Billy DeWayne Hamilton
February 15, 1930 - June 12, 2009
Billy DeWayne Hamilton, 79, of Little Rock, Arkansas, a long time resident of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock.
Born February 15, 1930, in Bearden, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Dewell Tracy and Erin Jeanette Blakely Hamilton. He was reared and received his education in Camden, Arkansas, graduating high school in 1948.
As a young man, Billy worked for Hurley Printing Company, Proctor Funeral Home and Mathis Funeral Home. In 1950, after marrying Frances Mitchell, together they moved to Natchez, Mississippi, where he worked for International Paper Company. He transferred with International Paper to Pine Bluff in 1958, where he worked as an Analytical Chemist for 42 years, retiring in 1992. During his retirement he worked part time for Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home, where he enjoyed 10 years with them.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff, serving as a deacon and on the Sound Committee, as well as the Helping Hands Committee. After moving to Little Rock, he became a member of Oak Park Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Harry Eugene Hamilton, who died during childhood.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Frances Mitchell Hamilton, of Little Rock; his son, Charles DeWayne Hamilton and his wife Gretchen, of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa, Ryan and Eric; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hortense Young and husband Sim, of Daisy, Arkansas and Gwendolyn Miller and husband Joe, of North Little Rock, Arkansas; four nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 14, 2009 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Robinson's. Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, June 15, 2009 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend David Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. E. K. "Ernest" Carrington
July 28, 1916 - June 13, 2009
Ernest Carrington (E.K.) President (retired) of Carrington Electric Company, Inc. died June 13, 2009, at Trinity Village Medical Center.
E. K. was the second of four children born to the late J. D. and Beauna Carrington. He was born July 28, 1916 in Star City. E. K. was raised in the Star City community and graduated from Star City High School. Growing up, he was involved in the family farming business. As a young man, he joined the Federal Civil Service Commission, traveling to Idaho to fight forest fires and to learn the art of cabinet making.
On June 21, 1941, E. K. married his childhood sweetheart Gladys Logue of Star City. He joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1942. E.K. and Gladys traveled the United States in various Army training adventures. E. K. was assigned to the South Pacific during WWII. He was trained and certified as an armament turret technician. He was a Staff Sargeant responsible for aircraft armament repair crews.
Returning to public life after WWII, in 1956, E. K. and Gladys founded Carrington Electric Company, a full service electrical contractor serving the State of Arkansas. Gladys was the bookkeeper for the business until her retirement. E. K. was actively involved in the electrical contracting business far beyond the traditional retirement age.
E. K. was predeceased by his parents, brother, Duffie, sisters, Grace and Euna Mae, and his beloved wife of 67 years, Gladys ( May 2008).
E. K. is survived by his sons, Ed Carrington and his wife Mary Ann of Pine Bluff, and Jerry Carrington of Rison; grandchildren, Jerry W. Carrington, Jr. Of Omaha, Nebraska and Jennifer Carrington Perez of Russellville, Arkansas.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 10:00 AM, at Butler-Pleasant Hill Cemetery
in Star City with Reverend Steve Tiner officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
The family will be at the home of Ed and Mary Ann Carrington, 7438 Cross Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
Edith Loraine Ellis Walton
January 4, 1926 - June 13, 2009
Edith Loraine Ellis Walton, 83, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Davis Life Care Center.
Born January 4, 1926 at Tyler, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Jarrell Ellis and Lillian Hicks Ellis.
Mrs. Walton graduated from high school and business college in Tyler, Texas.
She worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad for a number of years.
Mrs. Walton was a member of First Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Hope Chestnut; and one brother, James Wade Ellis.
Survivors include her husband, James Milton Walton, whom she married February 19, 1948 in Tyler; daughter, Patricia Ann Anderson and her husband, Kris of North Little Rock; and three granddaughters, Kari Loraine Anderson Hill, Erika Kristine Anderson Easley and Kristina Michelle Anderson.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Bellwood Annex Cemetery
with Reverend Matt Norton officiating. Arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
The family will be at home.

Lena Jackie Holland (Smithson)
April 30, 1920 - June 14, 2009
Lena Jackie Smithson Holland, age 89, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Holland was born April 30, 1920, in the Crossroads Community of Grant County. She was the daughter of the late Richard Thomas and Lorena Camp Smithson.
She was reared and educated in the Sheridan and Grant County area.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff where she worked in Sunday School department as the department secretary for thirty five years. She retired from the F. W. Woolworth Company in 1979, after twenty years of service.
Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Otis D. Holland, whom she married June 17, 1939, in Sheridan; two sisters, Sarah Haddock, Tommy Fikes; a great-granddaughter and a step great-grandson.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judy Holland of Texarkana, Arkansas and Perry and Karol Holland of White Hall; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Matt Norton and Reverend James Watson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Robinson’s Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Thankful Ann "Tankie" McFall (May)
May 7, 1934 - June 15, 2009
Thankful Ann "Tankie" McFall, 75, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, June 15, at White Hall Nursing Center. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on May 7, 1934, the daughter of the late Guy Noel "Buddy" May and Louise Scott May, she received her early education in Pine Bluff. She was a 1952 Pine Bluff High School graduate where she was a cheerleader. She attended the University of Mississippi at Oxford.
She married her high school sweetheart, James Thomas McFall, on June 20, 1953. Mr. McFall died November 18, 1989.
Tankie was active in the community serving on the boards of Teen Town, Inc. and Jenkin's Memorial Center. She was a member of the Junior League of Pine Bluff and its predecessor, Pine Bluff Junior Auxiliary. From the early 1960s through the early 1970s Tankie taught ballroom dancing to fifth and sixth grade students in Pine Bluff and was the executive director of Junior Cotillion. She was also a member of the Junior Sesame Club.
Tankie's professional career included working for the marketing departments of Simmons First National Bank, National Bank of Commerce, Worthen National Bank of Pine Bluff, and Pine Bluff National Bank. She was also the former volunteer coordinator for the Hospice program of Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Tankie was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a former member of its Vestry and a member of The Daughters of the King.
Survivors include three sons, James T. McFall, Jr. (Pam) of White Hall, Terrell S. McFall (Debbie) of Fayetteville, and Noel W. "Buddy" McFall of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren, Lindsey Childers (Drew) of Fayetteville, Brittainy Williamson (Mark) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Laurie McFall of Kansas City, Missouri, Jay McFall of White Hall, Scott McFall of Fayetteville; two great-grandchildren, Charley Drew Childers of Fayetteville, Marah Noel Williamson of Scottsdale; one brother, the Reverend Charles Scott May of Atlanta, Georgia; and her aunt, Virginia M. Crenshaw of White Hall.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery
by Ralph Robinson & Son. The family will greet friends at Trinity Church from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

C. Elizabeth "Beth" Webber
July 11, 1968 - June 16, 2009
Beth Webber, loving mother of Matthew, Brent, Ryan, and Amber Jo, devoted wife to John, and beloved daughter of Barbara Smith, lived a life of service to others. Her passions were family, faith, and service to community.
Beth’s children had their mother’s love and unwavering support. She faithfully attended events involving her children, and encouraged other children and families in the community as well. Prior to moving to White Hall, she served on the Ursa Major Elementary School PTA and on the Alaska State PTA Board. She continued to serve in White Hall by working with the Moody Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), White Hall Junior High PTO, and was instrumental in starting a PTO at White Hall High School where she was acting president. When Beth saw a need, she didn’t just offer suggestions—she acted to provide solutions.
As a member of White Hall United Methodist Church, Beth is remembered as a woman devoted to children. Each Sunday, Beth and her helpers, often her own children, brought little ones from the nursery to hear the children’s sermon. She had a tender place in her heart for special needs children. Beth served as nursery director, worked with Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Administrative Council, Circle of Faith, and Adele Phillips Circle, and served as treasurer for the United Methodist Women. Beth received the UMW Lifetime Membership Award signifying outstanding leadership and service to the church.
The Army brought John and Beth’s family to White Hall in July, 2002, after serving in Alaska for seven years. Beth’s devotion to community and country was manifested through her leadership of Army Family Support Groups for 
military Spouses. While in Alaska, Beth was honored as an Army Wife when she was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for Fort Richardson. She co-founded the White Hall Ruritan Club and supported the White Hall Booster Club. Beth raised funds for Taylor Elementary, Moody Elementary, and White Hall United Methodist Church through book fairs. If a child was unable to purchase a book, Beth found a way to provide it. Beth continues to share her love of life with others through the donation of her organs. As always, Beth led by example. Friends frequently commented, "When I’m with Beth, she makes me a better me."
If you wanted a good chuckle, sound advice, a definitive plan of action, or a job done right, Beth Webber was the woman to see. Beth didn’t work so that a long line of credits would follow her name—she gave from the heart. Beth embraced life passionately and with conviction. No wife, mother, daughter, or friend has loved greater or worked harder to support her family and friends. If Beth knew of a need, she met it. Her uncanny ability to juggle family, job, church, and community and make it look effortless is a tribute to her selflessness and organization. She embodied love and strength. While Beth leaves a huge void in our lives, she will forever be a resident of our hearts.
Carol Elizabeth (Beth) Webber, 40 (July 11, 1968-June 16, 2009), was born in Front Royal, Virginia, to Clyde J. Weary of Front Royal, and Barbara S. Smith of White Hall, Arkansas, formerly of Clear Brook, Virginia. Beth graduated from James Wood High School, Winchester, Virginia, in 1986, and attended the University of Alaska. She married John W. Webber on December 20, 1986, in Clear Brook, Virginia. Beth is survived by her husband, John, their children, Matthew Fell Thomas, Brent Allan, Ryan Michael, Amber Jo Elizabeth, and her parents.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 19th, at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home in Pine Bluff. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 20th, 2009 at White Hall United Methodist Church. The family requests that memorials be made to the music department’s organ fund of White Hall United Methodist Church, 300 Church Drive, White Hall, Arkansas 71602.
Reverend Gary Akers
May 6, 1962 - June 18, 2009
Reverend Gary Allen Akers was born in Little Rock Arkansas on May 6, 1962 and his homecoming was June 18, 2009. He was born to the late Wesley E. Akers and Linda Jo Akers of Bryant, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Akers of 27 years, and three sons Joshua, Caleb, and Seth and, daughter-in-law, Laura Akers of White Hall. Also a brother, Mark, from Sardis, AR, and a sister Nicki, from Bryant, Arkansas. He graduated from Bryant High School in 1980. He received an A.A. degree in Religious Studies from Southern Baptist College (now Williams Baptist College) in 1982. He received a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries from Ouachita Baptist University in 1984. He received a Master of Divinity Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary from Fort Worth Texas in May 2000. He was continuing his Doctorate at the present time. He was a Southern Baptist Minister for 30 years. He served in various churches in Arkansas and his longest tenure was at Central Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. He served on the Executive Board of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. He was President of the Ministerial Alliance in White Hall. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, at Central Baptist Church, with Doctor Clay Hallmark officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery, in Bryant, at 1:30 P.M., by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, 5-8 PM at Central Baptist Church

James W. Akins
June 26, 1951 - June 18, 2009
James W. Akins, 57, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at his home in Pine Bluff.
Born June 26, 1951, in Mt. Ida, he was a son of James Clifford and Rhoda Lizzie Stigall Akins.
James was reared and received his early education in Benton. He worked as a construction superintendent for Smithwick Construction and Real Estate, Inc. for over thirty years. James was a regular attendee of Cherrywood Assembly of God Church in Redfield.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia Akins of Pine Bluff; one sister, Nada Adams of Mansfield, Texas; daughter, Kelly Bullard of Redfield; son, Keith Brown of San Antonio, Texas; three grandsons, Michael Marini of Redfield, Dustin Bullard and Zachary Bullard of Redfield; one grandaughter, Ashleigh Brown of San Antonio; great-grandson, Weston Marini of Redfield; two stepsons, Bernard Reams and Andre Williams of Pine Bluff; five step-grandchildren, Shakel Dudley, Kathy Landley, Eniya Hernandez, Emmaree Ewing, and Isabella Hernandez of Missouri.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Cherrywood Assembly of God Church with Reverend Glen Flemmons officiating and under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Burial will be at a later date.
Helen Virginia "Ms. Helen" Bates
March 14, 1926 - June 21, 2009
Helen Virginia "Ms. Helen" Boyt Bates, 83, of Pine Bluff, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 at home.
She was born March 14, 1926 in Dexter, Arkansas, daughter of Arnold and Grace Mae Gargus Boyt.
Mrs. Bates was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Watson Chapel High School.
She worked for several businesses in Pine Bluff including Sunshine Day Care and Wesley Day Care, where she looked forward to working with her 2 year-olds.
Mrs. Bates enjoyed her flowers and working in the yard. She also loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dempsey "Bill" Boyt; and a half-brother, Charles L. Saint.
Survivors include her husband, Charles N. Bates, whom she married May 29, 1956 in Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Virginia Harris and her husband, Stan of Idabel, Oklahoma; sister, A.E. Smith of Pine Bluff; three grandchildren, Kerrie Bieber and husband, Perry, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, Kevin Harris and wife, Jamie of Owasso, Oklahoma and Kyle Harris and wife, Ita of Carrollton, Texas; twelve great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins; and caregiver, Dorothy Wrinkle of Pine Bluff.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jim Harrell officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson's.
