J. Barnes
LEACHVILLE -- James Lonnie "J.L." Barnes, 80, of Leachville died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at his residence.
Born in Izard County, he was a longtime Leachville resident. He was a retired employee of the Leachville Street Department, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lizzie King Barnes of the home; two sons, Billie Brasfield of Leachville and James Brasfield of Senath, Mo.; five daughters, Glenda Mahan, Shirley Ann and Donna Gibbs, all of Jonesboro, Bertha Ray of Monette and Mary Goad of Bradford; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Dillie Barnes; a son; and a daughter.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Howard Funeral Service chapel in Leachville, with the Rev. Calvin Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at Leachville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Eric Ray, Cameron Smith, Randall Kalley, Bruce Duncan, Jack Meurer and Sonny Ladd.
Honorary pallbearers will include Tony Ray, Tommy Ray, William Goad, James Brasfield, J.J. Brasfield and John Goad.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bounds
POCAHONTAS -- Dennis Bounds, 45, of Pocahontas died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at John Cochran Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Louis. He was a Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include one son, Michael Bounds; his mother, Charlene Bounds of Pocahontas; seven brothers, Grady Bounds, Randall Bounds and Berell Bounds, all of Pocahontas, Charles Bounds of Marthasville, Mo., Tommy Bounds of San Antonio, Larry Bounds of Delaplaine and Gary Bounds of Peach Orchard; and one sister, Sue Malin of Judsonia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Bounds.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cox-Waymon Funeral Home chapel in Pocahontas, with William Richmond officiating. The body will be cremated.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Davis
HENDERSON, Tenn. -- James Edward Davis, 71, of Henderson died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He had worked as a salesman for Davis Automart and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Davis of Henderson; and two sisters, Linda Tucker of Manila and Ann Humphries of Tyronza.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Ararat Cemetery at Darden, Tenn.

Gilkison
Julia Sarah Gilkison, 107, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at Rose Skill Care Nursing Center.
Born in Greenway, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sons, Eugene Gilkison of Piggott, Joe Gilkison of Fresno, Calif., and Jerry Gilkison of Memphis; three daughters, Blanche Gilkison and Esther Kitterman, both of Jonesboro, and Jean Pratt of Rector; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector, with Kevin Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Busby, John Kitterman, Greg Kitterman, Kevin Jones and Danny Turnbo.
Honorary pallbearers will include Thomas Thrash, Adam Thrash, Tommy Thrash, Randy Busby and Michael Busby.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Gipson
WESTLAND, Mich. -- Arlie Woodroe Gipson, 69, of Westland died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Beaumont Hospital in Westland.
Born in Walnut Ridge, he was a supervisor with Ford Motor Company and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include three sons, Arlie J. Gipson of Hephzibah, Ga., Ronnie Gipson of Metamora, Mich., and David Gipson of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; one brother, Charles Gipson of Marion, Ind.; two sisters, Noveline Reed of Pocahontas and Corene Sellers of Maynard; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, with Rick Hassell officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Duty Cemetery in Randolph County.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Goff
POCAHONTAS -- Martha Kathryn Goff, 78, of Pocahontas died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. She worked as a nurse's aide.
Survivors include one son, Cecil Calvin Ray Jr. of Morton, Ill.; three daughters, Daphine Salmons of Fulton, Mo., Donnia Satterfield of Northport, Fla., and Kathi Marks of Missoula, Mont.; two brothers, Dewey Thompson and Gene Thompson, both of Pocahontas; two sisters, Margie Lee Ballard of Manson and Aldean Brown Dildine of Ravenden; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Edgar and Flora Fultner Thompson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Pentecostal Church, with Bill Gray and Jerry Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the church.

Graham
WYNNE -- Matlene Graham, 57, of Wynne died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at CrossRidge Hospital in Wynne. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, David Graham of Wynne; one son, Maurice Graham of Wynne; two daughters, Mamie T. Beale and Angela Harrison, both of Wynne; six sisters, Willie B. Pearson and Rosie Greer, both of Wynne, Lillie Brownlow of Greenwood, Miss., Ruthie Veasley of Las Vegas, Mary Greer of Chicago and Bessie Reed of Inkster, Mich.; five brothers, Willie Greer of Wynne, Robert Greer of Terre Haute, Ind., Inis Greer of Ypsilanti, Mich., Henry Clay of Inkster and James Greer of Medina, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Wynne, with the Rev. Brandon Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Wynne Cemetery under the direction of Woodard Funeral Service of Wynne.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

McGill
BRYAN, Texas -- Graveside services for Dr. Albert Gallatin "Mac" McGill, 84, of Bryan, who died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 in Bryan, will be at noon today at Bryan City Cemetery, with the Rev. Nicolas Dyke officiating. Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Little Rock, he received a medical degree from the University of Arkansas and was a military flight surgeon in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He practiced general medicine and surgery in Bryan for 35 years.
He also served as mayor pro tem of Bryan and was a member of the board of Briarcrest Country Club, the vestry of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, was president of the Bryan Arts Council and was a delegate to the Texas Medical Association from the Brazos-Robertson County Medical Society.
In addition, he played the violin with the StageCenter Chamber Quartet and performed in several StageCenter dramas. Following his retirement he frequently performed with a barbershop quartet.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Johnson Gordon McGill of Bryan; a son, John Gordon McGill of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Dr. Ruth Gordon McGill of Christoval, Texas; a sister, Margaret McGill Boothe of Jonesboro; and two grandchildren, Gordon Parker McGill and Franklin Wofford McGill, both of Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Neville
HORSESHOE BEND -- George Earl Neville, 78, of Horseshoe Bend died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at his residence.
Born in Geneva, Ill., he served in the Army during World War II and was a retired truck driver for Nelson Brothers Transfer Co.
He was active with the Moose Lodge of Salem, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the Eagles Lodge of Horseshoe Bend. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Neville of the home; a son, George Leslie Neville of Batavia, Ill.; a daughter, Marie Smith of Elburn, Ill.; five stepsons, Michael Lucero of Alameda, Calif., Roger Lucero of Elmhurst, Ill., Joe Lucero of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Tom Lucero of Grove City, Ohio, and Philip Lucero of Aurora, Ill; a stepdaughter, Maureen Holmberg of Wellington, Colo.; a sister, Florence Rudolf of Horseshoe Bend; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend, with the Rev. Everett Isom and the Rev. Allan Bonsall officiating. Burial will follow at Evening Shadows Cemetery in Horseshoe Bend under the direction of Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the general fund at the United Methodist Church of Horseshoe Bend.

Oakley
MONROE, Mich. -- Bertha Anna Oakley, 83, of Monroe, formerly of Tyronza, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.
She was a retired produce manager and helped found the Apostolic Church in Tyronza.
Survivors include one son, Stephen Hopkins of Leesburg, Fla.; one daughter, Jean Steller of Jackson, Mich.; a half sister; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Oakley.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nichols Cemetery near Marked Tree, with T. R. Foster officiating. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Payne
LAPEER, Mich. -- Alfred Paul "Uncle Bud" Payne, 84, of Lapeer died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at Pontiac, Mich., Osteopathic Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.
