Robert Pearson
Robert Michael Pearson, 44, of Alma died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at a local hospital. He was a sales agent for Farm Bureau Insurance in Crawford County, member of the Alma United Methodist Church, 1977 graduate of McGehee High School and a graduate of the University of Arkansas Monticello and Delta State University, where he obtained his master’s degree. He was the head varsity football coach at McGehee from 1987 to 1995 and led the McGehee Owls to state championships in 1988 and 1989.
Graveside service was held June 1 at McGehee Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home of McGehee.
He is survived by his wife, Kristie; one daughter, Reanna of Alma; one son, Kenneth Pearson of Alma; two stepdaughters, Jamie and Haley Ellis, both of Alma; his mother, Linda Pearson Roper of El Dorado; and one brother, Kenneth Pearson of North Little Rock.

Ralph Gordon
Ralph H. Gordon, 76, of Van Buren died Friday, May 28, 2004, in his home.
There will be no service. Cremation under the direction of Ocker Funeral home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; a sister, Jean Blackwell of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a brother, Jeff Gordon of Tampa, Fla.

Steve Tedder
Stephen “Steve” Henry Tedder, 51, of Rudy died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Kenner, La.
Survivors include his fiancee, Karen Brodie of Kenner, La.; two sons, Thomas Tedder and Adam Tedder, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three brothers, Billy Tedder of Rudy, Ricky Tedder of Alexandria, La., and James Tedder of Dedias, Texas.
Graveside service was held June 1 at Mount McCurry Cemetery near Rudy under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Minnie Downs
Minnie Howell Downs, 95, of Spiro, formerly of Crawford County, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a retired manager of David’s Pie Shop in Fort Smith and the widow of G.W. Downs.
Survivors include one daughter, June Ramsey of Van Buren; one son, Dale Downs of Spiro; three sisters, Ruth Smith of Fresno, Calif., Rue Jones of Van Buren and Cecil Scott of Clovis, Calif.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held June 2 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Sara Grove Cemetery in the Figure Five Community.

Abygail Rhodes
Abygail Olivia Scott Rhodes, infant daughter of Jessica Scott and Jeremy Rhodes of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at her home.
Graveside service was held May 29 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Kearagan Rhodes of Fort Smith; maternal grandparents, Marianne Steinbock of Fort Smith and Randy Scott of Tucson, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Glenda Nunn and Charles Nunn, both of Fort Smith; maternal great-grandparents, Bea and Donald Scott of Bakersfield, Calif.; and paternal great-grandparents, Deana Scott of Pocola and Rex Scott of Muldrow.

Kenneth Murphy
Kenneth R. Murphy, 56, of Van Buren died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in a local hospital. He was an employee of Galloway Tire Co.
No service is planned at this time. Cremation will be under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; a daughter, Karen Chitwood of Van Buren; a son, Danny Murphy of Fort Smith; a brother, Roy Murphy of Ozark; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kenneth R. Murphy Memorial Fund, c/o Ocker Funeral Home. P.O. Box 5620, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Hilda Watkins
Hilda Jean Watkins, 79, of Van Buren went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 28, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt. She had numerous friends she enjoyed so much. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Van Buren Garden Gate Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Eugene Watkins.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Sparkman and her husband Darral of Van Buren; two sisters, Myra Rowe and Meryle Riggs, both of Van Buren; one brother, Jerry Williams and his wife Donna of Van Buren; one granddaughter, Tiffiny Marshall and her husband Heath of Van Buren; one great-grandchild, Case Eugene Marshall of Van Buren; and several nieces and nephews.
Fuenral service was held June 1 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Gary Watkins, Terry Watkins, Mickey Watkins, Travis Watkins, Jay Williams and Terry Cockrum. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Red Hat Society and Van Buren Garden Gate Club.

Devien Russell
Devien Shannon Russell, 4, of Van Buren died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Van Buren. He attended the Elite Academy in Van Buren preschool.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at Woods Cemetery near Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Tonya McConathy Russell of Van Buren; two brothers, Robert Russell of the home and Tray Brakeman of Alabama; paternal grandfather, Gene Russell of Van Buren; an aunt, Cornelia Spillman of Dallas; three uncles, Roy McConathy of Augusta, Kan., Kyle McConathy of Mountainburg and Wallace Russell of Fort Smith; a great-aunt, Bea Gilbreth of Mountainburg; and two cousins, Ginger and Sara Russell, both of Fort Smith.

Classye Crofford
Classye Ingram Crofford, 96, of Alma died Friday, July 23, 2004, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, active member in the Order of Eastern Star in California and widow of John Crofford.
Graveside service was held July 26 at Woody Cemetery in Rudy under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Gwen Giblin of California; two sisters, Opal Christian of Van Buren and Wilma Barton of Dayton community; and one stepgrandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alma Health & Rehab Employee Fund, 401 Heather Lane, Alma, AR 72921.

Vernon Lane
Vernon D. Lane, 36, of Mulberry died Friday, July 23, 2004, at a local hospital. He was a truck driver for Reddy Ice in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda; two sons, Mark and Levi Lane, both of the home; his parents, Betty Wiggins of Mulberry and Peter Lane of Mountainburg; two sisters, Tammy Phelps of West Fork and Erin Lane of Mountainburg; a brother, Chris Lane of Mountainburg; paternal grandmother, Irene Lane of Mountainburg; maternal grandparents, Melba and Douglas Sills of Alma; and maternal great-grandmother, Agatha Davis of Chester.
Graveside service was held July 26 at Freedom Cemetery near Chester under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Harold Donahue, Mark Boyd, Rick Barnes, Ricky Ray and Jamie and Larry Blevins.

Maxine Stewart
Maxine Stewart, 64, of Mulberry died Friday, July 23, 2004, at a Fort Smith hospital. She was a member of Fort Smith First Baptist Church.
Funeral service was held July 26 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Rankin Cemetery in Franklin County.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Stewart of Mulberry; four sons, Danny Stewart of Mountainburg, Randy Stewart of Seattle, Richard Stewart of Ozark and Jeremy Stewart of Mulberry; a sister, Cecilia Miner of Ozark; a brother, Gary Cambell of Ozark; and nine grandchildren.

Katie Hill
Katie Laveda Hill, 83, of Nashville died Saturday, July 24, 2004, in Texarkana, Texas. She was a homemaker and the widow of Willis Hill.
Graveside service was held July 27 at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ross of Nashville; an adopted daughter, Linda Heath of Texarkana; a son, Tommy Howard of Nashville; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Calvin Powell
Calvin “Pete” Powell, 74, of Alma died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at a local hospital. He was disabled.
Survivors include one sister, Margie Anderson of Bellville, Texas; two brothers, Lonnie Powell of Ozark and Ralph Powell of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Chapel of Alma with burial at Hixson Cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Terry, Gary, Billy and David White and Kiefer and Kavin Powell.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Highway 64 East.
