Ruby Lee Nash

April 22, 1922 - December 10, 2009

Ruby Lee Nash, 87 of Smackover, AR, departed this life on Thursday, December 10, 2009, to stand in the light of our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Miss Ruby was born on April 22, 1922 in Norphlet, AR; the daughter of Thomas A. and Susie Elizabeth Brown Bates.

During World War II, she worked at Mc Millian Refinery.

She was also a charter member of the United Pentecostal Church of Norphlet.

Miss Ruby was a very giving and caring lady.

If you gave her a gift, she was already thinking about who needed it more than she did.

She was very protective of her children and grandchildren.

When it came to them, she would fight a circle saw.

Miss Ruby will live on through her family for it has been said that as long as we are remembered, we will never die.

Miss Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers George and Newton Bates, a son David Bates, a grandson Aaron Mark Slayter, and a great grandson Christian Shofner.

Survivors are her husband of 45 years Morris Catfish Nash, daughters Mary Ann Peace, Joanie Orren and husband Danny all of Smackover, Elizabeth Slayter and husband Buster of Crossett, a daughter in law Jimmie Lou Bates of El Dorado, brother Jimmy Bates of Texarkana, sisters Frances Langley of El Dorado, Margaret Nordmeyer of Camden, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 6 great great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 in the chapel of Bailey Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Smith and Rev. Joel Slayter officiating.

Interment will follow at Rehobeth Cemetery on Hwy 335.

Memorial may be made to Lifetouch Hospices John R. Williamson House, 2301 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, AR 71730.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Mary Bourn Downs

July 20, 1927 - November 28, 2012

Mary Bourn Downs, age 85, of Magnolia, AR passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Magnolia Health and Rehab.

She was born July 20, 1927 in Shongaloo, LA to James and Verda Mae (McDonald) Bourn.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star for 50yrs.

She was a retired bookkeeper. Mary and JP loved to travel and would often take their nieces and nephews along with them.

Mary’s favorite destination was Branson, MO where she would go several times a year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J.P. Downs, Jr., three brothers and two sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Frances Murphy of McNeil, AR; three sisters in law, Mary Jane Bourn of El Dorado, AR; Judy Bourn of Brownfield, TX; Wyvonne Bourn of Haughton, LA; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

Graveside services will be at 2:00pm Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Memorial Park Cemetery with Bro. Steve Ford officiating under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to a little church Mary and JP loved, College Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1737, Magnolia, AR 71753

William "Bill" Nelson

July 14, 1927 - October 3, 2012

William “Bill” Nelson, age 85 of Junction City, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas following a brief illness.

He was born on July 14, 1927 in Bernice, LA to the late Oakes and Ula (Pilgreen) Nelson.

Bill first attended Hendrix College in Conway, AR for two years before transferring to Louisiana Tech in Ruston to finish his degree.

Bill was obviously very determined to get his education because he had to hitchhike back and forth from Junction to college.

His determination ultimately obtained him a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Business Administration.

Bill was the owner and operator of Nelsons Exxon, a full service station in Junction City.

He retired after forty plus years in the business.

Bill also was the caretaker and overseer of the Roselawn Cemetery for more than thirty years.

He was a former member of the Junction City Volunteer Fire Dept where he served for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Junction City.

Bill loved being outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing or tending to his vegetable garden.

Bill was one of the most determined people around and always stayed going strong even with all his health problems.

In later years, Bill and Rita enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center in Junction City on a daily basis, eating meals and talking to all their friends.

Bill also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marilyn Blackmon Nelson; one brother, Bobby Nelson and one step son Master Peace.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rita Nelson; one daughter, Dr. Susan Nelson; two sisters, Peggy Williams and Patsy Owens and husband Glen, all of Junction City; two step daughters, Lydia Peace Hall of Spring, TX and Jo Ann Thurmon of Junction City; one step son, Conrad Peace also of Junction City.

Also, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday October 5, 2012 at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City with Bro. Milton Wilson officiating, assisted by Bro. Claude Patterson and Bro. Don Ossmon.

Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Junction City.

The family wishes to say a special thank you to Dr. C.D. Williams and nurse, Lori Holder for all their compassionate care to Bill during all of his illnesses.

Also, a special thanks to all whom helped Mr. Bill at the Senior Citizen Center.

Memorials may be made to the Roselawn cemetery fund in Memory of Bill Nelson. P.o. box 837 Junction City, AR 71749.

Gerald B. "Jake" Jacobs

December 19, 1926 - October 31, 2011

Gerald B. Jake Jacobs, 84 of El Dorado, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas following a brief illness.

Born December 19, 1926 in El Dorado he was the son of Bufford D. and Bertha Webb Jacobs.

Jake was the former of owner of the Four Six Service Station and the El Dorado Spur Station and later was a part time employee of Laneys Body Shop.

He was member of Union Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death along with his parents, were his wife, Lucille Jacobs, and a sister Billie Jean Mosby.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat Garrett (Jimmy) of Blue Springs, MO and Carolyn White (Richard) of El Dorado, two brothers, Johnny Jacobs of Crossett and Beryl Jacobs of Hot Springs, and a sister Pam Aubrey of Emerson, AR.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Angela Moore (Keith) of El Dorado, Ryan Garrett (Cass) of North Liberty, Iowa, Richie White (Carrie) of Alexander, AR, Danny White of El Dorado and Megan Garrett of Blue Springs, MO and seven great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Whitney Pettit of El Dorado, Damien, Spencer and Keaton Garrett of North Liberty, Iowa, Sydney White and Evan White of Alexander, AR.

Funeral services will at held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P. M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
