Johnny Carlton Bass
March 23, 1935 - June 04, 2004

Johnny Carlton Bass, age 69, of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday evening, June 4, 2004, at his home after an extended illness.
Johnny was born March 23, 1935, a son of the late Morris and Esther Martin Bass in Camden, AR. He grew up in and was educated in Camden where he attended Fairview High. Johnny joined the U. S. Army while finishing school and served in Japan; On his arrival stateside, he courted and married Patsy "Pat" Chambliss on June 2, 1958 in Grant County, AR. Mr. Bass started working for the International Paper Company in Camden but was transferred to Pine Bluff, in 1959, where he worked in the finishing and shipping department. In 1970, he returned to the University of Arkansas in Monticello and graduated in 1973, with a degree in Accounting. He then joined the Health Care Facility and Hospital Company and worked as business manager in Little Rock, Camden and finally Pine Bluff at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He retired in 1994 from JRMC. He attended the First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff.
Mr. Bass is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat; one son, Jason Bass of Maumelle; a daughter, Pamela and her husband Scott Givens of White Hall; two brothers, Charles Bass of Camden and Billy Bass of Little Rock; and two grandchildren, Carl John and Laura Cearley.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Carlton Bass, II; and a daughter, Janet Ellen Bass.
Graveside services will be held Monday, June 7, 2004, at 2:00 PM, at Salem Cemetery, Bearden, Arkansas, with the Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Louie Dean Bridgeman, Sr.
November 13, 1934 - June 06, 2004

Louie Dean Bridgeman, Sr., 69, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his home.
He was born November 13, 1934 in Brasfield, Arkansas, a son of the late William P. Bridgeman and Ida Roberts Bridgeman.
Mr. Bridgeman was reared and received his early education in Star City. He left school to join the Navy, serving in the Korean War. After the Navy, Mr. Bridgeman went back to school to get his GED.
Louie Bridgeman married Ellen Ruth Cooper on August 24, 1957 in Greenville, Mississippi. Mr. Bridgeman worked at International Paper for 25 years and held a membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Bridgeman had a great love for flying. He kept his pilot's license active for many years and loved flying small, private planes.
Louie Bridgeman was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth Bridgeman, and sister, Aline Tate.
His survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Parrish of Bryant, Arkansas; son, Louie Dean Bridgeman, Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and a loving companion, Veta Green of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Roselawn Cemetery with the Reverend Bud Reeves officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 PM at Robinson's.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Health Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.

Thomas A. Anderson
July 24, 1920 - June 06, 2004

Thomas A. Anderson, age 83, of Pine Bluff, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 6, 2004, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Thomas was born July 24, 1920, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, a son of the late Curtis and Eunia Hughes Anderson. His family moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas where he was reared and educated. While attending Stuttgart High School, he was an all star sports participant, basketball and football, and sang in the choir and in a local quartet. Thomas married Lena Parker, sixty-one years ago, on October 8, 1942, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He joined the U. S. Army on December 7, 1942, and served in the European theatre. When he returned stateside, he became self employed as a cabinet maker, and general contractor. Later he worked at Cummins Prison during construction. Thomas then joined the Pines Vocational Technical College ( Seark College) teaching woodworking and cabinet making.. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the many children he loved and was a member of the Sheridan lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and the York Rite Association of Arkansas. Thomas was also a member of the Forest Park Baptist Church and the Job's Sunday School Class of Forest Park Baptist. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed wood carving.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Lena; one daughter, Jacque and her husband Jimmy Woolems of Pine Bluff; one brother, Bobby Anderson of Sedalia, Missouri; one sister, Minnie Leder of Oak Grove, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Shana Lusinger and Katie Woolems and one great-grandson, Parker.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, June 10, 2004, at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Pfenenger officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery, Stuttgart, AR.
Memorials may be made to: The Forrest Park Baptist Church, 3706 Cherry, Pine Bluff, AR 71603; Seabrook YMCA, P.O. Box 5696, Pine Bluff, AR 71611.

Argie Lee Roberts Calhoun
March 08, 1917 - June 13, 2004

Argie Lee Roberts Calhoun, 87, of Star City, Arkansas, died Sunday, June 13, 2004, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Calhoun was born March 8, 1917, in Star City, Arkansas, to the late Clifton and Carrie Oates Roberts. She was reared and received her education in Star City. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1948.
She married James R. Calhoun on November 30, 1935 in Star City. He passed away February 24, 1967.
Mrs. Calhoun was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Jefferson Regional Medical Center for 26 years, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Commerce Road Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Calhoun is survived by James L. and Kathy Calhoun of Las Vegas, Nevada; Myron Ray "Bud" and Barbara Calhoun of Star City, Arkansas; and Carolyn and Bruce Lewis of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Roberts of Yorktown, Arkansas; two sisters, Myrtis Bond of Houston, Texas; Mary Frances Vassaur of Madera, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Margie Dickey, and Geneva Muckleroy.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 6-8 PM, at Robinson's.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 10:00 AM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Boyce Garlington officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Yorktown.
The family has asked that memorials take the form of contributions to Commerce Road Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8805, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71611-8805, or Jefferson Regional Medical Center Hospice, 1515 West 42nd, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.

Albert Arnold Aubrey Craig
March 26, 1907 - June 15, 2004

Albert Arnold Aubrey Craig, 97, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born March 26, 1907, in Brummett, Arkansas to the late Andrew Lee and Julia Ann Frizzell Craig.
He was reared and received his education in Brummett.
Mr. Craig married the former Irene Ray on July 10, 1929, at Stuttgart. He moved to White Hall in 1974.
Mr. Craig was a journeyman plumber and a mason.
He was a member of White Hall First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Ray Craig; two sons, Marion and Walter Craig; three brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include four sons, Jimmie Lee Craig of Belmont, Louisiana, John G. Craig of Anaheim, California, Arnold R. Craig of Greenbrier, Arkansas, David D. Craig of Santa Rosa, California; brother, Mira Craig of Springhill, Louisiana; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2:00 PM, Friday, June 18, 2004, Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family ask that memorials be made to First Baptist Church in White Hall, P. O. Box 20307, White Hall, Arkansas 71612-0307.

Bertha Helen Culpepper
September 11, 1907 - June 19, 2004

Bertha Helen Culpepper, 96, of Pine Bluff died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Trinity Village Medical Center. She was born September 11, 1907, in New York, New York, to the late Ignatius and Bertha Dvorak Hornak.
She was reared and educated in Meadville, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the Allegheny College at Meadville.
She moved to Pine Bluff in 1929, where she taught school at Sherrill and St. Joseph's Annunciation Academy.
Mrs. Culpepper married John Wesley Culpepper, Sr., on November 11, 1930 at Pine Bluff.
She was a loving mother and a homemaker.
Mrs. Culpepper was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society.
Survivors include her son, John Wesley "Jack" Culpepper, Jr., of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Culpepper, Sr.; a daughter, Kay Francis Culpepper; a brother, Robert Hornak; a grandson, Michael Timothy Culpepper; and two step-great-grandchildren, Clark Hastings III, and Cory Mize.
A rosary service will be held Monday, June 21, 2004, at 6:00 PM, at Ralph Robinson and Son.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Reverend Monsignor Jack Harris officiating.
Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son.

James S. Crow
September 21, 1936 - June 26, 2004

Mr. James S. Crow, age 67, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. He was born September 21, 1936, in Bastrop, Louisiana, a son of the late James Burrough and Laura Gray Crow.
Mr. Crow was reared and educated in Vidila, Louisiana, graduating from Vidilia High School. In the early 1950's, he joined the U S Navy.
After serving in the Navy, he began working for International Paper Company in Natchez, Mississippi and later transfered to Pine Bluff where he retired as Bleach Plant Operator after thirty-one years of service.
Mr. Crow was a member and Past Master of both Jacob Brump Lodge #160 in Pine Bluff and Robert E. Lee Lodge #313 in Altheimer, a member of Pine Bluff Lodge #69, The Sahara Shrine Temple, the York Rite, the Scottish Rite, the English Council and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Crow is survived by his wife, Hazel Lofton Crow, who he married July 14, 1955, in Ferriday, Louisiana, one son, James S. Crow, Jr. of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Jan Jennings of Purcell, Oklahoma, Van Callahan of Pine Bluff; one brother, Richard Crow of Merridian, Mississippi; one sister, Patricia Willhite of Alto, Texas; four grandchildren, Thomas James Crow, Tiffany Jackson, Crystal Crow, Ashley Welch and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with Reverend Howard Loetscher officiating. Interment will be in Christ Church Cemetery in Bastrop, Louisiana with Masonic services at 4:00 PM.

Richard Gordon Ashcraft
October 20, 1936 - June 27, 2004

Richard Gordon Ashcraft, 67, of White Hall, died late Sunday evening, June 27, 2004, at his home.
He was born on October 20, 1936 in Cullman, Alabama to the late John Richard Ashcraft and Nathilee DuVall Ashcraft.
Mr. Ashcraft was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. After high school, he joined the Pine Bluff Police Department, where he served 23 years on the force. Mr. Ashcraft served 10 years as a security guard for the Pine Bluff School District following his retirement.
Richard Ashcraft married Betty Butcalis Hawkins on October 31, 1971 at First Christian Church in Pine Bluff. Mr. and Mrs. Ashcraft have remained members of First Christian Church since their marriage.
Mr. Ashcraft had a great love for the outdoors, including coon hunting, deer hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ricky Gordon Ashcraft.
Mr. Ashcraft is survived by his wife, Betty Ashcraft of White Hall; son, Joey Richard Ashcraft of White Hall; step-son, Chip Brian Hawkins of White Hall; sister, Marylyn Williams of Pine Bluff; granddaughter, Monica Ashcraft of White Hall and two step-grandsons, Dustin and Drew Hawkins of White Hall.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 10:30 AM at Ebenezer Cemetery in Tull, Arkansas with Dr. John Ashcraft officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Betty Ashcraft, 1406 Mockingbird Dr. in White Hall, Arkansas.
