Donald Roy Austin
(November 8, 1961 - August 22, 2010)
Donald Roy Austin, age 48 of Hatton died Sunday, August 22, 2010 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, November 8, 1961 to Olen Henry and Willa Dean House Austin in Rockford, Illinois.
Donald had many passions in his life and his family was his world. His wife Betty Sue and son Eric meant the world to him. Donald was a Christian and served as a member of Wickes Church of the Nazarene. He was an educator and taught many different subjects and trades throughout his career. Donald taught at Ouachita High School, Sparkman High School, Magnet Cove High School, Horatio High School, and last but not least his beloved Wickes High School. He loved the Wickes Warriors and was passionately involved with the Warrior Basketball program. Donald was always found behind the scorer’s table keeping the team’s stats and running the game clock. The Warrior basketball team surprised Donald with a State Championship Ring in 2004. In 2008, Donald founded and led the Warrior soccer team until the fall of 2009. He considered his State Championship ring and the East Lab Golden “E” Award to be his greatest accomplishments in his education career. Donald was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with family and friends on his Facebook page.
He is preceded in death by his father Olen Henry Austin.
Survivors include his wife Betty Sue Austin of the home; one son and daughter in law, Eric and Angela of Hatton; his mother Willa Dean Austin of Purcell, Oklahoma; two brothers Daryl Austin and wife Leonia of Hatfield and David Austin and wife Vicki of Magnet Cove; one sister Mary Rex and husband Andy of Purcell, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 4:00 p. m. at the Holbert Auditorium at Wickes High School with Pastor Tom Hunter and Brother Leon McClesky officiating. Interment will follow in the Daniel Cemetery in Wickes. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Edger Rios, Neal Jenkins, Julio Torres, Justin Jenkins, Damon Williams, Larry Pennington, Gerald Pharr, Monty Faine, and Scott Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Donald Austin Memorial Fund in C/O Union Bank of Mena, P. O. Box 898, Mena, Arkansas 71953.

Sally Rose
(August 29, 1916 - August 21, 2010)
Sally Rose, age 93 of Fort Smith, Arkansas formerly of Mena passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 in Fort Smith.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, August 24, 2010, 2:00 p. m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Amanda Lee Bowen
(January 10, 1921 - August 19, 2010)
Amanda Lee Bowen age 89 of Centennial, Colorado, formally of Mena died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her home.
She was born on Monday, January 10, 1921 to Earl and Esther Davidson Johnson in Marksville, Kansas.
She is survived by her daughter Nickolet Bowen; one daughter in law Anna Bowen; two brothers Jack and Gene Johnson; one sister Florence Ferguson; two grandsons Mark Bowen and Brady Bowen; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services are Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 10:00 A. M. at the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
Quentin Hollis Starnes, age 23, of Vandervoort, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010. He was born November 12, 1986 in Galesburg, Illinois to Robert Starnes and Dorene Lewellen Starnes. He was a graduate of the University of Ozark with a major in biology and a minor in Chemistry. Recently, he was a cook at Spinelli’s Restaurant in Mena. Quentin was a loving son, grandson, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by:
Parents: Robert and Dorene Starnes of Vandervoort, Arkansas
Brothers: Travis Starnes and his wife Shannon of Oceanside, California Matthew Starnes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Grandmother: Pearl Starnes of Galesburg, Illinois
Grandfather: Dale Lewellen of Maryville, Missouri
Nephew: Kayleb Starnes of Oceanside, California
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Lake Starnes and his grandmother Mary Ellen Lewellen.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 23, 2010 at 10:00 a. m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Will Squires officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening, August 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy Marie Barham
(December 9, 1924 - August 14, 2010)
Dorothy Marie Barham, age 85, of Mena, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Mena.
She was born on December 9, 1924 in Eagleton, Arkansas to the late Lonnie James Dugan and the late Medie Hastings Dugan. She met her late husband Alvie Glenn Barham while working in the ammunitions plant during World War ll. She also worked at Renova Factory for several years. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and a good friend to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by:
Sons: Donald Barham of Glenwood, Arkansas Larry Barham of Glenwood, Arkansas Jerry Barham of Waldron, Arkansas
Daughter: Mary Teague of Bismark, Arkansas
Brother: L. J. Dugan of Mena, Arkansas
Sisters: Hazel Sumpter of Eufala, Oklahoma Charlene Rupp of Mountainburg, Arkansas Barbara Jacobs of Red Bluff, California
9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Medie Dugan, and husband Alvie Glenn Barham, brother, Orville Dean Dugan, sister, Codine Gray, daughter-in-law, Pamela Barham, and infant grandson. Funeral services for Mrs. Barham will be Monday, August 16, 2010 at 10:00 a. m. at the First Assembly of God in Mena with Brother Ron Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Barham, Kelley Barham, Vic Carver, Kyle Carver, Eric Reynolds, Jamie Anderson and Jeff Lemley.

Hazel Belle Golden
(December 22, 1924 - August 13, 2010)
Hazel Belle Golden, age 85, of Wickes, Arkansas passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 in Texarkana, Texas.
She was born December 22, 1924 in Wickes, Arkansas to the late Frank Dean and the late Della Sullivan Dean. She was united in marriage to Albert Golden. Mrs. Golden was a Café manager for J. J. Newberry Stores. She was of the Baptist faith and a loving wife, mother, sister, mother-in-law and friend.
Survivors are:
Son: Darrell Cartwright of Spokane, Washington
Daughter-in-law: Dr. Nancy Cartwright of Amarillo, Texas
Nephew: Michael Lewey of Wickes, Arkansas
Many step grandchildren of the Albert Golden family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Della Dean, her husband Albert Golden, 1 brother and 5 sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 11:00 a. m. at the Wickes Baptist Church in Wickes with Brother Scott Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Baker Cemetery in Wickes under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Visitation is general.
Pallbearers will be Terry Paul Holman and Jerry Watkins, and her grandsons, Ben Cartwright, Kevin Bailey, Tony Ralls, and Stacy Dowdy.

Joseph "Eddie" Edward Nault
(November 19, 1943 - August 11, 2010)
Joseph Edward “Eddie” Nault age 66 of Mena died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at his home. He was born on Friday November 19, 1943 to Majoric Charles and Frances Rose Bigge Nault in Fort Myers, Florida.
Eddie always said, “Give God credit for the good things that you do. ” That is what Eddie always tried to do each and every day. Eddie was an active member of the First Freewill Baptist Church on Cherry and Petros in Mena. After God was his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Eddie served his country during the Vietnam War in the National Guard. After he was honorable discharge he moved to Mena and started working at Brodix and worked there 10 years and then went to Street & Performance for another 10 years where he worked as a graphic designer. During his time working there, there was an article wrote in Popular Hot Rod magazine spotlight the work Eddie was doing at Street & Performance. This was one of Eddie greatest accomplishments in his life. Some of Eddie’s hobbies included computers, building and racing cars and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Martha Nault of the home; two sons, Kevin Nault and his wife Charlotte of Mena and Bryan Parrish and wife Amanda of Lockesburg; one daughter Fran Nault of Mena; four sisters Mary Lemieux of Fort Myers, Florida, Elizabeth Beaton of Fort Myers, Florida, Christine Counts of Fort Myers, Florida and Elaine Edwards of Mena; two grandchildren Ashley Parrish and Brandon Crow both of Lockesburg; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 10:00 A. M. at the First Freewill Baptist Church on the corner Cherry and Petros in Mena with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Cremation is entrusted to Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
Memorials can be made to the First Freewill Baptist Church, C/O Doris Sirmon, 1506 Port Arthur, Mena, Arkansas 71953.

Harlan K. Herman
(March 12, 1922 - August 9, 2010)
Mr. Harlan K. Herman, age 88, of Mena, passed away Monday, August 9, 2010 in Mena. He was born March 12, 1922 in Lincoln, Kansas to the late Harley Edward Herman and the late Stella G. Krechlow Herman. He was united in marriage to the late Marion Jean Harden on August 16, 1943 in Papallion, Nebraska. He was a retired veteran, serving his country in the United States Army and in the United States Air Force. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by:
Daughter: Sharon Kay Johnson and husband Jerry of Mena, Arkansas
Grandson: Jeff Johnson and wife Dena of Mena, Arkansas
Granddaughters: Kim Bryan and husband Roger of Mena, Arkansas Jodie Hunt and husband Donny of Mena, Arkansas
10 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Stella Herman and by his wife Marion Herman.
Graveside service will be held Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10:00 a. m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park with Brother Chad Hill officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, August 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
