Kayla Joanne Hewitt
BONO — Kayla Joanne Hewitt, 8, of Bono died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital at Little Rock.
Born at Jonesboro, Kayla lived all of her life in Weiner before moving to Bono recently. She was in the third grade.
Kayla attended Weiner Elementary School until she was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. Subsequently, she was home-schooled by the teachers of Weiner Elementary until she returned to the hospital last week.
Kayla was a devout Christian and was preceded in death by a grandfather, Frank Flanigan.
Survivors include her father and his fiancée, Wilbur Hewitt and Donna Soden of the home; her mother and stepfather, Kennita and Jeff Cox of O’Kean; a sister, Madison Hewitt; a brother, Ryan Seth Soden; and grandparents, Wilburn and Lillie Hewitt of Weiner, Judy Flanigan of Newport and Allen and Teresa Soden of Waldenburg.
In addition, there are other brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Sammy Bennett and Dan Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery
at Weiner.
Active pallbearers include officers of the Craighead County Detention Center.
Honorary pallbearers include members of the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office and the Weiner Fire and Rescue Department.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-8 in Emerson Funeral Home.

Charles Lee Jolley
CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Charles Lee Jolley, 75, of Cherokee Village died Sunday, Aug. 31, in Little Rock.
Charles was born in Rankin County, Miss., on June 16, 1933. He served in the Air Force during the 
Korean War. Following his time in the Air Force, he worked for the federal government in the Defense Department as a quality assurance specialist. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1988 and moved to Arkansas in 1990.
Chuck enjoyed playing music with his friends and different groups in the area. He was a member of the Spring River Car Club, where he showed several of his antique cars. He was a member of the Highland Elks and a Shriner.
Charles was the son of the late Lewis Jolley and the late Ella Ashley Jolley.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jolley, whom he married Oct. 4, 1958, in St. Paul, Minn.; five daughters, Joanne Hiler of Little Falls, Minn., Brenda Rudd of Edgerton, Wis., Lisa Ennocenti of Cherokee Village, Cindy Overfield and her husband Steve of Alexandria, Ala., and Sheila Lohman and her husband Greg of Geneseo, Ill.; sister, Peggy Gordon; and brothers, Clifford and Otis Partin; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Heath Funeral Home of Highland.
Funeral services will be held in Spring River Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday with Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial will follow in Bronaugh Cemetery
at Hardy under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Highland.
Georgia M. Kasper
CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — Georgia Marguerite Kasper passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Georgia was born May 24, 1914, at Blytheville to James Ernest Paris and Sarah Bascom Paris. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Bruce Fisher on April 12, 1936, and they had three children.
After Mr. Fisher passed away, Mrs. Georgia married Herman Leo Kasper on Nov. 28, 1948, and together they had three additional children. Mrs. Georgia raised her family in Caruthersville, Mo.
Mrs. Georgia graduated high school and business college. She was both a homemaker and business woman, running Kasper’s Bakery in Caruthersville with her husband for many years.
Mrs. Georgia is survived by her children, Robert Bruce Fisher of Bay St. Louis, Miss., James Lawrence Fisher of Coon Rapids, Minn., John Henry Fisher of Asheville, N.C., Kathryn Ann King of Wynne, JoAnn VanPelt of Jonesboro and Franklin Joseph Kasper of Coral Springs, Fla.; two sisters, Maude Evelyn Highfill of Little Rock and Mary Elizabeth Hedden of Metropolis, Ill.; one brother, James Bascom Paris of Moses Lake, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding Mrs. Georgia in death were her parents, James and Sarah Paris; one sister, Rita Ernestine Ashley; and one brother, Charles Herbert Paris.
Visitation for Mrs. Kasper was Sunday in the chapel of H.S. Smith Funeral Home at Caruthersville.
Funeral Mass was Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Caruthersville with the Rev. Robert Bruce Fisher officiating. Interment was in Little Prairie Cemetery
at Caruthersville. H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Georgia were Jon David King, Michael Joseph King, Tracy House, Lisa Castle, Lara Schwab, Dan Schwab and Lee Castle.
Memorials can be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Caruthersville or St. Peter’s Catholic Church at Wynne.
Charles John McDaniel Jr.
JONESBORO — Charles John McDaniel Jr., 90, of Jonesboro passed away at the Craighead Nursing Center on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008.
He was born at Valley View to Charles Sr. and Sarah McDaniel. He was a manager for a mini storage in Jonesboro and of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his daughters, Cherie Wynne of Hobbs, N.M., and Sandy Breneiser of Los Luna, N.M.; sons, Clark McDaniel and Chuck McDaniel, both of Jonesboro, John Benjamin McDaniel of Blytheville, Randy Hawkins of Taylor and Donald Hawkins of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy Myers of Flint, Mich.; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the McDaniel Cemetery
chapel with the Rev. Stan Ballard officiating. Langford-Bookout Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday in Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.
Mary Hickam Montgomery
SAN DIEGO — Mary Hickam Montgomery was born July 19, 1926, in rural Bono and died at home in San Diego on Aug. 25, 2008.
She was the daughter of Lelar Nutt Hickam and William Silas Hickam.
She is survived by one son, Ronnie of Colorado; one daughter, Sherry of San Diego; one sister, Ruth of Monroe, N.C.; two granddaughters, Tracie and Laurie; one grandson Sean; and one great-grandson, Dustin, all of San Diego. She also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
She was different. She was special.
M.E. Prince
PARAGOULD — M.E. Prince, 87, died at his home at Paragould Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ethel Prince, and his first wife, Lucy Cupp Prince.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; his children and their spouses, Gene and Betty Prince, Gary and Carla Prince, and Nina and Frank Curtis, all of Paragould, Sharon and David Murphy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Kay and Terry Brinkley of Paris, Ill. He is also survived by stepsons, Dr. Lance and Kathy Monroe, and George Monroe of Paragould; sisters, Elsie Wood and Sudie Pruett of Paragould; 17 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a retired Baptist preacher, having pastored churches at Pleasant Valley, Hooker, Delaplaine, Walcott, Vines Chapel, Eight Mile and Lafe in Arkansas and Bucoda, Mo.
He served in the Army during World War II, 1942-45, in France, Belgium and Germany.
He worked as a carpenter for more than 40 years, building many residences in Northeast Arkansas and the Bootheel.
Visitation will be from 6-9 this evening in Mitchell Funeral Home at Paragould.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Lee and Dale Stidman officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons — Scott Murphy, Chris Murphy, Tony Prince, Kevin Curtis, Brian Curtis and Shawn Prince.
Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters — Debbie Prince Lock, Leighanne Brinkley Kramp, Tisha Brinkley Watters, Kelly Orick Hughes, Kristina Brinkley Temple and Lora Lee Prince McCarty.
Agnes Elizabeth Tate
JONESBORO — Agnes Elizabeth “Betty” Tate, 89, of Jonesboro, born June 20, 1919, at Montevallo, Ala., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth’s Place at Jonesboro.
Mrs. Tate lived in Little Rock before moving to Jonesboro in 1991. She worked several years for City Drug and Royal Pharmacy in Jonesboro and was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was a former member of the Caleb Mountain Climbers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, U.L. Tate; and one son, one daughter, one granddaughter, one sister and six brothers.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Dr. Donald Berry of Jonesboro and Peggy and Vincent Furey of Falmouth, Maine; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Joanne Tate of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Dr. Michael Berry of Germantown, Tenn., Daren Berry of Jonesboro, Vincent Furey III of Orlando, Fla., Kristin Graffam of Falmouth and Terry Tate Jr. and Brian Tate, both of Houston; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1 in Oaklawn Cemetery
with the Rev. Mike Martin officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Emerson Funeral Home.

Marcell Fowler Vickers
CHERRY VALLEY — Marcell Fowler Vickers, 76, of Cherry Valley died Wednesday, Sept. 3, at CrossRidge Hospital in Wynne.
She was born April 1, 1932, in Brilliant, Ala., to James and Nancy Butler Fowler.
Marcell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Vickers; one son; one daughter; four brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include her son, Billy; daughters, Vickie Sanders and Lori Hess; sister, Emma Cooper; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday morning at 11 in Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home with interment in Sand Hill Cemetery
at Auvergne.
