James Anschultz

NEWPORT — James Anschultz, 59, of Newport died Sunday.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Airman 1st Class Ashley Anschultz, and his parents.

Survivors include his son, Kaleb Anschultz; daughter, Misty Corner; brothers, Lannas Anschultz and R.K. Anshultz; sisters, Loretta Linderman, Dot Nicholson and Sharon Clausen; and grandchildren, Michael, Shawn, Brittney and Jasmine.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Ronnie Lee Armstrong

TRUMANN — Ronnie Lee Armstrong, 56, of Trumann died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center in Little Rock.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Melissa Raye Becton

PARAGOULD — Melissa Raye Becton, 54, of Paragould, formerly of Rogers, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born May 5, 1956, at Malvern. She was a graduate of University of Arkansas at Little Rock, registered nurse, enterostomal therapist and licensed real estate agent.

She was a member of the Women’s Council of Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, graduate of leadership Paragould, Rotarian, president of the Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Association, member of Daughters of the American Revolution, member of East Side Baptist Church and former member of First Baptist Church in Rogers.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Becton Jr., M.D., of the home; children, Lindsey Hug and Justin Philpott of Waco, Texas, Paul “Trey” Becton III of Little Rock and Mary Hannah Becton of Paragould; stepson, Robert Aaron Becton; parents, Raymond Robert and Marylene Holloway Digby of Little Rock; brother, Robert Raymond Digby of Little Rock; and a grandchild on the way, Caroline Raye Philpott.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould.

Her life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at East Side Baptist Church in Paragould with the Revs. Ben Rowell and Jason Noel officiating. Interment will follow in Little Rock at 4 p.m. in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Barry Davis, Jeff Block, Shane Carter, Mike Ford, Owen Lusk, Bob Moore and Ron Rooney.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Women’s Council of Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Rotary Club of Paragould and Mike Ford’s Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the Women’s Council of Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Harold ‘Huey’ Chipman

LEXINGTON, Okla. — Harold “Huey” Chipman, 50, of Lexington, Okla., formerly of Manila, died Saturday at Purcell, Okla.

Born at St. Louis, he was the son of the late C.J. “Hoot” Chipman, was a graduate of Manila High School and had lived in Oklahoma for the past 25 years. He was retired from the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.

He enjoyed motorcycles, going to the lake and spending time outdoors with friends.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Justin Ayres of Norman, Okla.; his mother, Anna Chipman of Manila; a stepson, Randy Williams of Norman; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Pam Chipman, Charles and Karen Chipman, and Paul and Vickie Chipman, all of Manila; three sisters, Theresa Russell and husband Dolan, and Avise Wright, all of Manila, Carla and Arlas Dozhier of Siloam Springs.

He also leaves two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First Assembly of God at Manila with the Rev. James Chipman officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors this evening from 6-8 at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila.

James Harley Davis

THIDA — James Harley Davis, 85, of Thida departed this life on Sunday.

Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents, James and Gracy Davis.

Survivors are his wife, Velma McSpadden Davis; sons, Mike Davis of Heber Springs, Rick Davis of Cabot, Archie Davis of Diaz and Lloyd Balch of Tennessee; daughters, Leveata Shelley of Newport, Nancy Grisham of Thida, Barbara Willard of Thida and Reitha Davis of Thida; sisters, Daisy Knight and Hazel Hoyt of Olyphant; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Coffeeville Cemetery.

Thelma ‘Jackie’ Garner

JONESBORO — Thelma “Jackie” McIlwain Garner, 77, of Jonesboro died Saturday at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Born at Cleveland, Miss., to Andrew Jackson and Myrtle Mann McIlwain, she had lived in Jonesboro since 1961. She married William L. Garner on Nov. 6, 1954.

Mrs. Garner was a very active woman. She was a graduate of the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis and worked as a registered nurse with her husband in his medical practice. She had also served as a public health nurse in Memphis and was a member of the St. Bernards Medical Center Auxiliary.

Her many activities included Red Hat Society, Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the War of 1812, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of Indian Wars.

Mrs. Garner loved to garden and was an avid sports fan, especially an Ole Miss fan. She was a member of many groups and had a number of interests, but she dearly loved being a grandmother. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Jackie “Sweet Pea” and Tony Pardew of Jonesboro, William L. and Landi Garner Jr. of South Plainfield, N.J., and Dr. Matt and Susan Garner of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Garner Ashley and Anthony Ditta, Heather Nicole Pardew, Whitney Leigh Pardew, Guy Anthony Pardew Jr., Jennifer Lauren Garner, Jordan Anise Garner, William David Garner, Barry Matthew Garner Jr. and Mary Katharine Garner; her great-grandchildren, Anthony Joseph Ditta Jr. and Audrey Garner Ditta; brothers and sisters, Andrew Jackson “Mac” McIlwain, Coyette Blaine “Jackie” McIlwain, Lilly Bell Green, Beatrice Crocker, Salley Roberts and Judy Steed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Dr. William L. Garner, and her parents, Andrew Jackson and Myrtle Mann McIlwain.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Vu and Dr. Vic Stepka officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Guy Anthony Pardew Jr., William David Garner, Barry Matthew Garner Jr., Anthony Joseph Ditta, Ryan Owl Dwyer and Ethan Leonard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Scott Kapulsky, Dr. Don Guinn, H.R. Garner and James W. Jackson.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 at the funeral home. Rosary will be said at 7.

For lasting memorials, the family requests that consideration be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73123, or Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, 1138 East Matthews Ave., Jonesboro 72401.

H.V. Harvey

BROOKLAND — H.V. Harvey, 88, of Brookland passed from this life Sunday, July 11, 2010, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 10, 1922, to Dave and Ardie Goff Harvey. Mr. Harvey was retired from construction.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Harvey, in 2007; his parents; two sisters, Rosetta Strickland and Cloe Simpson; and four brothers, Riley, Elmer, Hugh and Les Harvey.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Duane and Linda Harvey of Jonesboro; a daughter, Re Va Brady of Jonesboro; a brother, F.A. Harvey of Lepanto; three grandchildren, Kevin and Renee Brady of Jonesboro, Angela Brady and friend Rhonda Jones of Brookland, and Stacey Harvey of Jonesboro; and a great-granddaughter, Hali Harvey of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be from 5-8 this evening at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pine Log Cemetery with Patty Soward officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Allison, Jim Dozier, Darrel Harvey, David Simpson, Tim Hudson and Dr. James Robinette.

The family requests lasting memorials be made to the donor’s favorite charity or memorial.

Sheila Hooper

HOT SPRINGS — Sheila Darlene Hooper, 55, of Hot Springs died Thursday, July 8, 2010.

Sheila was born Jan. 22, 1955, in Jonesboro, where she lived most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Evo Donavan; father, George Hanna; and son, Michael Shane Holland.

Survivors include her son, Andy Holland of Hot Springs; daughter, Marann Bonds of Jonesboro; ex-husband, Michael Holland of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; and sisters, Sherry King of Paragould, Yvette Sansom and Michelle Raymond, both of Jonesboro.

Memorial services are planned for a later date.

William Hunt

OSCEOLA — William Eugene Hunt, 78, of Osceola died Sunday, July 11, 2010, in Little Rock.

He was born Sept. 16, 1931, at Gravelly, was a Korean War veteran, truck driver and member of New Creation Outreach Center.

Survivors include his children, Debra Ann Wilford of Harrison, Mary Tobar of Wilson, Mary Jane Hunt, Becky Hunt, Ricky Eugene Holt and Billy Joe Hunt, all of Osceola; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday with services folllowing at 1 in Wilson’s Osceola Funeral Home with burial in Mississippi County Memorial Gardens.
