Jimmy Olen Sparks

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — Dr. Jimmy Olen Sparks, 75, of Olive Branch, formerly of Marmaduke, died Saturday, July 26, at Southaven, Miss.

Born July 25, 1933, at Marmaduke, he was a retired Southern Baptist minister, serving churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas and Mississippi. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Sparks of Olive Branch; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Sherry Sparks of Southaven, and Kenny and Rhonda Sparks of Olive Branch; two brothers, Cloyce Sparks of Paragould and Melbourn Sparks of Oklahoma City; one sister, Devant Taylor of Marmaduke, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Lydia Sparks; five brothers, Jake, Troy, and J.W. Sparks, and two infant brothers; and two sisters, Mondra Faughn and Alline Kingston.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with burial in New Friendship Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time.

Lillie Mae Bradsher

JONESBORO — Lillie Mae Bradsher, 93, of Jonesboro, formerly of Rector, passed from this life Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her residence.

She was born June 12, 1915, to the late James and Ruth Gore Stallings in Clay County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gwyn Oscar Bradsher; two brothers, Permer Stallings and Billy Stallings; two sisters, Mable Stallings Quick and Imogene Pixley; and a grandson, Brian Kelly Duffel.

She is survived by her daughter and a son-in-law, Carol and Johnny Duffel of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Misty Baker and Erikka Hall; seven great-grandchildren, William and Brian Gipson, Whitney and Charles Gregg, Shelby Hall, Olyvia Utnage and Kassie Ransone; two great-great-grandchildren, Jaden and Kaylin Gipson; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Irby Funeral Home in Rector with David Floyd officiating. Interment was in Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Junior ‘J.L.’ Burkheart

June 24, 1921-July 29, 2008

CORNING — Junior L. Burkheart, 87, of Corning died Tuesday at Piggott Community Hospital.

He was the son of Laymon and Millie Burkheart.

Survivors include his children, Danny, Bill, Calvin, David, Royce and Randall Burkheart, Linda Smith and Phyllis Hollowell, all of Corning, Donna Campbell of South Lyon and Brenda Cook of Lewistown, Mo.; brother, Jessie E. Burkheart of Shreveport, La.; sister, Essie Grubb of Shreveport; and 27 grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Ermert Funeral Home with burial following in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Sam Edwards

HARRISBURG — Sam Edwards, 67, of Harrisburg died Monday, July 28, 2008.

Sam is survived by his wife, Lonene Branum Edwards; mother, Ellen Edwards; son, Todd Edwards and wife, Kim; daughters, Janet Rorex and Shelly Hunter and husband, Ron; brother, Calvin Edwards and wife, Barbara and grandchildren; Samantha Rorex, Sarah, Andrew, Alaina and Katie Hunter, and Jerrad, Keely and Abby Edwards.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Harrisburg First Baptist Church with Captain Lovell and Jerry Kausler. Interment will be in Harrisburg Memorial Park.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-9 at Jackson’s Funeral Home.

Audrey Hoggard

Aug. 25, 1936-June 21, 2008

CAVE CITY — Audrey “Leon” Hoggard, 71, of Cave City died Saturday.

He was born at Cave City to Orville and Zana McLeod Hoggard and worked in construction.

Survivors include his daughters, Shelly Humphrey of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Jodie Marsh of Batesville and Connie Sifford of Cave City; brothers, J.O. Hoggard of Rogers, L.D. Hoggard of Cave City and Billy Hoggard of Muncie, Ind.; sisters, Nina Ellis of Batesville and Genice Koonce of Tutle, Okla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Friday afternoon at 2 in Qualls Cave City Funeral Home with visitation following at 4.

Mildred Sarah Mayo

BLYTHEVILLE — Mrs. Mildred Sarah Lawrence Mayo, 96, of Blytheville died Monday, July 28, at her home.

She leaves her son, Terry Henry Mayo (Maruska) of Houston; daughters, Norma Jean Deguise (Dr. Robert) of Peoria, Ill., and Mae Elizbeth Lovelace (Larry) of Blytheville; a special daughter-in-law, Erma Jean Brannon Mayo of Blytheville; six grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery at Blytheville with Mike Welch officiating. No visitation will be held.

Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of arrangements.

Constance Parham

JONESBORO — Constance “Connie” E. Parham, 91, of Jonesboro died Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Washington, Mo.

She had lived most of her life in Jonesboro and was a member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Parham, whom she married Aug. 5, 1933; a daughter, Ann Smith; parents, Albert and Annie Cooper; three brothers, Clarence Cooper, John Cooper and Jim Henry Cooper; and three sisters, Opal Cooper, Charlse Cooper and Ernestine Chisenhall.

Connie is survived by one brother, Bill Cooper and his wife, Gloria of Corona, Calif.; four grandchildren, Mike Smith, Chuck Smith, Kelly Smith and Patrick Smith; five great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Kenneth Gossett officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery with Stan Hamilton, Jimmy McCain, Jeremy Dement, Ron Davy, Joe Gregory and Trevor Moore serving as pallbearers and Johnny Moore serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-8.

Bobby George Perry

PARAGOULD — Dr. Bobby George Perry, 68, of Paragould died Monday at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 14, 1940, at Houston, Ark., the son of the late Willie Bob and Mary Agnes Kemper Perry. Bob retired as director of the Northeast Arkansas County Extension District. He was previously a county extension agent over Lonoke, Drew, Pike, Washington and Crittenden counties.

Bob received his bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was a lifelong ASU Indian fan. He received his master’s degree from the University of Maryland, and his specialist’s and doctoral degree from the University of Arkansas.

Bob was a Rotarian, member of the National Association of Federal Employees, member of the First United Methodist Church and the FUMC Choir, was an avid traveler and Buffalo River camper. Bob recently performed at Carnegie Hall with the ASU-Community choir.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Diane Deckelman Perry of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Holly Perry of Harrison; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jeff Cagle of Palestine; and grandchildren, Zachary and Mallory Perry, and Jana, Jessica and Jacob Cagle.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated in First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Tom Letchworth officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park at Harrisburg.

Active pallbearers are Bob Branch, Jay Gilbert, Dennis Weaver, Jerry Thomas, Glen Pillow and Bobby Dale Fallon.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 404 West Main St., Paragould 72450.

Bill Redman

CARAWAY — Bill Redman, 73, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Ginger Adams

JONESBORO — Ginger Adams, 92, of Jonesboro died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008.

She was born at Stroud, Okla., to Lloyd Fuller Love and Gladys Menasco Love.

She was a member of Nettleton Church of Christ. She was retired from the U.S. Army Air Corps as staff sergeant where she was an ex­ecutive se­c­retary to Gen. Mark Clark during World War II.

As a member of the Professional and Business Women’s Club, she served as president twice, vice director of Northeast Arkansas and state chairman to the national convention. She was also a St. Bernards Regional Medical Center lady volunteer.

A niece, Marvelia Okeffe of St. Petersburg, Fla., survives her. Ruby Coffey of Jonesboro was her guardian.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-7 in Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

Memorials will be to St. Bernards Hospice and Nettleton Church of Christ.
