Huston A. Alford

Huston Andrew Alford, 66, of McRae died Sept. 13, 2002.

He was a retired Arkansas Highway Department employee, a Baptist and a veteran of the Army.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Alford of McRae; a daughter, D’Andrea Jo Alford of McRae; a stepson, DaWayne Tipton of McRae; brothers, Junior O. Alford, Harold Alford and Marvin Alford, all of McRae; sisters, Barbara Reed of Austin, Linda Failoni of Green River, Wyo., and Betty Bundy of Cabot; and a grandson.

Funeral was Sept. 16 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Lebanon Cemetery, McRae.

Jacob G. Wright

Jacob Gene Wright of Plumerville, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002.

He was the infant son of Tracy Smith of Jacksonville and Dixie Wright of Plumerville; grandmother A. V. Wright of Plumerville, and uncle, John Degood of CA.

Graveside serve will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Springfield Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway.

Joe F. Ringgold

Joe F. Ringgold, age 86, of Bryant died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002. He was a member of Hurricane Lake Baptist Church in Bryant.

He is survived by his wife, Coga; daughter, Roselita Ray; two step-daughters, Ann Detherow of Benton and Lois Olsen of Sherwood; one step-son, Louis Kelley of San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Lillie Mae Khun of Mancata, Minn., and one granddaughter.

Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in the chapel of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, with Bro. Jim Freeman officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cabot.

Elsie Mae Bailey

Elsie Mae Bailey, age 84, of Lonoke passed away Aug. 29, 2002.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Utley Bailey.

She is survived by two daughters, Rita Bailey and Betty Cox; three granddaughters, Ramona (Tony) Cole, Rita (Johnny) Crosby, and Rebecca (Wes) Miller; seven great-grandchildren, all of Lonoke; three brothers, Darrell Brown of Jacksonville, Gene Brown of Little Rock and Donald Brown of North Carolina; and three sisters, Athlene McGarr of Cabot, Blanche Sarras of Kansas and Katherine McEnroe of California.

Funeral services were Saturday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Palm Street Church of Christ in Lonoke.

Steve Burt

Steve Burt, 48, of Mabelvale, died Aug. 27, 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Polk of Benton; two sons, Rhett Burt of Heber Springs and Daniel Burt of Cabot; two brothers, David Price of Sherwood and Buddy Hinshaw of Mabelvale; and one sister, Shara Sievers of Bauxite.

Graveside services were Friday at Arkansas Memorial Gardens. North Little Rock Funeral Home was in charge.

Anna Marie Nahlen

Anna Marie Nagel “Ann” Nahlen, age 80, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002.

She was an Avon representative for 14 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church for 50 years.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Nahlen; one daughter, Pamela Berkemeyer, of Austin; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; five sisters, Elizabeth “Lib” Lanni of Center Ridge, Josephine Gottsponer of Vinita, Okla., Margaret “Peggy” Rath of O’Fallon, Mo., Rosemary Ruff of Morrilton, and Isabelle Milam of Greenbrier.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, Aug. 30, at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Msgr. Allen Trust and Development Fund, 1003 N. Tyler St., Little Rock, 72205 and/or the Multiple Sclerosis Society (Arkansas Chapter), 1100 N. University, Little Rock, 72207.

Vallerie Gregory

Vallerie (Wright) Gregory of Cabot, died Aug. 26, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Scott; son, Travis of Cabot; two stepsons, Brian and Kelley Gregory of Crossett; three brothers, Jerry, Randy and Darrell Wright; sister, Gayla Miles and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were Aug. 31, at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home was in charge.

Max Elton Moore

Max Elton Moore, age 73, of Clarksville, Texas, died Aug. 26, 2002.

He is survived by a son, Charles H. “Chuck” Moore of North Little Rock; a daughter, Brenda Moore of North Little Rock; four grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Sligh of El Dorado, and Shirley Ann Grider of Cabot.

He was a Baptist, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a retired electrician.

Funeral services were held at Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home, Clarksville, Texas, Thursday, Aug. 29.

Glen Leon Ingle

Glen Leon Ingle, 73, died Aug. 31, 2002.

Survivors include six brothers, Alvin and Leroy of Lonoke, Troy, Bud, Wayne and Billy Joe, all of Carlisle; five sisters, Tressie Leker, Evelyn Ward, Rachel Hester and Margie Walker, all of Carlisle, and Sue Bates of Alexander.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke with interment at Center Point Cemetery.

Ralph Wilson

Ralph Wilson, 84, of Magnolia, Ark., died Sept. 1, 2002, at his home.

He was a retired Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He taught math from 1946-47 in Carlisle, Ark.; 1947-60 he was the principal for Lonoke Public Schools; 1960-78. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Lions Club, Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity, Retired Teachers, Arkansas Education Association, and appeared in the 1971 Personalities of the South.
Survivors are his wife, Vahnita Delaney Wilson of Magnolia; daughters, Lynda Aggus of Fayetteville, and Kay Bevis of Scott; sons, Bill Wilson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Wayne Wilson of Magnolia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Wilson of Prescott; sisters, Nell Grifford of Prescott, and Betty Burroughs of Hot Springs.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Lewis Chapel. Graveside services were at the Sweet Home Cemetery in Prescott, under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., of Magnolia.

Memorials may be made to the Ralph and Vahnita Wilson Educational Scholarship Fund at Southern Arkansas University.

Lela Gooden

Lela Gooden, 91, of Searcy, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in a local nursing home.

She was born June 30, 1911, at Choctaw, Ark., to William T. and Nannie C. Hunter. She grew to adulthood in Morrilton, where she received a B.A. degree from Harding College. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Formosa, Clinton and Carlisle. After her retirement from teaching she served as librarian for the Carlisle Public Library branch and as a reading tutor with Literacy Councils in Lonoke and White counties. She was a member of the West Side Church of Christ in Searcy and the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association.

Mrs. Gooden is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Benny L. Gooden and Martha of Fort Smith, Ark., and Tom Ed Gooden and Denise of Terrell, Texas; four grandchildren, Maj. C. Michael Gooden, M.D., of Fayetteville, N.C., Marcus L. Gooden of Loma Linda, Calif., LeighAnn Atkins of Edmond, Okla., and Lance C. Gooden of Terrell, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Katy Gooden and Martina Gooden of Fayetteville, N.C. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Neta Hunter and Naomi Hunter; five nieces and nephews; many friends; and thousands of former students.

Her husband of 53 years, Lowell B. Gooden, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were Wednesday at West Side Church of Christ, 709 West Arch Avenue in Searcy, under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial was in White County Memorial Gardens in Searcy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund of West Side Church of Christ, 709 West Arch Avenue, Searcy, Ark., 72143; or to the Searcy Children’s Home, 900 North Main, Searcy, Ark., 72143.
