William Proctor Lamar

JONESBORO — William Proctor “Bud” Lamar, 86, of Jonesboro died Saturday at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 2, 1924, to Clyde and Huta Lamar in Myrtle, Miss.

He graduated from Southside High School in Memphis in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy as a medic during World War II.

After settling in Jonesboro and building his business, Lilly News Company Inc., he retired in 1990. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1702.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Lamar of the home; four daughters and two sons, Marlene Lamar and her husband Tony Klepitch of Little Rock, Debbe Sandin and her husband Dave of Maumelle, William Lamar and his wife Zoe of Little Rock, Mark Lamar and his wife Julia of Jonesboro, Lisa Riahi of Little Rock, and Dana Lamar and her husband William Brown of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A rosary service will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Emerson Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation to follow from 5:30-7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Church with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Private burial will follow.

Active pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. Honorary pallbearers include Morris and Karen Simmons, David and Betsy Ferguson, Paul and Marge Rothgery, Roy and Betty Grant, B.J. and Becky Bailey, Tom and Gwen Gschwend, Dave and Debbie Marthey, Phil Reginelli and Hubert and Dorothy Brodell.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund.

Philip Clyde Lamitina

NEWPORT — Philip Clyde Lamitina, 64, of Newport died Saturday.

Mr. Lamitina enjoyed antique care restoration, hunting, fishing and especially loved to cook for family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Gina Robertson and husband Lance of Alpharetta, Ga., and Lori Nicholson and husband Charles of Little Rock; one brother, Sam Lamitina; one sister, Linda Jane Tate; a special friend, Melanie Pobst; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today.

Arrangements are by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.

Grady Lee Markham

OSCEOLA — Grady Lee Markham, 83, of Osceola entered into rest Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, in Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Frances Thompson Markham; and two brothers, Charles Markham and Billy Moore.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Ziemba; son-in-law, Chuck Ziemba of Keller, Texas; and one grandson, Brad Ziemba of Memphis.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Swift Funeral Home, followed by a 3 p.m. funeral service in Roller-Swift Chapel. Burial will be in Mississippi County Memorial Gardens.

Paul McGuire

JONESBORO — Paul McGuire, 81, of Jonesboro, formerly of Conway, departed this life on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Paul was born June 6, 1928 in Gourd Neck, the son of Noah and Snowda (Wolfe) McGuire. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served for four years. He married Ms. Dorothy Mae Boyster on Nov. 26, 1955, and he attended church at the First Assembly of God in Conway before moving to Jonesboro.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Snowda (Wolfe) McGuire, and one brother, J.W. McGuire.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Boyster) McGuire of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Lewis, and husband Gregory of Jonesboro; one sister, Regina McGuire Surginer of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and six grandchildren, Kristan Anthony, Kelli Anthony, James Lewis, Thomas Lewis, William Lewis and Paul Lewis.

Private services will be held by the family at a later date.

Loretta Parnell

MAYNARD — Loretta Parnell, 79, passed away Saturday.

She was preceded by her parents, Dave and Leona Nash; husband, Charles Parnell; and son, Kenny Parnell.

She is survived by one daughter, Vickie Crowell of Maynard; two sons, Danny Parnell of Festus, Mo., and Carl Parnell of Arnold, Mo.; two brothers, Thurman Nash of Doniphan, Mo., and Raymond Nash of Pocahontas; eight sisters, Pauline Buckley, Eathel Buckley, Minnie Barber and Janie Cresap all of Maynard, Letha Buckley of Carbondale, Ill., Valerie Laughlin of Corning, Lorene Hufstedler of Paragould and Deloris Young of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Donnie Autry officiating. Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery.

Dexter Tate

BONO — Dexter Tate, 72, of Bono, died Saturday at NEA Baptist Hospital.

He was retired from the City of Bono as water supervisor and was of the Church of Christ belief. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop, inventing gadgets and watching “America’s Funniest Videos.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alice Tate; a sister, Mayzelle Hendrix; and brothers, Austin Tate, Dale Tate, FA Tate and Vernie Ray Tate.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Tate of the home; five daughters, Bridgette Baxter and her husband Donnie of Sherwood, Melissa Donnelly and her husband Jeremy of Kansas City, Kan., Tiffani Shae Tate and her spouse Christi Pyles, Amanda Coffman and her husband Jackie, all of Bono, Laura Sullivan and her husband Terry of Paragould; seven grandchildren, Joseph Baxter, Brittany Baxter, Trey Sullivan, Zachary Jones, Deidre Godfrey, Kaitlin Donnelly and Esvin Tate Pyles; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Baxter, Daniel Baxter and Faith Baxter; three brothers, Leo Tate, Coy Tate and Kenny Williams; and three sisters, Charlene Jumper, Maxine Durham and Genevieve McCasland.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Gary Cremeens officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Joseph Baxter, Zach Jones, Trey Sullivan, Jeremy Donnelly, Terry Sullivan and Jackie Coffman. Honorary bearers will include Donnie Baxter and Jim Greuel.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Davis

BRADFORD — Billy Roscoe Davis, 87, of Bradford died Monday, March 8.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Pridmore Davis; daughters, Brenda Sue Turner of Kennett, Mo., Anna Lee Davis of Bradford and Billie Jean Ward of Kennett; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Coffeeville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight.

Pallbearers will include Billy Ward, Michael Turner, Steven Turner, Charles Davis, Larry Davis, Jim Burress, Ray Davis, Howard Davis and Buddy Ward.

Jerry Wayne Dye Sr.

JONESBORO — Jerry Wayne Dye Sr., 58, of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born Jan. 18, 1952, at Bunny into the family of Bill and Juanita Lee Dye, he had worked as a farm hand, a truck driver and tree serviceman. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and Arrowhead Hunting Club, loved hunting, fishing, old John Wayne movies, country music and movies.

Survivors include his wife, Lucinda Dye of the home; four sons, Jerry Dye Jr., Brian and Zachary Dye and Benny Riley; three daughters, Tina Cline, Juanita Cordova and Angel Abbott; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five brothers, Larry, Tim, Bill, Frank and Jeff Dye; and five sisters, Sarah Biggers, Barbara Shirley, Brenda Whitlow, Rita Lewellen and Donna Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Dye; and one grandson, Hayden Dye.

Active pallbearers will include Jeremy Abbott, Mark Cline, Benny Riley, Barry Fielder, David Cowen, Jonathan Cowen, Hunter Cline and Mike Lassiter.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with James Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow in Cash Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Jimmy Johnston

NEWPORT — Jimmy Charles Johnston, 72, of Newport died Monday, March 8, at Little Rock.

Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Troy Johnston Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Erma Lou Britten Johnston; sons, James Johnston and Scott Johnston, both of Iowa City, Iowa; stepsons, Marvin Poe and Keith Poe, both of Jonesboro; sister, Sherry Sue Riggs of Hot Springs; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home with interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery and visitation from 9 until services.

Sidney Jones

SOUTHGATE, Mich. — Sidney Jones, 51, son of Christine House Jones, died Feb. 14, 2010, in Southgate.

Survivors include his mother, Christine Clark of Southgate; and uncles, Franklin House of Paragould and Robert House of Kansas City, Mo.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, in Pine Log Cemetery.
