Joseph Sellmeyer

KNOBEL — Joseph “Joe” Sellmeyer, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Mr. Sellmeyer was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Knobel. He was a farmer and enjoyed working on the farm in his shop. He served his country in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Knobel and American Legion. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corning.

He married Doris Bippus Sellmeyer on Nov. 5, 1955. She survives him.

Other survivors include two sons, Ebbie Sellmeyer and wife, Shelia, and Joey Sellmeyer and wife, Shelia, all of Knobel; two sisters, Mary Ann Eaton of Jonesboro and Margaret Harris of Memphis; and five grandchildren, Hans, Megan, Loren, Hannah and Allyssa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Rose Sellmeyer.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Wednesday in Ermert Funeral Home at Corning with service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. Bernards Cemetery at Knobel.

A rosary service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Corning.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Knobel Cemetery Association, 360 Oak St., Knobel, 72435.

Eileen Ingle Smith

POCAHONTAS — Eileen Ingle Smith, 83, died Friday.

Her husband, James, preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Turner and husband Gary Wayne Sr. of Warner Robins, Ga.; a sister, Thelma Sweet of Arizona; three grandchildren, Gary Wayne Turner Jr. of Waldorf, Md., Sheri Beard and Diana Washington, both of Warner Robins; and three great-grandchildren, Dustin and Shelby Turner and Dannon Washington.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Randolph Memorial Gardens with Doyle Chaffin officiating. McNabb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Fate J. Swann

POCAHONTAS — Fate J. Swann, 81, died Sunday.

He is survived by his wife, Vada Swann; son, Eddie Abernatha of Poplar Bluff; three daughters, Mary Frances Swann, Linda Lou DeShaw and Jo Ann Taylor, all of Pocahontas; two brothers, Ray Swann and Buddy Swann, both of Pocahontas; a sister, Faye Swann of Pocahontas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Don Strait and Loy Culver officiating. Burial will follow in Chesser Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.

Juanita Vowell

PARAGOULD — Juanita Rose Vowell, 85, of Paragould died Sunday at Paragould Health and Rehab Center.

Born in Flippin, Mrs. Vowell lived in Lepanto, Rivervale and Caraway before moving to Paragould 20 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Paragould.

Mrs. Vowell was preceded in death by her husband, O. Edgar Vowell; by two sons, Marlon Vowell and Verlon Vowell; by her parents, Alfred and Lucille Coy Rose; by one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Mason of Rector, Wanda Vowell of Paragould and Marilyn Thomas of Jonesboro; seven sons, Bobby Wortham of Brookland, Lloyd Vowell of Lexington, Tenn., Floyd Vowell and Byron Vowell, both of Trumann, Owen Vowell of Marked Tree, Carlos Vowell of Alexandria and Thomas Vowell of Edwardsville, Ill.; two sisters, Leota Perrin of Jonesboro and Elizabeth Roach of Lepanto; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 in Emerson Memorial Chapel at Jonesboro with the Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Purcell Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will include Anthony Timms, Calvin Fletcher, Jimmy Rose, Raymond Miller, Jerry Gray, David Wortham and Justin Wortham.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6-8, in Emerson Funeral Home at Jonesboro.

Davie Jean Walker

MARKED TREE — Davie Jean Thomas Walker, born April 20, 1931, died Monday morning, Sept. 10, 2007, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in the family home in Sarah, Miss. Her parents are the late David Langston Thomas and the late Josephine Herminjard Thomas.

Married to the late Herschel Lee Walker, Aug. 22, 1952, they made their home in Marked Tree.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, daughter, Terry Walker Donham and husband Charlie of Cabot; son, Johnny Walker and wife Samantha of Judsonia, and son, Michael Walker and wife Kelly of Marion. She also leaves two sisters; Juliette Willis of Memphis and Polly Gordon of Sardis, Miss.

She will be missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, John Walker Jr. of Wichita, Kan., Jenny Ann Austin and children, I.C. Collins and Raven Austin, also of Wichita, Charla Donham of North Little Rock, Jean Donham Miller and daughters Ally Jean and Blyss Bradlee Miller of Sherwood, and Olivia and Thomas Walker of Marion. In addition, her many friends, whose lives she touched in her most special way, will miss her.

Davie attended elementary school in Sarah, high school in Senatobia, Miss., and received her R.N. degree from Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis.

She was married to Herschel Lee Walker for 51 years and enjoyed a very active life in Marked Tree. She practiced nursing, held accounting positions and enjoyed retailing at the Colony Shop in West Memphis.

She was past president of First United Methodist Women, past president of Women’s Progressive Club of Marked Tree, financial secretary of First United Methodist Church and secretary of Marked Tree Cemetery Association. She served on the board of Marked Tree Historical Society and was a former member of Poinsett County Quorum Court.

She loved playing bridge and tripoly, visiting the Orpheum Theater and visiting with friends and family.

Visitation will be in Murphy’s Funeral Home this evening at Marked Tree from 6-8. The funeral service will be Wednesday in Marked Tree First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Family and out-of-town guests are invited to lunch at the church at noon, hosted by the bereavement committee of her beloved church.

The service will be conducted by the pastor of First United Methodist Church, Ron Williams. He will be assisted by the former pastor, Sheila Jones. Burial will follow in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Cameron, Toby Walker, Bobby Walker, Ralph Louis Walker Jr., Tommy Walker, James Gordon, Charlie Gordon, Curtis Gordon Jr. and Gary Wallace.

The family requests the bereavement fund at Marked Tree First United Methodist and the American Cancer Society Ovarian Cancer Fund be considered.

Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree has charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Buford Wigginton

HARRISBURG — Jimmy Buford Wigginton, 74, of Harrisburg died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Wigginton, of the home; four sons, Gwen Wigginton, Randy Wigginton and wife Sandy, Johnny Wigginton and wife Shelly and Jimmy Wigginton and wife Patricia, all of Harrisburg; two brothers, Lewis and Oneal; two sisters, Lela and Emma; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Jackson’s Funeral Home in Harrisburg.

Interment will be in Farm Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Myrtle Williams

SIDNEY — Myrtle Williams, 89, of Sidney died Sept. 8, 2007, at Pioneer Nursing Home in Melbourne.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Williams of Melbourne; daughters, Dean Crowson and Veda Sims, both of Benton, Robby Fish of Aztec, N.M., and Delberta Geiger of Sidney; brothers, Bobby Langston of Melbourne and Doyne Langston of Sage; sister, Monteen Barksdale of Wenatchee, Wash.; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Reeves Chapel Church near Guion with burial in Reeves Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8.

Arrangements are by Qualls Funeral Home, Cave City.

Herbert Winberry

CAMPBELL, Mo. — Herbert “Bud” Winberry, 85, of Campbell passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Ilene Winberry of Campbell; five children, Pat Joyce, Lanny Winberry, Kerry Winberry, Ed Winberry and Bryan Winberry; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis First Baptist Church at St. Francis. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be this evening at 6.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Francis First Baptist Church.

Wanda L. Adkins

PLEASANT PLAINS — Wanda L. Adkins, 69, of Pleasant Plains died Sunday.

Survivors include her son, Robert Adkins and wife Carol of Heber Springs; daughter; Yvonne Russell and husband Raymond of Sherwood; mother, Agnes Moore of Bradford; sisters, Imogene McSpadden of Bradford and Donna Acosta-Nady of Bradford; grandchildren, Matthew Adkins, Robert Beel, Brandon Beel, Alex Williamson and Zachary Williamson; and great-grandchild, Robert Lee Beel.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Dillinger Chapel with burial in Coffeyville Cemetery.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Dillinger Funeral Home.
