Little Rock.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Arkansas State Veteran’s cemetery on Maryland in North Little Rock.

Helen Mae Glover

Helen Mae Adcock Glover of Sherwood, died June 18, 2004, at the age of 88.
She was a Jehovah Witness.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Lynne Kirkpatrick; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were June 22, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home North Little Rock. Interment was in Concord cemetery in Furlow.

Sharon R. Philbrook

Sharon R. Philbrook, 49, of North Little Rock, died June 16, 2004.

Her parents, Madeline Philbrook of Sherwood and Ralph Philbrook of DuVall, Wash.; two brothers, Stan Philbrook of San Antonio and Don Philbrook of Sherwood; one sister, Marilyn Davis of Springfield, Mo., survive her.

Graveside services were June 19, at Rest Hills Memorial Park, North Little Rock. Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Dorothy Faye Lynch

Dorothy Faye Lynch, 74, of Mayflower, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004.
She was the widower of Louis Lynch. She received her Certificate in Master Gardening from Texas Tech.

Survivors are three children, Lonie Horton of Sherwood, Louis D. Lynch of North Little Rock, and Holly Lynch of Mayflower; a sister, Elsie Love of Aransas Pass, Texas; brother, John Smock of Waco, Texas; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great-children.

Bettye Humphrey

Bettye Ruth Humphrey, age 72, of Sherwood died Sunday, June 20, 2004.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Jacksonville and a volunteer at Baptist Medical Center in North Little Rock.

She is survived by two sons, Jim Moore and Wayne Moore of Little Rock; one daughter, Jackie Bolt of Mountain Home; one brother, Charles Taylor of Memphis Tenn.; one sister, Mary Lou Streitenberger; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild.

Funeral services were June 24, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway.

Lillie Simpson

Lillie Manning Simpson, 85, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004.

She was a charter member of First Assembly of God Church, North Little Rock.
Survivors include: four daughters: Betty Fortner of Vilonia, Wanda McCraw of Sherwood, Flora Smith of Sherwood and Linda Harness of Cabot; sisters, Bonnie Robinson of Lumberton, Texas, and Valrie Johnson of Beebe; nine grand-children; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice, Bldg. 66, Room 65, 2200 Fort Roots Drive, North Little Rock, Ark., 72114-1709.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 25 at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Edgewood cemetery.

Larry Wayne Cook

Larry Wayne Cook, age 48, of Vilonia, died June 23, 2004.

He was employed by Schindler Elevator Company and was the elevator service technician for UAMS. He was also a member of the Elevator Union Local 79. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Katy Payer Cook; his daughter, Samantha Colleen Roberts of Sherwood; a son, Matthew Clayton Cook, of Little Rock; his mother and stepfather, Sybil and Sonny Grady, of Little Rock; his father, Dan Cook, of Malvern; a brother, Gary L. Cook, of Little Rock; a stepbrother, Herman Grady Jr. III, of Little Rock; and a grandchild. Funeral services were June 28, at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Burial was at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Helen Malone Knopf

Helen Malone Knopf, 88, of Sherwood died June 29, 2004.

She was a member of the North Little Rock Eastern Star; a past President of the Arkansas Dieticians Association; served on the Steering Committee for the North Little Rock Cancer Unit; served as a volunteer at Jacksonville Rebsamen Memorial Medical Center. A celebration of her life was held Thursday, July 1. Interment was at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Lillie M. Simpson

Loyd Doyle Dyson of North Little Rock, died June 23, 2004. He is survived by one son, Larry Dyson; two daughters, Eddy Lois and Lisa; one sister, Esther Turney; and several grandchildren. Visitation was Saturday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Graveside service was Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Dunkard cemetery.

Shaun Lynn Sanders

Shaun Lynn Sanders, 24, of Sherwood died July 1, 2004.

Born Oct. 13, 1979 to Charles Sr. and Kathie Hilton Sanders, in Little Rock, he was a security officer and a Baptist.

Survivors are his wife, Stacie Scmidt Sanders; two daughters, Kassadi Sanders, Haley Kinslow, of Toledo, Ohio; parents, Charles Sr. and Kathie Sanders; brother, Charles Sanders Jr.; sister, LaCresia Calhoun, all of Jacksonville; grandfathers, Thomas Hilton Jr. of Sherwood, Donald Sanders and grandmother, Anna Sue Erman of North Little Rock.

Graveside services were July 5 at Fredonia cemetery in Judsonia, with Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob in charge.

Rosie Lee Handy

Rosie Lee Lewis Handy, 67, of Sweet Home, died July 4, 2004.

She was a retired Little Rock School District employee.

Survivors are her husband, Rev. George Handy Sr.; sons, Samuel Lewis Jr. of Germany, Alvin Lewis Sr. of Miss., Andre “Dre” Lewis of Sherwood, Patrick, Joe Handy, Little Rock, Curtis Handy and George Handy Jr., of Mo.; daughters, Rose Lewis Hall of Sherwood, Masako Christian of Bryant, Cassandra Randolph of Little Rock, Vivian Stallings of Higgins, Joyce Summerville and Curtistin Handy of Little Rock, Eva Martin of Mo., Delores Brown and Rosalind Handy of Mass., Teresa Handy of Ohio, Denise Handy of Va.; sister, Ida Bell Johnson of Ala.; brothers, Johnny Bennett of Ark. and Roosevelt Bennett of Calif.; a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren.

Funeral services: Friday, July 9, 2004, 11 a.m., at New Beginning Baptist Church, Woodson, Ark. Ruffin & Jarrett are in charge of arrangements. Interment, Arkansas State Veterans’ cemetery, North Little Rock.
