Jerry L. Rook

JONESBORO — Jerry L. Rook, 39, of rural Jonesboro died Saturday evening at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born in Little Rock, Jerry lived in Stuttgart before moving to Jonesboro in 1988. He was a 1990 graduate of Brookland High School and worked several years for Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores. Jerry enjoyed golf and fishing.

Survivors include his son, Rhett Rook of Jonesboro; father and stepmother, Jerry G. and Paula Rook of Jonesboro; mother and stepfather, Vickie and Leonard Nichols of Elkins; grandparents, Clarence and LaVonne Dice of Greers Ferry; three brothers, Barry Rook of White Hall, David Rook of Rogers and Heath Minnis of Bono; and two sisters, Dana Jones of Egypt and Tina Rook of Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ken Stallings officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Kevin Rook, Michael Morrison, Jason Rook, Paul Stallings, Dick Rook and Ted Rook.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at Emerson Funeral Home.

Joshua Barnes

WALNUT RIDGE — Joshua Edward Barnes, 31, died Friday.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Troy Ingram, and paternal grandfather, Junior Davis.

Survivors include parents, Ronnie and Frances Barnes of Walnut Ridge; sister, Sarah Hall of Smithville; maternal grandmother, Veda Ingram of Walnut Ridge; paternal grandparents, Rick and Kathryn Lewis of Powhatan; nephew, Chad Hall; and many other family and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Steve Alexander and Dennis Truxler officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery near Paragould.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Franklin Beard Jr.

DYESS — Franklin Beard Jr., 71, of Dyess died Thursday, March 10, 2011, in the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center.

He was a U.S. Army veteran in the Korean War. He was a member of West Memphis Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Lepanto American Legion and the Harley Owners Group. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Beard of the home; sons, Stewart Beard and Franklin Beard, both of Wisconsin, James Parks and Michael Parks, both of Burdette, and Billy Parks of Marked Tree; daughters, Lisa Beard of Las Vegas, Holly Beard of California and Becky Smith of Jonesboro; and a sister, Holly Gilbert of Reading, Pa.

Murphy Funeral Home of Lepanto is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Gersch Jr.

JONESBORO — Edward Gersch Jr., 67, of Jonesboro died Monday in his home.

He was a proud member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Arkansas State University Museum Garden Club, Jonesboro Civitan Club, Elks Lodge No. 498 and Craighead County Master Gardeners. He also served in the Army Reserves.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Mary Ann Gersch.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gersch of the home; two sons, Christopher Gersch and wife Jessica Grabowski of Trenton, N.J., and Timothy Gersch and wife Sarah Levine of Astoria, N.Y.; and a brother, Robert Gersch of Clairton, Pa.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that consideration be given to the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 2101 Pleasant Grove Road, Jonesboro 72401.

Arlene King

BIGGERS — Arlene King, 85, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011, at Randolph Home.

She was born May 26, 1925, at Fender to the late Vince and Josephine Johnson. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Gene and John; three sisters, Ossie, Lola and her twin sister, Geraldine; and two infant siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald D. “G.D.” King of the home; four sons, Vince and wife Marybeth King of Odem, Texas; Scott and wife Christy King of Doniphan, Mo., Sam and wife Kathie Becerra, and Kevin and wife Ellen Cable, all of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandsons; and brother, Russell Johnson of Biggers.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Biggers Church of Christ with Sam Becerra officiating. Burial will follow in Hite Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Monday at the church. McNabb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children’s Homes Inc. of Paragould.

Bobby Eugene Kirk

JONESBORO — Bobby Eugene Kirk, 42, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at his residence.

He was born March 19, 1968, in Jonesboro to the late Robert and Barbara Kirk and lived here a lifetime. He was a former employee of ADT and Colson Co. He liked to play golf and enjoyed watching basketball and football.

Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Brenda and Jimmy Presley, and Tammy and Eugene Sherman, all of Jonesboro; and three nephews, Jason Presley, Eric Sherman and Kyle Sherman.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Frank Hardwick officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland with the family serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Linda Ruth Knipprath

POCAHONTAS — Linda Ruth Knipprath, 59, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 26, 1951, at West Plains, Mo., to the late Alfred and Sybil Morgan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Knipprath Sr., and son, William Knipp-rath Jr.

She is survived by three brothers, Sidney Morgan and Dennis Morgan, both of Republic, Mo., and Randy Morgan of Oklahoma City; sister, Mary Henley of Ravenden; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with the family officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight.

Cheryl Penix

LEACHVILLE — Cheryl Renee Penix, 31, of Leachville, formerly of Manila, died Friday at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Howard Funeral Service of Leachville.

Mary Ann Reynolds

SANDTOWN — Mary Ann Reynolds, 83, of Sandtown died Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

She was born June 26, 1927, at Trenton, Conn., and preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Buckler; son, John Reynolds Jr.; three brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, John R. Reynolds of the home; daughters, Jackie Sullivan of Antioch, Calif., and Debra Reynolds of Forrest City; and grandson, John Sullivan of Cave City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Qualls Cave City Funeral Home with burial in Lee’s Chapel Cemetery at Sandtown.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Virginia H. Richardson

TRUMANN — Mrs. Virginia Helen Richardson, 83, of Trumann died Thursday afternoon at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Richardson was born at Tulot and was a lifetime resident of the Trumann area. She was a housewife and member of the First General Baptist Church near Trumann.

Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Audra Allen; one brother, O.J. James; and was the daughter of the late Orin J. and Doris Grace James.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Eugene Richardson of the home; two sons, Richie Richardson and wife Mary Jane of Trumann, and Ronnie Richardson and wife Rhonda of Cabot; one sister, Grace Cutberth of Memphis; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrel Miller officiating. Burial will be private in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Richardson, Nick Richardson, Peyton Richardson, Boyd Richardson, Madison Daniel and Chris Cason.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that those wishing to leave lasting memorials consider the First General Baptist Church of Trumann.

Tex B. Turner

BYHALIA, Miss. — Tex B. Turner, 68, of Byhalia, formerly of Blytheville, died Thursday, March 10, 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Acree Turner; stepchildren, Joyce Gillock, Ken Purdom, James Purdom and Patty Capers-Fitzherbert; brother, Bobby Turner; sister, Jean Phillips; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Monday until service time at the funeral home.
