Audrey A. McCarley

Audrey A. McCarley, 80, of Clarksville died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a daughter of the late William B. and Ruth Cowell Childress, member of Lamar Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles William McCarley.

Survivors include one son, Charles McCarley of Clarksville; three half-sisters, Edna Williams and Billie Dean Stark, both of Lamar, and Dolly Skinner of Clovis, Calif.; two half-brothers, Buddy Childress of Batesville and Harvey Childress of Clovis, Calif.; five grandchildren, Wayne McCarley of Oklahoma, Cindy Dyks and Carla McCarley, both of Washington, Johnny Dean of Van Buren, and David Dean of Nashville, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lamar Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harry Tilley, James Duff, Matt Melson, Brandon Melson, John Brown, and Frank Patton.

Gayle B. Coats-Tosspon

Gayle Beth Coats-Tosspon, 62, of Lawson, Mo., died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in El Paso, Texas.

She was a native of Hartman, widow of John Tosspon, and was preceded in death by her parents, Luke and Eliza Coats; and one sister, Lucy Smith.

She is survived by three sons, Tommy Tosspon of Springfield, Mo., Jeffrey Tosspon of Lawson, Mo., and Michael Tosspon of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Doris Brown Peknik of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Betty Atkinson of Cedar Park, Texas, and Shirley Pasley of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Tommy Coats of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Joe Coats of Sun City, Calif.; two granddaughters, Rachel Clark of Charleston, S. C., and Jennifer Tosspon of Lawson, Mo.; five grandsons, Skyler Tosspon of Charleston, S. C., Brandon and Jason Tosspon of Lawson, Mo., and Michael and Ryan Tosspon of Kansas City, Mo.; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral was Friday, March 23, at Charter/Earp & Sons Chapel in Kansas City, Mo., with burial in Brooking Cemetery.

Jonette Shirley

Jonette Shirley, 49, of Alma, mother of Shelley Frost of Clarksville, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at her home.

She was a secretary for Paul Shirley C. P. A., member of West-Ark Church of Christ where she was a sixth grade Bible class teacher and facilitator of His Needs/Her Needs Marriage Enrichment Seminar.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Shirley; one other daughter, Polly Dehm of Jonesboro; one son, Benjamin Shirley of Van Buren; parents, Bill and Annetta Bridges of Redlands, Calif.; one sister, Tammy Trajillo of Redlands, Calif.; two brothers, Joe Bridges of Irvine, Calif., and Russell Bridges of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three grandchildren, Hall Frost, Rachel Gloria Frost, and Lura Beth Dehm.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at West-Ark Church of Christ. Burial was in Gracelawn Cemetery at Van Buren under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

Pallbearers were Mat Griffin, Earl Flood, Bill Dickey, Dr. Bob Fisher, Joe Pistole and Ron Lenderman.

Marian Riddell Cargile

Marian Riddell Cargile, 58, of Oceanside, Calif., died Tuesday, March 27, 2001.

A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of Wendell and Katherine Riddell, a former Princess Elberta and Queen Elberta, finalist in the 1961 Miss Arkansas Pageant, a 1960 honor graduate of Clarksville High School, attended The College of the Ozarks and graduated with honors in 1965 from Arkansas State Teachers College where she received a bachelor's degree in music education. While in college she was a cheerleader, member of Alpha Chi, and was active in theatre and music having won numerous vocal talent awards, and was a member in the Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities.

She was a former junior high music teacher in Little Rock and a former teacher in Oceanside, Calif., Woodbridge, Va., Yardley, Pa., and the Army and Navy Academy (ANA) in Carlsbad, Calif., where she served as the soloist for special occasions. She was also involved in adult education where she was a dean and later a director of schools in North San Diego County (California).

Her involvement in the church included directing the choir at the Community Church of Vista, Calif., and the Marine Memorial Chapel in Camp Pendleton, Calif. She has also contributed to worship services in North County (California).

She was a member of PEO and past president of the chapter in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Other survivors include her husband, John W. (Jack) Cargile; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jason Cargile of Oceanside, Calif., and John Kevin and Rene Cargile of Tulsa, Okla.; one grandson, Josh Cargile of Tulsa, Okla.; and two brothers, Forrest Riddell of Clarksville and Marcus Riddell of Seattle, Wash.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Marine Memorial Chapel in Camp Pendleton, Calif., at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7. The body will be cremated and the cremains will be placed at sea by family members.

Robert H. Wickham

Robert H. Wickham, 85, of Hartman died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a motel manager, farmer, Lutheran, son of the late Alex and Ammie Moore Wickham, and was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Wickham.

Survivors include four daughters, Dianne Burnett of Hartman, Laurie Dodge of Clarksville, Sharon Wacker of San Pablo, Calif., and Kimberly Talbert of Martinez, Calif.; one son, Charles Wickham of San Pablo, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the West Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. David Zeiler officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Tyler Daniel

Tyler Daniel, 16, of Knoxville died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at his home from an apparant self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

He was a native of Texas, tenth grade student at Lamar High School, and was preceded in death by his mother, Fran Starky.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Glenn and Sharon Daniel of Knoxville; one sister, Rachel Kreps of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Glenn Daniel Jr. of Russellville; grandparents, Howard and Mary Jo Freeman of Pocahontas; and an aunt and uncle, Becky and Bill Riley of Knoxville.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Knoxville First Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Flowers officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be J. C. Lemasters, Robert Zinn, Scotty Keene, Ronald Turner, Jacob Lagoy, Phillip Rosel, James Cox, and Joey Tate.

Una Clark

Una Clark, 90, of Clarksville died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a daughter of the late W. P. and Etta Burgess Clark and was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Clark and Mamie Lee Griffin.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Bonnie Clark of Hagarville; and one brother-in-law, Arch Griffin of Clarksville.

Graveside services and burial were at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the Holman Cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Vernice D. Ledbetter Sr.

Vernice D. Ledbetter Sr., 66, of Hunt died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of West Plains, Mo., son of the late James Allen and Ruby O. Mayhan Ledbetter, a retired poultry farmer, and attended Liberty Hill Community Church.

Survivors include his widow, Ruth Ledbetter; one daughter, Roye Faye Palmer of Hunt; two sons, V. Duwane Ledbetter Jr. and James Allen Ledbetter II, both of Hunt; three sisters, Ona Bushman of Coloraro; Lois Roman of West Plains, Mo., and Shirley Bolan of Sapulpa, Okla.; two brothers, Floyd Ledbetter of West Plains, Mo., and David Ledbetter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Liberty Hill Community Church with burial in the Liberty Hill Cemetery at Hunt. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Willis W. Patton

Willis Woodrow Patton, 84, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in Redondo Beach, Calif.

He was a native of Arkansas, son of the late Elet and Luvenia Callahan Patton, member of Jehovah's Witness, and a retired machinist with Borg Warner Inc.

He is survived by two daughters, Beverley Philbrook of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Shirley Gwin of Clarksville; one son, Melvin Patton of Sylmar, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Hard of Owasso, Okla., and Edith Donaldson of Elko, Nev.; one brother, Raymond Patton of Little Rock; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Stillwell Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
