Jacqueline Magee

Tough, smart, feisty and a feminist long before there was a word for it, she lived life on her terms, packing a great deal of humor, vitality and intelligence into a small frame. She was a study in contrasts - tremendously tender-hearted, yet fierce when defending those she loved. An acute, hilarious, critical observer of the world, she was concerned with the small details, whether it was accessorizing, or fretting over whether the resident mockingbird at their home had seen his mate arrive in Spring. She worked, stayed home to raise her daughters and then returned to work at McDonnell Douglas until her retirement. She was a talented athlete, but no matter what, always immaculately groomed - lipstick worn at all times. She loved country and bluegrass music, and sang on the radio in Missouri before moving to Tulsa in the early 1950's. She raised two independent and successful daughters who carry her indomitable spirit (and her sharp wit). She was known to curse colorfully, black eyes flashing and until her last day she could speak volumes with those eyes alone. She was a force of nature - unstoppable, awe-inspiring and beautiful.

Jackie was a bit of an introvert, but one with absolute knock-down charm - just ask her husband. She met Owen Chandler Magee riding together to work at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa OK. He loved her at first sight but it took him a while to ask her out. Once he did that was it - they were married a few months later. For 57 years they did everything together - yin and yang, Hepburn and Tracy, true partners. He survives her.

She is also survived by: Daughters Shannon Magee and her partner Jim Wallace and Cindy (Magee) Studer and her husband Eric - all of Eureka Springs AR, sister Colleen (Hurst) Dewey and husband Frank, Wasilla, AK, brother Jerry Hurst, Celt, MO, sister-in-law Cloan (Magee) Mihura and husband Max, Oklahoma City, OK, sister-in-law Norma (Redus) Magee, Perkins, OK, 12 nieces and nephews, several great and great great nieces and nephews, her beloved cat Little Bit and last but certainly not least, honorary "Granddaughter" Kelsey Hoskins, her incredible caretaker for the last 6 months. She was pre-deceased by parents Earl and Bonnie Hurst, Celt, Mo, double cousin John Hurst and Wife Dee, Neosho, MO, brother-in-law, Dale Magee, Perkins, OK and an infant daughter.

As she requested, there will be a Memorial Service celebrating her life with food, drink and music. Please join family and friends at noon on May 5th, 2012 at the resort owned by her daughters in Eureka Springs, AR. Call The Retreat at Sky Ridge at 800-242-3128 or email celebrate@retreatatskyridge.com for more information.

In lieu of flowers, Jackie requested donations be made to the homeless dogs and cats at The Good Shepherd Humane Society in her name. Please call 479-253-9188 or send to Good Shepherd Humane Society, PO Box 285, Eureka Springs, AR 72632 and please note they are in memory of Jackie Magee.

Now on a new adventure she has already cleaned everything til it shines, adopted many cats and dogs, put on some lipstick and set off on a drive - just to see what's out there.
