Ethel Mae Powell

Ethel Mae Powell, 82, of Des Arc, formerly of DeValls Bluff, died Feb. 28, 2006.
Survivors include her children, Johnny Powell, William (Snooky) Powell, Opeal Crouch, Naomi Grubbs, David Powell, Sheila Billingsly, Lisa Powell and Phillip Powell; sisters, Pauline Branon and Clara Sue Quin; brother, Junior Dobbs;15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Lung Association or the Arthritis Foundation.

Jack Marion Elmore

Jack Marion Elmore, age 64, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Jack was born on June 16, 1941 to Ray Marion and Peggy Loraine Elmore in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended North Little Rock High School. After graduating from high school, he joined the National Guard where he served as an electrical mechanic inspector. After leaving the Guard in 1979, Jack moved his family to Bee Branch, Arkansas, where he worked as a self-employed farmer. During this time, he was also active in the community’s volunteer fire department and a local chapter of the Freemasons. He was also a lifelong member of the Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock.

Jack is survived by his father, Ray Marion Elmore of San Antonio, Tex., and his son Michael Marion and daughter-in-law Tracey Elmore of Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother, Jim, and a sister, Barbara.

Graveside memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot, Arkansas with Rev. Melburn Hill officiating and music by Betty Hill. Cremation arrangements were under direction of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home (501) 982-2136.

Barbara Balding

Barbara Balding, 55, of Austin, died March 4, 2006.

She was a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and a retired truck driver.
She is survived by her husband, Mack A. Balding of Austin.

Arrangements were by the Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.

Alma Jean Ford

Alma Jean Ford, age 79, of Jacksonville, died March 5, 2006.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Vernon Ford of Jacksonville; two daughters, Benita Crook of Jacksonville and Belinda McNew of Cabot; two sisters: Jan Moore of Fayetteville and Betty Bolling of Oklahoma; brother, Jackie Fitzgerald of Alma; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service of Cabot.

Inez M. Ausley

Inez Midgette Ausley, 84 of Jacksonville died Thursday, March 2, 2006. On October 25, 1940 she married Aubrey Ausley. Mrs. Ausley was employed 10 years with Maybelline Cosmetics until she retired in 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Jacksonville Senior Center.

She is survived by a daughter Rosemarie Sample of Jacksonville; sister, Alice McChesney of Cary, N.C.; two grandsons, Gary of Cabot, Scottie of Prairie Grove; six grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, March 6, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Reverend Carol Goddard and Reverend Leon Gray officiating. The family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville or Concord Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Jerry Marshall

Jerry Jean Wells Marshall, 75, of Ward, died Saturday, March 4, 2006. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ. She was a rural mail carrier and during World War II, she worked at the Arsenal in Jacksonville. She served the city of Ward as an alderman on the city council for many years.

Mrs. Marshall is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Harold Marshall of Ward and five children; Paula Henderson, Steve, of England, Vicky Hendrix of Cabot, Robbie Marshall of Sixteenth Section, Alesia Roberts of Ward and Renee Shepard of Harrison; one sister, Betty Ridgeway of Ward and two brothers, Carl Wells of Vilonia and Dennis Wells of Conway; eight grandchildren.

The family received friends Tuesday. The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Cabot Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Brother David Riley and Brother Joe Johnson. Burial will follow in Sixteenth Section Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice.

Coy Homer Hodges

Coy Homer Hodges, age 95, of Austin, died March 3, 2006.

Mr. Hodges is survived by one son, Loyd Hodges of Cabot; two grandchildren.

Family received friends Monday, at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home. Graveside services were 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Sumner Cemetery.

Martha J. Brown

Martha Jane Hewgley-Brown, age 48, of Ward, died Feb. 27, 2006.

Survivors include daughter, Michelle Hazel of Cabot; parents Carl & Beulah Hewgley of Conway; sisters: Carla Tinkle and Olivia Hewgley of Conway; half-sisters: Barbara Barr and Catherine Bihlmaier; and five grandchildren.
Private family services were scheduled. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, Cabot.

Angeline D. Petrus

Angeline D. Petrus, 84, of Carlisle, died Thursday, March 2, 2006.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Patrick; two sons, Richard Petrus and Robert Petrus; four brothers, Harold, Donald, Clarence and Charley Decker; two sisters, Clarice Ann Decker and Florene Kehler; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rosary was held March 3, 2006 at the Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. The funeral service was held March 4, 2006 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Carlisle with interment in the Carlisle Cemetery. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

William C. Glover

William C. “Bill” Glover, 84, of North Little Rock, died Feb. 28, 2006.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, and longtime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Sibyl Glover; sons, Larry of Sheridan and Ronnie C. Glover of Conway; sister, Sylvia Rivenburg of North Little Rock; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 2 at Faith Baptist Church.
Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Cabot.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 109 Tanglewood Drive, North Little Rock, Ark. 72118 or Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72204.

Arrangements were by the North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Jerry Justice, Jr.

Jerry Stephenson Justice Jr., 34, of Ward, died February 23, 2006.
He was a commissioned officer at Arkansas Children’s Hospital and a full time journalism student at UALR.

Survivors include his wife, Monica Maples Justice of Ward; daughters, Hayley Nicole, Kourtney Raiann, and Laura Kaitlin Justice all of Ward; mother, Patricia Harrison Justice; and sister, Terry Lynn Justice, both of Ward.

Graveside services were held March 4 in Hicks Cemetery in Lonoke.
Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

William H. Sumner

William Harold Sumner, 83, of Abilene, TX, died Feb. 26, 2006.

He graduated from Lonoke High School in 1941. He received his commission in the Army Air Corps and his “wings” in 1945. In 1946 he left the service and returned to Carlisle to rice farm. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Crisis in 1952 and stayed in to retirement from Dyess AFB. He and his wife owned a realty company in Abilene. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his sons, William H. Sumner Jr., of Abilene, and David Wesley Sumner of Lansdale, PA; grandson, Wesley Earle Sumner of Abilene; and brother, Robert Earl Sumner from Claremore, OK.

A funeral service was held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church March 1.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country (an affiliate of West Texas Rehab Center), the St. Paul’s United Methodist TV Ministry, or the American Cancer Society.
