BeNJAMIN CLYDE MYERS
Mr. Benjamin Clyde Myers, 80, of Manila, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born in Shawnee, Okla., the son of Clyde and Callie Myers, he was raised by his stepmother, Mrs. Jewel Myers, whom, according to his family, he loved very much. He was a retired millwright with the James River Paper Co. in Kalamazoo, Mich., where he lived until moving to Manila in 1991. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manila.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Greta Myers, in February of this year, and his parents.
Mr. Myers leaves his daughter, Sherry Wiersma of Kalamazoo;
His granddaughter, Mrs. Julie Ferreira of Baltimore; and
Three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila, with the Rev. Michael Winberry officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
THEODORE R. PAYNE
Mr. Theodore R. Payne, 82, of Steele, Mo., died Monday, April 9, 2001, at River Oaks Nursing Center in Steele. Born Jan. 31, 1919, in Blytheville, the son of George and Lula Norman Payne, he was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Payne was a farmer and member of the First Baptist Church in Steele.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and one son, Billy Gene Payne.
Mr. Payne leaves his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Burress Payne of the home;
One son, Jerry W. Payne, and his wife, Karen, of Northville, Mich.; and
Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville. The Rev. James Mousie will officiate, and burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
CORA BELLE COOK SMITH
Mrs. Cora Belle Cook Smith, 83, of Jonesboro, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at St. Bernard's Village in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker. Born Aug. 30, 1917, in Pine Bluff, she was one of seven children in the family of Frank Joseph and Cora Dickie Cook. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School and attended Monticello A&M College.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Smith Jr. They were married in 1944 and moved to Jonesboro in 1945 where Mr. Smith was affiliated with the Jonesboro Sun for 26 years. He then entered banking and was assistant to the president of Citizens Bank before moving to Little Rock with Union National Bank in 1970. After Mr. Smith's death in 1982, Mrs. Smith returned to Jonesboro.
While in Jonesboro, Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Business Women's Sunday School Class. She was nursery coordinator for many years and served on various church committees. Mrs. Smith was a life member of the Jonesboro Junior Auxiliary; a charter member of the United Way, being the first female member of that board; city and county chairman of Mother's March on polio, serving as chairman of the 1954 field trials when the Salk vaccine inoculations were first given to all area school children; a charter and life member of the President's Council of Arkansas State University; a member of the Jonesboro Country Club ladies' golf association; and a member of Chapter AJ PEO Sisterhood.
While in Little Rock, she was a member of CARTI, the Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Pleasant Valley Country Club ladies' golf association. Moving to Leachville in 1989, Mrs. Smith became an associate member of the Leachville First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Melody Theater renovation committee.
Mrs. Smith leaves one daughter, Lynda Edwards, and her husband, John, of Leachville;
Two grandchildren, Todd Smith Edwards and his wife, Marti McClung Edwards, of Leachville and Brandi Edwards Hurst and her husband, Bob, of Valley View;
Two great-grandchildren, Dax Hunter Hurst and Haddyn Nicole Hurst;
One sister, Mildred Scott of Pine Bluff; and
One brother, Joe Cook of Waco, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Charlie Cook, Leo Cook, Leonard Cook and John Ed Cook, all of Pine Bluff.
A graveside service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Emil Williams officiating. Following the service a celebration of the life of Mrs. Smith will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Village on Wilkins Street in Jonesboro.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Langford's Funeral Service in Jonesboro.
Memorials may be sent to the Eugene B. Smith Jr. Scholarship Fund at Arkansas State University, the Salvation Army or St. Bernard's Village.
JW EDWARD 'BUD' WORTHAM
Mr. JW Edward "Bud"Wortham, 83, of Manila, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born July 7, 1917, in Manila the son of William and Jennie Wortham.
Mr. Wortham was a lifelong Manila resident and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and city of Manila firefighter. According to his family, Mr. Wortham was an avid golfer and a huge baseball fan.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Irene Wortham of the home;
One son, JW Edward Wortham Jr. of Tulsa, Okla.;
One daughter, Susan Wortham Lewis of Jonesboro;
One brother, George Wortham of Batesville;
One sister, Maureen Powell of Manila;
Four grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson of Jonesboro, Steven Lewis of Little Rock, Brian Wortham of Nashville, Tenn., and Tiffany Wortham of Tulsa; and
Two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Shelby Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila. The Rev. James Fowler and Bro. Ray Dill will officiate, and burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
DANNY BOURLAND
Mr. Danny Bourland, 62, of Blytheville, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tenn. Born in the Lost Cane Community to Merritt and Estelle Stutts Bourland, he was a lifelong area resident and member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He had farming and agricultural interests and was a former manager of Cotton Growers Gin. He was a financial consultant with A.G. Edwards and Sons in Blytheville prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Bourland leaves his wife, Mrs. Dorris Wheeler Bourland, of the home;
Two daughters, Layne Bourland, and Kelly Boothe and her husband Tom, all of Maumelle;
Three brothers, James Bourland of Jonesboro, Larry Bourland of York, Pa., and Freddie Bourland of Keiser; and
One grandson, Carson Boothe.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Blytheville with the Rev. Bill Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville.
FRANCES L. CHISM
Mrs. Frances L. Chism, 83, of Blytheville, the widow of John Chism, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Blytheville. Born Sept. 13, 1918, she was a lifelong Blytheville resident and of the Pentecostal faith. She was the former owner of the Greyhound Bus Station Cafe in Blytheville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Odie B. Vincent; one daughter, Geneva Vincent; one son, Thomas Vincent; and one sister, Inez Griffin.
Mrs. Chism leaves two daughters, Shirley Milburn of Blytheville and Janet McFarland of Paragould;
One stepson, Danny Chism of Blytheville; and
Eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville, with the Rev. Steve Spears officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
BILLY CALVIN COBB
Mr. Billy Calvin Cobb, 74, of Cabool, Mo., died Monday, June 3, 2002, at his home. Born in Blytheville, the son of Charles Ellett Cobb and Stella Lorene Morgan Cobb, he and his wife, Pat, had resided in Cabool for the past 28 years.
He was a retired business owner and had turned a much-loved hobby of flying into a business by buying and selling airplanes. Before moving to Cabool, he was sales manager for HiAir, an aircraft sales subsidiary company of Holiday Inns. After retiring from flying, his hobby became traveling in his recreational vehicle. He and his wife have spent the last 20 years traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles Ellett Cobb Jr. and James Edward Cobb.
Mr. Cobb leaves his wife, Patricia Morris Cobb, formerly of Paragould;
Two sons, William Kendall Cobb and Richard Ellett Cobb and wife, Leasa, of Rogersville, Mo.;
Two daughters, Brenda Sue Huestis of Bakersville, Calif., and Sharon Faye Flick and husband, Phil, of Fresno, Calif.;
Two brothers, Donald Joe Cobb and wife, Nancy, of Richmond, Va., and Philip Morgan Cobb and wife, Elaine, of Yukon, Okla.;
One sister, Doris Jean Grimes and husband, Jerry, of Fort Wayne, Ind.;
Two sisters-in-law, Melba Jarrett of Blytheville and Louise Cobb of Memphis;
Two brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Royce and Kathryn Boling and Hughlen and Deloris Shatley of Paragould; and
Nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cabool Christian Church. Bro. Royce Boling and Bro. Bob Martin will officiate. Burial will conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery
in Paragould.

Mr. George Cowley Sr., 80, of Blytheville, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, in Joiner. Born in Tupelo, Miss., he had been a farmer.

His daughters, Barbara Taylor, Diane Wilson, Gloria Smith, Rena Cowley, Valerie William and Yolanda Cowley, all of Saginaw, Mich., Debra J. Dawkins of St. Louis, Angela Barker of Wilson, Pamela Cowley and Ruby Cowley, both of Blytheville, Georgia Mae Cowley of Tupelo, Emma Jean Jackson of Chicago and Paulene Merion of Plantville, Miss.;
