Phil Osment Sr.
JONESBORO — Phil Osment Sr., 64, of Jonesboro died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Craighead County Nursing Center.
He was born in Jonesboro and lived his life in the Jonesboro and Hot Springs areas. He was of the Methodist belief and was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Christopher Neal Osment.
Phil is survived by three sons, Ray Osment and Lee Osment, both of Jonesboro, and Phil Osment Jr. of West Memphis, and four grandchildren.
All services will be private with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Jonesboro — Alvin Partain, 63, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Robert Lee Redd Sr.
JONESBORO — Mr. Robert Lee Redd Sr., 64, of Jonesboro died Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1943, in Trumann to the late Esker A. Redd and Mary Elizabeth Painter Redd, Mr. Redd was a lifelong area resident and was of Church of God faith. He worked in radio broadcasting with various radio stations, the latest one being KNEA and worked as a custodian with G&K Cleaning Services, along with many other franchises. Mr. Redd loved being around people, was a huge record collector and an avid gospel music fan.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Shirley Redd; one son, Robert Lee Redd Jr.; and one daughter, Amber Lynette Redd, all of Jonesboro; one brother, Gerald Wayne Redd of Waxahachie, Texas; and one half-sister, Faye Scott of Georgetown, Ill.
Mr. Redd was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one half-sister.
Services will be Saturday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. in Church of God, 4813 East Johnson in Jonesboro with the Rev. Heath Hogan and the Rev. Michael Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery
at Jonesboro. The family will receive visitors Friday from 6-9 p.m. in Church of God.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Totty, Justin Totty, Brandon McClaughlin, Andy Wallace, Larry I. Cox, William Dedman and Michael Johnson.
Faith Funeral Service of Manila is in charge of arrangements.
Clara Roberts
WYNNE — Mrs. Clara Ann Roberts of Wynne passed away Monday afternoon at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Ann Roberts Latham of Wynne; granddaughter, Brigett Latham Johnson of Wynne; and great-granddaughters, Brittney and Brileigh Johnson of Wynne.
Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. in Kernodle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery
at Wynne.
Minnie Bomer
WALDENBURG — Minnie Bomer, 85, of Waldenburg passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Harris Hospital.
She was born in Batesville on Oct. 5, 1921, to LaFayette and Vadie McGrew. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Bomer of Lake Annette, Mo., and Elmer Bomer of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Linda Mayfield of Waldenburg and Betty Morgan of Independence, Mo.; a sister, Nettie Mross Clark of Weiner; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer D. Bomer; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home at Weiner with Wyndell King officiating and burial to follow in Walker Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home Chapel at Weiner.
Pallbearers will include Troy Mayfield, Jerry Mayfield, Roger Bomer, James Gillean and Ray Bomer.
Olen James ‘O.J.’ Butts
HOXIE — Olen James Butts, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, in St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.
James was born near Lindsey Switch and had lived in Lawrence County for the past 35 years. He was a former test pilot and engineer for Paige Industries, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Butts; daughter, Kim Huskey; son, Jim Butts; stepson, Tom Kellim; two sisters, Mayme Chappel and Syble Butts; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge with Rob Combs officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park.
Visitation will be tonight from 5:30-8 in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Wright, Mike Wright, Jay Light, Ken Moody, Hunter Burris and Steve Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Gillean, Ed Baker, Loyel Smith, John Statler and Jim McMillion.
Danny Castle
HARRISBURG — Mr. Danny Castle of Harrisburg departed this life Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 63.
He was born Aug. 24, 1944, in Springfield, Mass., the son of Charles Castle and Gertrude Ayers Castle.
Danny graduated Central High School in Tulsa, Okla., and went on to get his master’s degree in agriculture from Oklahoma State University. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was stationed in Japan.
Danny moved to Harrisburg in 1970 and was a county agent for Poinsett County for five years. In 1976 he started his own agricultural consulting company. He was a former president of Arkansas Agricultural Consultant Association. He enjoyed Arkansas State University football, NASCAR racing, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Lucy Castle; his wife, Karen Castle; a son, Jason Castle; and a brother, Jim Egan.
He is survived by his son, Scott Castle and wife Dawn of Harrisburg; two daughters, Lisa Denton and husband Mike of Harrisburg and Danielle Bornhoft of Cabot; one sister, Ann Schooley of Tulsa; seven grandchildren, Tyler Denton, Hayley Denton, Brady Castle, Matthew Bornhoft, Connor Castle, Olivia Bornhoft and Riley Bornhoft; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday in Weston Funeral Service Chapel at Harrisburg with the Rev. Captain Lovell officiating. Interment will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5-7.
Pallbearers will be Jake Barnes, Dale Clark, Howard Shannon, Brooks Turner, Ron Hunter and Jeff Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Martin, Gary Sitzer, Jess Murray, Sharon Robinson, Linda King, Gary Moss, Therin Henderson and Mark Rorex.
The family has asked for memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Juvenile Diabetes. Association.
Dale Duncan
WARM SPRINGS — Dale Duncan, 76, of Warm Springs died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Duncan of the home; children, Nina and Penny Duncan of Granite City, Ill., Ava Madden of Hoxie, Michael May of Maryville, Ill., Paul May and Harry L. Tatro Jr. of St. Charles, Mo., Sandra Wetherton of Pocahontas and Jean Williams; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Josephine, Peggy, Helen, Bonnie, Delores and Gwen; and brothers, Herbert and Bill.
Visitation will be today from 4-6 p.m. Memorial services will immediately follow visitation.

Avon L. Fletcher
PARAGOULD — Lt. Col. (Ret.) Avon L. Fletcher, 89, of Paragould passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Lt. Col. Fletcher professed faith in Jesus Christ as savior during revival services at Bethel Baptist Church when he was 13 years old and reflected the light of Christ with love, grace and kindness. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Paragould.
Lt. Col. Fletcher enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on Oct. 8, 1940, and received the commission of 2nd lieutenant in 1943. During World War II he served in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters and was awarded the Bronze Star. From 1949-51 he served in Japan and both North and South Korea. He served tours in Iceland and served the Secretary of Air Force Management at the Pentagon in Washington, where he received the Meritorious Service Medal. From 1961-66 he was assigned to the 13th Air Force in the Philippines and served there and in Vietnam and Thailand where he received a second Meritorious Service Medal as well as the Commendation Award. Lt. Col. Fletcher completed USAF Staff Command College and the Industrial War College. After serving the United States Defense Department at the Pentagon, Lt. Col. Fletcher retired on July 1, 1973.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Fletcher, a son; Avon Fletcher Jr. of Harper, Texas; two daughters, Celeste Guile of Fayetteville and Melissa J. Trey of Memphis; and his stepchildren, Bryant Marshall of Paragould, Tammy Hayes of Carmel, Ind., and Kelley Davidson of Fayetteville. Col. Fletcher dearly loved his children, his 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Bicking Fletcher; his parents, Ernest and Clara Fletcher; and his sister, Deloris Taylor.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.

POCAHONTAS — Jasper C. Gage, 68, of Pocahontas died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lula Gage; two brothers, Leroy and Everett; and one sister, Liz Foster.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda; five children, Tonyia Gibson, Richard Gage, David Gage, April Hill and Misty Ross; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Curtis and Otis Gage.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. in Cox-Waymon Chapel at Pocahontas.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cox-Waymon Chapel with burial in Gravesville Cemetery.
