Robert Q. Caton

Robert Q. Caton, 77, of Little Rock died Thursday, April 6, 2006. He was born in Lonoke. Caton was an active member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired ironworker with Local 321, was a member of Albert Pike Lodge #714, a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; his children, Walter Caton, Alfred Caton, Billy Caton, Glenda McGinty; two stepsons, Doyne Perry and Mike Perry; a stepdaughter, Shirlene Jones; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a brother, Tom Caton.

The funeral service was Saturday, April 8, at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Hawkins officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Arrangements by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

Mary Nell Calderon

Mary Nell Fry Calderon, 75, of St. Louis, Mo. died Wednesday, April 5, 2006. A dedicated nurse, teacher and friend, Mary was a registered nurse who served patients for 40 years. She assisted former President and then Governor of the State of Arkansas, Bill Clinton, in piloting the nation’s first Home Health Aides program, designed to assist women in state assistance programs to achieve training and employment in home health care.

Survivors include her children, Colleen Murphy, Bill Calderon, Patti Carol Fires and Diana Calderon; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Laura Fry Busby and Patti Fry Soong.

A celebration of her life was held Friday, April 7, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kirkwook, Mo.

She was cremated. A burial will be held at McIlroy Community Cemetery in McIlroy, AR at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Mary Calderon Continuing Education Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Joseph’s Hospital, Kirkwood, Mo.

Samuel Lyda

Samuel Lyda, 76, of Lonoke, died April 7, 2006.

He is survived by his children, Scott, Jess, and Bill Lyda; and three grandchildren.
Services were entrusted to Robinson Mortuary, North Little Rock.

James B. Anderson

James B. Anderson, age 62, of Ward, Arkansas, was born April 23, 1943, at Hot Springs, Arkansas to Arthur W. and Gladys B. Sirratt Anderson, and he died Friday, April 7, 2006. He retired from the Lonoke County Road Department.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; four daughters, Suewaya Cotton and Shawnee Marcelle and husband Chip, all of Wichita, Kansas, Carol Halsey and husband Jackie of North Little Rock, Susan Patterson and husband Tim of Cabot; one brother, Douglas Anderson of Malvern; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Ernestine Dodson and Myrtle Farlow both of Malvern; four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shawna LeAnn Anderson, his parents and three brothers.

Family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Graveside service was 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Lebanon Cemetery, McRae.

Barbara Gillman

Barbara Beth Ayres Gillman, age 89, of Jacksonville formerly of Little Rock, died Monday, April 17, 2006. She was born in Paola, KS on May 31, 1916 to the late Robert and Beth Marly Ayres. Barbara was a member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church until 2003 when she moved to Jacksonville and joined the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.

She entered college when she was 59 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from UALR in 1979 at the age of 63. She was appointed Ombudsman for the State Nursing Home Regulatory Board and was a member of the State Silver Haired Legislature. She was also a member of the Sweet Adelines and attended Former President Bill Clinton’s first Inaugural Ball.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Karl W. Gillman and her son, Daryl Karl Gillman. She is survived by her daughter, Dixie Buchanan and husband James “Buck” of Cabot, her son, David Gillman and wife Lisa of Tulsa, OK, grandchildren, Barbara Beth Buchanan of Mustang, OK, William Karl Buchanan and wife Cassandra of Spring, TX, Bree Holbrook and husband Jordan of Memphis, TN, Chase Gillman of York, PA, and Kailey Gillman of Tulsa, OK, great-grandchildren, Kristen and Jacob Buchanan.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening between 6-8 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville with Rev. David Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.

LaDonna A. Mitchell

LaDonna Ann Mitchell, 43, of North Little Rock died Saturday, April 15, 2006. LaDonna worked in management in the telecommunications industry and was a member of Baugh Chapel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Donna Cox Tucker Stewart of North Little Rock and her second “mother” Barbara Smith of North Little Rock. She leaves a daughter, Danielle Mitchell; two sons, Adrian Mitchell and Ricky Mitchell, Jr. all of Texas and four grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Tucker of Paragould and Greg Tucker of Ward.

A graveside service was Tuesday, April 18 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bono, with Dr. A. B. Hicks officiating. Arrangements were by Cabot Funeral Home.

Esther E. Matthews

Esther Eunice Cochran Matthews, age 65, passed away April 14, 2006. She was born September 26, 1940 to Bob and Helen Cochran. She was a member of Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Hamilton and Carlisle Schools and was a proud member of the Carlisle class of 1958.

Esther is survived by one daughter Pamela Lott and her husband Ronnie of Gravel Ridge; two grandsons David Lott of Jacksonville and Samuel Lott of Gravel Ridge; her father Bob Cochran; one sister Roberta Daniels and companion Tommy Taylor of Sherwood; one brother Butch Cochran and his wife Teresa of North Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Jim Matthews (1997) and her mother Helen Cochran (2006).

Funeral Services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Hamilton Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Memorials may be made to Hamilton Cemetery fund or Carlisle Alumni Association.

The family would like to thank Hazen, Lonoke, Robinson, Chambers and Sherwood Nursing Centers and Arkansas Hospice for their care and support during her time of illness.

Charles W. Davis

Charles Wayne Davis, age 64, of Cabot, passed away on April 16, 2006.

Survivors include his special friend Michael Faught and family; the nurses and residents of Spring Creek Living Center and his church family at Victory Baptist Church in Cabot.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday, April 20, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church in Cabot with Bro. Ben Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Sylvania Cemetery. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, 713 South Second St., Cabot (501)941-7888.

M.J. Adams

M.J. “Knockout” Adams, born December 31, 1940, died April 16, 2006. He was a member of Palm Street Church of Christ, Lonoke, a graduate of Jacksonville High School and was a retired self-employed Building Contractor. In earlier years he built a 10 acre sub-division in Lonoke County. He was an avid hunter with many trophies to attest to his skills. He had a log cabin in Stone County where he spent a large portion of his time during the winter and summer. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren at the cabin. He was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Louise Adams; a son, Michael J. Adams of Cabot and a baby sister.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathleen Chapman Adams; two daughters, Robin (Jimmy) Prince and Karen Adams; seven grandchildren, Bailie and Marlie Prince, Jared, Tyler and Alex Adams, all of Jacksonville, Nolan and Brandon Hidalgo of South Carolina; one brother, Don (Kaye) Adams of Greers Ferry; two sisters, Patty (Carl) Peters of Jacksonville and Barbara Hiner of Benton.

Funeral services was 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Bayou Meto Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Jacksonville Funeral Home, 1504 Wright Loop Rd, Jacksonville.

Great appreciation to the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice and St. Vincent’s Family Clinic in Jacksonville.

Memorials can be made to www.pancan.org to aid in research for a cure of Pancreatic cancer.

Darrell E. House

Darrell Eugene House, 74, of Jacksonville, died Friday, April 14, 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Judy Puckett of Jacksonville; five sons, Brian House of Jacksonville, Michael House of North Little Rock, Richard House of St. Louis, MO, and Danny House of North Little Rock, Jimmy House of Ferndale; two grandchildren; one brother, Carl House of Little Rock; two sisters, Beatrice Haigwood and Mildred Cochran both of North Little Rock.
Funeral services were held Tuesday April 18 at Stanfill Baptist Church in Jacksonville with Brother Gene Davis officiating. Interment followed in Stanfill Cemetery by Cabot Funeral Home.

Eugene Moody

Eugene Moody, 65, of Conway, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He worked 25 years for Universal Nolen and was a Baptist. His hobby was displaying his produce and building relationships at the Farmers Market.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, JoAnn Duke Moody of Conway; two sons, Tony Moody of Omaha, NB, and Michael Moody of Conway; four grandchildren; one sister, Betty Bradford of Conway; and two brothers, Dwight Moody and Danny Moody of Conway.

Funeral services were Saturday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with burial following at Sumner Cemetery in Cabot.

Loyd V. Grimes

Loyd V. Grimes, age 73, of Ward, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006. He was born on June 30, 1932, in Ward, where he has been a lifelong resident. He will always be remembered for his love of playing music, especially the harmonica and guitar. He also loved to tell stories and make those around him smile. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by one son, Wen Grimes of Maumelle; three daughters, Amelia Crane, Deloris Grimes and Vandora Grimes, all of Lonoke; three grandchildren; and one sister, Morene Ashmore of Ward.

Family received friends Thursday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was Friday, April 14, 2006, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Butlerville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Arkansas, #1 Lile Ct., Ste. 201, Little Rock, AR 72205.
